Carl Jose
Carl Jose, 94, a resident of the Baptist Home, died July 30, 2003 in a local hospital.
Services will be held at 10 AM Monday at the Baptist Home Chapel, Bismarck, with the Rev. Clyde Leimberer officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will be from 1-9 PM Sunday at Boelter-Eastgate Funeral Service, 200 W. Turnpike Ave., and one hour prior to the service at the Baptist Home.
Carl was born March 19, 1909 in Antelope, ND the son of Henry and Christina(Heberle) Jose. He was raised in the Hebron area in his younger years. Carl lived in various locations in North Dakota and Montana, where he worked for the railroad, in the mining industry, and also farming and ranching. He married Martha Ost February 29, 1932 in Beulah, ND. After their marriage, they lived in Zap, ND prior to moving to Bismarck in 1949. He was later employed with the City of Bismarck, where he retired with over 20 years of service. Carl enjoyed volunteering at the Baptist Home over the years.
Carl is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Harold and Merle Jose, Atlanta, GA, Calvin Jose, Bismarck, ND, Ralph and Darlene Jose, Fargo, ND, and Dick and Bernie Jose, Bismarck, ND; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Lester Davis, Springtown, TX; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and one sister, Clare Bieber, Beulah, ND.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; two brothers, Rudolph and Ben; one sister, Louise; and one daughter-in-law, Lorraine Jose.
Gary Bean
Gary L. Bean, 61, Bismarck, ND, died July 26th 2003 in a Silverton, OR hospital from injuries received in a motorcycle accident in Silverton.
Services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, August 9th, at Boelter-Eastgate Funeral Service, 200 W. Turnpike Ave, in Bismarck, ND.
Gary is survived by his loving wife Sandi Bean of Silverton, OR, loving son and friend Damian Bean of Bismarck, ND and granddaughter Olivia Patterson of Bismarck.
Gary was born July 25th 1942 to Van and Delores Bean in Oregon. Gary had many passions in his life, he loved to ride his horses and tend to the land they were kept on. Three years ago he purchased his first Harley and he loved to ride, on many occasions taking the trip from Bismarck to Oregon. The thing he was most passionate about was his work. Gary was a licensed land surveyor in North Dakota and the surrounding states. He was deeply respected by his peers. Gary had a passion for accuracy and followed through on every last detail. He was involved in surveying for all of Basin Electric Power Cooperatives? transmission system and power stations in North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Wyoming. He was actively surveying on these facilities since 1974 and an employee of Basin Electric since 1977.
He was well respected and loved in this community and will be greatly missed. I love you dad.
In lieu of flowers, Damian requests memorials be made to ABATE of North Dakota for the education of motorcycle riders. Something he and I strongly believed in.
Eugene Fuher
Eugene Joseph Fuher, 66, 2026 N Kavaney Dr., Bismarck, died August 4, 2003 at a Bismarck hospital surrounded by his loving family and friends. Services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Art Scanson officiating. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service where a prayer service will be held at 7:00. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Eugene was born September 12, 1936 in Merricourt, ND, the son of Joseph and Mercia (King) Fuher. He was raised and educated in the Merricourt area. He graduated from Edgeley High School in 1954 and Ellendale State Normal and Industrial College in 1959. He enlisted in the North Dakota National Guard in 1958. He was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in 1961. He was the Commander of the 116th Public Affairs Detachment. In 1979, he retired as Major in Bismarck after 22 years of service.
Eugene married Mavis Myers on December 23, 1961 in Bismarck. After their marriage they lived in Hazen, ND where he taught school until 1971. He was employed by North Dakota Disaster Emergency Services and then Basin Electric Power Cooperative, where he retired in1995.
During his retirement Gene and Mavis spent winters in Gold Canyon, AZ where he was an avid golfer and attained his lifelong dream of getting a hole-in-one. He also enjoyed traveling with Mavis, other family members and special friends. In addition, he loved the times he spent with his grandchildren. He was a life member of the Bismarck-Mandan Elks Club, the Bismarck-Mandan Exchange Club, McCabe United Methodist Church, and the Basin Electric Power Cooperative Retirees Assn. He was also an affiliate member of the Gold Canyon United Methodist Church.
