Norman 'Norm' Krueger
Norman "Norm" Krueger, 68, formerly of Grand Forks, died Nov. 23, 1998, in St. Mark's Hospital, Salt Lake City.
Norman Krueger was born Dec. 17, 1929, the son of Walter Cornelius and Dora Erna (Plantiko) Krueger, in Grand Forks. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1951. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. He married Lorraine Northagen on June 8, 1952, in Whitman, N.D. They farmed in Petersburg, N.D. He was a truck driver for P.I.E. Trucking and Pyramid Oil Co.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Dale; daughters, Patricia (James) Brett and Julie (Kimo) Jones; seven grandchildren; a brother, Ardell; and sisters, Ardyce Leen, Marcy Halstenson and Susan Steinke.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson.
Services: Were held in Murray, Utah.
Burial: Larkin Sunset Gardens, Sandy, Utah.
George Bachmeier Jr.
LISBON, N.D. -- George Bachmeier Jr., 68, Lisbon, formerly of New Rockford, N.D., died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, in North Dakota Veterans Home, Lisbon, where he had lived since 1994.
George Bachmeier Jr. was born March 25, 1930, the son of George and Mary (Warmsbecker) Bachmeier, in Towner, N.D. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He worked for New Rockford area farmers, Ben Hager Construction, Carrington, N.D., Weber Sand & Gravel and Sheyenne Sand & Gravel, both in New Rockford.
He is survived by sisters, Phyllis (Mike) Duchscherer and Helen Christianson, both of New Rockford, Rose Kraft, Devils Lake, Elenora (Clifford) Knoll, Selz, N.D., Francis (Richard) Hammer, Jamestown, and Mary (Milton) Nokleby, Parkersburg, W.Va.; and brothers, John and Frank, both of New Rockford, Richard (Mary Ann), Sheyenne, N.D., and James (Carol), Rockford, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers-in-law.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, St. John's Catholic Church, New Rockford.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.
Burial: St. John's Cemetery.
Andrew J. Novak
PARK RIVER, N.D. -- Andrew J. Novak, 96, Park River, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, in St. Ansgar's Health Center, Park River.
Andrew J. Novak was born Feb. 26, 1902, the son of Joseph and Katherina (Ptacnik) Novak, in Pisek, N.D., where he attended school. He married Agnes Grovum on Jan. 15, 1930, in Pisek. They farmed until 1967, when they retired and moved to Park River. Agnes Novak died Oct. 28, 1982. He moved into the Good Samaritan Center on July 25, 1994.
He is survived by daughters, Janice (Larry) Klindtworth, Camano Island, Wash., and Ellen (George) Hurtt, Hoople; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Norman; a daughter, Arlene; six brothers; and eight sisters.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Monday, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Park River.
Visitation: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, with a 5 p.m. prayer service, Tollefson Funeral Home, Park River, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Park River.
Norma A. Gilmore
Norma A. Gilmore, 76, Grand Forks, formerly of Jamestown, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 1998, in Valley Memorial Nursing Home, Grand Forks.
Norma Alice Olson was born Nov. 18, 1921, the daughter of Ole and Ragna Olson, in Landa, N.D. She worked as a supervisor at FMC during World War II in Minneapolis. She married James Gilmore on June 13, 1945, in Minot. They lived in Bottineau, Valley City, Kathryn, Montpelier and Jamestown, N.D. She worked for Anne Carlsen School in Jamestown until her retirement. James Gilmore died Dec. 21, 1985.
She is survived by a sons, Roger; daughters, Barbara Gilmore, Kathleen (Jerry) Brokke and Laurel (Dave) Barrett; and nine grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown.
Burial: Oak Creek Cemetery, Bottineau (Eddy, Jamestown).
Lucille V. Paulson
Lucille V. Paulson, 99, Bismarck, formerly of Grand Forks, died Aug. 27, 1998, in Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck.
Lucille Paulson was born March 22, 1899, the daughter of John and Helen (Boxrud) Paulson, in St. James, Minn. She moved with her family to New Rockford, N.D., in March 1904. She graduated from high school in New Rockford in 1917, and from St. John's Hospital School of Nursing in Red Wing, Minn., in 1922. She later attended University of Minnesota and received her bachelor of science degree in nursing education in 1950, and her master's degree in education in 1959. She worked as a general duty and private nurse in Rochester, Minn., and for the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. She was a nursing instructor for the Lutheran Hospital in Sioux Falls, Iowa, at the Deaconess Hospital in Grand Forks for 28 years, with the last eight years as director of the school of nursing. She was the executive director of the North Dakota Board of Nursing in Bismarck from 1959 to 1970.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister; and four brothers.
Services: Were held in Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center.
Burial: New Rockford Cemetery.
Martha Efraimson
ROLLA, N.D. -- Martha Efraimson, 83, Rolla, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998, in Presentation Care Center, Rolette, N.D.
Martha Juntunen was born Sept. 24, 1914, the daughter of John and Hilda (Koponen) Juntunen, in Perth, N.D. She graduated from high school in Rolla in 1932. She attended the New York Hair Styling Academy in Fargo. She lived and worked in Rolla. She married Eino Efraimson on Jan. 8, 1943, in East Grand Forks. They farmed until their retirement near Rock Lake, N.D. Eino Efraimson died in 1988. She moved to Dickinson. She was a resident of the Presentation Care Center since January 1992.
She is survived by a daughter, Jane (Paul) Glander, Grand Forks; a grandson; two stepgrandchildren; and sisters, Hilda Matson, Rolla, and Alma Sanderson, Mesa, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Wallace, Walfrid, Edwin, Niilo and Hjalmer; and sisters, Selma, Elma Kakela, Hilma Berendsen and Hazel Boltz.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday, All Nations Lutheran Church, Rock Lake.
Visitation: 6 to 9 p.m. today, Niewoehner Funeral Home, Rolla.

