Nissen, Rev. Elwyn

Rev. Elwyn J.Nissen, 79, Moorhead, Minnesota, formerly of Kindred, North Dakota, died Saturday, April 24, 2004, at Moorhead Healthcare Center, Moorhead.
Elwyn Jerome Nissen, the son of William and Ruth (Knox) Nissen, was born on a farm near Sanish, North Dakota, on September 30, 1924. Elwyn attended a one-room country schoolhouse. He graduated form Van Hook High School in 1942, and from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota in 1947. The following year, he taught in the public school at Hunter, North Dakota. In September of 1948 he entered Luther Theological Seminary in St Paul, Minnesota and graduated May 18, 1952.
On August 5, 1950, he was united in marriage with Marilyn Aamodt of Cottonwood, Minnesota.
Rev. Nissen served at many churches including Sherwood, Kindred, Leeds, Velva, Tolna all in North Dakota. Since his retirement he has served the Tri County Ministry of North Dakota and many interims and pulpit supply. He was active in many church conferences and synod committees.
Rev. Nissen volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America for more than 40 years and including serving as Scout Master for many troops. He also was active in the Lions.
Rev. Elwyn Nissen is survived by his wife Marilyn, his two sons, David (Stacy), New Brighton, MN and Dan (Cynthia), Wausau, WI, and one daughter Deborah (Rev. Dean) Johansen, Jacksonville, Florida, his brothers and sisters, Ira (June) Nissen Salem, OR, Betty (Mel) Johnson, Kenmare, ND, Nina (Dale) Uran, New Town, ND, Paul (Patsy)Nissen, Rock Springs, WY, and his grandchildren, Ashley, Jamie, and Joseph Nissen, and Leah, Aaron, Alicia and Andrew Johansen, and many nieces and nephews.
Rev. Nissen is preceded in death by his parents, sister Ione Kerzman, and brother Merald Nissen.
The funeral for Rev. Nissen will be Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at 1:30pm at the Kindred Lutheran Church, Kindred, North Dakota. Burial will follow the service at Kindred cemetery, Kindred North Dakota.
Visitation will be Monday, April 26, 2004 from 4-7pm at Fredrikson Funeral Chapel, Kindred, ND.

Ludwig, Esther

Esther passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at the Hillsboro Medical Center Nursing Home at the age of 86.
Esther Weible was born at Ross, Iowa, to Adam and Katherine (Koenig) Weible on June 2, 1917. In 1920 she moved with her family to Bohnsack Township in Traill County where she lived most of her life. She attended Bohnsack Consolidated School, graduating in 1935. She attended Mayville State Teacher’s College and later taught school. On June 23, 1939, she married
Wilton Ludwig. They farmed in Bohnsack Township. He died in 1984. In 1996, Esther moved to Hillsboro where she has lived since.
Esther is survived by her children, Kay (Darrell) Rotvold of Hillsboro; John "Jack" (Ros) Ludwig of Atherton, Queensland, Australia; Wilton Jr. (Heide) Ludwig of Buffalo, Minnesota; Eileen (Dennis) Klug of Frazee, Minnesota; Anne (Don) Walker of Libby, Montana; and Robert (Char) Ludwig of Hillsboro; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and one brother, Harold (Jacquie) Weible. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Eddie (Isabel) Weible; and two sisters, Hilda Pratt and Mildred Wallace.

VISITATION: 4-7:30 PM Friday at Wildeman Funeral Home - and one hour prior to the funeral in the church on Saturday

Wachala, Anthony "Tony"

Anthony “Tony” Wachala, 83, Fargo, ND, passed away May 1, 2004 at his home under the care of Hospice.
Anthony Wachala was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 1, 1921 to Anthony Wachala Sr. and Louise (Tokarz) Wachala. He graduated from Morton East High School in Cicero, Illinois.
Anthony served in WWII in the Army Air Corps from September 1942 until December 1945. He returned to Lyons, Illinois and worked as a sheet metal worker in the Chicago area. Anthony married
Rose Brancato on June 16, 1943. Anthony was employed by Pullman Sheet Metal Works for 14 years, retiring as a superintendent in 1983. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers’ Union Local #73 of Chicago, Illinois. His wife Rose died on May 9, 1985. In 1991 Anthony moved to Fargo. He married
Jo Doran Bach on June 30, 1993 in Fargo. He was a member of the American Legion Post #2 Fargo, ND. He was also a member of the Saint Anthony of Padua Church Funeral Choir.
Anthony is survived by his wife Jo; a son Anthony (Rosemary), Tucson, AZ; a daughter-in-law Betty Wachala, Fargo, ND; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Anthony was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother and his son Gary.
The funeral service for Anthony will be held in Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Fargo, ND on Wednesday May 5, 2004 at 11:00am. There will be a prayer service at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, on Tuesday May 4 at 7:00 pm with visitation on Tuesday from 4-7 pm and one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Queen of Heaven cemetery, Hillside, Illinois.
Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley or the Father Jack Davis Mission in Peru c/o Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Fargo.

