She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jake; son-in-law, Jim Raisanen; sisters, Cecilia Allen and Anita Emic; brother, Edward Hoffner.

Ervin G. Kjelden
Ervin G. Kjelden, 84, of rural Devils Lake, ND died on Friday afternoon, Dec. 10, 2004 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Harold Ovre will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake cemetery. Music will be provided by Kensi Kjelden, soloist and Lynda Pearson, organist. Reflections of Remembrance will be provided by Breeun Palmer and Bonnie Klein.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel today from 1-9 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Visitation on Tuesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Kjelden, Shane Palmer, Josh Nelson, Justin Nelson, Joey Nelson, Jarret Peters, Kent Onerheim, Ronald Kjelden and Vincent Anderson
Ervin Kjelden was born Sep. 3, 1920 on the family farm at rural Wolford, ND, the son of Peter and Alphel (Holien) Kjelden. He was reared and educated in the Wolford area attending the Scotch Block School. He worked on his parents farm and at various other jobs in the area. Ervin was united in marriage to Vida Avens and they established their home on a farm in rural Wolford for a short time. In 1944, they moved to the farm east of Devils Lake. This is where Ervin spent his entire life farming and helping to raise their ten children. Vida passed away on Dec. 22, 1974.
Ervin was always interested in learning more about farming and attended the Adult Farm Management Classes, taught by Carl Roberts, at Lake Region Junior College for many years. Ervin married
Alma Nokleby Guffy in 1980 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. They enjoyed music and dancing and spent many winters in Mesa, AZ, and traveling around the United States visiting the children.
Ervin served on the South Minnewaukan Township School Board and was also an officer and chairman of the South Minnewaukan Township Board for many years. He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, the Devils Lake Rural Fire Department, the Elks and Eagles Lodges and the IOOF (Independent Order of Odd Fellows) Lodge.
Ervin had many musical talents and in his younger years played the violin, harmonica, organ and guitar. He played his guitar even into his 80's.
The most important part of Ervin's life was spending time on his farm with his beloved wife, Alma, his family and friends.
Ervin is survived by his wife, Alma of rural Devils Lake; children, Patricia (John) Anderson, Tolna, ND, Linda (Leonard) Peters, Devils Lake, Douglas (Sandy) Kjelden, Burnsville, MN, Garry (Eunice) Kjelden, West Fargo, ND, Alfred (Deborah) Kjelden, Forman, ND, Bruce (Diane) Kjelden, West Fargo, Sandra Stiley, LaSalle, Colo., Coralie (James) Nelson, Jr., Beulah, ND, Bonnie (Larry) Klein, Green River, Wyo., and Gilbert (Paulette) Kjelden, Devils Lake; step-children: Janice (Don) Onerheim, Devils Lake, Shirley (Sheldon) Vincent, also Devils Lake, Sharon (Richard) Halvorson, Great Falls, Mont., Sylvia (Aaron) Alan, Fergus Falls, MN, Gordon (Mary) Guffy, Great Falls, Mont., and Terry (Isabel) Guffy, Yuma, Ariz.; 30 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 13 step -grandchildren; and 27 step-great-grandchildren.
Ervin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vida; one granddaughter; step-son, Jerry Guffy; brothers, Arnold and Palmer Kjelden; sisters, Mrs. Cora (Merle) Horner and Mrs. Ida (George) Lange.

