Sally Krous

Coelestina (Sally) Krous, 82, Dickinson died Thursday, July 3, 2003 at her home. She was born June 24, 1921,at Schefield, ND, the daughter of Ignatz and Marie Eva Kilwine Reisenauer. She attended school at Schefield. Sally was married to John Krous, Jr. on September 30, 1943 at Schefield. They made their home briefly in Mott and New England before moving to Dickinson where their three children were born: Marie, Daryle and Thomas. Sally and John farmed east of Dickinson. Sally worked part-time at the Eagles, Hi Way Inn and Schnells Livestock and did sewing for many people. She will always be known for her sewing abilities and quilt making. She loved to be with people and instilled in her children “Do one good deed a day for someone and your life will be fruitful”. Sally will be remembered for her dancing, card playing, laughter and cooking. No one ever left her home hungry. She had a deep love for her church and life in general. Aunt Sally was a “Mom” to a lot of her nieces and nephews and they all hold her dear to their hearts. She truly was concerned about each one. Sally was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society, Christian Mothers, Eagles and Sunset Senior Center. Survivors include a daughter, Marie (Vince) Gabel, Bismarck; two sons: Daryle Krous, Fargo and Thomas (Bev) Krous, Mandan; a brother, Joe Reisenauer; Mott; a sister, Agnes Stockert, Dickinson; a half-brother, Robert Reisenauer, CA; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her husband, John, her parents and seven brothers, preceded her in death: Adolph, Frank, Alex, Dan, Anton, George and Jack.

Mass of Christian Burial for Douglas Grant Havens, 57, of Baker, Mont., is 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Baker with Father Thomas Tobin celebrating.

Burial will be in the St. John’s Cemetery in Baker, Mont.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 26, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary being said at 7 p.m. followed with a vigil service led by the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree at the Stevenson Funeral Home, Baker, Mont.

Doug passed away on Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at the Fallon Medical Complex in Baker.

Sydne K. Carlson

Memorial Service for Sydne Kay Carlson, 51 years old, of Coralville, Iowa, is Sunday, June 22, 2003 at 2:00 pm in the Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Burial will be in the Family lot of the Dunn Center Cemetery, Dunn Center, ND on Wednesday, June 25, 2003.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm continuing on Wednesday from 8:00 am to 10:00 am at the Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel and then one hour prior to service at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, Killdeer.

Sydne Kay Carlson, Coralville, Iowa died peacefully on June 20, 2003 after a yearlong battle with cancer. Her funeral will be at Saint John’s Lutheran Church, Killdeer, North Dakota at 2 pm, on Wednesday, June 25, 2003.

Sydne was born on July 17, 1951 to Grant and Mildred (Knutson) Carlson. She attended country school for 3 years than attended Killdeer Public School graduating in 1969. Sydne received her Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition from North Dakota State University in 1973. Upon graduation, she was accepted as a dietetic intern at the University of Iowa, thus, beginning her thirty-year career at the university. She completed her master’s degree in Preventive Medicine and Environmental Health in 1978. Sydne worked as a surgery, clinic, maternal, relief, diabetes, medicine, and consultant dietitian. She also was a nutrition instructor for Kirkwood Community College.

Sydne was instrumental in the development of the Diabetes Education program in 1982, and became a Certified Diabetes Educator in 1986. She helped thousands of patients manage their diabetes. She played a major role in securing health care benefits for Iowans to receive diabetic supplies and education.

Sydne authored several professional publications in the areas of diabetes and weight control and was a recognized nutrition expert in these fields. She taught thousands of health care professionals and was an active member of the American Diabetic Association, American Dietetic Association, Iowa Dietetic Association, and American Association of Diabetes Educators.

Sydne will forever be remembered as a kind, knowledgeable, and dedicated dietitian/friend who was completely committed to her patients, profession and family. She was a gentle soul who touched so many lives. Sydne’s family and friends will cherish all their loving memories of her and will forever miss her accepting, unconditional love.

Sydne was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and served as Lutheran Brotherhood Branch #8177 board secretary for many years. She enjoyed gardening, reading, music and was an avid University of Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Sydne is survived by her father, Grant Carlson, Killdeer, North Dakota, one sister, Gwen (Robert) Hoffman, Oakes, North Dakota, one brother, Kent (Jodi) Carlson, Killdeer, North Dakota, one niece, Nancy (Kevin) Gelinske, Oakes, North Dakota, three nephews, Chad Hoffman, Oakes, North Dakota, Kory and Klay Carlson, Killdeer, North Dakota and two great niece’s, Shelby and Peyten Gelinske, Oakes, North Dakota.

