Funeral services for Orlan Rust, age 67, Hawley, MN, will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo. Visitation will be held in the funeral home one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Faith Lutheran cemetery, Wolverton, MN. Orlan died Thursday, May 6, 2004, in MeritCare, Fargo.
Orlan Rust was born November 2, 1936, in Wolverton, MN. He grew up and attended school in the Wolverton area. Following his schooling, Orlan worked for various area farmers. He also served in the U.S. Army. Most recently he lived in Hawley.
He is survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.

Woodbury, George

George Woodbury, age 80, of Fargo, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2004, at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo.
George was born January 29, 1924, at Napoleon, ND, the son of Albert and Alma (Fredrickson) Woodbury. He attended rural school there. He and his brother Edward lived on a farm until 1946 when they moved to the state of Washington. George worked at a saw mill for 10 years. In 1955, he moved to a farm at Warden, Montana. In 1972, he moved to Fargo and worked on the Helgrim farm until he retired.
He is survived by one brother, Edward (Margaret) Woodbury of West Fargo, ND; one nephew, Charles (Rose) Woodbury and family, Matthew, Angela, and Kate Woodbury, West Fargo; and one niece, Charlene (Peter) Hovde, Moorhead, MN. He is also survived by other nieces and nephews, Verna Stiener, Idaho, and Darleen (Harlan) Taylor, Florida.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Sunday in Boulger Funeral Home, and also from 1-2 p.m. Monday in Boulger Funeral Home. Burial will be in Springvale cemetery, Fargo.

Bernardy, Alice

Alice Bernardy, 84, Fargo, passed away Friday, May 7, 2004 in Bethany Homes, Fargo.
Alice Bernardy was born on September 29, 1919 to Joseph and Sophie (Hartman) Bernardy. She grew up in Fargo, attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1937. Alice worked as a bookkeeper at the deLendrecie’s Department Store for a number of years before going to work for Gate City Bank. She retired as head bookkeeper of Gate City Bank in 1981 after working there for 30 years. Alice was a gentle loving person who dedicated her life to, and loved, her church, family and friends. She will be missed.
She is survived by three sisters, Mabel Rice, Monticello, MN, Josephine Lowney, Zimmerman, MN, and Hazel Bellemare, Pocahontas, Arkansas; one brother, Joseph Allen (Lee Ann) Bernardy, Winona, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Alice was preceded in death by her three brothers, Herbert Louis Bernardy, Raymond Sherman Bernardy, and Otto Budd Bernardy; and two sisters, Dorothy Helen Stuhr and Betty Jane Bernardy.
Funeral: 12:00 Noon Wednesday, St. Mary’s Cathedral, Fargo
Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m. Tuesday Boulger Funeral Home
Visitation: 6:00 to 7:00 pm in the funeral home and one hour before the funeral in the church.

Vettel, Alexander

Alexander “Alex” Vettel, died Sunday, May 9, 2004 in the Hillsboro Medical Center, Hillsboro, North Dakota at the age of 85.
Alexander John Vettel was born September 14, 1918 at Kelso, North Dakota, the son of John and Mary (Muller) Vettel. The family farmed in the Kelso and Caledonia area and also near Hillsboro, North Dakota. Alex graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1937. He farmed with his father until he was drafted into the Army during WWII. He was part of the invasion force at Omaha Beach in Normandy, France, he also served in Sicily and Africa and was wounded in France, for which he received the purple heart. After the war he returned to Hillsboro and began working as a carpenter. Alex married
Violet Gustafson on November 24, 1953 in Stanley, North Dakota. The couple made their home in Hillsboro. He owned and operated Vettel Construction in Hillsboro from 1948 until his retirement in 1995. He has been a resident of the Hillsboro Nursing Home since 1998. Violet passed away in 2000.
Alex was an avid gardener who loved spending time in his yard tending to his flowers and vegetables, sharing his harvest with family, friends, and neighbors. His love for nature, animals and children was very evident to anyone he met. Alex was also a wonderful woodworker who loved working on projects in his shop, including cuckoo clocks and grandfather clocks.
He is survived by three children, Barb (Mike) Lhotka of Cokato, Minnesota; Bud Vettel of Hillsboro, North Dakota, and Joanie Vettel of West Fargo, North Dakota; and one granddaughter, Kate Vettel, Fargo, North Dakota. Two sisters Geraldine Yanish of Valley City, North Dakota and Delores Uriell of Lakota, North Dakota. He was preceded in death by his sisters; Bertha Wright, Marcella Vettel and a brother Jerome Vettel.
Visitation: Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hillsboro, North Dakota

