Agnes Graf

Agnes Hoffart was born December 11, 1921, in Hazen, ND, to Jacob and Margaret (Usselman) Hoffart. She grew up on a farm in Mercer County and attended country school there. As a young woman, Agnes worked as a housekeeper for area farmers.

Agnes moved to Bismarck, ND, and worked as a waitress at the Patterson Hotel where she met her beloved husband, David Graf. They were married on September 5, 1943, in Hazen. They made their home in Bismarck for one year and then moved to Dilworth, MN.

Agnes lovingly raised their three children, James, Gerald and Debra. She also worked for the Americana Nursing Home, Moorhead, MN, for several years as a kitchen aid. She retired in 1980.

David died on May 19, 1996, and Agnes continued to make her home in Dilworth.

Agnes died on Thursday, February 10, 2005, in The Evergreens, Moorhead, at the age of 83.

Agnes was a long-time member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Dilworth. She loved to play cards and was an avid gardener. She particularly loved flowers.

Agnes is survived by a son, Gerald and his wife, Jill, of The Dalles, OR; a daughter, Debra Hertz and her husband, Dareld, of Bismarck; a brother, Elias Hoffart and his wife, Marilyn, of Moorhead; two grandchildren, Deanna Snell and her husband, Jay, of Green Bay, WI, and Heidi Graf of Dexter, MN; two great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Sally Wagner, Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, James; four brothers, and two sisters.

Visitation: Sunday, February 13, 2005, from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Funeral Mass: Monday, February 14, 2005, at 10 AM, St Elizabeth Catholic Church, Dilworth.

Interment: St. Joseph’s Catholic cemetery, Moorhead.

Charles R. Friese

Charles Richard Friese was born in Fargo, North Dakota on February 22, 1919 and died in Fargo on April 27, 2005.

After Charles graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1937, he delivered groceries by bicycle for two years in order to save enough money to start his studies at NDAC in 1939. He graduated with a BS degree 1943 and a Master of Science degree (math education) in 1958. He was the principal and math-science teacher at Ulen, Minnesota from 1944-1946, followed by thirty years working as a professor of math at NDSU, where he especially enjoyed working with - inspiring and being inspired by - the young people.

He never met a stranger and often repeated that a “stranger is simply a friend you haven’t yet met.” He stressed repeatedly that if you can’t think of what to say to another person, ask them about themselves because “everyone loves to talk about themselves!” He was especially pleased by being selected by the Fargo Forum as a “Prairie Rose.”

Charles was active in the American Lutheran Church most of his life and in Calvary Methodist Church after his marriage. He was the Past Master of the Sunrise Lodge #130, York Rite, a member of the Elks, Moose and Eagles Lodges. He was active in the Fargo Sons of Norway, which is where he met Rhea Gutknecht Scherer whom he married when he was 71. His years with her were the happiest ten years of his life. Together they danced and traveled to Norway and many other places.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rhea; his parents, Laura Ovidia Odegard Friese (8-7-1881 to 7-19-1967) and his father, Emil Albert Friese (4-13-1884 to 2-16-1968), and his siblings, George Franklin Friese, Helen Louise Friese Jondahl, and John Albert Friese. He is survived by his brothers, Harold (Fran) Friese and Robert (Pam), sister-in-law, Dorothy Friese; nieces, Sally, Nancy and Laurie; grandnieces and nephews; stepsons, Tim (Sharon), Ardis (Eldora), David (Cathy), Monte (Diane); and twelve stepgrandchildren and twelve stepgreat-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for today, Friday, April 29, 2005, at 2 PM in the chapel at his place of residence, Riverview Place, 5300 12th Street South, Fargo.

Chase T. Freier

Chase Taylor Freier was born and died Friday, July 29, 2005 in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Chase is survived by his parents, Nicole and Lance Freier, Gardner, ND; a brother, Job, at home; grandparents, LeRoy and Betty Ehlert, Breckenridge, MN, and Terry and Sara Lee Freier, Detroit Lakes, MN; and great-grandparents, Hilda Kuehn, Milnor, ND, Henrietta Ehlert, Breckenridge, and Bonnie and Jim Inman, Ukiah, CA.

