Lawrence Sand
Lawrence R. Sand, 86, Ellendale, N.D., died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen, S.D. Mr. Sand was born July 22, 1921, on the family homestead near Guelph, N.D., the son of Thor and Lilly (Hoybak) Sand. He grew up and attended country school in the area. He graduated from Ellendale High School in 1939. He attended Ellendale Normal and Industrial College for three years, studying industrial arts and agriculture.
Raymond Wagner
Raymond “Ray” Wagner, 89, Palo Heights, Ill., died March 4, 2008, in Palo Heights. Mr. Wagner was born March 18, 1918, at Alfred, N.D., the son of Gottfried and Pauline Wegner. He served in the Army during 1942 and saw combat in Germany and France. He moved to Palo Heights after his discharge. He was employed as a sheet metal worker on the assembly line at Fort Motor Co., Chicago.
Ernest Duff
Ernest A. Duff, 77, Jamestown, died Saturday, March 22, 2008, at St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure, N.D. Mr. Duff was born July 16, 1930, in Bottineau, N.D., the son of Peter J. and Netti (Wentworth) Duff. He grew up and received his elementary education in the Willow City, N.D., area and graduated from Notre Dame Academy, Willow City.

Katherine Schauer, 98, Bismarck, N.D., formerly of Wishek, N.D., died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Baptist Nursing Home, Bismarck. Katherine Leah Rott was born Jan. 9, 1910, in McIntosh County, North Dakota, the daughter of John G. and Christina (Liebig) Rott. She grew up and graduated from Streeter (N.D.) High School in 1929. She attended Ellendale, N.D., Valley City, N.D., and Bismarck colleges. She worked as a teacher.

Oscar Fuhrman
Oscar T. Fuhrman, 88, of Carrington, N.D., formerly of Bowdon, N.D., died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Golden Acres Manor, Carrington. Mr. Fuhrman was born Jan. 24, 1920, on the Fuhrman family homestead south of Bowdon, the son of George and Charlotte (Schelske) Fuhr-man. He grew up and attended Progress Township country school and graduated from Bowdon High School in 1938. He attended North Dakota State School of Science, Wahpeton, for a short time before returning to the family farm to farm with his father.

Edward Kiernan
Kiernan, Edward “Vic”, baptized into the hope of Christ’s resurrection Wednesday, March 26, 2008. Born Edward Victor Kiernan to Edward Francis and Cecelia (Russell) Kiernan in Jamestown, North Dakota on May 30th, 1926. Growing up in Jamestown Vic ran a trap line, hunted rabbits and upland game. He caught a 20lb Northern at “the Lake” in the mid 70’s. He bought grain for Pillsbury for over 35 years.

Dr. L.A. “Doc” Dunn, 83, Ellendale, N.D., died Sunday, April 6, 2008, at Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls, S.D. Mr. Dunn was born Aug. 20, 1924, on the family homestead in Aurora County, South Dakota, the son of Cecil DeWitt and Mary Lillian (Hanson) Dunn. They moved to Gary, S.D., in 1937.

Jimmy Martin
Jimmy Martin, 75, James-town, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at Jamestown Hospital. Mr. Martin was born Nov. 17, 1932, in Cathay, N.D., the son of John and Laura (Seibold) Martin. He served in the armed forces for two years. He married Rose Barclay in 1981 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown. He worked for Lindberg Brothers, Jamestown, for 16 years. He worked for area contractors and as a janitor at the Elks Club.
Violet Gunst
Violet E. Gunst, 82, James-town, died Monday, April 7, 2008, in Jamestown. Violet Heiden was born Sept. 16, 1925, in Steele, N.D., the daughter of Edward and Edith (Reutter) Heiden. She was baptized and confirmed in Bowdon Lutheran Church, Bowdon, N.D. She attended school in Tappen, N.D. She moved with her family to Heaton, N.D., where she graduated from high school in 1942. She was a bookkeeper for Farmers State Bank, Heaton. She married Jack Gunst on Oct. 20, 1946. They lived on a farm near Emrick, N.D. They moved to Heaton in 1977 where she was postmistress until her retirement in 1994. He died on Nov. 15, 1987. She moved to Jamestown in 1994.
Fred Wanner
Fred Wanner, 86, Custer Highlands, S.D., formerly of Jamestown, died Saturday, March 29, 2008, at his home.
Mr. Wanner was born March 26, 1922, in rural Wishek, N.D., the son of Karl J. and Christine Wanner.
He was baptized and confirmed at Friedensdahl Lutheran Church, Wishek.
He attended rural school and Lisbon High School, Lisbon, N.D.
In 1941 he worked at Consolidated Aircraft Manufacturing Co. in San Diego, Calif.
Frances Nichols
Long-time Jamestown resident Frances Pendray Nichols, 98, died of natural causes on March 26, 2008.
She passed away in Ventura, California, where she had spent the past ten years in the care of her son, Claude. Frances was the last surviving child of Thomas and Georgiana Pendray, who were early North Dakota pioneers.
She was raised on the family farm 7 miles south of Jamestown, and in the early years she attended a small rural school.
Timothy Reberg
Timothy J. Reberg, 48, Bowdon, N.D., died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, in a Carrington (N.D.) hospital.
Mr. Reberg was born Aug. 22, 1959, in Valley City, N.D., the son of Erling and Norlene (Hovel) Reberg.
He grew up on the family farm near Kathryn, N.D.
He attended Hastings (N.D.) Public School and Kathryn Public School, Kathryn.
