Lossie A.J. Blacknall
HENDERSON -- Lossie Ann Johnson Blacknall, 72, of 322 Keene St. died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Prince A. Johnson and Mary H. Southerland Johnson. She was the widow of James L. Blacknall.
She was a member of Concord Missionary Baptist Church, where the funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday by the Rev. S.E. Blalock. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are her seven children, Dora L. Blacknall, Annie B. Brame, James E. Blacknall, Maurice Blacknall, Clarence Blacknall, Anita Blacknall and Phyllis Blacknall; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at 961 Abbott St. in Henderson.
Pallbearers will be Gary Taylor, Dion Taylor, Darnell Bass, Lafayette Miles, Jasper Kearney, Thomas Perry and Richard Perry.
Floral bearers will be Maxine Holden, Juanita Holden, Edith Jones, Joyce Rainey, Willie Mae Richardson and Lucy B. Foster.

Michael B. Garrett
OXFORD -- Michael B. Garrett, 47, of 5553 Culbreth Road died Friday, June 6, 2003, at his residence. He was a Person County native and the son of the late Mauford B. and Dorothy Clayton Garrett.
He was president and CEO of Chudy International.
Surviving are his wife, Terri Patton Garrett, and two sons, Tad and Max Garrett, all of the home; and one sister, Joy Marlynn Biliss of Roxboro.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Chapel, 503 College St., Oxford.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
Willie A. Kittrell Jr.
HENDERSON -- Willie Arthur "Billy" Kittrell Jr., 77, a former resident of 85 S. Chavis Road, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, in a local nursing home. A native of Vance County, he was the son of the late Willie Arthur and Ethel Hayes Kittrell and was the widow of Amelia Pace Kittrell.
He was a lifetime member of Plank Chapel United Methodist Church, a graduate of North Carolina State University, where he received a B.S. in textiles, a former town commissioner of Kittrell, a former member of the Kittrell Volunteer Fire Department, and a retired employee of Harriet & Henderson Yarns.
Kittrell was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the 17th Infantry Regiment in Okinawa during World War II, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Kris R. Meyers. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery with military honors.
He is survived by one daughter, Linda Gail Kittrell of Henderson; three sons, William Ted Kittrell of Henderson and Dan Arthur Kittrell and Gene Pace Kittrell, both of Kittrell; two sisters, Elizabeth K. Taylor of Yorktown, Va., and Mary Ann K. Satterwhite of Henderson; four brothers, Bobby Kittrell of Henderson, Dr. Ben Kittrell of Florence, S.C., and Frank Kittrell and Jerry Kittrell, both of Goldsboro; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Ted and Sharon Kittrell, 5515 U.S. 158 Business.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Thomas Kittrell, Brad Satterwhite, Lawrence Pulley, James Cole, Herbie Grissom and Winston Kerley. Honorary pallbearers will be all members of the Kittrell Volunteer Fire Department.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Plank Chapel United Methodist Church, c/o Mildred Smith, P.O. Box 185, Kittrell, N.C. 27544.

James Batchelor Jr.
HENDERSON - James Batchelor Jr., 27, of 74 Sombrero Lane died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, from injuries received in an automobile accident in Franklin County. He was the son of the late Margie Batchelor and James Henry Thorpe.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home of Henderson Chapel by the Rev. Hugh F. Peace. Burial will be in Ilong Baptist Church cemetery in Granville County.
Surviving are nine sisters, Sheila A. Crisp, Pamela D. Lester, Barbara Cozart and Priscilla Thomas, all of Oxford, Shirley Thomas of Butner, Darlene Thomas and Patricia Medlin, both of Raleigh, Barbara Evans of Fayetteville, and Barbara Thorpe of New Jersey; six brothers, Babe A. Thorpe, James Thorpe, Darryn Thomas and George Outlaw, all of Oxford, Ronnie Thorpe of Henderson, and James H. Thorpe of Butner; and a grandmother, Margaret Braswell of Oxford.

Jennie C. Merritt
HENDERSON -- Jennie Cheatham Merritt, 91, of the Guardian Care Nursing Facility died Thursday, July 18, 2002, at the facility. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late William and Pattie Harris Cheatham. She was the widow of Alexander Merritt.
She attended Vance County Schools and was a resident of Harlem, N.Y., for 61 years.
She was a member of Redbud Baptist Church, where the funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday by Dr. J.E. Hall. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two adopted daughters, Helen Cheatham of Henderson and Pattie Rose Cheatham Davis of Elkins Park, Pa.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Garnes Funeral Chapel.
Pallbearers and floral bearers will be friends of the family.

