The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Rutledge of Rock Hill, S.C., and Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Schoonmaker Jr. of Concord. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Slaughter and Douglas D. Schoonmaker Sr., both of Concord, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Learue Mayfield of Rock Hill, S.C.
The bridegroom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Randy Blake Spell of Greensboro. The bridegroom is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Donnie M. Faircloth of Stedman, the late Alease Faircloth of Roseboro and Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Spell of Autryville.
The bride wore an ivory gown of dulaine satin with a detachable semi-cathedral length train. The sheath-style dress featured a strapless bodice accented with pearls and sequins scattered over Alencon lace. The fitted skirt and train were highlighted with Alencon lace. She carried a bouquet of cascading Vendela roses, fern, green ivy and stephanotis.
The bride was escorted by her father. The matron of honor was the bride’s sister, Addie Schoonmaker McAnulty of Concord. The bridesmaids were Faith Burrage, Anna Lott and Kimberly Newton, all of Concord; Sarah Easterling of Winston-Salem; and Jennifer Simpson of Greensboro.
The bridesmaids wore mock two-piece gowns of celadon dulcine satin. The dresses featured banded, strapless bodices and simple A-line skirts with sweep trains. They carried bouquets of Vendela roses and white caspia tied with satin ribbons.
The junior attendants were Laura Caroline Spell of Autryville and Taylor Faircloth of Dunn. The flower girl was Hailey Price of Raleigh.
The best man was the groom’s father. The groomsmen were Marshall Sullivan of Greensboro, Nolan Faircloth of Dunn, Richard Spell of Autryville, David Stewart of Carthage and David McAnulty of Concord.
The wedding was directed by Mrs. John Knox Hillman. The wedding musicians were organist Mitsi Malone, trumpeter Stacy Mills and harpist Christine VanArsdale.
A reception, hosted by the bride’s parents, was held at the Cabarrus Country Club in Concord after the ceremony.
A rehearsal dinner, hosted by the groom’s parents, was held at the Cabarrus Country Club the night before the wedding.
A miscellaneous shower, hosted by the kindergarten grade level of Colfax Elementary, was held on April 20, 2002, at the home of Mrs. Ann Saunders of Greensboro.
A pig picking and shower was held June 8, 2002, in Autryville and was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Spell, Mr. and Mrs. Nolan Faircloth and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Spell.
A lingerie shower, hosted by Mrs. Ike Faust, Mrs. David Lockhart, Judi Mann, Pat Hollingsworth, Mrs. Ron Smith and Libby Terry, was held June 9, 2002 at the home of Mrs. Faust.
A drop-in, hosted by Mrs. Marion Hicklin, Mrs. Rosalie Beaty, Catherine Hicklin, Mrs. John Moore III, Marianne Price and Brooke Moore, was held June 15, 2002, at the home of Mrs. Hicklin in Rock Hill, S.C.
A pool-side dinner shower, was held June 29, 2002 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Smith, and was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Kirk Ewart, Mr. and Mrs. Ike Faust, Mrs. John Foard, Dr. and Mrs. John Nordan, Mr. and Mrs. Brad Shiele, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Shive and Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Sikes, Jr. .

The bride received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is a teacher with the Guilford County Schools.
The bridegroom received his bachelor’s degrees in business administration and economics from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He is an account executive with United Healthcare.
After a honeymoon trip to Aruba, the couple will settle in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