Funeral service: Wednesday, August 3, 2005, at 10 AM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN.

Burial: Riverside cemetery, Fargo.

Ross "R.D." Fox

Ross D. Fox, 51, Fargo, ND, was found Sunday, July 31, 2005, in the Red River, Moorhead, MN.

Ross Duncan Fox, known to his family and friends as “R.D.”, was born February 21, 1954, in Fargo, to Clarence and Thelma (Frey) Fox. R.D. was raised and educated in Moorhead.

R.D. entered the US Coast Guard, in Petaluma, CA, in 1974. He served on a Coast Guard cutter in New York City and in Florida. He met his wife, Sally, who also served in the Coast Guard. Following his discharge in 1978, R.D. received further training and worked with heavy equipment in Florida.

R.D. served as a firefighter with the Fargo Fire Department from 1981 until the early 1990’s. He then worked on a shrimp boat as a commercial fisherman in Alaska. R.D. returned to live in Fargo where he worked in various occupations.

R.D. is survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma.

Visitation: Friday, August 5, 2005; one hour before the funeral.

Funeral: Friday, August 5, 2005; 2 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Burial: Riverside cemetery; Glyndon, MN.

John L. Fernholz

John L. Fernholz, 48, Fargo, ND, died Saturday, December 17, 2005, in his home.

John Louis Fernholz, son of William and Eunice (Matter) Fernholz, was born September 16, 1957, in Minneapolis, MN. He grew up and graduated from high school in Detroit Lakes, MN, and later from Moorhead State University (MN) with a degree in business administration.

John was united in marriage to Betsy Hotz, June 16, 1979, in St. Cloud, MN. The couple made their home in Moorhead. John worked in sales/management at American Linen, Honeywell, Thom Linen and Gates, Inc., all Fargo.

In addition to his wife, Betsy, John is survived by two sons, Nicholas, Rochester, MN, and Matthew, Moorhead; one daughter, Kristin, Moorhead; his father, Merlin Fernholz, Cottonwood, MN; three sisters, Suzanne (Ed) Willman, Cottonwood, Theresa (Ken) Nagel, Huntingtown, MD, and Mary (Randy) Johnson, Moorhead; and one brother, David (Lee) Fernholz, Colorado Springs, CO. John was preceded in death by his mother, Eunice Fernholz.

VISITATION: Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005 – 4 PM to 6 PM, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead, with a prayer service at 6 PM.

FUNERAL MASS: Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005 – 2 PM, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.

INTERMENT: St. Joseph’s Catholic cemetery, Moorhead, MN.

Victor Faszholz

Victor Milton Faszholz was born January 5, 1946, in Stuttgart, Arkansas, to Oliver and Ruth (Dinger) Faszholz. After graduating from high school in Beemer, NE, in 1964, Victor moved to Seward, NE, where he graduated from Concordia College.

On June 21, 1969, Victor married Laurelyn Jourdan, in Omaha, NE. In 1973 the couple moved to Fargo, ND, where he worked at various jobs. In December of 1976, Victor began his twenty-nine years of employment at Richtman’s Press Club, Fargo. At the time of his death, he was an estimator. In 1979, they moved to the Hawley area where they made their home and raised their family. Victor was a godly man who served the Lord with all his heart. He was characterized as a man of prayer and prayed for his family every day. He was also extremely involved with his church as a deacon and loved music, especially the Gaithers and organ music. Victor truly loved playing with his grandchildren, tinkering with toy trains, and spending summers at Bad Medicine Lake, MN. He will be greatly missed by family and friends who look forward to joining him someday singing praises on the heavenly streets of gold.

Victor M. Faszholz, 59, died Friday, April 22, 2005, at his home.