Eugene Satterwhite
HENDERSON -- Eugene "Gene" Satterwhite, 75, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late Ashton and Elizabeth Harris Satterwhite.
At an early age, he joined the New Bethel Baptist Church and remained a faithful member until his health failed. He attended Vance County Schools and was employed for many years at Burkhart Carolina.
Surviving are his wife, Laura Baskett Satterwhite; eight children, Jeanie Galloway Jones of Henderson, Minister Victor Galloway of Raleigh, Mary Ricks, Shelia Daniels and Patricia Burton, all of Henderson, Deloris Galloway of Washington, D.C., Janice Galloway of Dorchester, Mass., and Jonnie Galloway of Raleigh; one sister, Emma Greene of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 23 grandchildren; and 53 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at New Bethel Baptist Church by Dr. J.H. Bryant, assisted by Elder Lassiter Baskett, the Rev. Jamil Crosson and Minister Victor Galloway. Interment will follow in Elmwood cemetery.
Floral bearers will be granddaughters. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
The family will receive friends at 227 High St. The body will be viewed Monday at E.C. Terry's Funeral & Cremation Services.

Julian V. Dyke
PORT WENTWORTH, Ga. -- Julian Van Dyke, 84, died Saturday at University Nursing & Rehabilitation in Athens, Ga.
The North Carolina native was a member of the Port Wentworth United Methodist Church. He was a retired heating and air conditioner contractor, boiler troubleshooter, and member of the Frank F. Baker Masonic Lodge #46 F & AM. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Elizabeth Van Dyke; daughter, Elizabeth Louise Dyke; 3 brothers, Norwood, Stephen, and R.L. Van Dyke.
Survivors include 4 sons, Julian A. Van Dyke Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo., E. Louis Van Dyke of Social Circle, Ga., William L. Van Dyke of Port Wentworth, Ga., and Thomas C. Van Dyke of Atlanta, Ga.; 2 grandchildren, Christina and Stephen; 2 stepgrandchildren, William and Donna; 1 brother, Alps Van Dyke Jr. of Kittrell; 2 sisters, Zellie McGill of Birmingham, Ala., and Mary Lina Chaka of Easley, S.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, West Chatham Chapel.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Port Wentworth United Methodist Church. Interment was in Hillcrest Abbey East.

Ned Campbell Sr.
WARREN COUNTY -- Ned Campbell Sr., 78, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. He was a Warren County native and the son of the late Lloyd Campbell Sr. and Jennie B. Campbell. He was the widower of Virgie Lee Campbell, nee Williams.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Norlina Baptist Church in Norlina by the Rev. John Rooks. Burial will be at the Norlina cemetery in Norlina.
Surviving are three sons, George Leonard Campbell Sr. of Macon, Ned Campbell Jr. of Pemberton, N.J., and Ronald Lee Campbell Sr. of Woodbridge, Va.; two daughters, Mary Campbell Greene of Baltimore and Maxine Campbell Mills of Columbia, Md.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, James Earl Campbell Sr. and Roosevelt Campbell, both of Baltimore, and George Washington Campbell of Norlina; and two sisters, Elizabeth Ball of Norlina and Virginia Greene of Philadelphia.

Pattie R.H. Perkinson
WISE -- Pattie Roane Hendrick Perkinson, 86, died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at Maryfield Nursing Home in High Point. She was a native of Palmer Springs, Va., and the daughter of the late Kate Wilson Hendrick and Joseph Riddick Hendrick Sr. She was the widow of Thomas Page Perkinson Sr.
She attended High Point College and Women's College (UNC-Greensboro). She was a member of Wise Baptist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, James B. White Chapter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wise Baptist Church in Wise by the Rev. Kenny Davis. Burial will follow in the Wise cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Perkinson Bobbitt of Stoneville; a son, Thomas Page Perkinson Jr. of Greensboro; a brother, Joseph Riddick Hendrick Jr. of Charlotte; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

James H. Stewart
OXFORD -- James Henry Stewart, 35, son of Harry Stewart and the late Betty L. Stewart, died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
He was a native of Caswell County. He attended Granville County public schools.
Besides his father in Semora, survivors include six brothers, Harry Stewart Jr. of Faison, Robert Stewart of Washington, Joseph Stewart of Oxford, David Stewart of Henderson, Jerome Stewart of Newark, N.J., and Anthony Stewart of Sewart; three sisters, Betty Winston, Sondra Stewart and Regina Stewart, all of Oxford; seven aunts; three uncles; two nieces; and eight nephews.
Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Willie Darby officiating, both in the chapel of Allen's Home of Funerals.
