Emma Heiser
Emma Heiser, 93, Dickinson, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010 at the St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson. Emma’s Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 13 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Rev. Keith Streifel as the celebrant assisted by Deacon Al Schwindt. Entombment will follow at the Dickinson Mausoleum.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Al Schwindt presiding.
Emma Jordan was born July 31, 1917 in the Grassy Butte area, the daughter of Adam and Flora (Rice) Jordan. As a small girl, the family moved northwest of Killdeer. She attended school at Killdeer, often walking five miles in the cold of winter. As she grew up, the Jordan family moved about 20 miles north of Gladstone.
On May 31, 1937, Emma married George N. Heiser at Hirschville. They purchased a farm 23 miles northeast of Dickinson, where they remained until November 1961, when they moved to Dickinson.
To this union two daughters were born, Eileen and Gladys. Emma was a typical farm wife, raising chickens, milking cows and feeding hogs. She always raised a huge garden giving a lot of it away. She did a lot of canning fruits, vegetables and jelly. She was an excellent cook and baker, too.
In her spare time she enjoyed needlework and sewing. She embroidered dishtowels and every family member received several sets. Her pride showed in all the clothes she sewed for herself and others.
After moving to Dickinson in 1961, George continued to dig water wells. They also sold fishing bait in the shop called “Minnow Haven.” Emma moved to Evergreen in July 2008 until Jan. 2010, then to St. Benedict’s for a short time and on to St. Luke’s Home, where she passed away.
Emma is survived by her daughters, Eileen Heinert and Gladys Weiler; six grandchildren, Sharol (Mark) Haugen, Kevin (Laurie) Heinert, Curt (Marilyn) Heinert, Dean (Tammie) Weiler, Doreen (Kevin) Senn and Carla (Trevor) Wilson; 12 great-grandchildren, Melissa (Dustin) Humphrey, Brandon Heinert, Rachel, Jacob and Joshua Heinert, Taylor Kurtz, Nathan and Olivia Weiler, Samantha and Tyler Senn, Logan and Peyton Wilson; one great-great-grandson, Logan Humphrey; sisters, Julianna Jahner, Eleanore (Bill) Steckler and Caroline (Nick) Weinberger; and sisters-in-law, Tillie Jordan and Ruth Jordan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George on April 20, 2000; her parents; sons-in-law, Cornie Weiler and Peter Heinert; great-granddaughter, Sarah Ann Haugen; brothers and sister-in-law, Max, Harry (Cecelia) and Tony Jordan; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rose (Florian) Wanner, Tillie (Sebastian) Stroh, Raymond Jahner, and Paul Heinert; and an infant sister.
Mom, we love and miss you, you will remain in our hearts forever.
Arrangements are with Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.
Elmer Dvirnak
Elmer Dvirnak, 94, Killdeer, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010 at his home north of Killdeer. Interment will take place at 10 a.m., Tuesday at the Oakdale Cemetery, Killdeer, followed by a celebration of his life at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 14 at Evangelical Bible Church, Dickinson with Rev. Wayne Dvirnak and Rev. Karen Dvirnak officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.
Elmer Dvirnak was born on Dec. 14, 1915 in the Fayette community. He was the second son of Jack and Mary (Sahaydak) Dvirnak. He grew up on his parents’ farm and attended the Rich Loam School through the fifth grade. After the Dvirnak family moved to the Diamond C. Ranch west of Killdeer, he completed his elementary education at the Oakdale School.
As a young man Elmer established his own ranch in the Killdeer Mountains. Elmer married Kathryn “Kay” Fannik of Max, on June 25, 1944. After five years, they moved a short distance east of the Killdeer Mountains, where the family home is currently located.
Elmer was active in the community, having served on the board of the Killdeer Equity Elevator before and during the transition to the Harvest States Cooperative. He also served on the local Farmers Home Administration, a former agency of the United States Department of Agriculture. He belonged to Gideons International and was active in the Killdeer Baptist Church. He not only served as church treasurer for many years but also helped to build the physical structure. In his later years, he attended Immanuel Baptist Church in Dickinson.
He farmed and ranched in the Killdeer community all his life. The Christian ministry at Camp Bentley was a high priority for him. He faithfully attended the American Baptist Men’s annual conferences and enjoyed preparing the facilities for the camping season. He also enjoyed recreational camping, hunting in the Killdeer Mountains and fishing in Lake Sacagawea.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Kay of Killdeer and three children: Wayne (Ingrid) Dvirnak, Elizabeth, Colo., Deborah (Monte) Greenup, Dickinson, Tim (Sally) Dvirnak, Killdeer. Other survivors include five grandchildren: Aron (Kim) Dvirnak, Parker, Colo., Jason (Kassidy) Skjervem, Minot, Kayla (Ryan) Schwartz, Grafton, Josh (Sarah) Dvirnak, Minot, Elizabeth (Kory) Krenz, Killdeer, and six great-grandchildren, Cole, Micah, Hudson, Jillian, Asher, and Trent. Also surviving him are six siblings: John, Alick, Kathryn, Alice, George, Nettie; and five step-siblings: Katie, Joe, Andrew, Alice and Lucy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Lizzie; one son, Elton; one brother, Albert, and three step-siblings: Mary, Ann, and Frankie.
