Evanson, Scott

Scott Evanson, 32, was released from his pain and taken Home to his Father on June 14, 2004, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Scott died at his home surrounded by his wife and family.
Scott David Evanson was born October 14, 1971, in Mayville, ND, where he lived and attended school until 1980 when the family moved to Williston, ND. He graduated from Williston High School in 1990. Scott attended Bottineau College and later moved to Fargo where he was employed by Fargo Rent-All until he became disabled from his cancer.
On August 7, 1999, Scott was united in marriage to Jodi Reiersgard, whom Scott referred to as his “Angel”. Scott will be remembered for his strength and courage, his wit, his love for music, and his love for Jodi and his family.
Scott is survived by his loving wife Jodi and unborn sons Silas and Nicholas; his mother, Mary Kay Odegard and her husband Richard, Williston; his father, James Evanson and his wife Eileen, Mayville; his sisters, Laurie (Pete) Furuseth, Williston, Melanie (Clarence) Houle, Park Rapids, MN, and Carla (Mike) McCall, Wahpeton, ND; 12 very special nieces and nephews; one great nephew and one great niece. He is also survived by many special friends, aunt, uncles, and cousins.
Scott was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John and Pat (Meryl) Hunter, and paternal grandparents, Olavis and Inga Evanson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in First Presbyterian Church in Fargo. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday in the Jenny Roberts Room at the church, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held Friday in the church one hour prior to services. Entombment will be at Riverside Mausoleum in Fargo.

Black, Charles

Charles W. Black, age 76, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004 in Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo, ND
Charles Black was born June 22, 1927 in Bowesmont, ND, to George W. and Altheir (Empey) Black. He attended Bowesmont Public School and Pembina High School, graduating from there in 1945. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp from February 1946 to November 1947. He then worked at Fuilg General Store and for the Northern Pacific Railroad doing construction work. He was a member of VFW Post #762.
He is survived by his aunt, Muriel Paulson, Drayton, ND, stepson, Dennis (Dorene) Hrynyk, Emerson, Manitoba, Canada; his grandaughters, Tara (Lorne) and Jodi (Greg) and great grandson, Gavin, all Winnipeg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emily and his parents.
A graveside service will be held at a later date in Bowesmont cemetery, north of Drayton, ND.

Lien, Shirley

Shirley A. Lien, 56, Fargo, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at her home.
Shirley A. Hendrickson was born to Erven and Ruby Hendrickson on February 26, 1948. She grew up and attended school in Fargo, graduating from Fargo North in 1966. Shirley worked for O’Day Equipment Company for a time and then worked for the North Dakota State Seed Department. Shirley A. Hendrickson and Ken D. Lien were married
on April 6, 1968 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. In 1979 Ken and Shirley started Lien Games. Shirley worked at Lien Games until recently.
She is survived by her husband, Ken D. Lien, Fargo, ND; son, Brad Lien, Fargo, ND; mother, Ruby Hendrickson, Fargo, ND; and sister, Vicki L.(Ken) Figgins, Omaha, NE.
She was preceded in death by her father, Erven.
Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Kermith Foss
Kermith O. Foss died on February 17, 2003 at the Midland Community Hospital IN Papillion, Nebraska at the age of 84 years.
He was born on March 20, 1918 in Maddock, North Dakota, the son of Hermo and Mina (Raaen) Foss. He served two enlistments with the US Navy before enlisting in the US Air Force. On February 27, 1960, Kermith was married
to Gladys Frank at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hewitt, Minnesota. He finished his military career working in the Defense Department at the Pentagon and various other capacities. He continued to in the Arlington, Virginia area with Civil Service until moving to Omaha, Nebraska in 1979 to enjoy full retirement.
Kermith is survived by his wife Gladys and many loving nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers for the Burial in Minnesota were Kris Kyar, Kevin Kyar, Don Van Sickle, Raymond Mounts, Larry Saathoff and Bob Anderson.

Gladys I. Ophaug, 95
Died: Wednesday, September 28, 2005, in Elim Care Center, Fargo, ND.
Gladys Irene (Brennan) Ophaug, age 95, of Fargo, ND passed away at Elim Care Center, Fargo, ND on September 28, 2 005.
Gladys was born January 30, 1910 at Perth, ND, the oldest child of Jens Ludvig and Annie (Kjos) berg. She was baptized and attended school in the Rock Lake N.D. area. Gladys married
Claus Brennan of Gardner, ND on December 2, 1934. They lived in the Gardner, Warwick, Pekin and McVille, ND areas before moving to Fargo, ND. Claus died in 1969. Gladys then married
Einar Ophaug in 1975 and they lived in Grand Forks, ND. Einar died in 1987.
Surviving Gladys are two daughter, Arlene (Lauren) Haugen, Pekin and Grand Forks, ND and Jeanette Buerkle, Largo, Fl; five sons, Clayton (Gloria) Brennan, West Fargo, ND, Gerald (Joanne) Brennan, Bismarck, ND, Donald (Sharon) Brennan, Horace, ND, Paul (Nancy) Brennan, Sedalia, CO and Burton (Susan) Brennan, Nampa, ID. Daughter Carol (Marvin) Narum died in 1975. Gladys is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and step children and their families.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother Orris and 1 sister, Loretta.
Kermit H. Engebretson, 82

