Rev. Alfred Bibelheimer
The Reverend Alfred W. Bibelheimer, 97, died on September 16, 2003 in Drake, North Dakota. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, at Century Baptist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Gordon Stork and Rev. Steve Wistoff officiating. Burial will be in the Drake Cemetery, Drake, ND.
Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 East Divide Avenue, Bismarck and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Alfred was born on July 11, 1906 in Underwood, ND to Henry F. and Mathilda (Klinger) Bibelheimer. He grew up on a farm 5 miles west of Braddock, ND. He completed his preparation for the ministry at the German Department of Eastman/Colgate Rochester Seminary in Rochester, NY in 1933. He married Linda Tiede on April 15, 1934 in Southey, Sask, Canada, and three children were born to this union: Henry, Dorothy, and John.
He pastored churches in Southey, Sask, Rosenfeld, ND, Anamoose, ND, Drake, ND, Turtle Lake, ND, Ashley, ND, Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Bottineau, ND. He served as chaplain of the Baptist Home in Bismarck, ND. He held various positions of leadership in both the American Baptist and North American Baptist denominations.
He was instrumental in the founding and development of Camp Bentley, an American Baptist summer camp, just west of Drake, ND (1947-1951).
He is survived by his children, Henry of Drake, Dorothy McGrath of Valencia, CA, and John of Drake and their spouses; ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family requests that any memorials be given to the Camp Bentley, Drake, ND.
Clois Hetletved
Clois L. Hetletved, 80, Robinson, ND died September 22, 2003 at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Robinson, with the Rev. Jo Pfennig officiating. Burial will be in the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, Robinson.
Visitation will be from 12 noon to 9:00 PM Thursday at Eastgate Memorial Chapel, Steele, where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Clois was born August 25, 1923 in Robinson, ND, the son of Gus and Violet(Blake)Hetletved, the second child of a family of three sons and four daughters. He was raised and attended school in rural Robinson. On June 8, 1944 he married Judith Johnson in Steele, ND. In November of that year, Clois was inducted into the U.S. Army. He served in the South Pacific on Leyte and Mindanao Islands. After peace was declared he transferred to Army/Air Corps Supply. He was discharged in August 1946. In the spring of 1947 they bought the Friestad farm northeast of Tuttle and began a lifetime of farming. They lived there until 1956 when they bought a farm in Merkel Township and lived there until they retired.
Clois served as a County Commissioner for two terms and was on the Social Service Board. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Robinson, the American Legion, V.F.W. and Eagles Club. Clois was a charter member of the Robinson Lions Club. He enjoyed fishing and camping.
Clois is survived by his wife, Judith of Robinson; his daughters, Charlene and her husband, John Falk of Arizona and Geniel and her husband, Dale Schell, Jr. of Washburn; his son, Clois, Jr. and his wife, Helen (Sathre) of Grand Forks; seven grandchildren, Jason Falk, Lisa (Jerry) Baxter, Dustin (Bethany) Hetletved, Lee Hetletved, Samantha, Zachary, and Mandy Schell; four great-grandchildren, Joshua Baxter, Chandler Smith, Morgan and Jane Hetletved; his brothers, Lyle Hetletved of Robinson and Dale (Lucille) Hetletved of Bismarck; his sisters, Adelaide (Edwin) Johnson of Tuttle, Luella Wick Semmons of Woodworth, Vivian Hirchert of Titusville, FL, and Arletta (Loren) Hanson of Minot.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Violet Hetletved.
Mabel Klein
Mabel Klein, 85, Grayson, KY, formerly of Baldwin, gently went to her heavenly home Wednesday, September 24, 2003. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas R. Marcis, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 2-5 PM Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mabel was born April 15, 1918 in Wilton, ND, the daughter of John and Rose Baumiller. She was raised and educated in the Wilton area. On September 16, 1936 she married Carl Klein, Sr. in Bismarck. They lived in the Wilton/Baldwin area until 1997. Following her husband's death, Mabel relocated to Grayson, Kentucky to live with her daughter. Mabel suffered from a crippling farming accident in 1969, which limited her mobility, but never her heart. Mabel is now free and with her beloved husband, Carl, Sr.
