on May 25, 2002, at The Church of the Good Shepherd in Raleigh. The Right Rev. Edwin F. Gulick Jr., Bishop of Kentucky, and the Rev. Dr. Robert C. Sawyer officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Alan Hays of Raleigh. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Sandlin of Fayetteville and the late Ellen Monaghan Sandlin.
The bridegroom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin George Robertson III and Else Søgaard Robertson of Louisville, Ky.
The maid of honor was the bride’s sister, Laura Marie Hays of Chapel Hill. The bridesmaids were Emily Danielá Gowdy of Silver Springs, Md.; Mary Henry Hawes of Charlotte; Christina Marie Monroe of Chapel Hill; Desrie Monique Nisbett of Greensboro; and Leigh Ann Skinner of Atlanta. Honorary bridesmaids were Katherine Elizabeth Sandlin of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; and Elizabeth Norris Ball and Hadley McEntee Horne, both of Chapel Hill. The flower girl was Catherine Alberta Paul of Bethesda, Md. The ring bearer was Samuel Taliaferro Thomas of Bethesda, Md.
The best man was the groom’s brother, Andrew David Robertson of Louisville, Ky. The groomsmen were Walter Raleigh Langley III of Louisville, Ky.; Phillip Jay Harris of Alexandria, Va.; Ryan Buell McCormick of Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.; Kevin Edward Pettigrew of Mercer Island, Wash.; and Daryl Atley Zakov of Seattle. A reception and dance was held at the Capital City Club after the ceremony.
Thursday night, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Sandlin; Mr. and Mrs. David Sandlin of Newnan, Ga., aunt and uncle of the bride; and Elizabeth Sandlin, cousin of the bride, entertained the couple at a dinner party at North Ridge Country Club. Mrs. John Monaghan and Katie and Ann Monaghan, all cousins of the bride, hosted a bridesmaid’s luncheon on Friday. Friday night, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin George Robertson III hosted a rehearsal dinner at Sister’s Garden.
The bride is a graduate of Ravenscroft School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a teacher and coach at The McLean School in Potomac, Md. She was presented by the Terpsichorean Club at the 1997 North Carolina Debutante Ball.
The bridegroom is a graduate of Kentucky Country Day School in Louisville, and Kenyon College. He is currently attending Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Va.
The couple will live in Alexandria.
