Bert Huard
Bert Huard, 91, Camarillo, Calif., formerly of Grand Forks, died Dec. 18, 1997, at home.
Bert Huard was born Jan. 27, 1906, the son of Fred and Armosa "Marie" Huard, in Thompson, N.D. He attended UND. He married Beatrice Morris, of Neche, N.D. He was a retired inspector having worked for Syline Concrete, Sun Valley, Calif. He also worked for Lockheed and General Motors.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Marlene (Larry) Smith, Sylmar, Calif.; a son, Fred (Terry), Brookings, Ore.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Stella Noles, Portland, Ore., and Catherine Garnas, Mesa, Ariz.
Services: Were held in Camarillo. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society (Conejo Mountain Memorial Park, Camarillo).
Edith Walter
BINFORD, N.D. -- Edith Walter, 77, Washougal, Wash., formerly of Binford, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, in Southwest Medical Center, Vancouver, Wash.
Edith Marie Leininger was born May 22, 1920, the daughter of Michael and Clara (Gutknecht) Leininger, in Binford, where she attended rural school. She lived in Sutton, N.D., before moving to Grand Forks. She later moved to Delles, Ore., where she worked at the John Day Dam as a fish counter. She married Kieth Walter on July 7, 1990. They lived in Washougal.
She is survived by her husband; and sisters, Alice Rahlf, Binford, and Thelma Berglund, Wolf Point, Mont.
She was preceded in death by sisers, Esther Olson, Clara Rahlf, and Gertrude Fadness; and brothers, Carl and Alfred.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, in Zion Lutheran Church, Binford.
Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. today, in Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home, Cooperstown, N.D., and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Zion Cemetery, Binford.
Ida Lindberg
GILBY, N.D. -- Ida Lindberg, 87, Galt, Calif., formerly of Gilby, N.D., died Jan. 7, 1998, in a Lodi (Calif.) convalescent hospital.
Ida Florence Rowley was born Nov. 22, 1910, in Brandon, Man. She moved with her family to North Dakota in 1910. She married Louis Lindberg in 1929. They lived and farmed near Gilby. In 1954, they moved to Galt.
She is survived by daughters, Evelyn Sayre, Galt, and Jean Scheel, Belervue, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Glen, San Diego.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and a daughter, Betty Holweger. (Ben Salas Funeral Home, Galt).
Freeman Hiaasen
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Freeman Hiaasen, 88, Thief River Falls, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, in Oakland Park Nursing Home, Thief River Falls.
Freeman Hiaasen was born April 3, 1909, the son of Christian and Caroline (Sagnes) Hiaasen. He moved with his family to New Folden Township, Marshall County, Minn. He attended school in Argyle and Newfolden, Minn. He worked in Chicago for a time, later returning to help on the family farm. He joined the U.S. Army on Nov. 12, 1942. He married Maryanne Turek on Jan. 2, 1946, in Trenton, N.J. They lived and farmed in Marshall County. He also worked at Arctic Cat. He moved to Oakland Park Nursing Home on July 23, 1997. Maryanne Hiaasen died May 8, 1990.
He is survived by daughters, Lorraine (John) Sannes, Thief River Falls, and Ilene (John) Blume, Nicollet, Minn.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Nat, Clarence, Gilbert, Hjalmer, and an infant brother; and sisters, Effie Norbo, Gunda Carlson, and Ella Rokke.
Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Newfolden.
Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. today, in Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Oak Grove Cemetery, New Folden.
Alfred Borth
NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. -- Alfred Borth, 87, New Rockford, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, in Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, where he had lived since December 1997.
Alfred Borth was born Jan. 5, 1911, the son of Fred and Regina (Anhorn) Borth, in Maple Creek, Sask. The family moved to Arena, N.D., in 1914. He grew up and attended school in Arena and Wing, N.D. He farmed with his father until 1931, when he began farming on his own. He married Freida Ehnes in 1933, in Wing. In 1936, they moved to New Rockford, where he worked for a local blacksmith. In 1939, he started farming in the Barlow, N.D., area. Freida Borth died in April 1961. He married Minnie Heinle in April 1963 in Jamestown. She died in June 1982. He married Mary Indegaard in July 1983. She died in January 1989. He retired from farming in 1993. He was a pilot and in the late 40s and early 50s flew supplies and sick people to and from town during the winters.
