Shanika Jade Welch, of Fort Totten, ND, daughter of Crystal R. Welch and Derek Longie was born and died on Feb. 9, 2004 at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Services were held Saturday, February 14, 2004 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, St. Michael and burial was in St. Michael's Catholic cemetery.
Shanika is survived by her parents of Fort Totten; grandfather, Dallas Welch Sr., Fort Totten; step-grandmother, Terry Longie, Fort Totten; grandmother, Tana Youngman, Poplar, MT; great-grandmother, Frances Welch, Devils Lake; great-grandfather, Roger Nordrum, Devils Lake; great-grandmother, Linda Alberts, Fort Totten; great-grandfather, William N. Pat Allen Stein
Pat Allen Stein, 34, of Devils Lake, ND, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.
His funeral service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Harold Ovre will officiate and burial will take place later in the spring. Music will be provided by Tom Wade, soloist and Lynda Pearson, organist.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home today from 12-9 p.m. with a family service at 8 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Miller, Tracy Wren, Chad Christianson, Toby Hoffner, Jeff Dosch, Donovan Olson, Dan Leach and everyone that knew and loved Pat.
Pat Allen Stein was born March 12, 1969 in Devils Lake, ND. He was reared in Devils Lake attending Devils Lake Schools. He graduated from Red River High School in Grand Forks in 1988. Pat was on the hockey team with Red River High School when they took the State Championship in 1988.
He was now employed with the Miller Roofing Company in Devils Lake.
His hobbies were fishing, outdoor activities and the sport of hockey.
He is survived by his parents, Yvonne and Roger Knutson of Devils Lake and Allen Stein of New Rockford, ND; daughter, Jessica Benson of Grand Forks, ND; brothers, Lonnie (Bonnie) Stein of Prior Lake, MN and Steve Knutson of Bloomington, MN; sister, Stacie (Tom) Wade of Devils Lake; step-sister, Angela Knutson of Hayward, CA; grandparents, Earl and Ruby Howes of Devils Lake; uncles, Dean (Dona) Howes and Jerry (Clarice) Stein; aunts, Karen (Darryl) Dolan, Mavis (Lloyd) Stromme and Loy (Gerald) Stutrud; nieces, Kara Stein, Mackenzie, Taylor and Amy Wade; nephews, Andrew, Kellen and Christopher Stein; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Pete and Ella Stein, Aunt Louise Anderson and uncle Dale Howes.

Daniel L. Bergsrud
Daniel L. Bergsrud, 56, of Grafton, ND, died Friday, April 2, 2004 at Atlru Hospital in Grand Forks.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond with Fr. Julian Kupisz, celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Music will be from Mary Hall, organist and soloist.
Visitation will be Tuesday at the church an hour before the Mass.
Casket bearers will be his nieces and nephews, Brett and Shane Leben, Corey, Ceara and Chantell Bergsrud, Chase and Courtney Freidig, Tyler Bergsrud, Lance and Jordan Jungers.
Daniel Lee Bergsrud was born August 27, 1947, at Memorial Hospital in Maddock, ND, to A. Marvin and Irene (Sander) Bergsrud. He was reared and educated at Esmond, ND. On March 3, 1961, at the age of 13, he became a resident at the Developmental Center in Grafton, ND. Danny moved to Devils Lake on March 16, 1987. He lived in several isalas and group homes in Devils Lake, New Rockford and Grand Forks. Danny returned to the Developmental Center in Grafton on February 15, 1995, where he lived until his death.
Danny was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond. He was a very social person and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Danny enjoyed watching wrestling, especially the 'undertaker'. He also liked sunglasses and red shirts.
He is survived by his siblings, Sheila (Brad) Leben of Devils Lake, Dale (Marilyn) Bergsrud of Devils Lake, Gary (Brenda) Bergsrud of Rolla, Janet (Lane) Jungers of Littleton, CO, Robin (Al) Freidig of Devils Lake and Scott Bergsrud of Ocala, FL; nieces and nephews, Brett and Shane Leben, Corey, Ceara and Chantell Bergsrud, Chase and Courtney Freidig, Tyler Bergsrud, Lance and Jordan Jungers; aunts, Delores Wolfe and Florence Johansen, both of Devils Lake and uncles, Victor Sander of Esmond and James Sander of Jamestown and a number of cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, aunt and uncle, Laura and Paul Melin.

