Josephine "Jo" Emter

Mass of Christian Burial for Josephine Emter, 95, of Bismarck, formerly of Glen Ullin, will be 10:30 A.M., CDT, Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin with Fr. Jeff Zwack celebrating. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery, rural Glen Ullin.

Visitation for Josephine will be 5:00 P.M.-7:30 P.M. CDT, Friday, July 29th at the church with a rosary and vigil service being held at 6:30 P.M. CDT.

Josephine passed away Monday, July 25, 2016 at Marion Manor in Glen Ullin.

Josephine was born October 2, 1920 in Brisbane, ND, the daughter of Matt and Katie (Kraft) Bonogofsky. Growing up she attended school, graduating from Carson High School in 1940. She also attended Dickinson State College for a year. On November 10, 1943, Josephine married Andrew Emter at St. Joseph Church in rural Glen Ullin. They were blessed with six children, Ron, Jane, Sandy, Gary, Larry and Jeff. Following their marriage, the couple farmed until 1960. Josephine was a dedicated mother, farmwife and she was a school teacher for a short time, before becoming a nurse’s aide. She touched many lives serving as a nurse’s aide for 30 years, retiring in 2000. Josephine enjoyed family time at Lake Tschida. She enjoyed german cooking, fishing, pulling weeds, word search, walking and being around her grandchildren. Josephine was a member of Christian Mothers and Lioness. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.

Josephine is survived by her daughters, Jane (Harvey) Koster and Sandy (Don) Peterson, both of Bismarck; sons, Ron (Donna) of Bismarck, Gary (Jackie) of Hazen, Larry (Julie) of Elgin, Jeff (Ann) of Colorado; sisters; Margaret Emch, Mary Wells and Bernice Zimmerman; brother Dave (Marlynann) Bonogofsky; grandchildren, Kris Janey, Eric Emter, AJ Emter (Lynette), Joel Emter (Jessica), Katie Rodman (Juston), Jaine Johnson (Casey), Rick Emter (Tera), Josh Fuchs (Nancy), Jon Aune (Crystal), Jill Smith (Shane), Sarah Emter, Tasha Schock, Shannon Peterson (Lynn), Sheena Campbell (Brian), Eric Koster (Erica), Amber Koster; and 27 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Matt and Katie; husband, Andrew “Andy” (2005); sisters, Ann Weinberger, Dorothy Woodbury, Agnes Senn; brothers, Jake, Frank, Gottlieb and Jim Bonogofsky; grandson-in-law, Ted Janey.

Chandler Schmidt

A funeral service for Chandler Schmidt, 21, of Glen Ullin, ND, will be 10:30 A.M., CDT, Friday, July 29, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin with Pastor Albert Lautenschlager officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery.

Visitation for Chandler will be 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M., CDT, Thursday, July 28th at the church with a prayer service being held at 6:00 P.M., CDT.

Chandler passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2016 due to natural causes.

Chandler Walter Schmidt was born August 4, 1994 in Bismarck, just ahead of his twin brother, Coleton, bringing great joy to his parents, Jamie and Rhonda Schmidt, and his older brother Channing. He grew up on the family farm south of Glen Ullin and attended school in Glen Ullin. While growing up on the farm, he and his brother Coleton could be found riding dirt bike, riding horses, playing on hay bales, going on four-wheeler rides to check cows and enduring many unforgettable adventures together. The boys shared a love for basketball at a young age and played together in many optimist tournaments as well as on a team until their freshman year in high school. While Chandler was growing up, you could usually find him with Landon and Coleton, who were known as "The 3 Amigos". Chandler and Coleton have always been best friends despite the many short lived feuds they may have had, they have always had each other’s back. Together, Chandler and Coleton worked diligently to help keep their older brother, Channing, in line by ensuring that Mom and Dad knew exactly what he was up to.

Chandler had many jobs after high school, but was currently working as a farmhand. He recently started raising his own bottle calves with hopes of someday taking over the family farm in partnership with Coleton. Chandler was a jokester who had a wonderful sense of humor that was loved by everyone who knew him. He always had a smile on his face and was full of life. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, including his nephew, Camden and niece, Zaylee, along with his dog Bella, who was his faithful companion. He loved football and was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan. Chandler will be remembered for his generous and giving attitude and his big, wonderful smile.

