Levi Hammond
A funeral service for Levi R. Hammond, 36, of Dickinson, will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Break Forth Bible Church in Dickinson with Pastor Larry Phalen officiating. Lunch will be served at the church following the service. Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday in the Beach Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Beach Evangelical Church.
A Family and Friends gathering will be held at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 24th at the church with public visitation from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Levi passed away Friday, February 19, 2016 near Sheridan, WY due to an avalanche while snowmobiling.
Levi Robert was born July 20, 1979 in Dickinson, the son of Ed and Cheryl (Weinreis) Hammond. He attended grade school in Golva and high school at Beach, where he was a graduate with the class of 1997. Levi worked for the Minatare Feedlot and Weinreis Brothers. Following graduation, he attended Williston State College and studied Diesel Technology. Levi worked at West Plains Implement before attending Rhema Bible Training College in 2003. He then came to the Beach/Golva area where he worked and spent two summers fighting fire on the strike team with the National Forest Service in Montana. In 2005, Levi met the love of his life, Becky Jaschob. They were married on December 28, 2007 in Bismarck. The couple was blessed with three sons, Gage, Bodey and Rawley. They lived in Bismarck for a short time before moving to Dickinson. Levi began working for Butler Machinery in 2007. He was an active member of the Dickinson Fire Department and was a past member of the Beach/Golva Fire Department. Levi was a vital part of Break Forth Bible Church and thoroughly enjoyed playing bass guitar every Sunday morning. He was passionate about hunting, snowmobiling, camping, driving truck and working cattle. Above all else though, his passion was to serve his Heavenly Father and to be a great husband and father. Levi will be dearly missed by his family and his community.
Levi is survived by his wife, Becky; his three sons, Gage (6), Bodey (4) and Rawley (1); parents, Edwin and Cheryl Hammond; parents-in-law, Paul and Cheryl Jaschob; brother, Joshua (Maria) Hammond of Dickinson; sisters, Karla Hammond of Dickinson, Anna Hammond and Beth (Josh) Banks both of Golva, Amy Hammond of Austin, TX; sisters-in-law, Krista (Jeremy) Duckwitz of Moffit, ND and Michelle (Randy) Hoovestol of Bismarck; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Rienzi & Jean Hammond and Lloyd & Violet Weinreis.

Additional parking for the funeral will be available near the church by Dickinson Ready Mix Company and UPS along with shuttle service available from the Biesiot Activity Center parking lot and Stevenson Funeral Home.
Helen Jensen
A Celebration of Helen’s Life will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 6, 2015 at the American Lutheran Church in Baker. Friends and family may visit with the family on Thursday, November 5, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Baker Senior Center. Helen’s wishes were to be cremated and inurnment will take place at a later date.
Helen Margaret Jensen, 91, of Baker, Montana, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2015, at Superior Care Villa surrounded by her loving family.
She was born to the late Hieronymus and Helga Tunby on November 23, 1923 in Houghton, South Dakota. Helen attended school at the Dry Forks Country School and Baker High School, before attending St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Fargo, North Dakota, where she earned her RN degree. She truly enjoyed her career as a nurse in Baker, retiring at age 70. She was an active member of the American Lutheran Church, which was an important part of her life.
She married Delmar Jensen on March 1, 1947. Helen and DJ had six children, Teri, Penny (Tim) Sikorski, Bruce (Jeanne) Jensen, Brian (Debbie) Jensen, Leslie (John) Henson, and Jill Jensen.
Family and friends were Helen’s passion and delight. She grew up on the family ranch north of Westmore with her three sisters and four brothers. Family gatherings, coffee with friends, quilting at the church, playing cards, and music were things that she enjoyed.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her infant daughter Teri, her sister, Edith Johnson, and her brother Gordon Tunby.
Helen is survived by her husband and children, her brothers, Roy Tunby, Maurice Tunby, Rolf Tunby; and her sisters, Elphie Wood and Marie Moe; her grandchildren, Trevor (Stacy) Sikorski, Taryn Sikorski, Casey (Ashley) Jensen, Kirsten (Byron) Cooper, Jeremy (Shelie) Jensen, Rian (Jodi) Jensen, Carissa (Keaton) Hughes, Hannah, Mika, and Mikey Jensen, Kayla (Justin) Apple, and Tyler Henson; her great grandchildren, Tayden, Maura, and Garritt Sikorski, Rowan Jensen, Tor and Tryg Cooper, Ryan Joe and Arius Jensen, Hailee Cortez, and Apollo Apple; and son-in-law, Steve Hirsch. She leaves behind numerous other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Superior Care Villa for their exceptionally compassionate care of Helen, especially during these last weeks; Pastors Reba and Bruce Kolasch; and all of Helen’s friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the American Lutheran Church in Baker.
