Anna Jones Hooker and Clyde Hooker celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 9, 2001, at a reception hosted by their children at Highland Baptist Church. Mr. and Mrs. Hooker (both originally from Winston-Salem) were married
on September 2, 1951, at Lewisville Baptist Church. They have five children, Barry and Alan Hooker, both of Fayetteville; Angela Faircloth of San Diego, Calif.; and Keith Hooker and Sherri Martin, both of Greensboro. The couple has nine grandchildren.

Grace Beard Melvin and retired Rev. Benjamin “Benny” Melvin of Fayetteville celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 30, 2001, with a late afternoon reception at Highland Country Club in Fayetteville. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin were married
on September 20, 1951, at the Methodist parsonage in Eastover. They have two children, Stephen Ray Melvin of Fayetteville and Gregory Alan Melvin of Raleigh. The couple has one grandchild.

ASHEVILLE — Jennifer Nicole Kinlaw and Timothy Welborn Cole, both of Athens, Ga., were married
at 5 p.m. on October 20, 2001, at The Grove Park Inn with the Rev. Dr. Fred Werhan officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Danny Kinlaw of Lumberton. She is the granddaughter of Tessie Bullock of Lumberton, the late Mr. and Mrs. William Garland Smith and the late Joe Alex Kinlaw.
The bridegroom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Welborn F. Cole of Atlanta. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel D. Wilkes and the late Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Goldsmith Cole.
The bride wore a sleeveless off-the-shoulder gown and an elbow-length veil, both of which were designed and handsewn by Shannon McNeeley of Athens, Ga. The bodice was decorated with seed pearls and bugle beads cascading over candlelight dupioni silk. The skirt of the gown was of candlelight silk satin flowing into a tulip design in the back. A white organza train embossed with pearls cascaded from underneath the skirt. Roses in white and candlelight were clustered together at the base of the covered-button back enclosure. The bride carried a hand-tied bouquet of pink roses and delphinium. The bouquet was wrapped with a lace handerchief which belonged to her great-grandmother. The veil consisted of ivory silk tulle trimmed with a silk edge. The headpiece was enhanced with bugle beads, pearls and Austrian crystals.
The bride was escorted by her father. The matron of honor was the bride’s friend, Julie Jernigan of Knoxville, Tenn. The bridesmaid was Marjorie Bourchier of Atlanta. The child attendant was Kelsey Smith of Lumberton
The best man was the groom’s father.
The wedding musicians were harpist Judy Wolter-Bailey, flutist Pam Coldemeyer, celloist Arlene Beckman and vocalist Mac Porter.
A reception, hosted by the bride’s parents, was held at Elaine’s Terrace at The Grove Park Inn Resort.
The bride is a graduate of the Salem Academy in Winston-Salem and the University of Georgia at Athens. She is a consultant with Bath & Body Works in Athens.
The bridegroom is a graduate of Marist School in Atlanta and the University of Georgia at Athens. He is the owner of Digital Resources in Athens.
After a trip to the mountains of North Carolina, the couple will live in Athens, Ga.

WILMINGTON — Kimberly Margaret Goldie of Fayetteville and Paul Richard Staines of Brotton, Northern England, were married
at 5 p.m. on August 25, 2001, at St. Thomas Preservation Church with the Rev. Amanda J. McCullough officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Teresa M. Goldie of Fayetteville and Wilson D. Goldie of Spring Lake. She is the granddaughter of Margaret Harvey of Orange Park, Fla.; Robert Harvey of San Bernardino, Calif.; the late Camilla Goldie and the late Charles Goldie.
The bridegroom’s parents are Sandra E. Staines of Saltburn-By-The-Sea, England, and Richard A. Staines of Agardstrand, Norway. He is the grandson of Greta Smith of Brotton, England.
The bride wore a veil which featured a Juliet cap that had been worn by her mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on their wedding days. She also wore an antique brooch, making her the fifth generation bride to wear it on her wedding day.
The bride was escorted by her father. The maid of honor was Bess M. Rosefield of Raleigh. The bridesmaids were Kelly Major of Washington, D.C.; Nicola Barnard of Brotton, England; Margot Lamp of Etters, Pa.; and Dianna Mooneyhan and Kristen Mooneyhan, both of Tampa, Fla. The ring bearer was Alexander Goldie of Columbia, S.C. The flower girls were Ellie Barnard and Jodie Cox, both of Brotton, England; and Rebekah Mooneyhan of Tampa, Fla.
The best man was Terry Cox of Brotton, England. The groomsmen were John Barnard, Jamie Husband and Mark Weedy, all of Brotton, England; and Dave Goldie and Zachary Campbell, both of Columbia, S.C.
A reception was held on the Henrietta III Cape Fear Riverboat after the ceremony.
The bride is a graduate of Pine Forest Senior High School in Fayetteville. She earned a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from East Carolina University and a master’s degree in hand therapy from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. She is an associate professor with the Hand Therapy Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
The bridegroom received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Teeside in Middlesbrough, England. He is a structural designer with Mustang Engineering in Houston.
The couple will live in Houston.

Amy Elizabeth VanderClute and Richard Allen Lovato, both of Fayetteville, were married
at 4 p.m. on October 20, 2001, at the Main Post Chapel on Fort Bragg. Chaplain Maj. Jerry Powell officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Burt Alfred VanderClute II of Fayetteville. She is the granddaughter of Virginia Craycraft of Camden, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Anderson of Blytheville, Ark.; the late Mr. and Mrs. Burt VanderClute; and the late Roy Craycraft.
The bridegroom’s mother is Helen Clay of Fort Worth, Texas. He is the grandson of Rose Gallegos of Albuquerque, N.M., and the late Ernest Gallegos.
The bride wore a cream ballgown of mikado satin which featured a scoop neckline detailed with illusion embroidered with pearls and Swarovski crystals. Her fingertip-length veil was borrowed from her sorority sister and friend, Mary Catherine Bauer Hinds of Raleigh. The veil was attached to a tiara accented with genuine freshwater pearls, Swarovski crystals and tanzanite rondelles.
She was escorted by her father. The maid of honor was the bride’s sister, Lia Catherine VanderClute of Greensboro.
The best man was the groom’s friend, Timothy Alan Thornburgh of Mabelon, Ga. The ushers were Matthew William Greca and Robert James Howard, both of Fayetteville.
The wedding organist was Judith Aycock.
A reception, hosted by the bride’s parents, was held at the Fort Bragg Officer’s Club immediately after the ceremony.
The bride is a graduate of the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is attending nursing school and pursuing her registered nurse licensure at Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst.
The bridegroom is a graduate of Sam Houston High School in Arlington, Texas. He is a sergeant first class in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Bragg.
The couple will live in Fayetteville.
