Donald E. Ellefson, 81
Died: Saturday, March 12, 2005, in his home under hospice care.
Donald Eugene Ellefson was born on April 2, 1923, in Fargo, ND, to O.E. and Adeline (Engelhorn) Ellefson. He grew up and attended school in Minnewauken, ND, graduating from high school there in 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in England, Germany and France. He was discharged in 1946 and returned to Minnewauken and then attended the Wahpeton State School of Science. He worked as a Linotype operator in the Minnewauken area, including the Farmers Press newspaper in Minnewauken and the Devils Lake World newspaper in Devils Lake, ND. Donald married
Lorna Johanson on October 1, 1953, in Devils Lake, MN. They moved to Fargo, ND, in 1969 and he worked for Pierce Printing until retiring in 1985.
Donald is survived by his wife, Lorna Ellefson, Fargo, ND; one son, Greg Ellefson, Fargo, ND; one daughter, Cindy (Mike) Grund, Moorehead, MN; four grandchildren, Michelle, Leslie Anna, Derek and Brandon Grund; one brother, Paul (Lynette) Ellefson, Mesa, AZ.
Fred O. Stoltz, 65

Fred Oliver Stoltz, 65, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Fred was born on June 14, 1939 to George and Nola (Cross) Stoltz in Austin, KY. His mother passed away when Fred was three years of age. Fred was placed in the care of his maternal aunt and uncle Martha and Theodore Janke who legally adopted Fred on September 28, 1946.
As a young man, Fred worked as a farmhand in the Perham, MN area. For the last 15+ years Fred has worked as a dishwasher at the Royal fork restaurant in Fargo. Fred cherished his time at the Royal Fork and looked forward to going to work each day.
Fred lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, going to the casino, having coffee with friends, looking at cars, and almost any activity where he could be social. One of Fred's greatest gifts was his storytelling. It didn't matter if the story was true or not because he always brought a smile and laugh to those he came in contact with. Fred considered his friends at CCRI, Royal Fork, Northland Dental, the Bergh's, St. Joseph's and many others his extended family.
Fred is survived by his cousin Agnes (Roy) Anderson, Lakewood, CO.
Fred was a warm caring individual who will be remembered. Blessed be the memory of Fred Stoltz.
Ronald A. Random, 63

Ronald Random was born March 31, 1941 to Lloyd and Mamie (Fischer) Random. He attended Killdeer High School and served in the Army as a medic from February 1960 to April 1962.
He worked and managed numerous grain elevators starting in 1963 until his retirement in 2003. Ron had great love for life, enjoying fishing, hunting, and searching for Indian artifacts. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife; Darlene, five children; Sandra (Brian) Goerke, Fernly, NV, Dean Kadrmas, Dickinson, ND, Sherry (Jay) Hatfield, Gillette, WY, Jackie Powers, Lemmon, SD, Roxane (Mike) Tvedten, Fargo, ND, his mother; Mamie Kelling, Killdeer, ND, three brothers; Wendel (Sandy) Random, Idaho Falls, ID, Delwin (Dot) Random, Colorado Springs, CO, Wayne (Inge), Maple Valley, WA, 12 grandchildren, and two great-grand children.
Viola J. Barrett, 78

Viola Jeanette Barrett was born in rural Rutland, ND, on October 15, 1926, to Henning and Agnes (Wold) Hawkinson. She attended rural grade school, three years of high school at Rutland, ND, and one year of high school at Havana, ND. Vi married
John C. "Mike" Barrett on January 13, 1951, in Fargo, ND. She worked in the accounting department at the Fargo Glass and Paint Company in Fargo for sixteen years. During those years she also helped her husband Mike, along with others, to found Barrett Mobile Home Transport Incorporated, where she served as accountant and corporate secretary until the business closed in July of 1999. Mike died on Friday, April 8, 1994. Vi's faith was extremely important to her and she was a long time active member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. She enjoyed downhill skiing and loved to golf, and had the good fortune of making two holes in one at the Moorhead Country Club.
Viola is survived by one son, Chris (Michele) Barrett, McDonough, GA; one daughter, Nancy Barrett Ouderkirk (fiance' Dan Osborn), Fargo, ND; four grandchildren, Kailynn and Evan Ouderkirk, and Michael and Caroline Barrett; two sisters, Salina Arneson, Wahpeton, ND, and Karen (Jerry ) Lykes, Seattle, WA; caregiver, Shirley Olson. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Mike Barrett, brother Donald Hawkinson, and sister, Ruth Kullama.
John W. Wright, 74

