Kelty, Rosamond
02/04/2004

Rosamond (Ro) Kelty, age 83, died Wednesday, February 4, 2004 in Bethany Homes, Fargo.

Rosamond (Ro) Kelty, affectionately known as Honey by her family, was born December 29, 1920 in Perham, Minnesota, the daughter of Charles and Gertrude (Hart) Kelty. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Waubun, MN, then to Mahnomen, MN, and Detroit Lakes, MN. She graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1938. After high school, she attended Moorhead State University for one year, and St. Scholastica College in Duluth, MN for one year. She received her degree from the University of Portland, Portland, Oregon.

She joined the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corp during World War II and served in the European Theatre of Operations. After the war, she lived in New York where she worked for the United Nations and later lived in Washington, D.C. where she worked in the Pentagon. She joined the Civil Service and worked with the Army Service Clubs around the world, serving in Korea, Germany, Italy, Okinawa, and Fairbanks, Alaska. She retired in 1984 and moved to Fargo.

She was a charter member of the Women’s National Memorial and her military uniform is on permanent display at the Women’s National Memorial in Arlington National cemetery.

Ro is survived by her nieces and nephews: J. Dennis Nelson, Valley City, ND, Gregory C. (Jane) Nelson, Cormorant Lake, Lake Park, MN, Colleen Fischer, Minneapolis, MN, Mary Beth (Flip) Rush, White Bear Lake, MN and Timothy (Laura) Neitzke, Perham, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Jane Corrine Nelson and Mary Ann Neitzke.

The prayer service will be Friday at 6 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home with visitation from 4-6 p.m. on Friday in Boulger Funeral Home and Saturday in the church one hour before the funeral service. The funeral will be Saturday at 12 noon in St. Mary’s Cathedral. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery, Wadena, MN.

Arrangements are with Boulger Funeral Home.

Larson, Frederick

Frederick L. Larson, age 74, 2201 23rd Avenue S., Fargo, died Tuesday, February 3, 2004, in his home under the care of Hospice.

Frederick L. Larson was born to Karl Frederick and Bertha Mildred (Baker) Larson on August 11, 1929, on a farm in Steele County, near Hope, ND. He grew up and attended school in Luverne, ND. Fred worked on area farms. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on July 8, 1948, and was stationed in San Francisco, CA. He served in the Korean War, and was discharged in 1952. Fred was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. He married Genevieve Burrows on December 31, 1949, in San Francisco. They moved to Sheyenne, ND, where Frederick worked construction as a truck driver for eight years. In 1960, they moved to Fargo. He drove tankers for Dan Duggan and later Matson Tire for two years, and then worked at Firestone Retread Shop. He began working for Fargo Tire in 1955, and remained there until his retirement in 1991.

Fred is a member of the Fargo VFW, Marine Corps Roughrider Detachment #435 and Dog Company Second Battalion 5th Marine Corps.

He is survived by his sons, Donald (Shelly), Barron, WI, Dale (Kim), Fargo, Joseph, Fargo, Mark (Denise), Dilworth, MN, and William, Minneapolis, MN; daughter, Darcy (Dan) Tolbert, Breckenridge, MN; daughters-in-law, Linda Larson, Moorhead, MN, and Jill Larson, Crookston, MN; 13 grandchildren; and one great grandson. He is also survived by three sisters, Corabelle Strelau, Fargo, Althea Ihry, Hope, and Coyla Kunze, Valley City, ND; and one brother, Mike (Susan), Scottsdale, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Genevieve; son, Frederick; sister, Ramona Fugelstad; and brother, Austin.

Funeral: Friday at 2 p.m. in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Fargo

Visitation: Thursday from 5-7 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, and Friday at the church one hour prior to services.

Prayer Service: Thursday at 7 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo

Strang, Sharon

Sharon Strang, 63, Fargo, passed away at Meritcare South University on Sunday, February 1, 2004.

Sharon Siert was born January 12, 1941, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Harold and Anne Siert. She graduated from high school in Chinook, MT. She married Duane Strang in Ramona, SD, in 1962. They settled in Fargo in 1973. She was a member of the F-M Machine Knitters Club and the F-M Quilters’ Guild. She was also very active in her church.