Fern Mae Belland
A Funeral service for Fern Mae Belland, 87, of Dickinson, formerly of New England, will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 11, 2015, at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in New England with Pastor Bruce Peterson officiating. Burial will take place in Rainy Butte Cemetery.
Visitation for Fern will be 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson and one hour prior to the service at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in New England.
Fern Mae passed away September 5, 2015, at Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck, ND.
Fern Mae was born February 17, 1928 in New England, ND, the daughter of Ellert and Anna G. (Nessemo) Erickson. She graduated from New England High School with the class of 1946. She attended Concordia College and Dickinson State. Fern went on to earn her teaching certificate and taught at Strehlow School. On August 7, 1949, Fern married Art Belland. They lived in New England and raised their five children; Terrence, Timothy, Dwight, Lu Anna and Linda. Fern and Art owned the Jack and Jill Grocery store with Fred Schatz for a few years in the late 1960’s. They were very involved with the Boy Scout Program and they were also advisors for Luther League. The family enjoyed their annual campout at Mossett Bay.
She enjoyed her flower gardens, baking, and crocheting. Most of all, Fern loved her time with her children and grandchildren. She moved to Hawks Point in Dickinson in 2010 and became a resident of Missouri Slope Care Center in 2014. We loved her and will miss her deeply. Our fond memories of her kindness will live on in all who knew her.
Fern is survived by her sons; Terrence (Donna) of Bellevue, WA, Timothy (Gail) of Dickinson, ND, Dwight (Nancy) of New England; daughter, Linda Reller of Bismarck, ND; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ellert and Anna; husband, Art; brothers, Jay, Elmer, Melvin, Merle; sisters, Hazel, Annabelle, Stella, Bernice, Clara; daughter, Lu Anna Reller and granddaughter, Stacey Meduna.
Karen Johnson
A funeral service for Karen Johnson, 53, of Watford City, will be 11:00 a.m., CDT, Friday, May 29, 2015 at First Lutheran Church in Watford City with Pastor Rob Favorite officiating.
Visitation for Karen will be 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., CDT, Thursday, May 28 at the church with a prayer service being held at 7:00 p.m.
Karen died on Sunday, May 24 at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck, ND after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Karen Jan Johnson was born on January 8, 1962 in Watford City, ND to Omar and Jean (Mogen) Wold. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church. At an early age, it was very apparent that Karen had a special way with people. She enjoyed helping her parents at the livestock ring and delighted in getting to know all the families in McKenzie County. Karen graduated from Watford City High School in 1980 where she was active in band and met the love of her life, David Johnson. The high school sweethearts attended Valley City State College until their wedding on June 13, 1981. The couple then moved to Fargo where they attended North Dakota State University. In 1983, they moved to Bremerton, WA and Karen continued her education and graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. After the birth of their first child, Chelsea, the couple returned to Watford City in 1987. Karen and David became actively involved in the community and raised their two children, Chelsea and Maxwell. David’s work took the family to Carrington, ND from 2003 until 2006, after which they returned to their beloved hometown of Watford City.
Continuing her love of connecting with people and giving back, Karen participated in several service organizations including serving as chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Watford City Golf Board, and McKenzie Bay Marine Club Board. Karen spent the majority of her professional career at First International Bank & Trust. In 1990, she began as an Administrative Assistant, and advanced to be an Insurance Agent, Loan Officer, and finished her career as a Bank Secrecy Officer. Karen enjoyed working with the customers and was very astute at understanding people and their needs. She retired from the bank in 2014.
In 1994, Karen and David purchased a cabin at McKenzie Bay on Lake Sakakawea. Karen loved going to the lake to spend quality time with family and friends. Every possible weekend from March to October was spent cruising on the boat, relaxing on the beach, gathering with friends, mowing the lawn, working on puzzles, or watching movies on rainy days. Karen was always the best fisherman in the boat, consistently catching the biggest and the most fish. In 2013, Arizona sunshine beckoned so David and Karen purchased a home in Scottsdale, AZ. Karen enjoyed floating in the pool, hosting friends, and taking trips to Old Town.
Karen was a woman of quiet strength, subtle wit, strong will, and a welcoming heart. Karen taught her children the importance of family, graciousness, and enjoying every moment. She was happiest when Chelsea, Max, and their spouses were by her side. Karen made dear friends everywhere she went. But above all, she was a family oriented woman and fiercely loved all of those close to her.