She loved her family, her friends and even the hard times on the farm. She enjoyed word search puzzle books, TV games shows, and most of all reading the Bible and praying to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Mabel is survived by her daughter, Donna Keller of Grayson, KY; four sons, Carl, Jr., Donald, and Jerome all of Bismarck, and Theodore Klein of Tacoma, WA; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four sisters Hilda, Aldena, Rose and Shirley; one brother, Donald.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl, Sr., son-in-law, George Keller, great-granddaughter, Maddison Rayne McGlone, three sisters Betty, Ester, and Viola, and three brothers, Pete, Lawrence, and Clarence.
James Goodsell
James W. Goodsell, 79, Bismarck, died August 1, 2003, in Devils Lake, North Dakota, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2:00 PM at Church of St. Anne. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 – 9:00 PM and Tuesday from 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service where a Vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
James was born on November 7, 1923, in Westhope, North Dakota, the son of James and Julia Grace (Kennedy) Goodsell. He was raised and educated in the Westhope area. On September 24, 1946, he married Dineva Cote at Willow City, North Dakota.
After their marriage, they lived in several locations in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana where James worked in highway construction. In 1972, they moved to Miles City, Montana, where James retired in 1986 and in 1988, they moved to Bismarck.
During his retirement years, he enjoyed working on small engines and helping friends and neighbors with car and engine problems. James loved visiting with and being around people; no matter where he was he could make a friend.
He is survived by seven daughters and six sons-in-law, Joneil and Verdeen Backstrom of Minnewaukan, North Dakota, Corrine and Sanferd Mees of Menoken, Debra Goodsell of Bismarck, Sheila and Robert Johnson of Bismarck, Jacqueline and Mike Blum of Miles City, Montana, Roxanne and Hal Hains of Miles City, Montana, and Valorie and Clay Myhre of Kingston, Washington; one son and daughter-in-law, Lester and Song Goodsell of Kingston, Washington; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Earl and Franklin; and four sisters, Ruth, Alta Mae, Alice, and Ardis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dineva; two brothers, Cecil and George; and one sister, Doris.
Margaret Sell
Margaret Anne Bates Sell, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, died August 3, 2003.
A family graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck, with the Deacon Jim Ressler officiating.
Margaret was born May 17, 1909, in Grand Forks, ND. Her parents, Ralph and Margaret Bates moved to Minneapolis, where Margaret lived for 16 years. Margaret moved with her parents to Bismarck in the early 1930’s.
On June 20, 1935, she married Spencer Sell of Bismarck. They had four daughters.
In 1953, she accepted a temporary position for the North Dakota Legislative Council. Later Margaret worked for the North Dakota State Highway Department as the executive secretary to the highway commissioner, and later for the chief engineer; a position she held until her retirement in 1974.
Margaret was an accomplished pianist, avid reader, bridge player, life long baseball fan, and talented seamstress, wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be dearly missed.
Margaret is survived by her four daughters and their spouses, Nancy (Dick) Schonberger and Judie (Robb) Shirley all of Seattle, WA and Mary (Jack) Kavaney and Susan Anderson, all of Bismarck; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Spencer Sell; and her parents.
The family prefers memorials to the Ronald McDonald House, Bismarck.
Hilde Rasmusson
Hilde M. Rasmusson, 85, Bismarck, died July 25, 2003 in a local care center. Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Robert Lynne officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Tuesday and 9:00 to 10:30 AM Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Hilde was born September 8, 1917 in Presho, SD to Anton and Anna Sather. She graduated from Presho High School and attended college in Rapid City, SD. In 1939, she worked for the Farm Security Administration, USDA, in Kennebec, SD and then transferred to the Regional Office in Lincoln, NE in 1940. Hilde and N. Paul Rasmusson were married in Valentine, NE on June 6, 1942.