Luella 'Lou' Thompson
BEMIDJI -- Luella "Lou" Thompson, 90, Bemidji, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998, in North Country Regional Hospital, Bemidji.
Luella Irene Kindler was born Feb. 21, 1908, the daughter of Emil and Anna (Dagen) Kindler, in Stephen, Minn., where she graduated from high school. She graduated from St. Luke's Nursing School in Fergus Falls, Minn., as a registered nurse. She married Don Thompson on Aug. 18, 1936, in Crookston. They lived in Baudette, Minn. She worked as a registered nurse for the Baudette Hospital. She became administrator of Pioneer Home in Baudette. After her retirement, she continued to live in Baudette. In 1981, she moved to Bemidji. Don Thompson preceded her in death.
She is survived by sons, David (Bonnie), Apple Valley, Minn., and Dick (Jeanne), Anchorage, Alaska; a daughter, Jane (Ken) Morgan, Bemidji; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph and Harold.
Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, First Congregational Church, Baudette.
Visitation: 4 p.m. Wednesday, with a 4: 30 p.m. prayer service, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.

Arthur Stenseth
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Arthur Stenseth, 90, Thief River Falls, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998, in Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls.
Arthur Stenseth was born Nov. 28, 1907, the son of Lewis and Tina Stenseth in Smiley Township, Pennington County, Minn., where she attended rural school and worked on the family farm. He worked on farms in Montana. He served in the U.S. Army from June 1, 1942 to Oct. 18, 1945. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He returned to Thief River Falls and farmed in Pennington County. He married Julia Sanders on July 17, 1953, in Red Lake Falls, Minn. They lived in Thief River Falls.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Hazel (Kenneth) Cartier, East Grand Forks, and Darlene Newland, Thief River Falls; 28 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Signe Green, Chicago, Ruth (Norman) Leader, Thief River Falls, and Anne (Gordon) Hoel, St. Paul; and brothers, Lynn (Laura), of Florida, and Maurice (Helen), Thief River Falls.
He was preceded in death by his children, Clarence Fuller and June Brandt; three grandchildren; sisters, Lily Haynes, John Stenseth and Edith Henman; and brothers, Ted, Lewis and Melvin.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Redeemer Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls.

Harold Larson
Harold Larson, 90, 2353 27th Ave. S., formerly of Larimore, N.D., died Sunday, June 7, 1998, in Valley Eldercare, Grand Forks.
Harold Larson was born March 5, 1908, the son of Charley and Marie (Romuld) Larson, in Park River, N.D., where he attended school. He attended Concordia College in Moorhead. He joined the U.S. Army on April 25, 1941, and was among the first N.D. National Guard unit to be called for duty during World War II. He was awarded a Bronze Star. He was discharged on Sept. 3, 1945. He worked as a soils technician for the Soil Conservation Service in Park River from 1945 to 1947. He transferred to Larimore in 1947 and retired in 1971. He was involved in the tree planting process in western Grand Forks County (N.D.) Shelter Belts. He married Ruth Wertman on Aug. 12, 1950, in Deer Lodge, Mont. They lived in Larimore before moving to Grand Forks in 1995. Ruth Larson died Oct. 10, 1996. He became a resident of Valley Eldercare Nov. 19, 1997.
He is survived by daughters, Marsha Engelstad, Forest, Va., Janis (Eddie) Markham, Stewartsville, Va., and Debra (David) Bratager, Grand Forks; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Elmer "Abie" and Melvin.

Margaret 'Mugs' Nygaard
CANDO, N.D. -- Margaret "Mugs" Nygaard, 78, Cando, died Saturday, June 6, 1998, in Towner Medical Center, Cando.
Margaret Welch was born Feb. 17, 1920, the daughter of Blanchard and Myrtle (Storberg) Welch, in Rugby, N.D., where she attended school. She attended beautician's school in Fargo. She married Melvin Nygaard on May 6, 1940, in Rugby. They lived in Rugby, Wolford and Minot, before moving to Cando in 1973. She worked for the Durum House and Mel's Bar, both in Cando. Melvin Nygaard preceded her in death.
She is survived by sons, Dennis (Patricia), Burlington, N.D., Melvin Lee (Peggy), Bemidji, and Blanny (Jane), and Neil (Cindy), both of Minot; daughters, Connie (Terry) Keller, Libby, Mont., and Margaret Ann (Jerome) Goetz, Rapid City, S.D.; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; her mother, Cando; sisters, Blanche Strong, Seaside, Ore., Lois Chapman, Missoula, Mont., and Shirley Howard and Geneieve Brehm, both of Cando; and brothers, Howard, Cando, Joseph, Portland, Ore., and Blanchard, Park River, N.D.
She was preceded in death by her father; and sisters, LaVonne Steele and Evelyn Furulie.

Verva Wilson
DEVILS LAKE -- Verva Wilson, 94, Devils Lake, died Saturday, June 6, 1998, in Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.
Verva Flumerfelt was born May 20, 1904, the daughter of Sylvester and Mimi (Hayes) Flumerfelt, in Devils Lake, where she graduated from high school. She married Max Wilson in Devils Lake, where they lived. She worked for Kelly's Apparel and several other jobs in Devils Lake. Max Wilson precedes her in death.
She is survived by several cousins.
She was preceded in death by a sister Eunice McNally.
Services: 10 a.m. today, in Aaker, Dunnigan & Brooks Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake.
Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.