Edland, Matthew

Matthew Donald Edland was born on November 25, 1957 in Cooperstown, ND to Russell and Lorraine (Lunde) Edland. He graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1976. Matt attended Valley City State University and received his BS in Industrial Education and an AA in Graphic Communications. He attended Kent State University, Kent, OH, for his MA in Industrial Technology.
He returned to North Dakota to begin his career. Matt worked in Fargo at Western States Life, MeritCare Hospital, Promersberger Company, Dictaphone Corporation and US Bank before his current position at Valley City State University as an Instructor for the 1st Online Technology Education program in the nation to prepare teachers for the classroom. Matt had recently accepted a tenure position at VCSU.
Matt, with his wife Marylou, owned and operated Five By Five Photography, which specialized in weddings and Senior graduations. Matt was a riverboat captain for the Riverkeepers, he coached baseball and football on his son’s teams, and served on the board of the FM Athletic Association. Matt loved sailing and hoped to someday retire on a boat sailing the Caribbean. Matt took up running a year ago and was in training for Grandma’s Marathon when he died.
On September 20, 1986 Matt married
the love of his life, Marylou Leier of Orrin, ND. They had three children whom he adored, Jacob (13), Grant (10) and Emily (8).
Matt is survived by loving family, his wife, Marylou of Fargo, and their children, Jacob, Grant and Emily; his mother, Lorraine (Alvin) Boe of Bemidji, MN; his sisters, Candy Edland and Kaia Edland, both of Bemidji; his stepbrothers, Tom (Connie) Boe of Clear Lake, MN, and Scott (Cathy) Boe of Colorado Springs, CO; and many very special nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his in-laws, Albert and Alice Leier of Orrin; and grandparents-in-law, Eblena Reiter and George Leier, both of Rugby, ND; and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Lorilee (Kurt) Kaplan of Minot, ND, LeeAnn (John) Seil of Williston, ND, LeeAllen (Bekki) Leier of Rugby; Marlene (Rick) Hoffart of Portland, OR, Terry (Debbie) Leier of Minot, Wayne (Annette) Leier of Orrin, and Jodi (Anthony) Larson of Hettinger, ND, and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Russell.
Matt passed away on Tuesday, May 11, 2004, in Fargo, at the age of 46.
Visitation: 6:30-7:30 p.m. Friday in Sts. Anne and Joachim Catholic Church in Fargo, and one hour prior to the funeral in the church on Saturday.
Prayer Service: 7:30 p.m. Friday in the church.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Sts. Anne and Joachim Catholic Church.

Montplaisir, George

George Paul Montplaisir, 70, of Fargo, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 26, 2004, surrounded by loving family, at his Minnesota lake home on West MacDonald Lake, following a courageous fight with cancer.
George was born in Fargo on July 6, 1933, the son of Wilfrid and Julia (Rivard) Montplaisir. He grew up and attended school in Fargo, graduating in the inaugural class of Shanley High School in 1951. Following high school George received an accounting degree from Interstate Business College in Fargo and then worked for Northern Pacific Railroad in Glendive, Mt and in Fargo. On August 4, 1956, George married
Marjorie Olson, and together they lovingly raised five children. In 1958 he began a long and successful career at Knight Printing Company, serving as Vice President and Controller, and became an owning partner in the company in 1990.
Since his retirement in 1995, George and Marge enjoyed wintering in the company of family and friends in Mesa, AZ, and spending summers at the lakes. George loved life at the lake and all that it had to offer. What meant the most to him was being able to share his home with others. The doors of his lake home were always open to family, friends, and relatives. His generosity will always be remembered by those who knew him.
During his years, George enjoyed many outdoor activities, including camping, hunting, fishing and golfing. He built his own sailboat and enjoyed many summer days taking friends and family for rides.
George was preceded in death by his parents and will be missed by his wife, Marjorie; five children, Susan (Curt) Rydell, Fargo; Kevin, Fargo; Brenda (Todd) MacDonald, Winnipeg, MB, Canada; Judy (Daniel) Roach, Audubon, MN; and Keith (Trina), Fargo; his grandchildren Paul and Aaron Rydell, Brett and Elise Montplaisir, Caden, Hunter and Chloe MacDonald, Gabriel Roach and Ben Montplaisir; his siblings Robert (Lucille) Montplaisir, Seattle, WA; Donald (Yvette) Montplaisir, Maude Lake, MN; Bette Haug, Mesa, AZ; and Roy Montplaisir, Mesa, AZ; and other close family and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Preston Steen, Joanna Hoffman and the staff of the Roger Maris Cancer Center for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Roger Maris Cancer Center or Hospice.

Rohman, Grayce

Grayce Rohman passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at the Hillsboro Medical Center Nursing Home at the age of 91.
Grayce Burd was born on March 5, 1913, at Nielsville, Minnesota, the daughter of George and Eliza (Bjornstad) Burd. She grew up in this area and graduated from Climax High School. On May 4, 1945, she was united in marriage to Wallace Rohman in Bemidji, Minnesota. They made their home near Hillsboro where they farmed for many years, retiring in 1988. Wallace passed away in March of 1995. Grayce was a longtime member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. She entered the Hillsboro Nursing Home under Hospice Care on May 27, 2004.
Grayce is survived by her son, Randall (Irene) Rohman of Keizer, Oregon; and daughter, Julie (Lynn) Foss of Hillsboro, North Dakota; 4 grandchildren, Tyler (Jennifer) Rohman; Kym Rohman; Brian (Amy) Foss; and Matthew Foss. She is also survived by her sister, Nelia Ford of Halstad, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Sarah and Belma; and her brother, Jerald.