Chandler is survived by his parents, Jamie and Rhonda; brother, Channing (Lauren) Schmidt and nephew, Camden and niece, Zaylee of Dickinson; twin brother, Coleton Schmidt of Glen Ullin; Grandparents, Roger and Louise Roth; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by an infant sibling and his grandparents, Darla and Walter Schmidt.

Harvey Schatz

A funeral service for Harvey Aldean Schatz, 74, of Mandan, will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 22, 2016 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson. Burial will be at Bethesda Cemetery, rural Richardton.

Visitation for Harvey will be from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

Harvey passed away Sunday, July 17, 2016 at his home in Mandan.

Harvey Aldean was born November 6, 1941 in Stark County, south of Antelope, the son of Emanuel and Pauline (Heiple) Schatz. Growing up he went to country school and later attended school in Elgin, ND. Harvey was inducted into the US Army and served during Vietnam. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Dickinson. Harvey later moved to Richardton before making his final home in Mandan. He enjoyed playing the accordion, playing cards, and spending time with his family. Harvey enjoyed camping outdoors with his nephews and nieces and especially enjoyed attending Christmas programs. Harvey worked for Robert Martin in Mott in the concrete business, later going to work for Trimline for several years. Through the years he worked for various business and contractors in the Dickinson, Richardton, Hebron, Mandan and Bismarck areas. In his later years, he enjoyed traveling with his special friend, Elaine Boozeny, and helping out on her son’s farm along with his nephew George. Harvey enjoyed the company of his beloved dog “Mitch”.

Harvey is survived by his special friend, Elaine Boozeny of Butte, ND; daughters, Nicole (Wayde) Ackinson of Lemmon, SD, Nina Kolling of New England; brother, Leo (Angie) Schatz of Dickinson; sisters, Viola Hummel of Mott, Betty (Leonard) Steckler of Dickinson, Shirley Hoffmeyer of Valley City, Jane Mayer of Richardton; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emanuel and Pauline Schatz; and brother, Marvin Schatz.

Emma Hinshaw

A funeral service for Emma Hinshaw, 92, of Dickinson will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, with Pastor Karen Dvirnak officiating. Burial will take place in Werner Cemetery.

Visitation for Emma will be from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 19 at Stevenson Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Emma passed away Sunday, July 17, 2016 at CHI St. Alexius Health – Dickinson.

Emma Fandrich was born March 8, 1924 north of Golden Valley, ND, the daughter of Benjamin and Mary (Mueller) Fandrich. She grew up and attended country grade school near the family farm. Emma went to work on the Gustafson Ranch. It was during this time that she met Glenn Hinshaw and the two were married on September 18, 1953 in Manning, ND. The couple moved to Bismarck while Emma worked at Vi’s Café for a few years. In 1956 they moved to the farm near Halliday. It was there where they made their home and raised their three daughters. Emma was a hard worker and could often be found working side by side with Glenn on the farm. Emma and Glenn retired to Dickinson in 1989 and have made their home there ever since.

Emma enjoyed gardening, quilting, and embroidering. She also enjoyed going fishing. Emma’s special time was that spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all.

She is survived by her daughter Mary (Gary) Lukach, Dickinson, ND; Sharon (Melvin) Schuh, Killdeer, ND; grandchildren, Jen (Scott) Buckman; Chris (Randi Spradley) Schuh; Katie (Ryan) Inman; Nathan Monette; great-grandchildren, Camren and Lillie Buckman; sisters, Irene Mjolhus, Dunn Center; Wilma Kling, Killdeer, ND; son-in-law, Mark (Olivia) Monette, Lubbock, TX; two sisters-in-law, Bobbi Fandrich and Liz Fandrich; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Emma was preceded in death by both of her parents, husband, Glenn; daughter, Audrey Monette; granddaughter, Cheryl Schuh; sister, Alma Reeb; and three brothers, Ewald, Emil and Norman.

Magdalena "Lena" Bittner

A private family service will be held for Magdalena Bittner, 93, of Dickinson, with Stevenson Funeral Home.

Lena passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at her daughter’s (Carol and Jim Hawn) home.

Lolly Doll

A Funeral services for Lorene “Lolly” Doll, 77, of Hebron, will be 11:00 a.m. CDT, Friday, July 8, 2016 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Hebron. Burial will follow in St Ann’s Cemetery.

