Jean Smith

Jean Smith, 73, of Carrington, ND, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002 at the Golden Acres Manor Nursing Home of Carrington.

Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Carrington.

A prayer service will be held on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

Evans Funeral Home, Carrington, is in charge of the arrangements.

Ann Mayer

Funeral Mass for Ann Mayer, 92 years old, of Richardton, is Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at 10:00 am in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Richardton with Father Brian Wangler, OSB, celebrating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Richardton.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. in the Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel. Visitation will continue on Tuesday one hour before the funeral mass at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Richardton.

Ann passed away Sunday, June 15, 2003, at St. Benedict’s Health Center.

Ann was born February 26, 1911 on a farm south of Richardton to Peter and Margaret (Kilzer) Kelsch. She was raised in the Richardton area and attended St. Mary’s school. On November 21, 1932 Ann married Albert J. Mayer in St. Stephen’s Church south of Richardton. Together the couple raised their family in Richardton. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church along with serving over 50 years for the Christian Mothers and Royal Neighbor’s.

Ann will be greatly missed by her children, Elaine L. (Don) Depee of Libby, MT, Francis A. (Jane) Mayer of Richardton, ND; 27 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren; three sisters, Marie ( Joe) Mayer of Mott, Eleanor Summers and Evelyn (Mike) Riesinger, all of Dickinson and one sister-in-law, Lena Kelsch. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Albert, two sons, Ronald P. and James J. Mayer, three daughters, Marlene Steiner, Donna M. Wanner and Lorelei N. Rollins, five sisters, one brother and one grandson.

Peter Svensen

Peter Svensen, 84, of Cando, ND, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003 at Towner County Medical Center, Cando.

Funeral service will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home, Cando. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Cando.

Visitation will be today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and for one hour before services, all at Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home.

Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home, Cando, is in charge of the arrangements.

Martha Rediske

Martha Rediske, 87, formerly of Baker, MT, where she and her husband Sheldon were business people from 1941 to 1979, passed away quietly in her sleep on Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at the Big Sky Nursing Home in Helena, MT. Martha was born July 5, 1915, to Henry Huether and Katherine Oberlander of Plevna, MT. She graduated from Plevna High School and Presentation School of Nursing in Miles City, MT with an RN degree in 1937. On October 18, 1939, Martha married Sheldon Rediske at her parents’ farm by Baker, MT. Prior to their marriage Martha had been nursing at the State Hospital in Yakima, WA. In 1941 Martha and Sheldon moved back to Baker and opened Rediske Radio Electric and Refrigeration. Martha worked with Sheldon to build their business and also continued to nurse. She was active in Baker Community Church and their Ladies Aid, Order of the Eastern Star and was the Mother Advisor for Rainbow Girls for many years, as well as an active member of bridge and homemakers clubs. Martha was involved in many civic and charitable activities through out her life. She lived to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors and to be active in all her many organizations. In her later years she served as a Pinkie for the hospital and also helped with the coffee cart at the Baker Hospital. Martha is survived by her three children, Kay Linda Walker of Kalispell, MT, Sheldon Lee of Denver, CO, and Thomas George of Helena, MT. Her seven grandchildren are all grown and all will remember her fondly. She also is survived by four great grandchildren. Martha was preceded in death by her husband Sheldon, who passed away in 1993, her parents, her great grandchild, Alexander Kendrix, her two sisters, Tillie Evans and Bertha Koenig and two brothers, Albert and Russell Huether. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Baker Community Church.

Rev. Clifford Duane Close I

Rev. Clifford Duane Close I, 68, of Devils Lake, ND, died on Friday, March 29, 2002 as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at In His Image Fellowship, Devils Lake. Rev. Paul Tucker will officiate.

Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. led by Bill and Jill Jackson and family. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, is in charge of arrangements.

Loretta Hardy

Mass of Christian Burial for Loretta Clara Hardy, 91 years old, of Apple Valley, CA formerly of Richardton, ND is Monday, July 7, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. (MDT) at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton with Father Brian Wangler, OSB, celebrant and Deacon Melvin Hardy assisting. Internment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Richardton.

Visitation is Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel continuing at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with a rosary and vigil being recited at 7:00 p.m.

Loretta passed away June 29, 2003, in Apple Valley, California.

Loretta was born May 13, 1912 to Joe and Mary (Braulick) Hammerschmidt. She was raised on the family farm north of Richardton. She attended country school and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. She married Ray Hardy in September 1929 in Richardton. Loretta worked as a telephone operator and later as a secretary at an Implement Dealer in Richardton. They moved to California in 1943 where she was employed at U.S. Rubber for thirty years. Ray passed away in September of 1963.

Her life revolved around her family and cat named “Skeeter”. She was a happy fun loving, along with generous soul whom will be long remembered.

