EDMORE, N.D. -- Abe T. Friesen, 81, Edmore, formerly of Grafton, N.D., died
Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, in St. Ansgar's Health Center, Park River, N.D.
Abe T. Friesen was born
Sept. 5, 1917, the son of George and Margaret (Toews) Friesen, in Langdon, N.D. He worked on the dairy farm at the Developmental Center in Grafton and in Nome, N.D. He moved to Edmore Memorial Home in 1981.
He is survived by brothers, Bernhard, Archbold, Ohio, and John (Barbara), Grafton; and a sister, Margaret (Frank) Goossen, Ste. Anne, N.D.
He was preceded in death
by brothers, George, Jacob and Peter; a brother-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Grafton Mennonite Church.
Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Tollefson Funeral Home, Grafton, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: North Unity Cemetery, Langdon.
E. Paul Hernandez
E. Paul Hernandez, 80, formerly of East Grand Forks, died
Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998, in Fargo at the home of his daughter.
E. Paul Hernandez was born
April 28, 1918, the son of Manuel and Maria (Mendoza) Hernandez, in Tampico, Mexico. He married
Viviana Garza in July 1950 in San Antonio. They moved to East Grand Forks in 1950. He graduated from UND in 1976. He was a Spanish-speaking radio announcer for KRAD and KILO radio stations in Grand Forks. He worked as a janitor at Sacred Heart Catholic grade school and taught Spanish in the area.
He is survived by children, Reyna Avila, Fargo, Robert (Dora) Lopez, San Diego, Santigo Lopez, East Grand Forks, Juanita Storselee, Parkers Prairie, Minn., and Minerva Hernandez, Albany, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death
by his wife; and a son, Manuel.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks.
Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, with a 4 p.m. prayer service, Stennes Funeral Home, East Grand Forks, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks.
Orville W. Curb
BEMIDJI -- Orville W. Curb, 78, Bemidji, died
Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, at home.
Orville Walter Curb was born
July 18, 1920, the son of Victor and Minnie (Larson) Curb, in Gemmell, Minn. He attended school in Gemmell and graduated from Northome (Minn.) High School. He married
Caroline Bloom on Dec. 25, 1942, in Kansas City, Mo. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. They lived in several communities before returning to Northome. He operated Curb's Clothing, and Curb and Peterson Logging. He was an insurance and real estate agent, and operated the Northome Theater. He worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, where he managed the Redby Sawmill. In 1981, he moved to Bemidji, where he worked with his sons at the Northland Hardwood Lumber, retiring in 1989.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Richard (Cory), Scott (Mary Boranian), Alan (Sue Russel), and Kelly (Betsie), all of Bemidji; daughters, Sandra (David) Good, Sioux Falls, S.D. and Margo (Joe) Curb Aitken, Bemidji; a daughter-in-law, Connie Curb, Bemidji; 10 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a brother, Harold (Louise), Gemmell.
He was preceded in death
by a son, Barry; a brother, Cyril; and a sister, Juanita Carlson.
Services: Private services will be held in Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Orville and Caroline Curb home.
Burial: Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to North Country Hospice and Home Care. (Olson-Schwartz, Bemidji).
Heather M. Johnson
DRAYTON, N.D. -- Heather M. Johnson, 20, Drayton, died
Sunday, Sept. 6, 1998, in an automobile accident near Red Lake Falls, Minn.
Heather Marie Johnson was born
Aug. 14, 1978, the daughter of Roger and Irene (Alley) Johnson, in Grafton, N.D., graduating from high school in 1996. She was currently attending UND, pursuing a degree in elementary education. She attended North Dakota State University. She had worked for UND, Players, Community National Bank, all in Grand Forks, and Hastings Landing and Dakota Junction Restaurants, in Drayton. She also worked in the summers at Park River Bible Camp.
She is survived by her parents, Drayton; a brother, Jeremy (Kimberly), Yucca Valley, Calif.; and her grandmothers, Delalah Knapp, Jamestown, N.D., and Mamie Johnson, Grafton, N.D.
She was preceded in death
by grandfathers, Charles Alley and Herman Johnson; and her stepgrandfather, Kenneth Knapp.
Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, Drayton Public School.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in Adamson-Austin Funeral Home, Drayton.
Burial: Drayton City Cemetery.
Albert Halvorson
NORTHWOOD, N.D. -- Albert Halvorson, 67, Northwood, died
Monday, Sept. 7, 1998, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Albert Halvorson was born
March 29, 1931, the son of John and Amanda Halvorson, in Northwood, where he attended rural school. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He married
Audrey Bahr on Dec. 31, 1959, in Crookston. He worked in construction until beginning farming in 1975. He retired in 1990. They moved to Northwood in 1992.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Shelly (Jeff) Davis, Fessenden, N.D.; three grandchildren; and his mother, Northwood.
He was preceded in death
by his father.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, Evangelical Lutheran Church, Northwood.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, Bilden Funeral Home, Northwood.
Burial: North Cemetery, Northwood.
Frank A. Brown
Frank A. Brown, 77, Kirkland, Wash., formerly of Grand Forks, died
Friday, Sept. 4, 1998.
