Olen Kraus
Olen Kraus, 73, 2614 Olive St., died
Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at home.
Olen Kraus was born
April 7, 1924, the son of George and Mae (Schweppenheiser) Kraus, in Berwick, Pa. He attended school in Nescopeck, Pa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He attended Penn State University and received his bachelor's degree. He married
Violet Cragle on April 26, 1946, in Bloomsberg, Pa. He attended Michigan State University and received his master's degree, and in 1956, his doctorate. He began working at the University of South Dakota as a professor of physics and was chairman of the Physics Department from 1962 to 1967. He came to UND in 1967. He was a professor of physics, chairman of the physics department from 1967 to 1974, associate dean of the College of Arts and Science from 1975 to 1991, and coordinator of the Honors Program from 1971 to 1973 and again from 1984 to 1985. He retired in 1991.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Amy (Hardin Aasand) Kraus, Dickinson, N.D., and Stepanie (Bruce) Morrison, St. Louis; and a grandson.
He was preceded in death
by a brother, Jack.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Norman Funeral Home, Columbia Road.

Clifford M. Larson
NORTHWOOD, N.D. -- Clifford M. Larson, 91, formerly of Buffalo, N.D., died
Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998, in Northwood Deaconess Health Care Center, where he had lived since 1995.
Clifford M. Larson was born
Dec. 19, 1906, the son of Hans and Hannah (Kringler) Larson, in Buffalo. He farmed his entire life near Buffalo. He retired in 1984. He moved to Fordville, N.D., in 1993.
He is survived by a sister, Loraine Dryburgh, Park River, N.D.
He was preceded in death
by brothers, Delbert and Howard.
Services: 1 p.m. Friday, Buffalo Lutheran Church.
Visitation: Two hours before services in the church.
Burial: Buffalo City Cemetery
(Stennes, East Grand Forks).
Elmer Hilson
CANDO, N.D. -- Elmer Hilson, 86, Cando, died
Monday, Sept. 7, 1998, in Towner County Medical Center, Cando.
Elmer G. Hilson was born
Feb. 25, 1912, the son of Jene and Anna (Loken) Hilson, in Baker, N.D., where he attended school. He joined the U.S. Army and served from 1941 to 1945. He returned to North Dakota and worked for farmers in the Baker area. He married
Helen Lavendure on Sept. 8, 1955, in Knox, N.D. They lived in Cando, where he worked for the Jorde Potato Co. until retiring in the early 1980s. Helen Hilson died
Nov. 21, 1997.
He is survived by a brother, Afton, Dallas; and sisters, Bernice Wolf, Rugby, N.D., and Iris McBroom, Kerville, Texas.
He was preceded in death
by six brothers, and a sister.
Services: 1 p.m. today, Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home, Cando.
Visitation: 9 a.m. until time of services today in the funeral home.

Laura McLean
LANGDON, N.D. -- Laura McLean, 97, Bismarck, formerly of Langdon, died
Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998, in Baptist Care Home, Bismarck.
Laura McFarlane was born
July 12, 1901, the daughter of Alexander and Laura (Dunford) McFarlane, in Harvey Township, Cavalier County, N.D., where she attended school. She worked with Marie Mathieu learning dressmaking. She later was self-employed in Devils Lake as a dressmaker. She worked as a domestic in Bismarck.
She is survived by sisters, Elsie Sussex, Hatton, N.D., and Ada McDonald and Bessie Field, both of Langdon; and a brother, John (Ann), Langdon.
She was preceded in death
by a sister, Emily McFarlane; and brothers, Harvey and Robert.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Brooks Funeral Home, Langdon.
Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. Friday and one hour before services in the funeral home.
Burial: Harvey Center Cemetery, Langdon.
Laddie Pesek
LAWTON, N.D. -- Laddie Pesek, 76, Lawton, died
Monday, Sept. 7, 1998, in Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake.
Laddie Joseph Pesek was born
Jan. 30, 1922, the son of Joseph and Mary (Balek) Pesek, in Lawton. He married
Dorothy Skalicky on July 18, 1944, in Lawton. They farmed in the Lawton area from 1945 to 1978. They moved in 1960 into Lawton, where they owned and operated the Lawton Cafe. Dorothy Pesek died
May 22, 1973. He worked for Lawton Bar and as a part-time rural mail carrier. He was a lifelong musician from 1938 to 1998, playing in area bands including Harmony Pals, Bennie Pesek Band, Myron Pecka Band, and Pecka Band.
He is survived by sons, Duane (Louise), Devils Lake, Don (Lorna), Fargo, and Jim (LaRae), Lakota, N.D.; daughters, Kathy Langton and Kristie Pesek, both of Fargo, and Geri (Dale) Newgard, Edmore, N.D.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Rose Marie (Laddie) Pecka, Lawton, Mary Lou (Norris) Bjorge, Lakota, and Katay (Larry) Long, International Falls, Minn.; and brothers, Joey (Katherine), Lawton, and Herman (Lillian), Cascade, Mont.
He was preceded in death
by two grandsons; sisters, Alice Paul and Agnes Bina; and a brother, Bennie.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Friday, St. Catherine's Catholic Church-Lomice, Lawton.
Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Aaker Funeral Home, Lakota, and one hour before services in the church.