Victor is survived by his wife, Laurelyn, Hawley; three daughters, Allana (Bill) Rudd, Hawley, Amy (Barry) Seidel, Fergus Falls, MN, and Angela (Ryan) Rothwell, Big Lake, MN; two sons, Bret (Meredith) Morrison, Castle Rock, CO, and Alan (Allison) Faszholz, Fargo; seventeen grandchildren, Raina (Corey) Askin, Danielle (Troy) Gibbens, Melanie, Jourdan, Rheannah, Ree’an, Ijada, and Gabriel Rudd, Braden and Gavin Morrison, Travis, Trevor, Rachel, and Mariah Seidel, Annamarie Faszholz, and Noah and Zachariah Rothwell; one great-grandchild, Logan Askin; two sisters, JoAnne Smith, Council Bluffs, IA, and Eunice Brundieck, Omaha, NE; and one brother, Walt Faszholz, also Omaha.

Visitation for Victor will be Monday, April 25, 2005, from 4 - 8 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. The funeral will be Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at 2 PM, in Spirit and Life Center, rural Hawley, MN. Burial will follow in Spirit and Life cemetery.

Katherine E. Swanson

Katherine “Katie” E. Swanson was born August 25, 1926, in Fargo, ND, to Lorentz and Ellen (Wold) Hegland. She lived in Fargo and attended Fargo schools, until age 16, when they moved to Omaha, NE, where she graduated from Omaha Technical High School. Katie worked as a comtometer operator at the Fairmont Creamery main office for a year and at Brandeis Department Store until she moved from Omaha. During World War II, she worked in Detroit, MI for the IRS and worked for that agency when she returned to Fargo.

On June 26, 1948, Katherine was married to Earl G. Swanson in Moorhead, MN. They have lived in the Fargo-Moorhead area since that time. Besides raising her family, Katie worked at a hatchery and most recently had been employed by Clay County Social Services. Katie has been a lifelong member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Moorhead, and the Moorhead VFW Auxiliary. Mr. Swanson died December 26, 1991.

Katherine has been a resident at Rosewood on Broadway since January of this year and died there on December 8, 2005, at the age of 79 years.

Her family includes a son, Jerome (Margaret) Swanson of St. Paul, MN, three daughters, Veronica (Bradley) Nelson of Wolverton, MN, Cynthia Swanson of Moorhead, and Cheryl (Martin) Olson of Moorhead; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Hanson of Twin Falls, ID; a brother, Loren (Marjorie) Hegland of Apple Valley, MN, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl; daughter, Linda Swanson; and granddaughter, Donna Swanson.

Visitation: Monday, December 12, 2005, from 5 - 8 pm with a prayer service at 7 PM in Korsmo Funeral Service.

Funeral Service: Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at 2 PM in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead.

Interment: Riverside cemetery, Moorhead.

Arlitte Swenson

Arlitte Rae Marie Swenson, 61, Christine, ND, was called to be with the Lord, Friday, January 28, 2005, in her home, under hospice care. She fought a courageous battle with multiple myeloma cancer for twenty-eight months.

Arlitte was born March 27, 1943, in New Rockford, ND, to Roy and Beatrice (Dyrud) Rasmussen. Arlitte was raised in rural McHenry, ND, and graduated from Oak Grove Lutheran High School, Fargo, ND, in 1961.

She continued her education and graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing, Fargo, in 1965. Arlitte worked as a registered nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St. Luke’s Hospital (now MeritCare Hospital) for thirty-eight years. Due to health issues, Arlitte retired in 2003.

Arlitte married Allan P. Swenson, May 8, 1965, in rural Tolna, ND, and they made their home near Christine, ND.

Arlitte is survived by her husband of forty years, Allan; a daughter, Michelle (Todd) Grieger, Fargo; a son, Matthew (Amanda), St. Cloud, MN; three grandchildren, Ryan Grieger, and Vienna and Chenoa Swenson; two brothers, Rick (Carolyn) Rasmussen, Monticello, MN, and Jim (Jane) Rasmussen, Maple Grove, MN; and twelve nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Tuesday, February 1, 2005; 5 – 7 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Prayer Service: Tuesday, February 1, 2005, at 7 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Funeral: Wednesday, February 2, 2005 – 1 PM in St. Paul’s Free Lutheran Church, 1603 - 5th St. N., Fargo.
