Herb passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at Medcenter One in Bismarck.

Larry John Austin
Larry John Austin, 72, of Baker, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2003 at the Holy Rosary Health Center in Miles City following a battle with the West Nile virus. He was born July 4, 1931 in Belfield, ND, the son of John and Edith (Craig) Austin. He grew up and attended schools in the Marmarth area. Larry began work on the family ranch north of Marmarth as a young man. He loved ranching and helped out with the mail route, (the family had operated for many years), from Marmarth to Camp Crook. Larry married Carol Noftsker in Bowman on July 3, 1958. To their union four daughters were born: Wanda, Sandra, Pamela, and Nicole. They spent several years early on in their marriage ranching with Larry’s folks near Marmarth. They moved to Ronan, MT briefly before settling in Baker to raise their family. Larry began work in the oilfields and started ranching east of Baker also. He lived for the Western-style life of which included: horseback riding and attending Marmarth rodeos and local brandings. Often times he could be found reading a Western magazine, tuning into a Western classic movie on the television, or checking the forecasts on the Weather Channel. Larry also found great interest outside whether it be doing yard work or fencing. He also enjoyed family outings to Medicine Rocks and Medora. Larry truly loved his grandchildren. They were dear to him. His quiet spirit will be missed by his family and friends. Larry is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Cameron; and a nephew, Everett. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol; four daughters: Wanda Austin, Sandra (Brian) Weiler, Pamela (Scott) Haugen, and Nicole (Daniel) Rohr, all of Baker; a brother, Doug (Sandy) Austin of Rapid City, SD; a sister, Betty (Tom) Holman of Marmarth; and thirteen beloved grandchildren.
Frank J. Herauf
Christian Mass for Frank J. Herauf, 90, of Dickinson, will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2003 at the Queen Of Peace Catholic Church with Father David Morman officiating. Burial with Military Honors by the Dickinson Veterans Drill Teem will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Dickinson.
Visitation will be on Monday, December 22, 2003 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary & Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. in the Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the Queen of Peace Catholic Church
Frank passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Health Center.
Frank J. Herauf, a son of Jacob and Theresa (Heck) Herauf, was born on November 1, All Saint’s Day, 1913, in Dickinson. He graduated from St. Joseph’s School, Dickinson, and from Mechanical Trade School in California. Frank served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was called home from this assignment to become the guardian for his four nieces and nephews whose parents had been killed in a car accident.
Frank married Angeline Wolf on May 17, 1941 in Dickinson. They moved to a farm south of Belfield where they farmed until 1972, when they retired and moved to Dickinson. Frank served on the former Belfield School District No. 10 for 15 years as Board Member, Treasurer, and Clerk. He was a member of St. Bernard’s Parish Board when the rectory was built and served on the St. Bernard’s school board for 10 years. He was also Commander of the former St. Bernard’s Post Catholic War Veterans.
Always a farmer at heart, Frank continued to work the soil in his retirement, gardening and sharing his produce with his family. Frank lived independently, celebrating his 90th birthday in the home he had shared with his wife. Frank led a life of faith and devotion, sheltering his family with prayers. Quiet and uncomplaining, he awaited the day when he could rejoin his Angeline in eternity.
Survivors include one son, Blaine (Barb) Herauf, Dickinson and their four children, Brent, Brad, Becky and Brandi Herauf; two daughters, Cheryl (Darryl) Dobie, Broomfield, CO, their two daughters, Kendra and Kia Dobie; Patricia (George) Ehlis, Dickinson and their eight children, Beth (Ernie) Strube, Dave (Karla) Ehlis, Sharon (Chris) Kubick, Lisa (Gordon) Kessel, John (Kris) Ehlis, Frank Ehlis, Anne (Marc) Wolf, and Andrea (Don) Chang, 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pauline Leidholt, Miles City, MT.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Angeline, his parents, five brothers; John, Joseph, Leonard, Anthony and Edward and four sisters, Elizabeth Herauf, Monica Selbman, Anna McGee and Elizabeth Hardwick

Bertha M. Gallagher, 73, Richardton died Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the Richardton Memorial Health Center.
Bertha’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 30 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton with Father Boniface Muggli, OSB as the celebrant.
Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday at Ladbury Funeral Service and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday at the church with a rosary at 8 p.m.
Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

Lois Mauvee Emerson
A graveside service for Lois Mauvee Emerson, 86, of Baker, Mont. and formerly of Ekalaka, Mont. will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery at Baker, MT with the Rev. Father Thomas Tobin officiating.
Lois passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at the Mercy Southwest Hospital in Bakersfield, Calif.
In honoring Lois’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

Alice Higgins
Alice Margaret Higgins passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at the TLC Personal Care Home in Miles City, MT.
She was born January 21, 1914 at Ismay, the daughter of Hans and Katherine (Egge) Anderson.
Alice grew up and attended country school in Ismay.
When she was a little girl, her family lived at the Cass place.
Alice married Alba Higgins on September 15, 1933 in Baker.
They lived on the Wheeler place until they purchased the family farm.
To this union three children were born: Jessica, Ralph and Ethel.
For many years, Alice and Alba raised pigs and cattle, she spent some time working at the Six Mile as well as giving children rides home.
Through the years, Alice loved family and friends coming to visit, if someone passed by the house, they had to come in and have coffee and fried chicken.
She enjoyed supporting the local sports teams also.
Any school game that was taking place, you could be sure to see Alice there cheering them on—and if she couldn’t make it, she was right by the radio cheering!
She liked to travel, especially to Ralph & Inga’s to see the kid’s and all the different places they lived throughout the States.
Her family remembers that it was always fun to see the different colors of hair she would have.
Alice didn’t let her age slow her down, as she took her first motorcycle ride at the age of 80.
She was very involved throughout the years, belonging to the Royal Neighbors, Cowbells, and Eastern Star organizations.
She found great interest with these groups.
Other hobbies include crocheting, sewing, and playing whist, canasta & bingo.
Alice’s family will miss her deeply.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Alba; a son, Ralph in August; a daughter, Jessica; a brother, Hans Anderson; a great-granddaughter, Jasmine Winkley; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Anderson.
Alice is survived by a daughter, Ethel Winkley of Forsyth; daughter-in-law, Ingaborg Higgins of Plevna; two brothers: Clarence Anderson of Spokane, WA and Lloyde Anderson of Helena, MT; ten grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Prayer Service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 24, at 7:30 PM at the Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker.
Visitation hours will begin Sunday from 9AM until 7PM.
A Funeral Service will take place on Monday, Nov. 25, at 2 PM at the Ismay Community Church.
Burial will follow at the Ismay Cemetery.
Refreshments will be served following the graveside back at the church.