Karen is survived by her husband, David Johnson; two children, Chelsea (Monty) Bulzomi of Denver, CO, and Maxwell (Allison) Johnson of Minot, ND; mother, Jean Wold of Watford City, ND; brothers, Brian (Darci) Wold of Aurora CO, Bruce (Gail) Wold of Lake Park, MN, Jay (Roza) Wold of Minot, ND, Dan (Cheryl) Wold of Aberdeen, SD; father-in-law, Cecil (Terri) Johnson of Wenatchee, WA; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Karen was preceded in death by her father, Omar Wold; mother-in-law, Ellen Johnson; as well as maternal and paternal grandparents.
Martha Jahner
A Funeral Mass for Martha Jahner, 97, of Dickinson, will be 12:00 noon, Saturday, February 1, 2014 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dickinson with Msgr. Patrick Schumacher celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Pius Cemetery in Schefield.
Visitation for Martha will be 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 31st at Stevenson Funeral Home with a Rosary and Vigil service being held at 7:00 p.m.
Martha passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at St. Luke’s Home in Dickinson.
Martha was born on January 9, 1917 in Stark County, the daughter of Joseph and Regina (Roller) Binstock. She attended school at St. Pius School in Schefield. On June 10, 1936, Martha was united in marriage to Kasper Jahner at St. Pius Catholic Church, Schefield. The couple farmed for 32 years and they were blessed with eight children. In 1968, Martha and Kasper moved to Regent, later moving to their Oak Manor home in Dickinson in 1997. Martha loved to raise a garden and flowers. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, playing cards and she especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Martha spent time at St. Ben’s, Evergreen and most recently, St. Luke’s Home in Dickinson.
She was a member of St. Henry’s Guild of Regent, St. Pius Verein of Schefield and St. Ann’s of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
Martha is survived by her sons, Tony (Donna) and Tom (Shag) of Dickinson; daughters, Vangie (Wayne) Link of Bismarck, Isabell Kudrna of Billings, MT, and Marcella (Ed) Kautzman of Dickinson, Lorraine (Lyle) Dutton of Denver, CO, Kathleen Fletcher of Centennial, CO, Bernice (Mike) Cherney of Hazen; 31 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Albina; brother-in-law, Martin Decker; sister-in-law, Ethel Binstock.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kasper; son, Joseph; son-in-law, Leroy Kudrna; two grandchildren; parents, Joseph and Regina Binstock; four sisters and four brothers.
Ella Lousie Wood
Funeral Services for Ella Louise Wood, 77, of Glendive, formerly of Baker, will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 26, 2015 at the American Lutheran Church in Baker with Pastors Bruce & Reba Kolasch officiating. Burial will be in the Community Union Cemetery in Plevna, MT.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 25th from 3 – 8 p.m. with a Vigil service being held at 7:00 p.m. at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker, MT. Visitation will continue on Thursday one hour prior to the service.
Ella passed away March 19, 2015 at her home in Glendive, MT, surrounded by her family.
Ella was born on January 28, 1938, the daughter of Albert and Louise (Bechtold) Hepperle in Plevna, Montana.
She attended school and graduated from the Plevna High School in 1955.
She continued her education at Glendive Community College and later Montana State University Billings where she completed her nursing degree.
Ella was married to Donald E. Wood on January 20, 1957 in Plevna.
To this union five children were born, Renee, Vicki, Donnie, Jeff and Bobby.
Together Ella and Don raised their family with different stops in Germany, Washington and lastly, Montana.
Ella spent her life taking care of families through her nursing carrier.
Most of her time was spent at Fallon Medical Complex or Glendive Medical Center.
Due to failing health she retired and made Glendive her home.
She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ella was known for her good cooking, especially her dumplings and apple pies.
She loved to host the holiday dinners with all the kids and their families.
Ella and Don also enjoyed playing cards as long as it was pinochle.
Survivors include, her husband, Donald E. Wood Sr., Glendive; two daughters, Renee (Kenny) Mueller, Cripple Creek, CO and Vicki (Dave) Lane, Forsyth, MT; three sons, Donnie (Brenda) Wood, Baker, MT; Jeff (Edie) Wood, Lake Havan, AZ and Bobby (Karen Beyers) Wood, Baker, MT; two sister-in-laws, Gertrude (Trudy) Hepperle, Morgan Hill, CA and Darlene Hepperle, Baker, MT; 18 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert and Ted Hepperle.
