Washington — Jeffries
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Angela M. Washington of Odenton, Md., and Kenneth R. Jeffries of Washington were married
at 5 p.m. on October 8 at Northeastern Presbyterian Church in Washington. The Rev. Henry C. Eiland officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Dr. Arthur C. and Almeta H. Washington of Tallahassee, Fla. She is the granddaughter of Charles Hargest of Gilmer, Texas.
The bridegroom’s parents are Onde H. Jeffries and Dr. Marye J. Jeffries of Linden. The bridegroom is the grandson of Lorraine Tillmon of Spring Lake.
The bride carried a bouquet of coral, pink and peach roses and baby’s breath. She was escorted by her father.
The bridesmaids were Stacy Clark and Ursula Washington, both of Houston, Texas; Celina Wise of Oak Park, Ill.; Michelle Rice of Teaneck, N.J.; Jawana Harrison and Dr. Kimberly Jeffries Leonard, both of Washington; Pam Curry of Landover, Md.; and Yolanda Carnes of Aurora, Ill. The ring bearer was Andrew Charles Washington of Houston. The Bible bearer was Victor Jeffries Leonard of Washington. The bell ringer was Arthur Cameron Washington of Houston.
The best man was the groom’s fraternity brother, Steven Carnes of Aurora. The groomsmen were Dr. Anthony Washington and Judge Arthur Washington Jr., both of Houston, Clarence Jeffries of Fayetteville, Herbert McMillian of Rochester, N.Y., Herbert Jeffries of Leesburg, Va., James Rice of Teaneck, N.J., Christopher Lee of Durham and John Means of Washington.
The wedding was directed by Carolyn Gethers. The wedding musicians were soloist Deborah Williams and harpist Kim Sator-Randolph. A reception, hosted by the bride and groom and the bride’s parents, was held at Martin’s Crosswinds in Greenbelt, Md., immediately after the ceremony. The reception musicians were the Dr. Bill Clark ensemble.
The bride is a 1989 graduate of the the Howard University Law School in Washington. She is an attorney with the Federal Aviation Administration in Washington.
The bridegroom is a 1990 graduate of Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Ala.. He is a biologist with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md.
After a honeymoon trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico, the couple will live in Odenton.
Mr. & Mrs. Harmon Kivett
Harmon and Rebecca Kivett celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 29 with a sit-down dinner for 115 friends and family at the Radisson Prince Charles Hotel Terrace Ballroom in Fayetteville.
Mr. and Mrs. Kivett were married
on November 3, 1950, in Chesterfield, S.C. They have four children, Martha K. Cannon, Ida K. Martin, Sharon Parsek and Phyllis Howard; and seven grandchildren.
Hosts for the reception were Ida K. Martin, John Martin and Gabriel Martin, all of Kingstree, S.C.; and Martha K. Cannon, Keith Cannon, Nicklaus Cannon and Haley Cannon, all of Hickory. The couple also will celebrate with a family cruise to the British Islands and Mexico.
Mrs. Kivett is a retired medical assistant with the office of Dr. Lynn Johnsen in Fayetteville. Mr. Kivett is retired from the N.C. Department of Community Colleges in Raleigh.
Avalos — Lockhart
Goldie Elizabeth Avalos of Redlands, Calif., and Albery Lee Lockhart of Loma Linda, Calif., are engaged to be married. Miss Avalos is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph H. Avalos of Redlands. Mr. Lockhart is the son of Sharon Denise Korn of Fayetteville and James Allen Lockhart of Loma Linda. He also is the stepson of Charles Phillip Korn Jr. of Fayetteville and Heidi Lockhart of Loma Linda.
Britt — Jordan
Judge and Mrs. Joe Freeman Britt of Lumberton announce the engagement of their daughter, Natalie Jane Britt of San Francisco, to David William Jordan of San Francisco, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harbert Lee Jordan of Cleveland, Miss.
The couple plans to marry at 11 a.m. on February 3, 2001, in the Main Post Chapel, Presidio of San Francisco, with the Rev. Philip Busbee officiating.
The couple plans to live in San Francisco.
Martin — Moody
Candice Rae Martin and Charles Wilhelm Moody, both of Fayetteville, will be married
on June 23, 2001, at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Fayetteville.
Miss Martin is the daughter of Roy A. Martin and Patricia N. DeLapa, both of Fayetteville, and the stepdaughter of Mutsumi Martin and Anthony DeLapa, both of Fayetteville.
Mr. Moody is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Moody of Linden.