Kermit Hilman Engebretson was born August 17, 1922 in Pelican Rapids, MN. He was the son of Carl and Helga (Hersrud) Engebretson. He moved with his family to Fargo, ND in 1927 where he attended Fargo Public Schools, graduating from Fargo Central High School in 1940. After high school, he joined the US Navy in 1942, serving in the European Theatre during WWII. Upon his discharge in 1945, he returned to Fargo. Kermit married
Doris Johnson on October 28, 1950 in Moorhead, MN. He was employed by Consolidated Freightways, Martin Transfer and Burlington Northern Transport, retiring in 1982. Kermit enjoyed bowling and golfing for many years, and had scored a hole in one at El Zagal Golf Course. He loved to play cards with family and friends. He also enjoyed traveling, mostly visiting his children at several locations. Kermit was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Fargo and also the Fargo VFW and American Legion Posts.
He is survived by his wife, Doris, Fargo; 6 children, Bradley, Arlington, TX, Jeffrey, Denver, CO, Cynthia Muhle, Denver, CO, Tracy (Shelly) and David of Fargo, ND, and Sandra (Stuart) White, Arlington, TX; a sister, Charlotte Hoff, Reno, NV; 10 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; a sister-in-law, Harriet Engebretson, Pelican Rapids, MN; and several nieces, nephews and very good friends in various places.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Greg in 1994, a grandson Joshua Muhle in 1996, 2 brothers, Clyde and Richard, and a sister Ethel Stinson.
Marcelle G. Anderson, 85

Marcelle G. Anderson, 85, of Moorhead, died Saturday, August 6, 2005, in Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo, surrounded by her loving family.
Marcelle Genevieve Haarsager was born on October 31, 1919 in rural Litchville, ND, to Alfred A. and Emma M. (Haarsager) Haarsager. She grew up and attended country school in rural Litchville. On March 29, 1947 she married
Bernard Anderson in Litchville.
Marcelle was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved gardening, sewing, handwork, baking, fishing and had a special love for children. She was a member of Degree of Honor since 1983, she also volunteered for many years at Good Shepherd to do quilting. She will be missed dearly by her friends and family.
She is survived by her husband, Bernard; two sons, Collin (Janet) Anderson, Maple Grove, MN, Richard Anderson, Fargo, ND; three daughters, Rogene (Peter) Danielson, Valley, NE, Jerilyn (Al) Craychee, Fargo, ND, Jolene (Scott) Grovum, East Grand Forks, MN; six grandchildren; five great-grandchilden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Alfred Haarsager; and one sister, Arlene Mayer.
Lyle I. Strand, 70
Died: Tuesday, August 16, 2005, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Lyle Ingmar Strand was born on Friday, October 12, 1934 at his parents' home in Richland County, rural Abercrombie, North Dakota. His parents were Ingmar and Ruth (Gunness) Strand. He was the youngest of six children. His two sisters were Rachel, who married
Glenn Fixen and Naomi, who married
Arley Lyseng. His brothers were Percy (Judy), Donald (Betty Lou) and Irving (Shirley).
He attended Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Abercrombie while growing up. His elementary education (grades one through eight) was spent in a one-room country school near Home. He attended high school at Abercrombie High School from which he graduated as Valedictorian of his graduating class of 1952. That same year he joined the United States Naval Reserve serving for ten years.
He earned a Bachelors of Art degree with a major in Economics and a minor in Math Education from Concordia College, Moorhead in 1956. He worked at Fargo National Bank from 1956 to 1957. In the fall of 1957, he began his teaching career at Hawley Public School, where he taught junior high mathematics.
Lyle married
Shirley Moe June 14, 1958 at Tingvold Lutheran Church near Underwood, Minnesota. In 1960, he earned his Master's of Science degree in Mathematics from Minnesota State University-Moorhead. During his teaching years, he was advisor to various classes and advisor to the Future Teachers of America and the National Honor Society. Because of his health, he was forced to retire from teaching in March, 1976.
He was able to remain at his home in Hawley until May of 2002. Then, because of complications due to multiple sclerosis, he moved to Sunnyside Care Center near Lake Park until 2004 when he became a resident of the Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen, Minnesota.
He and Shirley raised three sons. Bryan lives in Hawley. Barry and his wife Charlene lives in Paynesville, MN, with their two children, Brody and Sophia. Bradley and his wife Renae live in Pelican Rapids, MN, with their three daughters, Mackenzie, Bailey and Katelyn.
Lyle and Shirley are members of Hawley Alliance Church where Lyle once served as treasurer.
Lyle had a wonderful sunny disposition and when you asked him how he was, he would always reply "I can't complain."
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, both sisters and one brother, Donald.
Lyle is survived by his wife and three sons and their families; brothers, Percy (Judith) Strand, Wahpeton, ND, Irving (Shirley) Strand, Rice Lake, WI; brother-in-law, Glenn Fixen, Galchutt, ND; sister-in-law, Betty Lou Strand, Kindred, ND, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
