Ruth Blair

Ruth Marie Marty Blair passed onward to a better place on April 2, 2016 at the age of 95 years and 7 months.

She had been living in the Dahl Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home for the past two years.

She was born on August 18, 1920, to William and Ruth Lucille Phipps Marty in Harding County South Dakota.

Ruth Marie attended grade school in a country school and high school in Spearfish, SD, where she lived with her Aunt Lucy Phipps George during the school year.

She married George Dale Blair in 1939 and they then purchased the Don Pyle ranch on North Spring Creek West of Ekalaka.

They raised cattle and gradually increased the size of the ranch over the years.

Their children are Grace Blair, Thomas Blair (Margaret) and Doris Blair Matz (Ray).

In 1979, Tom took over the management of the ranch and Ruth Marie and George retired to Belle Fourche, SD, where they enjoyed their friends and relatives and bowling and playing cards. George passed away in 1998.

She enjoyed her daily walks at the Senior Center in Belle Fourche and meeting friends for coffee.

She was totally devoted to her husband and children throughout her life.

She moved to Assisted Living in Belle Fourche in 2011 and then to the Nursing Home in Ekalaka in 2013.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George, and siblings Doris Marty (at age 14), John Marty (Helen) and William Marty Jr.(Maxine) and granddaughter, Jody Matz. She is survived by daughter, Dr. Grace Blair, son, Tom Blair (Margaret) and grandchildren Deann Miller and Barry Blair, daughter, Doris Matz (Ray) and grandson Jay Matz.

She has 5 great grandchildren as well.

Sisters-in-law Helen Marty and Maxine Marty are living in Spearfish and Belle Fourche, SD, respectively.

Her cremains will be placed beside her husband on the family ranch.

A memorial service will be planned for late spring.

Memorial donations may be made to the Dahl Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home in her name.

Ronald Fuchs

Services for Ronald W. Fuchs, 63, of Dickinson will be 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2016 at Stevenson Funeral Home. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Ron passed away Friday, April 15, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society Care Center, Mott, ND. He fought cancer with strength and courage for several years.

Ron was born on September 30, 1952 in Dickinson, ND, the son of the late Walter and Leone (Koenig) Fuchs.

Ron attended Dickinson High School, graduating in 1970. He then attended Wahpeton School of Science. Ron was employed by Cloverdale in Dickinson in the 1970s. He worked as a seismographer for several years and then was a heavy equipment operator for Northern Improvement. Ron was a strong man who fought his illness with determination beyond what was expected.

Ron enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends. He enjoyed good food and was a good cook. He loved dogs, especially Chihuahuas. Ron had a Chihuahua named Marty who was a therapy dog at the nursing home where Ron spent his final days. This puppy provided Ron and the residents with much joy and entertainment.

Ron is survived by four siblings: Tim Fuchs and wife Cathe of Grafton, WI, Peggy Piekos and husband Martin of Londonderry, NH, Clark Fuchs and wife Karen Lewis of Bismarck, ND, Curt Fuchs and wife Joanna of Dickinson, ND, and Joan Messer, friend, of Dickinson, ND.

Gloria Kukla

Rosary & Vigil Service: Thursday: Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, ND

Funeral services for Gloria Kukla, 71, of Dickinson formerly of Killdeer, will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 6, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Killdeer with Father Casimir Paluck celebrating. Burial will follow in the Killdeer Cemetery, Killdeer.

Visitation for Gloria will be Thursday, May 5th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with a Rosary & Vigil service being held at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Gloria passed away Monday May 2, 2016 at CHI St. Alexius in Bismarck.

Gloria Ann Braun was born August 8, 1944, the only daughter to Louis and Katherine (Schwindt) Braun on the family farm near Killdeer, where she grew up with eight brothers. Gloria graduated from Killdeer High School in 1962. Following graduation, she moved to Dickinson where she worked at First National Bank. She married Dennis Hartman in August 1964. To this union daughter Janine was born in 1965. Gloria began her career at the Dunn County Court House as Register of Deeds in Manning and continued working there until 1986. She married Clarence Kukla on August 19, 1970. To this union son Dale was born. She finished her career at Dickinson Title and retired in Dickinson where he currently lived. Gloria enjoyed feeding the bunnies and squirrels around her house, along with gardening, crossword puzzles and celebrity cryptograms.

Gloria is survived by her daughter, Janine (Matthew) Schmidt of Gering, NE; son, Dale Kukla of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Jessica Stauffer, Katherine Stauffer, Landen Hall, Griffin Kukla, and Garrin Kukla; brothers, Leo (Maxine) Braun of Dickinson, Ray (JoAnn) Braun of Redmond, OR, Louie (Jean) Braun of Dickinson, Jerry (Maggie) Braun of Reno, NV, Clarence (Joan) Braun of Mandan, Dan (Sharon) Braun of Mandan, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Katherine, and brothers, Frank and Jim Braun.

