The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Spain Jr. of Fayetteville. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Spain Sr. of Henderson and the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Strickland.
The bridegroom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Stanley T. Abell of Raleigh. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Chapman of St. Petersburg, Fla.
The bride wore a white satin gown and a shoulder-length veil attached to a pearl tiara. She also wore an heirloom cameo ring from her late great-grandmother, Mrs. Clyde Crumpler Murphy. She carried a bouquet of purple hydrangeas.
The bride was escorted by her father. The maid of honor was Terri Sumner of Raleigh. The matron of honor was the bride’s sister-in-law, Leta S. Spain of Fayetteville. The bridesmaids were Amy Clatfelter and Beth Homer, both of Raleigh; Janie Corriher of Concord; Jennifer Massey of Southern Pines; and Trisha Swart of Marion. The flower girls were Valerie Rosser, Olivia Spain and Sydney Rosser, all of Fayetteville.
The best man was the groom’s father. The groomsmen were Gregory Abell of Berryville, Va.; Nathaniel Abraham of Greensboro; Brannon Lambert of Raleigh; Marshall Spain of Fayetteville; Carl Swart of Marion; and Michael O’Bryant of St. Augustine, Fla.
The wedding was directed by Melba Rosser. The wedding musicians were the Cumberland String Quartet, vocalists June Strickland and Wayne Strickland and pianist Jim Gray.
A reception, hosted by the bride’s parents, was held at the Fayetteville Woman’s Club and ballroom after the ceremony.
The bride is a graduate of Cape Fear High School in Fayetteville. She received her bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical science from Campbell University in Buies Creek. She is a chemist with Baxter Healthcare in Marion.
The bridegroom is a graduate of Wake Forest Rolesville High School in Raleigh. He received his bachelor’s degrees in business and outdoor education from Appalachian State University in Boone. He is a sales representative with Novartis Pharmaceuticals in Asheville.
After a honeymoon trip to the Island of St. Lucia, the couple will live in Marion.

The bridesmaids were Lindsay Ross of Vicenza, Italy; Amanda Barkman of San Diego, Calif.; Jackie Gibson of Durham; Caren Hanley of Smithfield; and Anna King of Raleigh. The flower girl was Torri Alves of Newport News, Va., and the ring bearer was Tyler Horne of Winterville.
The best man was Capt. William Christian Drew of Columbus, Ga. The groomsmen were Darren Guay of Erwin; Stephen F. Horne III Esq. of Winterville; Lee J. Tucker of Mt. Pleasant; 1st. Lt. Gregory J. Whelan of Madison, Wisc.; and Christopher D. Wright of Winston-Salem. The ushers were Blair A. Ross IV and Jesse W. Ross, both of Vicenza, Italy.
The wedding was directed by Jennie White. The wedding musicians were soloist Tim Lloyd and organist Judy Aycock. The Scripture readers were Jennifer Hobbs of Southern Pines and Carrie Carter of Raleigh.
A reception, hosted by the bride’s mother, was held in the Lafayette Ballroom of the Fort Bragg Officers’ Club after the wedding.
The bride is a graduate of Fayetteville Academy. She received her bachelor’s degree in speech communications from Meredith College in Raleigh. She is a reporter with News 14 Carolina in Raleigh.
The bridegroom is a graduate of Bloomingdale High School in Valrico, Fla. He received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Campbell University in Buies Creek and his juris doctorate degree from Campbell Law School. He is an assistant district attorney with the Pitt County District Attorney’s Office.
After a honeymoon trip to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, the couple will live in Greenville.
