Lawrence L. Quam, 81
Died: Thursday, September 08, 2005, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Larry was born August 16, 1924, in rural Glyndon to Andrew and Jennie Louise (Larson) Quam. He lived in Glyndon and Spring Prairie Township until 1935, and attended rural schools through the 6th grade. In 1935 the family moved to Hawley where his father began a hide, fur and scrap metal business. While attending Hawley High School, he worked with his father and also as a hired hand on farms in the summer. After graduating from HHS in 1941, he enrolled at North Dakota State in 1942. He enlisted in the U.S. Army serving 3 years, the last 2 years in the European Theater of Operations. Through the Army, he studied at Texas A & M University. Upon his return he completed his degree in Business Administration at the University of Minnesota in 1948. He married
Elsie Carlson of Erskine, MN in 1949. After working as an accountant in Fargo for 2 years he and Elsie moved back to Hawley in 1951 to join in partnership with his father in the family business. He continued in business until 1971, at which time he began his 17 year term as Hawley City Clerk-Treasurer and Public Utilities Secretary. He demonstrated his commitment to his community with 43 years of public service serving on Hawley Public Utilities Commission, Hawley School Board, City Clerk and Public Utilities Secretary, Hawley's representative and Vice-President on the Board of Directors of the Northern Municipal Power Agency, Hawley Chamber of Commerce, Hawley Rodeo Association, and the American Legion. After retirement, he continued to serve as an Ambassador for the Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association for several years.
His retirement allowed him to pursue his passions of history, travel and opera. He and Elsie traveled extensively throughout the U.S., Western, Eastern, and Northern Europe, Russia, Scandinavia, and Great Britain, always with a special interest in the history of each destination. His love of music, especially opera, would draw him to tears. He attended many performances at the great opera houses of the world. He was a wonderful storyteller, always appreciating a willing audience. He had a quick mind, warm heart and a great sense of humor all of which contributed to a rich, full life.
Larry is survived by his wife Elsie, four sons, two daughters, and two grandchildren: Byron (Ann Talbot) Vancouver, BC; Jeffrey (Rebecca Smith), Moorhead; Linda King of Prussia, PA; Marilynn (John Valenzuela), Costa Mesa, CA; Richard, Fargo; William (Cheri) with children McKenna and Alex, Fargo. Brothers and sisters: Dorothy Hovelsrud, Carol Nelson, Roger, David, and Patty Sherbrooke.
It is the family's request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief or a charity of choice.

Thomas E. Becker was born on January 3, 1934, in San Antonio, TX. He grew up and graduated from high school there. Tom served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge from the service, he returned to San Antonio, TX, and later moved to Minnesota, where he married
Hazel Morehart on January 29, 1966 at Shelly, MN. They lived in Ada, MN, and then moved to Moorhead in March of 1967. Tom worked at Silverline Boat company, Fargo Foundry, various construction companies and operated his own company, Becker's Remodeling, as well as driving truck for several long haul trucking companies.
Tom is survived by his wife, Hazel, Moorhead, MN; children, Becky (Terry) Ellerman, Sparta, Missouri, Steven Eugene Becker, Sandra Kay (Michael) Busbee, Tyler, TX, Richard Eugene Becker, Ulen, MN, and DeAnn Delaine Becker, Moorhead, MN; grandchildren, Neil Erickson House, Willard, Missouri, Stephanie Denise Burch, Tyler, TX, Samantha Samone Becker, Moorhead, MN, Tierra Nicole Becker, Moorhead, MN; great-grandchildren, Cody Nicholas House, Lees Summit, Missouri, Lacie Elizabeth Greer, Tyler, TX, Colten Blaze Mayo, Tyler, TX; brother, David Cole Lewis, Tomball, TX; sisters Marlene DePas, Tempe, AZ, and Sharon K. Mildred C. Olson, 90
Died: Tuesday, May 09, 2006, in Sunnyside Care Center, Lake Park, MN.
Mildred was born July 8, 1915, in Clay County, Minnesota to Carl and Helga Ramstad. She grew up and graduated from Hawley High School. Following graduation she attended Detroit Lakes Business College. She married
Albert R. Olson June 3, 1942. He died from a hunting accident on November 19, 1945, two months after returning from serving over seas during World War II. Mildred spent most of her life doing office work in the Minneapolis area, returning to Lake Park and Hawley after her retirement.
Mildred belonged to the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Helga, father, Carl, a brother Berlyn, and a sister, Leona.
Mildred is survived by a niece, Nancy Kennedy; and a nephew, Donald Hagen; great nieces and nephews; several cousins; and a brother-in-law; Mart Hagen.
Ronald Mandsager, 75