Allen, Charlie

Charles “Charlie” Allen, 53, 1121 2nd Avenue South, Fargo, passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2004, in Bethany Homes, Fargo, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Charlie Allen was born June 20, 1950, in Hillsboro, ND, the son of James and Emma (Henka) Allen. He grew up in Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1968. He attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. He then lived and worked in Hillsboro until moving to Fargo in the late 1980s. He was the night manager at West Acres Bowl for many years, and was employed there until becoming ill.
Charlie had many friends, was an avid science fiction reader, and enjoyed bowling and baseball memorabilia.
He is survived by his parents, James and Emma Allen of Hillsboro; one brother, Dan Allen of Victoria, MN; and one sister, Mary Gray of Boise, ID.
Memorials are preferred to Roger Maris Cancer Center, Fargo.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Hillsboro
Visitation: One hour prior to services in the church on Friday.
Burial: Riverside cemetery, Hillsboro

Jochim, Jerry

Jerry L. Jochim, age 53, Fargo, died Monday, May 3, 2004 in United Hospital, St. Paul, MN.
Jerry Jochim was born September 10, 1950, in Bismarck, ND, the son of Lewis and Arlis (Goll) Jochim. He grew up in the Wing/Regan/Baldwin, ND, area. He graduated from Bismarck High School in 1968. He graduated from Bismarck Junior College in 1969 with an auto mechanics degree. He graduated from Moorhead Technical College in 1971 with a diesel mechanics degree. Jerry was united in marriage to Jean E. Thomsen on June 26, 1970, in Wilton, ND. They made their home in Fargo. He owned and operated South Side Union 76 from 1971-73. He then began work as a driver for McKee Transport in Fargo, later known as Allied Auto based out of St. Paul. He was employed there at the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife, Jean of Fargo; two children, Jason (Teresa) Jochim of Horace, ND, and Jennifer Jochim (Lyle Macziewski) of West Fargo, ND; five grandchildren, Megan, Spencer, Cody, Logan, and Samantha; his mother, Arlis Jochim of Bismarck; his grandfather, Leo Goll of Bismarck; one brother, Larry (Joy) Jochim of Mandan, ND; two sisters, Wanda (Larry) Mallory of Bismarck, and Rhoda (Keith) Badde of Valley City, ND.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Jochim.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.

LaVonne Grant, 1813 Broadway, Fargo, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2004 at Eventide Nursing Home, Moorhead, Minnesota.
LaVonne McGuire was born May 13, 1923, in Breckenridge, Minnesota. She grew up and attended school there, graduating from Breckenridge High School. She continued to live in Breckenridge until the time of her marriage to Ben Holtgrewe. She married
Harry N. Grant in 1962. He preceded her in death in 1999. LaVonne worked at Moorhead State University. She lived in the Fargo-Moorhead area most of her adult life.
LaVonne was very active as a volunteer at the V.A. Hospital and Children’s Village. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Fargo and the Elkettes.
Memorials preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association.
She is survived by her children, Sharon (DuWayne) Price, Lincoln, Montana, and Tom (Jayne) Holtgrewe, Moorhead, Minnesota; stepdaughter, Kathy Grandlund, Fargo; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Gerald (Mickey) McGuire.
Visitation: Saturday from 10-11 a.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo.

Norah Jane Beck, 78, Bethany Towers, Fargo, passed away on May 7, 2004 under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Norah Jane Tollefson was born to Ole and Laura (Johnson) Tollefson on October 10, 1925 at Grygla, Minnesota. She grew up there and finished school in Beltrami County, Minnesota. Norah Jane Tollefson and Alvin Bakken were married
September 3, 1949. Norah and David Beck were married
on June 7, 1971. He preceded her in death in 1993. Norah loved crocheting and quilting. She was a member of the Hefta Post of the Portland, ND, American Legion Auxiliary and the Circles at Aurdal Lutheran Church, Portland, North Dakota
