Visitation for Alan will be 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., Thursday, February 26 at the Wibaxu Bible Church with a prayer service being held at 6:00 p.m.
Alan passed away Friday, February 20, 2015 in Glendive at Glendive Medical Center after a long battle with a number of illnesses, with his dedicated and loving wife, Nancy by his side.
Alan was born to Jack and Ruth Etta (Petermann) Bacon in Chicago, IL on September 12, 1954. He joined two older sisters. The family moved back to Wibaux when Alan was 8 months old. Alan grew up in Wibaux, attended Wibaux schools, and graduated from Wibaux County High School in 1972. He loved to play basketball and was noted for his high scoring ability. It was during this time at a scrimmage that Alan was given the nickname “Gofer” by Ron Sampson that has remained with him all of his life.
He worked and saved his money to attend college. He and Carla Rohan were married in 1973 and they moved to Helena, MT where Alan attended Helena Tech for two years. After college, Alan lived in Wibaux and worked with his Dad, until later when they moved to New Orleans, LA, where his daughter Rikki, Alan’s pride and joy, was born. Alan worked for nearly 30 years in the offshore oil industry as an electronics technician, specializing in underwater remote controlled vehicles. He returned to his hometown of Wibaux in Montana, but continued in a management position for his company. He would fly back and forth from Wibaux to New Orleans or Houston and went on several other travels and adventures his career took him on, including working in Africa, until his health forced him to retire early.
In 2000, Alan met Nancy Jonas and it was then that he told friends and family “I’m going to marry that girl”, and on April 10, 2010 in Beach, ND, Alan did just that. Together, Nancy and Alan have owned and operated the Rainbow Club since the fall 2010.
He enjoyed watching his daughter Rikki grow into the amazing person she has become, reading, especially his bible, Alan loved listening to music, going to concerts, and could always be found cruising the back roads and riding his four wheeler when the weather was warm. Alan would always fill the room with laughter and smiles with his sense of humor and many jokes. Alan was born a fan of the Wibaux Longhorns Football and attended every game right up to this year State Championship game. Alan’s love of football was immense and of course his favorite team was none other than the New Orleans Saints. Alan was often heard in conversation with friends saying “Who Dat”.
When not watching football Alan could be found at home snuggled up with his two Yorkshire terriers, Annabelle and Lolabelle. Alan was mostly known to his family and friends to be generous, compassionate, and for the use of his favorite word “Bull Corn”. It was rarely known that Alan would ever complain of being in any discomfort and his wife would say Alan was sick for 11 of the 15 years she has known him, but Alan would not let illness stand in the way of his faith. It was Dr. Leal who said, “I have treated this man through 11 of his 9 lives”. Alan was a testament of his own strength and his faith in God and found in the pages of his bible he had written, “God does not call the equipped. God equips the called”.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, and his father, Jack H. Bacon (April 2005).
Alan is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Rikki of Bismarck, ND; mother, Ruth Bacon of Glendive, MT; sisters, Jacquelin (Randy) Robinson of Billings, MT, Melodie Heiny of Wibaux and Yvette (Dan) Leaman of Billings, MT; brothers, Wesley (Linda) Bacon of Wibaux and Randall (Barb) Bacon of Austin, MN; Step-Mother Janet Bacon of Wibaux; Step-Daughters; Summer (Jordan) LaBelle of Wibaux, Sierra Jonas of Beach, ND; Step-Granddaughters Skarlette and Jorja LaBelle of Wibaux, and numerous nieces and nephews.