Gene is survived by his wife, Mavis; one daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Jay Link of Fergus Falls, MN; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Tanya Fuher of Bismarck; three grandchildren, Kayla, Joseph ?Joey?, and Hannah Fuher; one brother and sister-in-law, Arden and Sharon Fuher of Edgeley, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Christine Hill
Christine Bossert Hill, 82, died Tuesday, September 16, 2003 in a local hospital. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Wes Aardahl officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Thursday, at Eastgate Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Christine was born February 16, 1921 in Wing, ND to Gottfried and Christina (Barreth) Bossert. She married Norval A. Hill on October 6, 1946 and they lived on Patterson ranches in Wing, Pettibone, and Bismarck, North Dakota while they raised their family of 8 children. Norval died in 1984.
Christine retired in 1989 after working 20 years as a Nurses Aide and OT Aide at the Baptist Home in Bismarck. Since retiring, she put in many hours at the Bismarck Senior Center as a RSVP volunteer, quilting and other volunteer activities at Faith Lutheran Church. She also spent a great deal of time with her family and close friends enjoying gardening, crafting, and watching her grandchildren grow.
Christine is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Carol) Solberg of Bismarck and Mrs. Steve (Connie) Green of Minneapolis; six sons, Jim (Sandee), Dennis, Wesley, Bruce (Peggy), Larry, and Steve (Virginia) Hill all of Bismarck; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Alex (Martha) Schmidt of Sacramento, CA; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers and four sisters.
Christine's quick wit, her generosity, caring and love will be missed by all. May she rest in peace.
The family prefers memorials to Faith Lutheran Church.
Arthur Jorgensen
Arthur P. Jorgensen, 86, Bismarck, died September 17, 2003, in a local care center. Services will be held at 12 Noon Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan with military graveside by the VFW Post 1326.
Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service where a prayer service will be held at 7:00. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Art was born May 10, 1917 near Epping, ND, the son of Nels and Agnes Jorgensen who homesteaded in the area after emigrating from Denmark. He was raised and attended schools there, prior to going west, where he worked as a cowboy, welder, and ship builder. Art enlisted in the U. S. Army in March of 1943 and served in the European Theatre. As a cannoneer he was engaged in the Naples-Foggia and Rome-Arno Battles and in the Southern France and Central Europe Campaigns. He received numerous decorations and citations including four bronze stars, the bronze arrowhead, the WW II Victory Medal and the Purple Heart. A true patriot, Art was very proud of his military service and of his country.
Art married Norma Marie Holen on June 17, 1949 in Ray, ND. He worked for the U.S, Department of Agriculture and lived in Williston, Minot and moved to Bismarck with his family in 1973, where they have since resided.
Art loved photography, fishing, and hunting. He was also a rock hound and polished countless stones. He was a lifelong learner who joined Toastmasters and enjoyed traveling throughout the world with Norma.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Sons of Norway, the VFW, the American Legion, and the DAV. Art was very proud of his farming and Scandinavian heritage, and especially cherished time with his family.
He is survived by his daughters, Arlene and her husband Rev. Jay Hillestad of Eden Prairie, MN and Linda and her husband Rev. Maury Millican of Bismarck; his grandson James Peter Millican; his granddaughters, Ann Marie and Holly Millican; three brothers, Ivan of Vancouver, WA, Harold of Portland, OR, and Laurence of Williston, ND.
He was preceded in death by his wife Norma, on August 18, 2000, his brother Carl Henry, and his sisters Viola Hartling and Olga Daniels.
Memorials may be given to the North Dakota State Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
Elsie McLean
Elsie N. McLean, 86, Bismarck, died September 25, 2003 in a local hospital.
Services will be held at 10 AM Monday at 103 Shady Acres, Mandan, ND (head west on the street in front of Bonanza, take right on Shady Acres and proceed past two houses, it is a large building on the west side of the street), with ministers Shelley Vigesaa, Joyce Naber, Dale Spencer, and Ken Pinney officiating. Burial will be in the Menoken Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2-8 PM Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.
Elsie Nicoline (House) McLean was born November 20, 1916 in Blackwater Township west of Garrison, ND, the daughter of Lewis Cyrus and Nicoline (Solberg) House. She attended country schools in rural Blackwater Township. When Elsie was growing up her family had the Emmet, ND Post Office in their home, where their mother was the Postmaster. Elsie graduated from Garrison High School in 1932 and moved to Bismarck with her mother. She graduated from Capital Commercial College and worked for an attorney and at the Bismarck Hospital. Elsie married H. Lloyd McLean on June 27, 1936 and they lived on a farm at rural Menoken until 1982. Elsie served as bookkeeper for the McLean Well Drilling Company, owned and operated by her husband Lloyd and brother-in-law, Donald McLean until the late 1960's. Elsie worked as a secretary briefly for an Insurance Company in 1963, and worked as a secretary for the Public Service Commission from 1963 until 1983, when she retired. Elsie bought a home and moved it to a daughter and son-in-law's farm (Barb and Gordie) at rural McKenzie. She lived there until September of 1997, when she moved her home back to Menoken to live on the farm with daughter and son-in-law, Katie and Jerry. Elsie moved to the Terrace in Bismarck on July 30, 2003. Lloyd and Elsie had twelve children and she loved to be surrounded by her family and friends and adored her grandchildren.