Her mother, Mildred, and grandparents, Guy and Miriam Carlson, and Bert and Martha Knutson preceded her in death.

Funeral services for Jimmie Bechhold, 66, of Glen Ullin are pending with the Spangelo-Stevenson Funeral Home of Glen Ullin.

Jimmie passed away on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at his home in Glen Ullin.

Yvonne Heidt

Funeral Mass for Yvonne Heidt, 86, of Dickinson, formerly of Belfield, will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 26, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial will be later this spring.

Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 25, from noon to 9 p.m. with a rosary and vigil service at 7 p.m. at Stevenson Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson.

Yvonne passed away Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Health Center, Dickinson.

Yvonne was born June 1, 1923, on the family’s homestead near Belfield, to Art and Olivia (Fugere) Fugere. Yvonne married Ralph A. Heidt on May 14, 1945. After living in Texas for a short time while Ralph served in the Army, they returned to Dickinson, where they raised seven children. Yvonne was longtime member of the St. Anne’s Auxiliary, Christian Mothers, and Catholic Daughters. She was very active in her church and faith. Yvonne and Ralph raised their children on that faith, teaching them values and respect.

Mom was the cornerstone of our lives growing up, with her patience, respect, faith and discipline. There was always love in our home, not only given to her children, but to anyone who entered her home. Yvonne welcomed everyone with open arms. A warm meal and a spare bed was extended to all. We, her children, will always hold a special place in our heart and her memory will always be there to guide us through our lives.

Yvonne is survived by three daughters: Sharon (Jerry) Patterson, Omaha, Neb.; Patricia (David) Jorgensen, Fargo; Denise (Jim) Semerad, Bismarck; four sons: Duane Heidt, Fargo; Ken (Norene) Heidt, Dickinson; Jeffrey (Connie) Heidt, Yakima, Wash.; Dennis (Nancy) Heidt, Dickinson; 24 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Dorothy (Bob) Ficek, Pierz, Minn.; Mary Janice Kohler, Anoka, Minn.; Donna Schultz, Dickinson; a sister-in-law, Janet Fugere, Dickinson and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is last preceded in death by her loving husband, Ralph A.; her parents, three brothers, Wallace, Delton, and David and one grandchild.

Magdalen Schmidt

Funeral liturgy for Magdalen Schmidt, 87, of Dickinson will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with Father Charlie Heidt celebrating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Dickinson, at a later date. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 1, at Stevenson Funeral Home.

Magdalen passed away Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson.

Magdalen “Maggie” Schmidt was born Nov. 22, 1922, to John and Margaret (Roether) Schmidt in Dickinson. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School. Maggie lived with her parents in Dickinson until moving to St. Benedict’s Health Center. She had made her home there for the past 27 years.

Maggie was never seen without “Pauly” and “Brownie,” her stuffed animals. She always had them with her. Maggie made a lot of friends over the years at St. Benedict’s and will be dearly missed by her St. Benedict’s family.

Maggie is survived by her sister, Margaret Anton, South Lake Tahoe, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Katherine 'Kay' Armbrust

Katherine “Kay” Armbrust, 71, Belfield, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Health Center. Katherine’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 1, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Belfield, with Father Shannon Lucht as the celebrant. Inurnment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, on Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 1 p.m. MDT. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, with a rosary and vigil at 3 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Arrangements are with Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.

David E. Porter

Funeral services for David E. Porter, age 59 of Dickinson, formerly of Carson, will be held at 3 p.m. MDT Saturday, June 27 at the Carson City Park in Carson. Burial will be in the Carson Community Cemetery.

David passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Watford City.

Surviving family members include his wife, Diane, Dickinson; three sons, Lance Porter, North Bend, Ore.; Dewey (Theresa) Porter, Vandnais Heights, Minn.; Josh Porter, Bismarck; one daughter, Angel Porter-Stewart (Josh) Stewart, Wahpeton; four grandchildren, Rachel, Anna, Tanner and Bowen; his mother-in-law, Arlene Arndt, Leith; one sister, Kathy (Alvin) Ternes, Mandan; two brothers, Gary (Tasha) Porter, Belleville, Ill.; Herman (Laura) Porter, Louisberg, Mo.; nine nephews, and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Allen Porter, his grandparents, Dewey and Lena Porter, and Althur and Mae Karr.