John D. Odegard
John D. Odegard, 57, 1002 Reeves Drive, died
Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, at home.
John Douglas Odegard was born
Sept. 12, 1941, the son of Truman and Clara (Peterson) Odegard, in Minot, where he graduated form high school. He graduated from UND. He was the founder and dean of the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences at UND. He married
Diane Rosedale on June 27, 1964, in Minot.
He is survived by his wife; a son, John (Paula) Jr., Wichita, Kansas; a daughter, Stephanie Odegard, Minneapolis; his mother, Minot; a brother, James (Cari), Grand Forks; and a sister, Joann (Lyle) Samuelson, Minot.
He was preceded in death
by his father.
Services: 1 p.m. Thursday, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a 6: 30 p.m. prayer service, in Amundson Funeral Home.
Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks. Memorials are suggested to the National Kidney Cancer Association or to St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
Willie Senum
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Willie Senum, 75, Thief River Falls, died
Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Willie Senum was born
Feb. 19, 1923, the son of Gunder and Hattie (Klockman) Senum, in Germantown, Minn. He grew up and attended school in Agder Township, Marshall County, Minn. He worked the family farm and was self-employed in farming and selling machinery parts and machinery. He married
Lila Amy Limesand on July 28, 1957, in Thief River Falls. They lived on the farm except when he worked construction of the runways at Grand Forks Airbase and worked in California for some winters. He also worked for Peterson-Biddick Co., Charlie's Tire Service and the turkey processing plant.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Gary (Marita) and Steven, Thief River Falls; his father, Portland, Ore.; sisters, Dorothy (Ainsworth) Wehus, Candy, Ore., Violet (Leonard) Bonk and Alsace Potter, both of Estacaba, Ore., and Mae Senum, Maryville, Wash.; a brother, Gunder (Sandy), Phoenix; and a sister-in-law, Donna Senum, Thief River Falls.
He was preceded in death
by a daughter, Cynthia Senum; his mother; and a brother, Edwin.
Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Our Saviour's Free Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, and one hour before services.

Le Verne E. Veum
HOOPLE, N.D. -- Le Verne E. Veum, 74, Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Hoople, died
Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998.
Le Verne Eugene Veum was born
in Hoople, N.D. He owned a dealership.
He is survived by his wife, Le Vina; sons, Jeff, Mark and Chris; seven grandchildren; and brother, Maynard.

Gilbert Foss
HATTON, N.D. -- Gilbert Foss, 85, Hatton, died
Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, in Tri-County Nursing Home, Hatton., where he had lived since July 13, 1992.
Gilbert Foss was born
April 20, 1913, the son of Lars and Andrea Foss, in Hatton, where he attended school. He was a farmer and farm laborer near Hatton.
He is survived by a brother, Lester, Hatton; sisters, Edna Nelson, Mahnomen, Minn., and Doris (Alexander) Amundson, Mounds View, Minn.
He was preceded in death
by six brothers and three sisters.

Rodney S. 'Rod' Huffman
MINNEWAUKAN, N.D. -- Rodney S. "Rod" Huffman, 45, Minnewaukan, died
Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, in Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis.
Rodney Sharon Huffman was born
Aug. 21, 1953, the son of Earl and Claris (Dickinson) Huffman, in Devils Lake. He graduated from high school in Minnewaukan in 1973. He worked road construction with companies out of Lakota and Garrison, N.D. He returned to Minnewaukan in 1979, where he farmed and owned and operated Long Lake Dairy.
He is survived by his parents; brothers, Earl Jr. (Karen), St. Cloud, Richard (Terry), Crookston, Douglas (Char Downs), Glendive, Mont., and Dick, Minnewaukan; sisters, Deborah Jones, Placerville, Calif., and Nancy (Mike) Visman, Cameno, Calif.; and his fiancee, Connie Ambers, Minnewaukan.
He was preceded in death
by a sister, Mary Annette Huffman.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Trinity Free Lutheran Church, Minnewaukan.

Clifford M. Bjerke
HOOPLE, N.D. -- Clifford M. Bjerke, 81, Hoople, died
Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, in Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, N.D.
Clifford M. Bjerke was born
Aug. 30, 1917, the son of Carl and Marie (Martinson) Bjerke, in Hoople, where he attended school. He married
Doris A. Nelson on July 3, 1940, in Crookston. They lived and farmed in Milton, N.D. and moved to Hoople in 1952. He worked for Dennis Folson Farm and later as custodian at the Hoople School and Brubakken Farms.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Jolanda (John) Glendenning, Duluth, Minn., and Barbara (Dale) Brubakken, Hoople; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; sisters, Hilda (Arvid) Gjerve, Grand Forks, and Louise Magnusson, of California.
He was preceded in death
by five brothers; and five sisters.
Services: 9: 30 a.m. today, First Lutheran Church, Hoople.
Burial: Hoople City Cemetery