He is survived by a son, Gaylen (Sandy), New Rockford; three grandchildren; stepsons, Harold Heinle, Wing, Walter Heinle, Bedford, Iowa, Otto Heinle, Conway, Ark., John Indegaard, Bismarck, and LeRoy Indegaard, Fargo; stepdaughters, Alma Fandrich, Goodrich, N.D., Leona Bold, Fullerton, Calif., Ella Opp and Doris Ahlman, both of Lincoln, Neb., Linda Morgan, Cincinnati, Donna Klingman, Minot, Mary Peterson, Omaha, Neb., and Lois Ous, Crookston; and sisters, Elsie Davis, Keizer, Ore., Tillie Hamby, Prineville, Ore., Clara Overby, Belgrade, Mont., Viola Baillif, Salem, Ore., Ruby Gray, San Marcos, Calif., and Leona Thompson, Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Fred and Raymond.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Calvary Baptist Church, Carrington.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday, in Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.
Burial: Carrington Cemetery.
Elfreda Widmark
BEMIDJI -- Elfreda Widmark, 84, Bemidji, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, in Itasca Medical Center, Grand Rapids, Minn.
Elfreda Halverson was born Jan. 30, 1913, the daughter of Edward and Gedina Halverson, in Pinewood, Minn., where she attended school. She was a cook at Cabin Inn Cafe, Eddy's Cafe, and Al's Coffee Shop, all in Bemidji. She married Carl Widmark on Sept. 23, 1939, in Fosston, Minn. They lived on a farm near Alida and Shevlin, Minn., for three years in the 1940s. They lived most of their lives in Bemidji. Carl Widmark died May 21, 1986.
She is survived by a son, Gary (Garnet), Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; daughters, Emilie (Norman) Warwas, Nashwauk, Minn., Carolyn (Lloyd) Anderson, Coleraine, Minn., Cyndee (James) Holland, Cedar City, Utah, and Lynette (Tom) Walker, Gillette, Wyo.; 25 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Markel, Bemidji.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Evonne Halverson; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; a brother; and two sisters.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Cease Family Funeral Home, Bemidji.
Burial: Alida Cemetery.
Joseph Murphy
Joseph Murphy, 84, formerly of 1639 24th Ave. S., died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, in Altru Hospital.
Joseph Murphy was born May 30, 1913, the son of James and Theresa Barbara (Fink) Murphy, in Minto, N.D. He married Dorothy Stigar in Minnesota. He joined the U.S. Army from June 10, 1942, to Oct. 16, 1943. He married Marion Ida Carlson in March 1945 in Crookston. They worked in fisheries of Redmond, Wash., Los Angeles, the copper mines of Idaho, and factories in Minneapolis, before returning to Grand Forks in 1978. Marion Murphy died Feb. 5, 1989.
He is survived by a son, James Hageman, Bowstring, Minn.; three grandchildren; a sister, Agnes Purpur, Seattle; and a brother, Andrew, Bellevue, Wash.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Ernest, Francis, William, Eugene and Terrance.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Norman Funeral Home, Columbia Road.
Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.
Burial: Sunnywood Gardens Cemetery.
Bernice Radack Christoferson Pietrzyk
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Bernice Radack Christoferson Pietrzyk, 81, Red Wing, Minn., formerly of Thief River Falls and Oklee, Minn., died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, in Hi-Park Care Center, Red Wing.
Bernice Radack was born April 28, 1916, the daughter of James and Josephine (Kunnotosko) Radack, in Chicago. She moved with her family to Deer Park Township, Pennington County, Minn., where she attended school. She married Engval Christoferson on April 14, 1935, at Kratka, near Thief River Falls. They farmed in Deer Park Township. Engval Christoferson died Aug. 15, 1964. She married Walter Pietrzyk in 1968 in Chicago. They lived in Chicago before moving to Santa Barbara, Calif. Walter Pietrzyk died in 1986. She returned to her home area in Minnesota. Since 1990, she had lived in nursing homes, first at Riverview Nursing Home, Crookston, and since 1995 at Hi-Park Care Center, Red Wing.