John W. Wright was born on June 11, 1929, in Fargo, ND, to Walter and Ellen (Peterson) Wright. He grew up and attended school in Moorhead, graduating from Moorhead High School in 1948. He attended Concordia College in Moorhead for three years, and then, in 1951, served in the Army National Guard. John married
Vivian Mae Olson on April 28, 1955, in Detroit Lakes, MN, and they made their home in Moorhead, where he owned and operated Wright Awning Company. Vivian died on February 12, 1998.
John was active in the Moorhead Athletic Association for many years and was an avid Spud Booster. He liked to golf, bowl, fish, and, after learning to ski in his forties, downhill ski.
John is survived by a son, Bill Wright, Moorhead, MN; a daughter, Barb (Dennis) O'Brien, South Haven, MN; two step-grandchildren, Melissa and Colin O'Brien; special friend, Pat Stott, Alexandria, MN; and Hong Kim Huynh, an employee who was like a daughter to John. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian and one brother, Robert.
Keith A. Hagen, 56

Keith A. Hagen was born on January 31, 1948, in Fargo, ND, to Don and Melba (Peterman) Hagen. He grew up and attended school in Moorhead, graduating from Moorhead High School in 1966. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1967 until 1971, during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he worked as a security guard with the North Dakota Air National Guard. Keith moved to Denver, CO, where he started a truck washing business, later moving the business to Casper in 1979. He sold his business and was working for Casper Well products at the time of his death. Keith married
Roxanne Pitmon in 1987.
He is survived by his wife, Roxanne, Casper, WY; his mother, Melba Hagen, Vergas, MN; a sister, Debra Lamb, Paradise Valley, AZ, two nephews, Zachary and Alex Lamb; two stepsons, Tony and Bill Pitmon, and two step-grandchildren, all of Casper, WY. He was preceded in death by his father, Don Hagen, in 2003.
Jean I. Swenson, 63