Elk — Locklear
PEMBROKE — Kristen Ronette Elk of Pembroke and Jimmy Patrick Locklear of Huntsville, Ala., were married
at 5 p.m. on December 2 at Prospect United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Timothy Creel and the Rev. Bill James Locklear officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Elk of Pembroke.
She is the granddaughter of Launa Elk of Pembroke, the late Ray Elk, Myrtle Jacobs of Pembroke, the late Astor Jacobs and the late James Calvin Chavis.
The groom’s parents are retired Sgt. Maj. and Mrs. Henry Locklear of Huntsville.
He is the grandson of the late William Henry Locklear, the late Roseann McMillan Locklear and the late Arnold and Bama Guthrie.
The bride wore an ivory silk faille sleeveless gown designed by Christos.
The square neckline was accented with a beaded rope braid.
The drop-waist, A-line skirt had a panel front and was adorned with venise lace scroll work and braid.
The box-pleated back of the gown fell into a chapel-length train.
The bride carried a cascading bouquet of rubrium lilies and Veronica roses, accented with English ivy and stephanotis.
Her fingertip-length veil was two tiers of ivory illusion on a custom Christos headpiece adorned with scroll work and braid.
The bride was escorted by her father.
The matron of honor was Robin Lowery Woodell of Pembroke.
The bridesmaids were Carla Barnes of Shannon; Faline Locklear, Sophia Oxendine and Amelia Locklear Elk, all of Pembroke; Shannon Chavis Lowry of Garner; and Torrey Warriax of Lumberton.
The flower girl was the bride’s niece, Kelsey Rae Elk of Pembroke. The ring bearer was the groom’s nephew, Tyler Gilmore of Littleton, Colo.
The bridesmaids were attired in sleeveless floor-length navy silk chiffon gowns.
The gowns featured a high, round neckline and a scooped, draped back. The matron of honor was attired identical to the bridesmaids.
The attendants carried English-style hand-tied fresh bouquets of rubrium lilies and Laminuecte roses accented with tulle netting.
The flower girl wore a floor-length, white sleeveless silk organza gown.
It featured a hand-tied waist sash at the back accented with a handmade rose silk flower.
She wore a matching silk flower in her hair.
The best man was the groom’s brother, William Henry Locklear of Huntsville.
The groomsmen were Kelvin Ray Elk, Horace Oxendine and Brian Woodell, all of Pembroke; Ted Gilmore and Wade Blacketor, both of Littleton; and Daniel Barnes of Shannon.
The wedding was directed by Barbara Braveboy-Locklear.
The wedding musicians were pianist Tommy Cox, trumpeter Donavita Chavis and James Kent Chavis on the bass strings.
Vocalists were Gina Maynor Revels, Lambert Locklear, Quae Cummings, Kent Hunt, Brent Hunt and the Revs. Timothy Creel, Michael Cummings and Bruce Swett.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a dinner reception in the ballroom of the Holiday Inn, Lumberton.
Music was provided by Jim Chaves Classic Band of Charlotte.
The rehearsal dinner, held at Meadow Manor of Lumberton, was hosted by the groom’s parents.
Social events prior to the wedding included a lingerie/bath-linen shower hosted by Carla Barnes and Robin Woodell at the Woodell home in Pembroke.
A china dinner party was hosted by Madie Rae Locklear and Glenda Chavis Locklear in Lumberton.
Annie B. Baker, Lorena Chavis and Glenda Chavis hosted a miscellaneous bridal shower in Pembroke.
The bride’s mother hosted a bridal luncheon at the Magnolia Inn of Pinehurst.
A “honey-do” dinner party and shower was held in honor of the couple and hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Kelvin Elk and Mr. and Mrs. Davey Covey Lowery at the Elk home in Pembroke.
A Christmas shower was hosted by Carol and Susan Young in Pembroke.
The bride is a graduate of Purnell Swett High School in Pembroke and received her bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke on December 20.
The groom is a graduate of Sparkman High School in Huntsville and the University of Alabama at Huntsville.
He is currently serving in the United States Marine Corps and is stationed at Cherry Point.
After a honeymoon trip to Hilton Head Island, S.C., and the Grand Floridian Resort in Orlando, Fla., the couple will live in Pembroke.
Huggins — Walker

at 6 p.m. on December 16 at Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church.
The groom’s uncle, the Rev. R.A.L. Walker, and the Rev. Larry Lyon officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce W. Huggins of Lumberton.