A. Bernice Miller, 91 of Devils Lake formerly of Crary, ND died on Sunday, April 4, 2004 at the Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Donald Reynolds will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday from 12-9 p.m. and Wednesday at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Frank LaMonica, 54, of Cedar Park, TX, the husband of Arleen LaMonica, formerly of Sheyenne, ND, died Friday, April 1, 2004 in Texas, following an illness.

Henry Gleason
Henry Gleason, 87, of McVille, ND, formerly of rural Hamar, ND, died Thursday, April 1, 2004 at the Nelson County Health System - Care Center of McVille.
Funeral services were held today at 10 a.m. in the Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home of McVille. Interment will be in the spring at Sigdal cemetery of rural Hamar, ND.
Henry was born July 4, 1916 on the family farm in rural Hamar, to Kasper and Pernilla (Nabben) Gleason. He was raised and educated in rural Hamar at Anderson #3. He continued to stay on the farm and help with the family farm. In 1935, he attended the "Citizens Military Training Camp" at Ft. Lincoln, ND. He was invited by the Secretary of War to participate in a rifle competition in Ohio. Henry finished very high in the competition and received a medal for his efforts. He later joined the Civilian Conservation Corps for one year. Henry became a resident at the Nelson County Health System - Care Center in October of 2002.
He is survived by his brother Edward Gleason of McVille, one sister; Inga Hettervig of Kent, WA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Peter, Kai, Joseph, Leif and Phillip; and two sisters, Gina Eiene and Agnes Pederson.

Marlin A. Torgerson
Marlin A. Torgerson, 71, of Bismarck, ND, formerly of Leeds, ND, died Sunday, April 4, 2004 at St. Alexis Hospital in Bismarck.
Memorial services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Lebanon Free Lutheran Church in Leeds with Pastor Brenda Burns officiating. Interment will be in the Lebanon cemetery near Brinsmade, ND.
Visitation will be Thursday at the church an hour before the service.

Avis M. (DuBois) Littlewind, 14, of Crow Hill, rural Ft. Totten, ND, died Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at her home.
Funeral services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the Crow Hill Recreation Center, rural Ft. Totten with Fr Charles Leute, O.P. and Deacon Tony McDonald officiating. Burial will be in St. Jerome's Catholic cemetery rural Ft. Totten.
A Wake and Rosary will be held Sunday at the Crow Hill Recreation Center, beginning at 5 p.m. with the Rosary and Prayer Service at 8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Casey Thomas, Ambrose Littlewind, Jr., Bruce Littlewind, Mitchell Shaw, John Littlewind and Troy Woods.

Avis Marie (DuBois) Littlewind was born Sept. 8, 1989 at home in Ft. Totten, the daughter of John Allen DuBois and Lavina M. Littlewind. She was an enrolled member of the Spirit Lake Tribe and was also enrolled in the 7th Grade at Four Winds Middle School.
She enjoyed riding horses, listening to music, spending time with her family and cousins, playing basketball and especially grooming her animals.
She is survived by her mother, Lavina M. Littlewind, rural Ft. Totten; father, John Allen DuBois of Jamestown, ND; brothers, John Littlewind and Duane Littlewind of rural Ft. Totten; sisters, Johanna DuBois and LeAnn Jetty of rural Ft. Totten; grandmother, Violet DuBois of Devils Lake; special cousin, Mitchell Shaw; special niece, Emma Rae Dunn; special aunts, Carmen Littlewind and Hopsty DuBois; special friend, Mary Longie; aunts: Delphine Cavanaugh, Emma Littlewind, Germaine Littlewind, Violet Robertson, Mary Robertson, Audrey Greywater and Grace Thumb; uncles, Ambrose Littlewind, Jr., Calvin Dunn, Louie DuBois and Clayton DuBois.
Avis was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ambrose and Theresa (Alex) Littlewind and Edwin DuBois; a sister, Lindsey M. Littlewind and many aunts and uncles.