Brian Ray Loken
Brian Ray Loken, 45, of Bowman, ND, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004 in a work-related accident.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Bowman Lutheran Church, Bowman, with the Rev. Galen Strand officiating. Burial will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Westhope cemetery, Westhope, ND. Organist will be Syneva Arithson and soloist will be Holly Seifert.
A family service will be held tonight at 7 p.m. at the Krebsbach Funeral Service Chapel in Bowman.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Anderson, Olen Hagen, Kenny Arden, Mark Bell, Kenny Farden and Bruce Georgeson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brian's co-workers, friends and neighbors.
Brian Ray Loken was born June 15, 1959 at Maddock Memorial Hospital in Maddock, ND, the son of Raymond Sandford and Donna Lois (Bell) Loken. He was reared in Maddock and receiving his education in the Maddock School System, graduating from Maddock High School in 1978. He then went to work as a farm hand for John Rasmaus for a short time before moving to Denver, Colo., where he worked for a construction company. He then moved back to Maddock, where he married
Roxane Schneider on Aug. 9, 1980 at Maddock Lutheran Church. To this union, two children were born, Mitchell Ray "Mitch" on Aug. 29, 1982 and Christa Michelle on April 27, 1986.
They made their home in Westhope, ND, where Brian worked for Hams Well Service. In 1980, he began driving truck for Matador Service in Westhope, which later became Koch Industries, where he became manager in the mid-1990's. Brian and Roxane then owned and operated High Country Trucking from 1994 to 1996 in Westhope and Bowman. The family moved to Bowman in December of 1995. Brian went to work as District Manager for Koch Industries, which later became Plains All American (Plains Marketing). Brian fulfilled a life-long dream when he and his family established Golden Prairie Winery in 2002 in Bowman and celebrated their grand opening on Nov. 20, 2004.
Brian was a member of Bowman Lutheran Church and a former member of Westhope Trinity Lutheran Church, Westhope, and the North Viking Lutheran Church, Maddock. He was also a member of Couples Bowling, the Westhope Fire Department and the Westhope Ambulance Service, where he proudly earned his stork pin for assisting in a delivery of a baby on the ambulance.
He enjoyed camping, NASCAR, motorcycles, carpentry work, watching movies and collecting Harleys, NASCARs and ships. He cherished the opportunity to rebuild a 1970 Ford Mustang with his son, Mitch. He cherished the time he spent with his little girl Christa and loved to ride horse with her and enjoyed watching her rodeo. He was a devoted husband, father and friend.
He was a hard-working man who took great pride in everything he accomplished. His family was his greatest joy in life. He loved family get-togethers and cherished every moment that he was able to spend with his family. He loved to cook pancakes for his special friend, his dog Charlie. He had a heart of gold and his smile could lighten up a room. Brian was a man who will never be forgotten and will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Roxanne Loken of Bowman; son, Mitchell Ray "Mitch" Loken, Dickinson, ND; daughter, Christa Michelle Loken, Dickinson, ND; sisters, Teresa (Roger) Nielsen, Westhope, and Penny (Donald) Evans, Fort Wayne, Ind.; brothers, James (Kristy) Loken, Arvilla, ND and Kurtis (Brenda) Loken, Los Altos, Calif.; maternal grandmother, Thora Hagen, Fargo, ND; mother-in-law, Betty Crews, Tipton, Mo.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Tracy and Ronnie Stoddard, Rockaway Beach, Mo., and Betty Lou Lindsey, Tipton, Mo.; nieces, Lisa Nielsen Handeland, Heather Vanderhoef, Melissa Nielsen, Taylor Evans, Audrey Loken and Michelle Stoddard; nephews, John Roeder, Sean Loken and Matthew Stoddard; great-niece, Adleigh Handeland; numerous cousins; and his dog, Charlie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Donna Loken; maternal grandfather, Francis Bell; paternal grandparents, Gabriel and Lisa Loken; and his father-in-law, Gerald Crews.

Henry F. Vetsch
Henry F. Vetsch, 64, of Brookings, SD, formerly of Esmond and Devils Lake, ND, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004 at his son's home in Canistota, SD, surrounded by his family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond with Fr. Julian Kupisz officiating. Burial will be in St. Ann's Catholic cemetery at Fillmore, ND.
Visitation will be Tuesday at the Nelson Funeral Home in Esmond and after 6:30 p.m. in the church where there will be a 7 p.m. Rosary and Vigil . Visitation will continue on Wednesday at the church for an hour before the Mass.

Vernon E. Galow, 76, of Bisbee, ND died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004 at Presentation Medical Center of Rolla, ND.
Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Bisbee Lutheran Church of Bisbee. Officiating will be Rev. Gayler and Rev. Sharon Korsmo. Interment will be in Bisbee Lutheran cemetery, Bisbee.

Albert Nelson, 93, of Bisbee, ND died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004 at his farm home near Bisbee.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home with Rev. Gayler and Rev. Sharon Korsmo officiating. Music will be provided by Merrill Womach. Interment will be at the Bisbee Lutheran cemetery, Bisbee.
Visitation will be held today from 2-8 p.m. and for one hour before services on Tuesday, all at Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home, Cando.

Margie Held, 58, of Cando, ND, formerly of Rock Lake, ND died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004 at Towner County Medical Center of Cando.

