Hester Anniversary
Donald and Betty Hester of Durham, NC celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 21, 2001 at Northgate Chapel in Durham.
Hosts and hostesses were their three sons and spouses. The couple has three children: Don E. Hester, Jr. and wife, Chandra of Wake Forest, NC; Eric Hester and wife, Terre of Durham, NC; and Craig Hester, also of Durham.

The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Leslie Morgan Hale, Jr. of Chapel Hill. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Odell Conrad Calhoun of Thomasville, NC and the late Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Morgan Hale, Sr. of Fayetteville, NC. The groom is a graduate of Appalachian State University. He is with Andersen LLP in Charlotte.
The bride wore an A - line gown of silk twill embellished with panels of ivory Alencon lace and seed pearls. The gown and headpiece were selected to highlight the Alencon lace veil, worn 34 years ago by the groom's mother. She carried a cascading bouquet of Eskimo roses, gardenias, stephanotis and champagne roses tied with ribbon streamers.
The bride's maid of honor was Margaret Rose Fisher of Charlotte. Her bridesmaids were Jennifer Marie Bedrosian and Jill Ten Eyck Emerson of Jackson, WY; Jennifer St. George Hill, Elizabeth Perrin Lambeth and Nicole Shirley Payne, all of Charlotte; and Elizabeth Parker Stutts of Atlanta, GA. The groom's cousin, Kathryn Angela Calhoun, served as junior bridesmaid. Program attendants were Sara Kathryn Hale of New York, NY; Kerie Beth Ratterree Scott of High Point, NC; and Holly Thraillkill Taft of Birmingham, AL. The wedding weekend celebrations included a Bridesmaid's Luncheon at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Ralph Greene, a Rehearsal Dinner at the Charlotte City Club, a Wedding Brunch at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Lee Guice, and an informal Sunday brunch at the Butz' home. Following a honeymoon to Jamaica, the Hales will reside in Charlotte.

Jones Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Jones, Sr. of Bahama, NC celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in Atlanta, GA on Sept. 8th, 2001.They dined at the SunDial Restaurant, which provides a panoramic view of the Atlanta skyline and beyond as it revolves atop the Westin Peachtree Hotel. The celebration was hosted by their children: John and Mildred Jones and John and Courtney Hall, all of Atlanta, GA.
The couple has two grandchildren: Jarian Jones 23, and Chynnah Hall, 3, both of Atlanta, GA.
Mr. Jones, a graduate of NCA&T (1938), is a retired soil conversationist, the first African - American in North Carolina to work in this field. Mrs. Mattie Jones is a retired beautician and dietitian for the Head Start program.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Raven Mizelle of Washington.
Mrs. Pamela Ballog Paxton of Wilmington served as the matron of honor for her sister. Bridesmaids were Paige Grantham Lucas of Charleston, South Carolina, Stormy Ritchie of Lillington, Monica Song of Baltimore, Maryland, Suzanne McLeod Stacey of Greensboro, and Tangela Wyke of Raleigh, all friends of the bride. Hayley Mizelle of Washington, niece of the groom, served as the flower girl.
Mr. Jimmy Raven Mizelle of Washington served as his son's best man. Groomsmen were Garyn Mizelle of Washington, Joel Mizelle of Washington, and Randall Mizelle of Orlando, Florida, brothers of the groom and Joseph Lamm of Knightdale, James Perry, III of Dunn, and Reed Potts of Greenville, friends of the groom. Master Bryan Rubin of Chapel Hill, friend of the bride, assisted as ring bearer.
Readings were provided by Judith Smith of Columbia, South Carolina, aunt of the bride and Ryan Aycock of Raleigh. Florence Peacock and James Perry, III were soloists. Christine Shields, Rebecca Aycock and Terri Clontz served as program attendants.
A 1991 graduate of Chapel Hill High School, Miss Ballog earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development and Family Relations from East Carolina University in 1995. She was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. She is employed as a Real Estate Agent by Re/Max Realty 2000.
A 1990 graduate of Washington High School, Mr. Mizelle earned his Bachelor of Science degree from East Carolina University in 1997. He is employed as Purchasing Manager with Fred Smith Company.
Following the ceremony, the bride's family hosted a reception and dance at the Carolina Club.
After a honeymoon trip to Myan Riveara, Mexico, the couple will live in Raleigh.