Ronald was born in Fargo on February 18, 1930, to Eli and Elsie Mandsager. Ronald graduated from Moorhead High School in 1948 and attended Moorhead State University. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 and returned to Felton to farm. Ronald married
Linda Sorenson on January 6, 1974.
Ronald was very active in his community. He served on the Felton Farmers Coop Elevator Board, Glyndon-Felton School Board, as President of the church council, member of the Felton Lion's Club, and served as President of the Moorhead Memorial Gardens cemetery Board being instrumental to the cemetery's conversion to Riverside cemetery of Moorhead. He retired from farming in 1995.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Linda; one daughter, Sara (Jarrod) Wang, Fargo, ND; one son, Steven (Kristi) Mandsager and granddaughter, Grace Mandsager, all of Burnsville, MN; a sister, Bev (Erwin) Hurner, Moorhead, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Thomas A. Mikkelsen, 58

Tom was born on May 30, 1947, in Fargo, ND, to Clarence and Irene (Safgren) Mikkelsen. He grew up and attended school in Glyndon, MN, and graduated from the Wahpeton State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND. He spent most of his life in the hospitality industry, managing bars and restaurants in the western states and Hawaii. He had lived in Fargo the last three years and was working for Dakota Drug.
Tom is survived by his mother, Irene Mikkelsen, Chandler, AZ; brother, Gary (Marlys) Mikkelsen, Fargo, ND; and his sister, Trish Olness, Chandler, AZ. He was preceded in death by his father, and a brother, Mike.
Donald B. Britten, 66
Died: Friday, May 12, 2006, in MeritCare's Palliative Care Unit, Fargo, ND.
Donald B. Britten of Moorhead, MN, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 12, 2006 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Donald was born March 6, 1940. He was raised by parents Fred Britten and Agnes and Herman Peterson. He grew up and attended grade school in Grand Forks before moving to Larimore where he graduated from high school in 1958. After graduation from high school Donald entered the Army and served from 1961 to 1963. On June 12, 1964 he married
the love of his life, Joyce Hangaard. He worked as a lather for various contractors and retired from G & M Lathing Inc. in 1996 after about 25 years with the company. Donald was a member of the Lathers Local # 190, Minneapolis, MN, a member of the Moorhead American Legion, and a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church. He was an avid bowler, but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and family. He loved fishing, and watching his grandchildren play softball, baseball, and football.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Robert Larson. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; his two daughters, Cynthia Pokrzywinski, her husband Dennis, and their children, Ryan, Kyle, and Tessa of West Fargo, and Lisa Zerr, her husband Richard, and their children Benjamin and Joseph of West Fargo.
Ragna "Red" Evenson, 84