Elsie is survived by twelve children and eight sons and daughters-in-law, Laurel (McLean) Larsen, Grand Island, NE, Clyde McLean, Apache Junction, AZ, Dennis and Judy McLean, Amarillo, TX, Kathleen and Jerry Schmitcke, Menoken, ND, Judith (McLean) Martzolf, Maricopa, AZ, Barbara and Gordon Knutson, McKenzie, ND, Jon and Eileen McLean, Longmont, CO, Myra and Doug Vik, Apache Junction, AZ, Carol and Billy Fielhaber, Minot, ND, Robb and Angela McLean, Aurora, NE, Lyndon and Carol McLean, McKenzie, ND, and Loren McLean, Bismarck, ND; twenty grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; nephews, Bradley McLean, Menoken, ND, Sandy McLean, Bismarck, ND, and the late, Lyle McLean, children of her heart; one brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Ruth House, Scottsdale, AZ; two sisters-in-law, Marie House, Albuquerque, NM and Catherine (McLean) Swanson, Yakima, WA; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Lloyd McLean; her mother and father, Nicoline (Solberg) and Lewis House; one brother, Elon House; two sisters, Carol Haas and Marjorie Knispel; and one son-in-law, Will Larsen.
LaVonne Schumaker
LaVonne Sharon D'Ora Schumaker, 72, died September 29, 2003 in a local hospital.
Services will be held at 11 AM Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas R. Marcis officiating. Burial will be in the Driscoll Township Cemetery, Driscoll, at 1:45 PM Friday.
Visitation will be 12 Noon to 9 PM Thursday at Boelter-Eastgate Funeral Service, 200 W. Turnpike Ave., Bismarck, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
LaVonne Bruschwein was born September 19, 1931 in Bismarck, the daughter of August and Sarah (Wiens) Bruschwein. She was raised and educated in Driscoll, where she graduated from high school. She attended NDAC College (NDSU) in Fargo, graduating in 1952. LaVonne married Reuben Schumaker on June 22, 1952 in Driscoll. They lived on a farm near Driscoll and she taught school for 29 years collectively in Taylor, Tappen, and Driscoll, retiring in the spring of 2001. LaVonne enjoyed playing the organ at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Driscoll, crocheting, sewing, ceramics, and visiting with family and friends. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Bismarck, Driscoll Homemakers Club, and Kappa Delta Chapter.
LaVonne is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Noell & Mike Just, Hazen, ND, Karen and Rodney Armstrong, Rolette, ND, Colleen and Mark Rodacker, Dickinson, ND, and Tami and Mark Naaden, Braddock, ND; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Mark and Laurie (Woods) Schumaker, Minot, ND, Clayton and Julie (Andersen) Schumaker, Bruce and Lynette (Rodacker) Schumaker, and Doug Schumaker, all of Bismarck, ND; 19 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two sisters, Hildreth Grimes, Great Falls, MT and Dolores Rosin, Driscoll, ND; and one brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Natalie Bruschwein, Wapheton, ND.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben; her parents, August and Sarah Bruschwein; her sister, Hazel Trautman; one niece, Deanna Grimes; and one great niece, Becky Thompson.
Marlys Dotseth
Marlys Dotseth, 78, Bismarck died October 2, 2003 in a local hospital. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Laurie Natwick officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Marlys was born January 25, 1925 in Canby, Minnesota, the daughter of Milo and Nellie (Skjonsby) Foss. She was raised and educated in Canby and Granite Falls, graduating from Granite Falls High School in 1943. Marlys and Warren Dotseth were married May 28, 1944 in Granite Falls. They resided in Minneapolis, Billings, and Williston before moving to Bismarck in 1965.
Marlys was an active member of P.E.O. Chapter AJ and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Marlys is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Terry Kristensen of Bismarck; her son Steven Dotseth of Bismarck; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Muriel Schoen of Bella Vista, AK and Shirley and Dominick Messano of Marco Island, FL; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Roger and Evelyn Foss of Everglades City, FL and Keith and Jacqueline Foss of North Richland Hills, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Warren, and her son Mark.