She is preceded in death by her parents and a half-brother.

She is survived by her husband, Duane, Fargo; one sister, Ingrid (Gene) Mellegaard, Parker, SD; four children, Beth (Jason) Larson, Minneapolis, MN, Mike (Michelle) Strang, Moorhead, MN, Kevin (Kimberly) Strang, Longview, WA, and Carrie (Robert) Darrah, Fargo; eight grandchildren, Brooke, Grayce, Matthew, Melanie, Lydia, Brandee, Robert, and Jacob; three half-sisters; and a half-brother.

The funeral will be at St. Paul’s Newman Center, Fargo, at 11:00 a.m. Thursday. There will be a Prayer Service in the Boulger Funeral Home Chapel at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 Wednesday in the funeral home and one hour before the funeral in the Newman Center.

Peterson, Velva

Velva N. Peterson, 95, Fargo, died Sunday, February 1, 2004 in Bethany Homes, Fargo

Velva was born December 19, 1908 to Ed and Christine Hill of Wales, North Dakota. She graduated from Langdon High School and Mayville College. She taught elementary school and chorus for twenty years in North Dakota. She was also a piano teacher and piano tuner for several years.

Velva married Stewart Peterson in June of 1929 and they farmed near Wales, North Dakota. In 1956 she moved to Hillsboro, North Dakota and then settled in Fargo in 1962 after retiring form teaching. She managed the apartment building where she lived. She also worked as a seamstress for Virginia Flora and Richmond’s Clothing in West Acres until 1994. Velva moved to Bethany Homes in 2002.

Velva will be remembered for her warm smile and compassion. She received her greatest joy and satisfaction from helping others.

Velva is survived by two sons, Verle (Sandra) Peterson, Hillsboro, ND; Lannes (Joanne) Peterson, Park River, ND; two daughters, LaVon Peterson, Hockessin, Delaware; Marlene Hanson, Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; one sister, Olive Waltz, Landon, ND; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Stewart, and her husband, Stewart; brother, Elmer Hill; sisters, Edna Hill, Esther Spenst, and Ardyce Feltman.

Munter, Edith

Edith V. Munter, age 90, of Fargo, North Dakota, died on Saturday, January 10, 2004, at her home in Fargo.

Edith was born on August 12, 1913, the daughter of Rhinhart and Alice (Lambert) Gunkel, near Hillsboro, North Dakota. She grew up in this area and attended rural schools. Edith was united in marriage to John R. Munter on September 1, 1939. Edith was a longtime resident of Fargo where she worked as manager for the Kmart #7 grill from 1965 until 1978. She retired briefly, returning to work at St. Luke’s cafeteria, for approximately 3 years. Edith was a member of First Lutheran Church in Fargo as well as a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Edith is survived by her daughter, Pauline (Alec) Murray of Clearwater, Minnesota; her grand cat, “Sammy”; her sister, Eleanor Cornelius of Viking Manor, Ulen, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; her brothers, LeRoy, Harold, Vernon, Carl, Wesley, Edwin; and her sister, Lilas.

VISITATION: 2-7 PM Tuesday and one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday - all at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo

FUNERAL: 1 PM Wednesday at Boulger Funeral Home

BURIAL: In the spring at Salem Lutheran Church cemetery, near Nielsville, Minnesota

Christensen, Jeanne

Jeanne Christensen, age, 54, died Thursday, September 11, 2003, in Innovis Health, Fargo.

Jeanne Kathryn Dahlgren was born in Wahpeton, ND, on August 11, 1949, the daughter of Charles and Rosemary (Gillis) Dahlgren. She grew up and went to school in Wahpeton, graduating from Wahpeton High School. She attended the State School of Science for two years and studied Liberal Arts. She then attended the University of Wisconsin. She worked in Naperville, IL, in the research library at Standard Oil of Indiana. She was married to Dale Christensen on April 5, 1971 in Wahpeton. They moved to Charleston, N.C., and returned to Osnabrock, ND, in 1974. They moved to Wahpeton for two years and then to Fargo in 1978. They have lived here since. Jeanne was a child care provider, and also worked at the Doublewood Inn and Pallisis Furniture, then Marvin Windows from 1995 until her illness.

