Clarence Christopher and Annie Milliken Canady Sr. of Fayetteville will celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary on August 5, 2001, at a reception hosted by their children in the couple’s home.
Mr. and Mrs. Canady (both originally from Freeland) were married
on August 5, 1939, in Dillon, S.C.

They have four children, Patsy Davis and Joseph Canady, both of Fayetteville, Clarence Canady Jr. of Hope Mills and Betty Bryant of Supply. They have six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The bride wore a strapless gown by Demetrius with a satin bodice and a straight skirt and train of Battenburg lace. She carried a bouquet of wildflowers, accented by daisies and pink roses.
The bride was escorted by her father. The maid of honor was the sister of the groom, Amanda Davis of Orlando, Fla. The bridesmaids were Dawn Chatney of Lake Charles, La., Crystal Turner of Greensboro, Erin Byrnes of Columbia, S.C., Sherry Roberts of Fayetteville and Katie Hendrickson and Lori Hendrickson, both of Raleigh. The child attendants were Andee Dees, Charlee Liebers and Jacob Liebers, all of Fayetteville.
The best man was the groom’s friend, Brenden Wood of Orlando, Fla. The groomsmen were Robert Brandenburg of Charlotte, Ted Lizze of Cullowhee and Ryan Greever, Marcello Concha, Kazim DeGregory and Trevor Davis, all of Orlando, Fla.
The wedding was directed by Donna Dees. The wedding musicians were Jim Leatherwood, Ted Lizze, Amanda Davis and Andee Dees.
A clambake and dance, hosted by the bride’s parents and Tom and Jill Hendrickson, aunt and uncle of the bride, were held at the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum after the ceremony.
A rehearsal dinner, hosted by the groom’s parents, was held on July 6 at Straits Shrimp Fest.
The bride is a graduate of South View High School in Fayetteville. She earned her bachelor’s degree in theatre arts from Western Carolina University. She is employed by Estee Lauder as a make-up artist and is also a freelance make-up artist for movie and film.
The bridegroom received his bachelor’s degree in midi synthesis from Western Carolina University. He is employed by Disney World as a composer, producer and professional musician.
After a honeymoon trip to Jamaica, the couple settled in Orlando, Fla.

The matron of honor was the bride’s sister, Sarah Kimball Bates Howell of Chapel Hill. The bridesmaids were Tamara Hakooz Bates of Apex, Malinda Hutchinson Craven of Fayetteville, Susan McNeill Hutchinson of Chapel Hill and Rebecca Ann Schlagheck of Raleigh.
The best girl was the groom’s daughter, Cassidy Jane Hutchinson of Weaverville. The groomsmen were Thurman Williams III and William Eichhorn Voegele, both of Asheville, Richard Thomas Craven of Fayetteville, Gilbert Lyman Bates of Apex and Robert Jutzi Howell of Chapel Hill.

The bridegroom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. William Keith Gardner Sr. of Antioch.The bridegroom is the grandson of Augusta Wayne Gardner Jr. of Raeford and Geraldine Gardner of Goldsboro.
The bride wore a white gown of de-lustered Italian satin with a sleeveless bodice accented with inserts of illusion in the straps. The bodice was enhanced with hand-beaded Alecon lace. She wore a semi-cathedral length train and a long veil and carried a hand-tied nosegay of miniature spray bridal white roses with touches of deep purple.
She was escorted by her father. The maid of honor was her sister, Elizabeth Smith of Pinehurst. The bridesmaids were Rebecca King of Bristol, Va., Wendy Branch of Greenville and Megan Stafford of Denton. The child attendants were Nadia Schmidt and Elena Schmidt, both of Greensboro, and Paul Schmidt of Simpsonville.
The best man was the groom’s friend, Jason Clark of Greenville. The groomsmen were Matthew Rosser of Sanford, Harold Thrower of Raeford and Donald Warcup of Broadway.
The wedding was directed by Carroll Coley. The wedding musicians were Nancy McNeill and Sharona Carter.
A reception was held at McKeithan Fellowship Hall after the ceremony.
The bride is a student at Campbell University School of Pharmacy in Buies Creek.