Loretta is survived by her four sons, Melvin R. (Virginia) of Pocatello, ID, Archie J. (Lois) of Apple Valley, CA, Fredrick N (Pauline) of Albuquerque, NM, Richard V. (Kathleen) of Los Gatos, CA; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; one brother Joseph (Mary) Hammerschmidt of Richardton; three sisters, Rose Born, Eleanor Hoff, both of Richardton, Marie Sickler of Dickinson, two brothers-in-law, Bro. Victor Frankenhauser, OSB of Richardton, Robert Frankenhauser of Auburndale, FL and one sister-in-law, Rose Harris of El Cajon, CA.

Her parents, four sisters: Gen, Florence, Freida and Louise, and one brother: Frank preceded her in death.

Elsie Henrickson

Elsie Henrickson, 76, of Everett, WA, died April 10, 2001 at Providence General Hospital, Everett.

She was born March 16, 1925 to Arthur and Lena (Skar) Jensen in Sullivan Township in Ramsey County, ND. She was raised and educated there.

She married Robert Henrickson of Everett, WA.

She is survived by her son, David Henrickson of Everett, WA; daughter, Alma Tomanek of White Rock, British Columbia, Canada; her sister, Joyce Elphinestone of Mesa, AZ and several nieces and nephews.

Elmer Neckels

Elmer C. Neckels, 99 of Dickinson died Thursday, July 3, 2003 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Dickinson. Elmer was born October 3, 1903 at Twin Brooks, SD, the son of Fredrick and Louise Hoermann Neckels He was the youngest in the family with one brother and seven sisters. He attended elementary school through the fourth grade in Waubay, SD and then moved with his parents and two youngest sisters to a homestead northeast of Grassy Butte. Elmer took on the farming responsibilities at the homestead, as his father was a carpenter. In 1929 they moved to his sister Emilie’s homestead, eventually acquiring it and three other homesteads and exchanging railroad land for lands adjacent to the ranch. Elmer was married to Bessie Miller on June 25, 2932 in Wibaux, MT. They raised their Family and made their home on the family farm/ranch six miles south of Grassy Butte until they moved to Dickinson in 1968. Hard work, farming, ranching and his family were Elmer’s life.

He traveled to visit his kids and made sure he attended the wedding of each grandchild.

Elmer and Bessie spent 68 years together before she passed away in September of 2000. In October of 2001 Elmer moved into the Evergreen Assisted Care Residence and enjoyed support and friendship of the staff and residents there.

Survivors include a son, Jack (Jolene) Neckels Buena Vista, CO; a daughter, Audrey (Kenneth) Scott, Sellersburg, IN; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His wife, Bessie, his parents, a brother and seven sisters preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Evergreen Assisted Care Residence or your favorite charity in Memory of Elmer.

Helen A. Lovgren

Helen A. Lovgren, 84, of Edmore, N.D., died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, N.D.

Funeral services were held today at 11 a.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church, Edmore, with Rev. Erik E. Johnson officiating. Interment will be in the spring at the Edmore Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Brian Lovgren, Kavan Lovgren, Keefe Lovgren, Andrew Lovgren, J.J. Doehler and Dan O'Connor. Honorary casket bearers were Rodney Melland, Dennis Melland, Roman Rubbelke, Roger Nygaard, Edval Helle, Jr., Jerome Jensen, Gayland Kunkel, Ray Holt, and all of Helen's friends.

Helen A. Barry was born Nov. 5, 1916 at Buffalo, N.D., the daughter of Patrick and Ollie (Shervin) Barry. She was raised in Buffalo, and graduated from Buffalo High School in 1934. She then attended Valley City State Teachers College for two years, Bozeman (Mont.) State Teachers College for one year and Agricultural College, Fargo, for one year. Through her post-secondary education, Helen earned two majors and seven minors in various courses of study.

She was united in marriage to James Lovgren on July 16, 1940 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Devils Lake. Helen predominantly taught high school music and English courses at Edmore, Lawton, Fairdale, Wales, Adams, Nekoma and Hampden, as well as substitute teaching at Crary. She was also a piano teacher to many students in the area.

Helen retired from 35 years of teaching in 1978 and since 1981, she and James spent winters in Grand Forks, where they helped with raising their grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, James, Edmore; six children, Margo (Rick) Viger, Fountain Valley, Calif.; Barry (Sue) Lovgren, Devils Lake; Kyle (Colette) Lovgren, Williston, N.D.; Kim (Becky) Lovgren, Jamestown, N.D.; Meredith (Tim) Baumann, Grand Forks; and Melanie (John) Doehler, LaMoure, N.D.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one niece, Marcia Whipps; and two cousins, Joan Kuske and Roald Satherhagen; as well as other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Evelyn Baldwin.

Aaker Funeral Home, Lakota, is in charge of arrangements.

George E. Aljets Sr.

George E. Aljets Sr., 82, of Carrington, ND, died Tuesday, August 15, 2000 at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington.

Funeral arrangements are pending with Evans Funeral Home of Carrington.