In lieu of flowers and plants, the family requests that memorials be given to Camp Bentley. Arrangements are with Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.
Mary Jane Overton, Dickinson
Visitation for Mary Jane Overton, 65, Dickinson, will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7 with a time of remembrance being held at 7 p.m.
Mary Jane passed away Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 at Triumph Hospital in Mandan.
Mary Jane Henn, daughter of Sylvester and Ada (Stokes) Henn was born March 20, 1945 on the family farm near Elgin, Neb. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin. She attended St. Boniface Elementary School, graduated from St. Boniface High School with the class of 1963 and later attended trade school in Minnesota before returning to Nebraska and marrying Ralph Overton.
She lived throughout the Midwest, spending time in Nebraska, Montana, New Mexico, Missouri and North Dakota. She finally settled in Dickinson where she has lived for the last 20 years. Mary Jane’s hobbies included crafts, playing cards, reading, gardening, and crocheting. The greatest joy in her life was her grandchildren and she enjoyed every moment spent with them.
Mary Jane is survived by her 5 brothers: Floyd (Marlene) Henn, Roger (Joan) Henn, Dean (Mary Jane) Henn, Dan (Readean) Henn, Terry (Jan) Henn, all of Nebraska; 1 sister: Lois (Robert) Camp of South Dakota; 2 sons: Trent Overton of St.Louis; Nolan (LaCota) Overton of Dickinson; and 1 daughter: Nicole Overton of Dickinson; and her 8 grandchildren: Jacob, Zachary, Jennifer, Kelton, Vanessa, KaDynse, Danta, EvaRyst; Also calling her grandma: Affinity, Connor and MyKa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester and Ada Henn, her sister, Delores Henn, sister-in-law Marjorie Henn, and niece Cindy Bohaboj.

Mary Ann Kjos, Dickinson
Funeral services for Mary Ann Kjos, 66, Dickinson, will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 7 at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dickinson with Rev. Jim Braaten celebrating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Richardton.
Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 6, at the Stevenson Funeral Home with a rosary and vigil service being recited at 4 p.m., Deacon Gene Morman officiating. Visitation will continue on Tuesday one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the Stevenson Funeral Home.
Mary Ann passed away Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Dickinson.
Mary Ann Leintz was born on Sept. 15, 1943 to Edmund and Cecilia (Hauck) Leintz on a farm in Dunn County. She moved with her family as a young girl to Milwaukee, Wis. where she graduated from high school and attended a year of college. She moved back to North Dakota to help take care of her mother.
Mary Ann was married to Dean Kjos on Nov. 30, 1963 in New Rockford. To this union four children were born: Lori, Tim, Randy and Jeff. Mary Ann enjoyed crafts of all types as well as playing bingo, which she called her work in later years. Her good friend Eileen was her favorite bingo partner. She also enjoyed music and played the accordion and organ. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dickinson.
Mary Ann always loved and enjoyed her children and grandchildren and getting together with all of the family. She always made hand painted T-shirts for her grandchildren on special occasions, which they will always cherish.
Survivors include, her husband, Dean, Dickinson; a daughter, Lori (Eric) Moldenhauer, Wright, Wyo; three sons, Tim (Lori) Kjos, Gillette, Wyo, Randy (Nickie) Kjos, Dickinson, and Jeff Kjos, Dickinson; a sister, Jane (Michael) Miller, Rangely, Colo; five brothers, Ralph (Casey) Leintz, Tomahawk, Wis., Pete (Jane) Leintz, Fla., Leonard Leintz, Slinger, Wis., Edward (Pam) Leintz, Atlanta, Ga. and Frank (Bonnie) Leintz, Fruita, Colo.; fifteen grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law, Sharon Leintz.

Ragan Marie Tillitt
Memorial services for Ragan Marie Tillitt will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4 at Bustard’s Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Adams, Grace Bible Baptist Church, officiating. Cremation has taken place.
Ragan, 43, passed away Aug. 27, 2010 at Swedish Medical Center, Denver from a short, courageous battle with cancer.
Ragan was born Oct. 16, 1966 in Billings, Mont. to Jacob and Sandra Renner. She graduated from Midwest High School in 1985. Ragan married her high school sweetheart, Phillip Tillitt on March 29, 1986 while he was serving in the Navy. After leaving the Navy, they moved to Casper, Wyo. in 1996. Ragan worked off and on in retail sales while going to Casper College, where she graduated with an associate degree in computer science in 2003.
She loved collecting flamingos, enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening in her flower beds and interior decorating. Ragan had the ability to take used and worn out items and make them look like new.
She is survived by her husband and best friend, Phillip; son, Christopher; daughter, Nichole; all of Casper; parents Jacob and Sandra Renner of Belfield; mother-in-law, Terre Tillitt of Casper; grandmother, Pat Nading of Cody, Wyo.; stepmother, Trudi Renner; stepbrother, Troy Howe; stepsister, Kassi Howe and niece Maddy, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and her special four legged friends, Bubba and Mindy.
She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Richard Tillitt, grandfather, Lyle Nading, grandparents, Pete and Anna Smith.