Visitation for Lolly will be at 6:00 p.m. CDT, July 7, 2016 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with a Rosary and Vigil being held at 7:00 p.m.

Lorene “Lolly” Doll, long-time resident of Hebron, passed away Thursday, June 30 at St. Alexius Health in Bismarck.

Lorene “Lolly” Christine Doll was born on a farm near Glen Ullin, ND on July 11, 1938. She lived on the family farm until she moved to Hebron. After moving to Hebron, she worked as a cashier at Urbans Inc. and then for many years at Lapps Jack and Jill. Recently she worked at the Richardton Health Center where she enjoyed spending her extra time there visiting with the residents. She was an active member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Hebron.

Lolly’s faith and family were the most important things in her life. She spent her spare time doing puzzles, gardening, and sewing. She enjoyed spending time with her sister Dorene, and traveling to visit her nieces and nephews, and her great nieces and nephews. She treasured those times she spent with her family and ‘spoiling’ the young ones. She hopes she left them with many memories over the years.

She is survived by her sisters; Dorene Wiege, Hebron, Irene Wetzel (Pete) Glen Ullin; brother-in-law, Delmar Becker, Glen Ullin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Matt and Christine (Emter) Doll; sisters, Rita Wetzel (Alvin) and Jane Becker; brother, Duane Doll; and her brother-in-law Harry Wiege.

Barb Dohrmann

Funeral service for Barb Dohrmann, 74, of Taylor will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Living Word Fellowship, Dickinson, ND with Pastor Tim Voth officiating. Burial will follow in Immanuel Cemetery, rural Taylor.

Visitation for Barb will be from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with a prayer service being held at 7:00 p.m.

Barbara went to be with the Lord on June 30, 2016 at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson.

Barbara Faye Johnston was born in Grand Forks, ND on August 4, 1941 to DeWitt (Dewey) and Dorothy (Newgard) Johnston. She attended St. Mary’s Grade School and graduated from St. James High School in 1959. She attended UND for one year and Aakers Business School. Barb worked as a secretary to the Dean of the UND Law School in Grand Forks, NDSU Plant Pathology Department and Animal Science Department where she met and married Fred while he was working on his master’s degree in economics, and moved to his farm in Taylor, ND where they spent many wonderful years together. They raised 4 wonderful children; Jackie, Joshua, Jeremy and Jason and their family has given them so much joy and wonderful times, attending church and church functions, 4-H and school functions over the years.

Barb’s faith and family were the most important things in her life and she always felt God had blessed her in so many ways and that her life changed when she invited the Lord into her heart as her personal savior. She treasured the times she spent with her 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and they all have given her so much laughter and joy. She hopes she left them all with many memories over the years and a love and trust for the Lord in each of their lives.

Barb is a member of Living Word Fellowship where she participated in Women’s Ministry, Bible Lenten Services, Lunch with a Bunch and was in charge of the greeting ministry at Living Word Fellowship for many years.

Barb was courageous in her 6 year fight with cancer. She was so thankful and blessed to have Fred, who was a great caregiver for all these years and who never complained; a family to get her through the tough times and always be there for her; for friends and relatives; Pastor Tim & Sharon; and all who never stopped praying, sending cards, and encouraging her through it all. Her faith and trust in the Lord grew during this trial and she always felt His presence in her life. She always hoped during her fight with cancer that she also encouraged others to get through their trials.

Barb loved spending time in her flower gardens, reading, traveling and visiting with people. She also enjoyed crafting as she and Jackie had a craft business for 10 years, attending many craft shows.

She is survived by her husband and best friend, Fred, Taylor; one daughter, Jackie (Tracey) Hoff; three sons, Joshua (Amy), Jeremy, Jason (Michelle), all of Dickinson; four grandchildren, Amber (Kyle) Kuntz, Beaudi, Rylie and Ian; four great-grandchildren, Ava, Brody, Finley Joy and Grayson; one sister, Patricia Deziel, Grand Forks, ND; sister-in-law, Betty Johnston, Davenport, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Allan Johnston; and one granddaughter, Ashley Marie Hoff.

A memorial has been established for Barb at Living Word Fellowship, PO Box 563, Dickinson, ND.