Jean Irene Buchholz was born on January 17, 1942, in Moorhead, MN, to Albert and Irene (Prieb) Buchholz. She grew up and attended school in Christine, ND, and graduated from High School in Breckenridge, MN, in 1960. Jean married
Wallace Swenson on February 16, 1963, in Faith Lutheran Church, Wolverton, MN, and they later divorced. She lived and raised her children in Wolverton, MN, until 1971. She moved to Fargo, ND, in 1971 and went to work for J.C. Penney, working in the stock room for thirty-one years, retiring on March 14, 2003. Jean loved her daughters and grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time with them and also all her family and friends. She was very devoted to her mother, whom she visited faithfully at Rosewood on Broadway. She liked to sit on her deck and watch the birds and the people, she also liked to keep up with her "Days of our Lives" and other favorite television programs. Home decorating was a special talent of hers and she kept a beautiful home. She liked flower gardening. She enjoyed country music and going to concerts. She was a former member of the J.C. Penney bowling team. Jean was a strong woman, never complaining, who always had a smile. She was a caring and friendly friend, co-worker and neighbor. She worked hard and always gave 110 % in everything she did.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Rhonda (Tony) Bormann, and their children Abigail (5) and Jacob (5), Moorhead, MN, and Joy (David) Rose, and their children, Amber (18), Brian (8), David Jr. (5) and Isabelle (3), Willows, CA; brothers, Leo Buchholz, Fergus Falls, MN, Glen (Jane) Buchholz, Breckenridge, MN, Loren (Mary) Buchholz, Wadena, MN, Louis (Sharon) Buchholz, Tacna, AZ, and Albert (LaVy McGray) Buchholz, Wolverton, MN; sisters, Margie Long, Tulsa, OK, Frances (Tom) Williams, Broken Arrow, OK, Faye Groen, Scottsdale, AZ, and Cheryl (Ronnie) Affield, Kent, MN; uncle Bill Prieb, Fargo, ND; aunt, Gladys Prieb, Barnesville, MN; Godson's Brad Swenson, Casper, WY, Kyle Affield, Kent, MN; and many nieces and nephews; special "grandpuppies" Gypsy and Harley. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Brian, her parents and two brothers, Earl "Bud" and Donald "Pete". She was also preceded in death by her other special canine friends, Jessie I, Jessie II, and "grandpuppy" Reba.
Jean's family would like to express their sincere appreciation for everything everyone has done for Jean and for the family.
Kris P. Pietrzak, 35
Died: Friday, April 15, 2005, in his home.
Kris Pietrzak was born on December 11, 1969, in Hillsboro, ND, to Henry and Kathryn (Mozinski) Pietrzak. The family moved to Moorhead in 1974 where he grew up, attending Lincoln Elementary and St. Joseph's Catholic School, in Moorhead, Shanley High School in Fargo, and graduating from Moorhead High School in 1988. He attended MSUM. Kris worked in construction, trenching, plumbing and was a chef. He was most recently employed by A-1 Plumbing.
Kris is survived by his parents, Henry and Kathryn Pietrzak, Moorhead, MN; a grandmother Irene Mozinski, Minto, ND; a brother Tony (Janna) Pietrzak, Fargo, ND; two daughters; close friend Carol Hall, Fargo, ND and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Clarence J. Davis, 98
Died: Monday, February 28, 2005, in Fargo, ND.
Clarence J. Davis, born to (Ole) William and Jorgina Davis in rural Lake Park, MN, November 8, 1906, died on February 28, 2005 at Johnson Eldercare, Fargo, ND, at the age of 98.
While at home, Clarence helped his parents on their family farm, north of Lake Park, milking cows, caring for animals, and helping with field work. He attended Lake Park public schools, graduating from high school in 1924. His mother, Jorgina, determined that her children would have an education that was denied her. Accordingly, Clarence was a student at St. Olaf College, North field, MN, graduating in 1928. After college, Clarence continued to help on the farm, taking on increased responsibility as he got older. He took over full management upon the death of his father in 1938. Clarence had a wonderful singing voice and was in great demand for solo singing at church services, funerals, celebrations and various events in Lake Park and the surrounding area, as well as singing in his home church choir. He served for some years as chairman of the Lake Park Lutheran congregation, and served on the local elevator board. For many years he served on the board of Lutheran Memorial Home in Twin Valley.
In August 1952, Clarence married
Agnes Skibsrud of Aberdeen SD, having met her while she was parish worker at First Lutheran Church of Detroit Lakes, MN. She also was a St. Olaf graduate, with a good singing voice and joined Clarence in singing duets at services and events throughout the area.
In 1956 Clarence built a new dairy and expanded the dairy herd, and continued dairying until 1968. During this time he received a Dairyman of the Year award. In 1974 he retired from the farm and he and Agnes moved to a home they purchased in Moorhead. For the next nine years he worked at Concordia College on the food service staff. Clarence and Agnes continued to use their voices in the Trinity Lutheran Church choir and in oratorios and operettas as well as solo and duet singing as long as they were able. Clarence was an active member of the Gideon Bible Society for forty some years. They also did quite a bit of traveling. Their final years were spent at Eventide Home in Moorhead, where Agnes died two years ago. Clarence lived at Johnson Eldercare the last eight months where he received loving care from Meredith and Dale Johnson. Clarence passed away peacefully in his sleep February 28, 2005.
Clarence and Agnes had a marvelous, lifelong, Christian witness, and touched many lives through word and song.
Clarence and Agnes had no children. Their closest surviving relatives include nephews Leland (Marita) Erickson of Lake Park, Arland (Kathy) Erickson of Minneapolis, Leighton Erickson of Austin, TX and niece Astri (Dave) Matson of Pelican Rapids, and several grand nieces and nephews.
Carol L. Kasin, 71
Died: Friday, January 14, 2005, in Villa Maria Nursing Home, Fargo, ND.
Carol Lavonne Kasin was born on a farm near Hawley, MN on February 15, 1933 to William and Irene (Cummings) Fogel. She attended rural schools and later graduated from Hawley High School in 1950. Carol was united in marriage to Maurice Kasin at Hawley, MN on September 15, 1951. Since their marriage they have farmed near Hawley, MN Carol enjoyed doing ceramics for many years and also enjoyed doing yard work outside in the summer months.