Frank A. Brown was born
May 19, 1921, the son of William Joseph and Mabel Brenden Brown, in Grand Forks. He graduated from UND in 1944 with a degree in business. He was a page for the Kingsgate Library.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen; a son, Jeff, Poulsbo, Wash.; two grandsons; three stepgrandchildren; and sisters, Elsie Ann Wilkin, New Orleans, and Barbara Modisett, Chapel Hill, N.C.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, St. John's Episcopal Church, Kirkland. Memorials are suggested to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle, or St. John's Episcopal Church.
Minnie Hovet
HATTON, N.D. -- Minnie Hovet, formerly of Hatton, died
Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, in Williamsport, Pa.
Minnie Kayser was a native of Hatton. She married
Orlin Hovet on May 18, 1941, in Buxton, N.D. They lived in Buxton and Grand Forks. In 1958, they moved to California and recently lived in Oregon and Pennsylvania.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Claudia Kellogg, Williamsport; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services: Were held in Williamsport.
Burial: Williamsport.
George H. Cuffe
OLGA, N.D. -- George H. Cuffe, 69, Omaha, Neb., formerly of Olga, died
Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, in Omaha.
George Cuffe was born
May 10, 1929, the son of Sydney and Anne (Landsgard) Cuffe, in Olga. He attended school in Langdon, N.D. He served in the U.S. Army from Oct. 23, 1948 to Sept. 4, 1951, during the Korean War.
He is survived by Wilma Cuffe; sons, George, Alan and Brian, all of Omaha, and Terry (Nancy), Flemington, N.J.; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a brother, Lewellyn, Fargo; and sisters, Beryl Morgan, Long Beach, Calif., Agnes Cruser, Hayward, Calif., Joy Elliott, Washington Courthouse, Ohio, and Carrie (Marce) Charbonneau, Ada, Mich.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, Olga.

Mayme Corbit
WALHALLA, N.D. -- Mayme Corbit, 94, Walhalla, died
Monday, Sept. 7, 1998, in Pembilier Nursing Center, Walhalla.
Mary Jane Lang was born
Oct. 22, 1903, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Jane (Yeado) Lang, in Leroy, N.D., where she graduated from high school. She graduated from business college in Grand Forks. She married
Percy Corbit on Jan. 27, 1923, in Leroy. They lived in Crystal, N.D., and Leroy. They ran the grocery store and post office in Leroy. They moved to Walhalla in 1939. She worked for various businesses in Walhalla and was an insurance agent. Percy Corbit died
Feb. 8, 1967. She was a member of the Degree of Honor for 46 years, where she held state and national offices.
She is survived by sons, James (Elda), Walhalla, Donald (Jean), Rathdrum, Idaho, and Richard (Ella), Blarchard, Idaho; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by a grandson.
Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, St. Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla.
Visitation: 7 to 8 p.m. today, with an 8 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services all in the church.
Burial: St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery

Minnie Johnston
DEVILS LAKE -- Minnie Johnston, 84, Devils Lake, formerly of Minnewauken, N.D., died
Monday, Sept. 7, 1998, in Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake.
Minnie Bryn was born
July 9, 1914, the daughter of Thorvald and Marit (Odegard) Bryn, in Grand Harbor Township, Ramsey County, N.D. She graduated from high school in Devils Lake, in 1932. She attended Minot State Teachers College, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught in Grand Harbor Township and in Benson County. She married
Leo Joseph Johnston on June 15, 1939, in Devils Lake, where they lived. In 1950, they moved to Minnewauken, where they farmed. They retired in 1976. They continued to live on the farm, spending winters in Devils Lake. Leo Johnston died
Jan. 9, 1983. She later moved to Devils Lake.
She is survived by a sister, Ellen Hatter, Devils Lake; a brother, Raymond (Evelyn), Devils Lake; and a sister-in-law, June Bryn, Devils Lake.
She was preceded in death
by sisters, Olga Bryn, Clara Moen, Agnes Douglas, Gladyce Burns; and brothers, Arthur, Theodore, Merton, and Kenneth.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, and 9 a.m. to noon, Friday, Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Devils Lake Cemetery.
Michele F. Krom
FAIRDALE, N.D. -- Michele F. Krom, 33, Fairdale, died
Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, in Cavalier County Memorial Hospital, Langdon, N.D., from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Michele F. Dick was born
April 26, 1965, the daughter of Roger and Harriet (Anderson) Dick, in Devils Lake. She grew up and attended school in Roseau and Thief River Falls, Minn. She worked at a group home in Fargo. She married
Keith Krom on June 26, 1993, in Langdon. They lived in Langdon until the spring of 1994, when they moved to Fairdale.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Jalec, at home; her mother, Harriet (Thomas) Selleys, Edmore, N.D.; father, Roger (Harriet), Everett, Wash.; a sister, Carla (Mike) Torgerson, Thief River Falls; a brother, Kenneth (Brenda), Edmore; and grandparents, Harry Anderson, Edmore, Faye Clingaman, Everett, and Ruth Dick, Roseau.
She was preceded in death
by her grandfather and great-grandparents, George and Inga Sholy and Jasper and Ellen Dick.
Services: 2: 30 p.m. Thursday, Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, Fairdale.
Visitation: 5 to 7: 30 p.m. today, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services all in the church.
Burial: Edmore Cemetery.