She is survived by her husband, Dale, Fargo; two daughters, Jessica (Timothy) Liddle, Fargo, and Denise (Corey) Ryberg, Mapleton, ND; and three granddaughters, Mikayla, Tiffany, and Kiara. She is also survived by her mother, Rosemary, Wahpeton; one sister, Betty Krump, Wahpeton; and three brothers, Jay (Cindy), Grand Forks, Robin (Karen), Wahpeton, and Timothy (Heidi), Rochester, MN.

She is preceded in death by her father, one sister, and one brother.

Funeral Mass will be 12:00 Tuesday in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Fargo. Visitation will be held Monday from 5-8 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Visitation will also be held Tuesday in the church one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery, Fargo.

Lahren, Daryl

Daryl Joseph Lahren, 47, Fargo, ND died June 25, 2009 at Kindred, ND.

Daryl Lahren was born July 22, 1961 in Fargo to Joseph and Marcella (Tuma) Lahren. He attended school in Kindred, ND and graduated from Kindred High School in 1979. He then attended NDSU and graduated from there in 1983. In January of 1984 he started work at Kindred State Bank and has worked there since. He was the Vice President of Kindred State Bank. Daryl Lahren married Michelle Peterson at Langdon, ND on October 23, 1993. The couple made their home in Fargo.

He was active with the Kindred Ambulance serving as its president.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle, at home, 2 daughters, Brenna Michelle and Mara Jean at home; one sister, Jeanie (Steve) Washa, Shakopee, MN; aunt, Ruth Novotny of Lidgerwood, ND; Uncle, Bud (Carol) Lahren, Kindred, ND; father-in-law, Gary Peterson and mother-in-law, Barb Peterson of Langdon; one niece, Paige Peterson, Langdon, ND; sister-in-law, Kari Peterson, Langdon, ND; brother-in-law, Scott (Lori) Peterson, Langdon, ND.

Preceded by infant son, Nicolai William Lahren October 5, 1994; parents, Joseph and Marcella Lahren;D grandparents, Ben and Amy Lahren, and Albert and Anna Tuma; one cousin, Randy Lahren.

Funeral will be on Wednesday 11:00 A.M. Atonement Lutheran Church, Fargo. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Atonement with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Atonement.

Tupa, Ann

Ann Tupa, age 88, Fargo, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2005, in Villa Maria, Fargo.

Ann Josephine Kubesh was born at Vesleyville, ND, on August 7, 1916. She grew up on the farm outside of Vesleyville, and attended St. Aloysius School at Oakwood, ND. Ann married Edward R. Tupa on June 14, 1939, at Vesleyville, ND.

They lived on a farm near Larimore, ND, for a number of years before moving to Minto, ND. They returned to Larimore in 1958.

Ann worked at the Grand Forks County Home in Larimore before joining the Johnson Store headquarters as distribution clerk/assistant manager.

She worked at the Johnson Store headquarters from 1961 to 1980. Mr. Tupa passed away in 1980. In 1986, she came to Fargo.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister, Amelia.

She is survived by her children, Edward R. (Sandy) Tupa, Fargo, George L. (Lonnie) Tupa, Leavenworth, KS, Tom C. (Mary) Tupa, Bismarck, ND, Ron D. (Kathy) Tupa, Detroit, MI, and Carol A. (Kevin) Malley, Omaha, NE; two brothers, Frank Kubesh, Grafton, ND, and Lewis (Lorraine) Kubesh, Cudahy, WI; three sisters, Julia Schanilec, Grafton, ND, Angela Jarolimek, Fargo, and Sr. Mary Beth Kubesh, Omaha, NE; 26 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.

Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 10:00 AM in St. Mary=s Cathedral, Fargo. The Catholic Daughters will recite the rosary Friday at 6:45 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 PM in the funeral home, and in the church on Saturday one hour prior to services.