Ragna "Red" Evenson, 84, formerly of 414 Elmwood Ave. S., Fargo, ND, died Saturday, May 7, 2005, at Elim Care Center, surrounded by her family.
Ragna Melvor was born on October 1, 1920, on the Grondahl farm in rural Maddock, Benson County, ND, to Alf and Mari (Sagrusten) Melvor. She grew up on the farm, attending area schools and graduating from the Benson County Agricultural and Training School in 1938. Ragna was united in marriage to Annil H. Bratvold on August 7, 1943. Annil was killed in action in June of 1944. Ragna graduated from Interstate Business College of Fargo in 1945. She worked for the Harry Lashkowitz law firm as a legal secretary for several years. Ragna was united in marriage to Marcus G. Evenson on July 23, 1949, in St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Fargo. With the birth of their first daughter, Ragna became a homemaker until the children had grown. Before retiring in 1984, she was a cook at St. Luke's / MeritCare for several years. Ragna enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, reading, music, coffee and cookies, and talking on the phone.
Ragna is survived by her husband, Marcus; her two daughters, Mary (Steve) Knowlton, Troy, MI; Sharon (Mitch) Ruud, Fargo, ND; her son, David Evenson and his wife, Beverly Bohn, Fargo, ND; her granddaughters, Lindsay Knowlton, Jessica and Kristen Ruud. She is also survived by two sisters, Borghild Aanderud, Hillsboro, ND; and Alvhild (Jimmie) Olson, Minnewaukan, ND; and eight nieces and nephews. Ragna was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Annil, and her sister, Astrid Kalin.
Memorials are preferred to the Hospice of the RRV and Elim Care Center, Fargo, ND.
Lloyd E. Lidbeck, 79
Died: Wednesday, March 08, 2006, in MeritCare's Palliative Care Unit, Fargo, ND.
Lloyd Lidbeck of Moorhead, MN died March 8, 2006 while surrounded by family. He fought a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Lloyd was born in Bird Island, MN, May 11, 1926 to Hugo and Mary (Johnson) Lidbeck. Lloyd married
Dorothy Forsyth in 1945. Lloyd served in the Army in 1946 and went to Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1947.
Lloyd and Dory moved to Portland, OR in 1948 where Lloyd worked at the telephone company as well as at a service station with his brother Lyle. Their son Ronald was born in Portland.
Shortly after Ron was born they moved back to Bird Island and worked the farm after Lloyd's father died. In 1959 Lloyd started working for Northrup King as branch Manager in Moorhead, MN. In 1962 Lloyd transferred to Norfolk, NE where they lived until moving to Rochelle, IL with the same company. In 1980 they transferred back to Moorhead with Northrup King and Lloyd stayed until he retired from the company in 1985.
He was then recruited to Knight Seed Co. in Moorhead as a broker until 1989 when he retired for good.
His wife Dory died in 2003 and Lloyd married
Lucille Phillips in 2004.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Lucille; son Ron (Kathy) Apple Valley, MN; three granddaughters, Carol, Ann and Jane, Apple Valley, MN; and one sister Hazel Larson, Merrifield, MN. Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Dory, one sister Alice and three brothers, Leonard, Roy and Lyle.
Dorothy W. Fabian, 94

Dorothy W. Fabian, 94, of Fargo, ND, died Friday, May 27, 2005, at Bethany Homes, Fargo, ND.
Dorothy W. Fabian was the oldest of eight children. She was born to Richard and Martha (Gerber) Fabian on April 21, 1911, in Everest, ND. She was confirmed on June 7, 1925 at Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Casselton, ND. In 1926 the family moved from ND to a farm near Norcross, MN. Later they moved to a farm near Herman, MN. Dorothy left home in 1940 to work in a defense plant in Detroit, MI. She attended Beauty School in the evenings. Later Dorothy moved to Chicago, IL, and opened her own beauty shop. In 1970 she moved back to Fargo to be near her family.
Dorothy was preceded in death by two sisters, Elnora (Ed) DeVries and Leona (Louis) Nordby; four brothers, Rudolph (Sylvia) Fabian, Leonard (Isabelle) Fabian, Raymond (Margaret) Fabian, and Erwin (Dorothy) Fabian.
Dorothy is mourned by one brother, William (Charlotte) Fabian; and many nieces and nephews.