She is survived by daughters, Darlene Kotwas, Villa Park, Ill., Barbara (Richard) Knutson, South Elgin, Ill., Donna Brown, Geneva, Ohio, and RoxAne (Lee) Hestnas, Red Wing; a son, Engval "Bud" Jr. (Kathy), Santa Barbara; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Radack Munson, Chicago.
She was preceded in death by brothers, George and James; and sisters, Marge Radack Luketich and Josephine Radack Singer.
Services: 3 p.m. Saturday, Kingdon Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Thief River Falls.
Visitation: One hour before services.
Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls (Stenshoel-Houske, Crookston).
Vern Fledderman
GRAFTON, N.D. -- Vern Fledderman, Grafton, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at home.
Vern Fledderman fought in World War II. He owned and operated a tavern in Inkster, N.D., before moving to Grafton.
He is survived by a son, Fraine; and daughters, Lori Wise and Denise Schara.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margarette "Muggins" Fledderman; two brothers; and two sisters.
Services: Private services will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Grafton VFW (Henriksen-Kamrowski, Grafton).
Russell Patterson
Russell Patterson, 74, Grand Forks, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at home.
Russell William Patterson was born June 28, 1923, the son of William and Alma (Erickson) Patterson, in Cavalier County, Langdon, N.D. He married Marlys Crockett on Sept. 23, 1951, in Grand Forks. He grew up and graduated from high school in Langdon. He attended Wahpeton (N.D.) State School of Science and McPhail Music School, Minneapolis. He worked for the Cavalier County Republican from 1947 to 1951. From 1951 to 1954, he owned and operated the Edmore (N.D.) Print Shop. In 1954, he moved to Grand Forks and worked for UND Printing Center. He retired June 1988 after 33 years.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Janice; two grandsons; a stepmother, Edith Patterson; stepsister, Luella Karties; and a half brother, Dennis Patterson.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald; stepmother, Pearl Patterson; stepbrothers, Robert and Harold Short; and stepsisters, Ruby Dame and Dorothy Norstrem.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, University Lutheran Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. today, with a 5: 30 p.m. prayer service, Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.

Bertha Reitmeier
CROOKSTON -- Bertha Reitmeier, 104, Crookston, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1998, in Riverview Nursing Home, Crookston, where she had lived since Oct. 15, 1983.
Bertha Radke was born Jan. 3, 1894, the daughter of Edward and Mary (Buechele) Radke, in Storm Lake, Iowa. She moved with her family to Crookston, where she attended schools. She married Charles William Reitmeier on April 10, 1913, in Crookston. They farmed near Crookston and in 1930 moved into Crookston. She was a homemaker. Charles Reitmeier died Jan. 2, 1950. She moved in with her daughter, Darlene, in 1973.
She is survived by a daughter, Darlene Charron, Crookston; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by daughters, Alvira Peterson and Almira Van Mill; a son, Charles; brothers, Christ, August, John and Eli; and sisters, Sophie Meyer, Emilia Boldt and Anna Dewar.
Services: 2: 30 p.m. Sunday, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Crookston.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston.
Faye Eichhorst
Faye Eichhorst, 72, 2625 S. 17th St., died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, in Altru Hospital.
Faye Ione Russell was born Aug. 2, 1925, the daughter of Earl Philip and Alice (Galegher) Russell, in Clyde, N.D. She grew up and graduated from high school in Thompson, N.D. She attended the Deaconess School of Nursing, Grand Forks. She served with the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II and as a nurse at the Deaconess Hospital, Grand Forks. She retired in 1975. She married Ernest Eichhorst Jr. on June 15, 1946, in Crookston. He died April 10, 1985.
She is survived by sons, Dean (Ann), Littleton, Colo., Lynn (Joanne) and Noel (Nancy), both of Grand Forks, Blaine (Shelly), Bettendorf, Iowa, and Todd, Ottumwa, Iowa; daughters, Denise (Richard) Bolck, and Gail (Gary) Ryba, both of Fargo; 15 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Donald, Bruce and an infant brother.
Services: 2: 30 p.m. Sunday, Wesley United Methodist Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, with a 5 p.m. prayer service, Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Sunnywood Gardens Cemetery.