Jennie Klasna

Graveside Service: Saturday: Beaverlodge Cemetery, Ekalaka, MT

A beautiful voice drifted silently away recently. Jennie (Senrud) Hutton Klasna passed away and her silence leaves us heartbroken. Her family, friends and the fans of her writing will forever miss her.

Jennie May (Senrud) Hutton Klasna, age 86, of Ekalaka, Montana passed away peacefully on Monday, April 25, 2016 in Ekalaka with all of her children at her side.

Jennie had been a writer most of her life. Her writing captured the essence of farm life on the Great Plains. Her prose would wash over us as she described the beauty of a prairie rainstorm or an autumn sunset. Her writing was always optimistic and full of hope and love. She often said that her life “…was never easy but always fulfilling”.

Many people who read her “Dear friends”, “Letters from the Plains” or “The Corner” articles would read of a woman struggling against the loneliness of farm life. She eased her loneliness and found her friends by writing letters, stories and poems in local newspapers. Her articles and poetry appeared in national publications, regional and local newspapers, on PBS and Mid‐Rivers television, CBS Regional Radio with Jim Thompson and on social media world‐wide. She has won national and regional awards for her work and she has written several books. Her books have been found in Russia, Ireland and England and she has received thousands of fan letters as a result.

Jennie was born on May 25, 1929, daughter of Thorvald and Juanita (Butler) Senrud in the Ekalaka Chalk Buttes area. She attended country schools, graduating from Carter County High School in 1947. December 27, 1947, Jennie married Joseph (Dude) Hutton. They were married 51 years. To this union eleven children were born. Jennie taught school throughout the area. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. She instilled strong ethics and morals to her extended family. On February 14, 2000, Jennie lost her husband Joe.

She was widowed for eight years. In 2009, she met and married Kenneth Klasna. They were married for six years. They enjoyed traveling and dancing throughout Montana and North Dakota. Sadly Kenny passed away in May 2014. Jennie spent the remainder of her years in Ekalaka with family and friends.

She is survived by her sisters; Shirley (James) Hedrick, Thelma Senrud‐Lukkes of Absarokee, MT and Norma Lawrence of LaCrosse, WI, daughter Barb (Dick) Elmore of Newell, SD, daughter Beverly (Slim) Willson of Tioga, ND, daughter Dixie (Arnie) Erickson of Gillette, WY, son Joe Hutton of Sidney, MT, daughter Sherry (Randy) Stambaugh of Sidney, MT, son Michael (Kimberley) Hutton of Beach, ND, daughter Debra (Roger) Kortum of Ekalaka, MT. Jennie is survived by numerous grandchildren, including great & great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Jennie was preceded in death by her parents: Thorvald and Juanita Senrud, her husbands: Joseph (Dude) Hutton of 51 years and Kenneth Klasna of six years; children: James, William, Kathy and Douglas Hutton. Sisters Elanie Miller and Gladys Senrud; brothers John and Robert Senrud.

At Jennie’s request, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held on June 18th in Ekalaka. Prayer services will be held at Beaver Lodge Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. Reception and wake will follow.

Lorris Wetzel

Family Receiving Friends: Sunday: Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, ND

Celebration of Life for Lorris Wetzel, 58, of Dickinson will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 9, 2016 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson with Pastor William Bedsole officiating. Burial will take place at Glen Ullin Cemetery, Glen Ullin, ND.

Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, May 8, 2016 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Lorris passed away, Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at her home in Dickinson.

Lorris Lee Roth was born April 20, 1958 in Mandan, ND, the daughter of Richard and Kathleen (Kottre) Roth. She grew up and attended school in Glen Ullin and graduated from the Glen Ullin High School in 1977. She was married to Gillis Wetzel on July 2, 1977. To this union two children were born: LaShawn and Allen.

She began her life career in the caregiving industry and worked at Marion Manor from 1978-1989. She later worked at St. Luke’s Home and Stark County Social Services. Lorris loved her jobs associated with caregiving to the elderly. She enjoyed cooking, working in the yard and especially loved time spent with the grandchildren. She was always grateful to her colleagues at Stark County and thankful for their generosity and thoughtfulness.

Lorris was an active member of The River Church in Dickinson and loved worshipping her Lord and Saviour.

She is survived by her parents, Richard and Kathleen Roth, both of Glen Ullin; husband, Gillis of Dickinson; daughter LaShawn (William) Bedsole of Dickinson; son, Allen (Emily) Wetzel of Dickinson; grandchildren, Logan, Liam, Crewz and Courtney; brothers, Cordell Roth of Glen Ullin; and sisters, Linette (Jesse) Wilson of Belfield and Lanelle (Jacob) Dalbol of West Fargo.

Lorris was preceded in death by her brother, Courtney.