While Paul served in the Eighth Air Force in England, Hilde lived in Presho. When Paul was discharged, he returned to work with the Farm Security Administration. At various times the family lived in Bowbells, Williston, and Devils Lake, ND before moving to Bismarck in 1966.
While in Devils Lake, Hilde was parish secretary of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. She was an active member of the St. Olaf Ladies Aid and Sunday School. When the Lake Region Lutheran Home was built, she was employed as secretary.
Hilde enjoyed visiting and working with the elderly. Soon after coming to Bismarck, she was a “gray lady” with the Bismarck Chapter of the Red Cross, visiting residents of nursing homes.
Soon after the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center was built, Hilde was a volunteer, charter member, and past president of the women’s auxiliary. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, member and past president of Trinity Lutheran Church Women, member and past president of the Bismarck Study Club and a member of P.E.O. Chapter N.
Hilde is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Pauline and Harry Poletes, Sioux Falls, SD; a son and daughter-in-law, George and Kim Rasmusson, Breezy Point, MN; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, J. Henry Sather, Macomb, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters, and two brothers.
Elizabeth Rippley
Elizabeth Rippley, 86, Bismarck, died August 3, 2003, at a Bismarck care center.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Driscoll with the Rev. Jo Pfennig officiating. Burial will be at the Sterling Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 12:00 – 9:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service and will continue Wednesday, one hour prior to the service at the church.
Elizabeth Fetzer was born on May 8, 1917, near Tuttle, North Dakota, the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Zwiegle) Fetzer. She grew up and attended school in Tuttle. On July 17, 1935, she married Norman Rippley in Steele, North Dakota. They made their home at various times at Tuttle, Sterling, Driscoll, and Olympia, Washington.
Following Mr. Rippley’s death in 1982, Elizabeth made her home in Sterling. In April 2002, she moved to Edgewood Vista and this past April, she entered Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center.
Elizabeth enjoyed church activities, quilting, playing cards, bingo, shopping, baking, and gardening. She was a grandma to everyone.
She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Eunice and Donald Weisenburger of Tuttle, and Nancy Rippley of Underwood; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Dennis and June of Missoula, Montana, Larry and Kyla of Olympia, Washington, Robert and his special friend, Loretta of Sterling, and Frank and Sally of Sterling; four sisters, Alvina Sackman of Bismarck, Caroline Fetzer of Hazen, Freda Meir of Carrington, and Martha Ochsner of Missoula, Montana; four brothers, William Stanke of Tuttle, Richard Fetzer of Steele, Leonard Fetzer of Fargo, and Harold Fetzer of Mandan; 18 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman; her parents; one son, Stanley; seven brothers; and two sisters.
Cyril "Blackie" Hennenfent
Cyril E. “Blackie” Hennenfent died July 25, 2003 in a Bismarck hospital.
A memorial service will be held 1 PM Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with Chaplain Dan Sweeney officiating. Burial of cremains will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan with military rites provided by the VFW Post #1326.
Cyril E. “Blackie” was born July 30, 1922 in Foxhome, Minnesota, to Nicholas and Adeline (Allex) Hennenfent. He attended grade school there, later moving to Watford City, ND, where he graduated from high school in 1942. He entered the United States Navy on February 25, 1943 serving almost three years during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He was honorably discharged as a Boatswain’s Mate Second Class in 1946. He married Dorothy E. Selid on April 13, 1946. He attended Minot State Teacher’s College where he earned a B.A. degree in 1950. He worked for the Corps of Engineers in Riverdale for 30 years, retiring in 1975.
Blackie was a long time member of the Riverdale Sportsman Club and a member of the Riverdale Golf Course. He was a lifetime member of the Elks and the American Legion where he held various positions as a Past Commander, Vice Commander, Historian, and Adjutant. He had a great love of family and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf.
Blackie is survived by his son Wade of Farmington, MN; his daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Mike Miller of Donnybrook, ND; his grandsons Corey and Shawn Miller of Donnybrook; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Quentin Hennenfent of Mesa, AZ and Doug and Arlene Hennenfent of WA; and one stepsister Lois White of Minot.