John "Jack" W. Crawford
John "Jack" W. Crawford, 78, a long-time Devils Lake businessman, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, MN, surrounded by his family.
A Memorial service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Devils Lake. Pastor Kevin Kaufmann will officiate. A private burial service for relatives will be held at the Devils Lake cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, on Sunday from 5-7 p.m.
Jack was born July 28, 1926 in Calvin, ND, the son of William and Myrtle (McSherry) Crawford. He attended school in Calvin where he graduated in June of 1944. Following graduation, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served active duty as a sonar sound specialist for eleven months in the Pacific Ocean. On November 4, 1944, Jack married
Finella McLean in San Diego, CA. Following Jack's honorable discharge in 1946, he entered the University of North Dakota where he attended school for two years. In 1948, Jack and Finella moved to Devils Lake where he went to work for the Buick Garage for twelve years. In 1960, Jack joined Bob Storman in purchasing a used car dealership and, following his entrepreneurial spirit in 1963, Jack purchased the dealership and changed its name to Suburban Sales. After six years, Jack sold the business and went to manage Lake Supply for one year.
In 1969, Jack purchased the Harry McHughes car dealership and subsequently changed its name to Dodge Towne, Inc. Jack successfully owned and operated the business for fifteen years at its downtown location. In 1984, Jack purchased Ramsey Motors and merged the two businesses, combining Dodge, Chrysler, and Plymouth products for what is now known as the Devils Lake Chrysler Center. Jack owned this dealership until 1991 when he sold the business to his son, Hal, and retired. Jack worked on the city planning committee for five years, served as a trustee and elder of the First Presbyterian Church, and volunteered as a Boy Scout leader.
Jack was a member of the Elk's Lodge, VFW, and past member of the North Dakota Auto Dealers Association. Jack also enjoyed the adventure of developing real estate having built several homes in town and at the lake and seven town homes, one of which he and Finella retired to. Jack had a zeal for travel as he and Finella loved the sunshine and the ocean. Their winters took them to Hawaii and Texas while other trips included time in New Zealand, Australia, Scotland and Europe.
Jack enjoyed boating having captained his vessel, the "Bonnie Jean", down the Mississippi, navigated Lake Superior, and cruised about Devils Lake where they spent time at their lake cabin. Jack also loved his garden. Jack was the centerpiece of his family as a husband, father, and grandfather.
Jack is survived by the love of his life of 60 years, Finella; son, Hal (Patty) Crawford, Devils Lake; daughters, Deborah Sanderson, Minnetrista, MN and Babbie (Terry) Brenner, Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Nick and Calvin Crawford; Mallory and Meghan Sanderson; brother, Robert (Carol) Crawford, West Fargo, ND; sister, Lillian Teske, Electric City, WA; brother-in-law, Gordon (Donna) McLean, Hot Springs Village, Ark.; sister-in-law, Helen Crawford, Fargo, ND; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Paula; brothers, Kenneth and Donald Crawford; sisters, Mildred, Wilma, Ruby and Lois.

Delores "Del" McCanna
Delores "Del" McCanna, 77, of rural Crary, ND, died on Monday, Dec. 13, 2004 at the Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Today, Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. C. F. Wilhelm will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery, Devils Lake. Reading of the scriptures will be Michelle Benson and Don Axtman. Gift bearers will be Brittany Cudworth and Jacob Brewer.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, on Thursday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m.
Delores Wagner was born July 2, 1927 at Plaza, ND, the daughter of Casper and Anna (Ehlen) Wagner. In 1931, she moved with her family to a farm at rural Crary, ND where she was raised and educated. Del graduated from Crary High School in the class of 1945. Del was united in marriage to Jay McCanna on Dec. 23, 1946 at Fargo, ND. They lived in several southwestern states as Jay traveled with the State Highway Department. In 1951 they returned to the Devils Lake area where Del continued to make her home through the years. While living in Devils Lake, Del held various jobs including working as a telephone operator and waitress in several area restaurants including the Two Spot and the Hamburger Host which she purchased in 1964 and changed the name to Del's Drive-In. After many years as the owner and operator of Del's, she retired in 1998. Jay McCanna died on Sept. 29, 1967.
Del was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and also bowled with the Devils Lake Woman's Bowling League for many years. Del always enjoyed the dances at the VFW Club and Del's love was just being around people and making sure they were always well fed. Del especially lived by that motto when it came to her family. Every Sunday was like Thanksgiving Day at her house. She always had plenty of delicious food, anyone from the family was always welcome and you never left without taking some of the leftovers home.
Del is survived by her children, Earl "Sonny" (Debbie) of Fargo, ND; Kathy Benson, Grand Forks, ND; and Micky (Maria) McCanna, Devils Lake; grandchildren, Jeff McCanna, John McCanna, Matt McCanna and Amy Franklin; Tracy Brewer, Lorrie Benson, Michelle Benson and Melissa Benson; Jasmine McCanna and Jay McCanna; 14 great-grandchildren; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; brother, Alphonsus (Rita) Wagner, rural Devils Lake; sister, Ilene Lee, also Devils Lake; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Del was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jay; brothers, James Wagner and an infant brother, Arthur; and special friend, Cecil Kouba.