She is the granddaughter of Mrs. L.M. Huggins of Lumberton, the late L.M. Huggins and the late Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Brisson of Dublin.
The groom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Peter Walker of Chapel Hill.
He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. S.G. Farrington and the late Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Trenaby Walker.
The bride wore her mother’s wedding gown of ivory peau de soie with an empire waist and cathedral train.
Her bridal veil was bordered with lace and extended the length of the train.
She carried a cascading bouquet of roses, lily of the valley and stephanotis.
The bride was escorted by her father. The bride’s sister, Katherine Huggins Davis, was the matron of honor.
The best man was the groom’s brother, Franklin Trenaby Walker.
The ushers were the bride’s brother, Wayne Huggins of Cary, and the bride’s brother-in-law, William Davis of Lumberton.
The wedding was directed by Claudia Wilkinson.
The wedding musicians were Laurie Spencer and David Gaston.
A reception, hosted by the bride’s parents, was held after the ceremony at Chetola in Blowing Rock.
The bride is a graduate of Lumberton High School, Meredith College in Raleigh and the North Carolina State University graduate school of International Studies in Raleigh.
The groom is a graduate of Forman School in Litchfield, Conn., and Appalachian State University in Boone.
He is employed with Madison River of Raleigh/Durham.
After a honeymoon trip to Costa Rica, the couple will live in Raleigh.

at 3 p.m. on December 2 at Spring Lake Assembly of God with Senior Pastor Su B. Choe officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Soon Ae Lee Prufer of Fayetteville and the late Professor Hans-J Prufer of Hanover, Germany.
She also is the granddaughter of Ki Dal Bae of Pusan, Korea.
The bridegroom’s parents are the Rev. and Mrs. Edward Bergman Sr. of Hope Mills.
The bride wore a strapless, white satin ball gown with a fitted bodice and waist and a matching veil.
The gown’s full skirt featured seven layers of tulle and was accented with pearls and a detachable, nine-foot cathedral-length train.
She wore her mother’s pearl necklace which matched the wedding gown.
The bride carried a cascading bouquet of red and white roses, baby’s breath, Christmas greens and gold ribbon trim.
The bride was escorted by her oldest brother, retired Master Sgt. Johnny S. Saucier.
The maid of honor was the bride’s cousin, Maria N. Saucier of Pineville, La. The bridesmaids were Inhyang Song of Boston; the bride’s cousin, Suzie M. Yi of Burke, Va.; and Laura Ratliff of Gulf Breeze, Fla. The flower girl was the bride’s niece, Minnah A. Prufer of Las Vegas, Nev.
The ring bearer was the bride’s nephew, Alex H. Prufer of Fayetteville.
The best man was the bride’s twin brother, Karl R. Prufer of Las Vegas. The groomsmen were Sgt. Maj. Frank V. Garza and Sgt. Joe Higginbotham, both of Fayetteville, and the groom’s eldest son, Marcus A. Bergman of Hope Mills.
The ushers were the bride’s nephews, Jonathan L. Saucier and Sean K. Saucier, both of Fayetteville, and the groom’s sons, Jeffrey M. Bergman, Ryan A. Bergman and Kyle A. Bergman, all of Hope Mills.
The wedding featured a memorial candle which was lit in honor of the late Hans-J Prufer by his son, retired Master Sgt. Johnny S. Saucier.
The wedding musicians were pianists Harry K. Batton and Yu Jung Ko.
A reception, hosted by the bride’s brother and mother, was held after the ceremony at the Gateway Inn in Spring Lake.
The reception music was provided by “Rockin” Robbie of Cruisers Pub.
The bride received bachelor’s degrees in nursing from Kyung Hee University in Seoul, Korea, and Northwestern State University in Shreveport, La.
She is a registered nurse with Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
The bridegroom received his master’s degrees in security management and public administration from Webster University in St. Louis, Mo.
He is a professor of criminal justice at Fayetteville State University.
After a honeymoon trip to Cozumel, Mexico, the couple will live in Fayetteville.
Mr. and Mrs. John Brown
John E. “Ed” and Helen Albert Brown of Fayetteville celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a seven-day Walt Disney World vacation, which included a cruise to Nassau and Disney’s private island.
Mr. and Mrs. Brown were married
on Oct. 28, 1950, at Vaughn Memorial Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville.
They have one daughter, Cheryl Brown of Charlotte.

Mr. and Mrs. Wesley B. Moore Jr. of Fayetteville celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary on December 30 with a small family celebration at their home.
