Kevin J. Hardee
HENDERSON -- Kevin James Hardee, 17, of 220 Orville St., Henderson, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001. He was a Vance County native and the son of Larry Edward and Gale Edwards Hardee.
He attended Freedom Life Church of God, where funeral services will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. today by the Rev. Jeff Prower. Burial will follow in New Bethel Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a sister, Amanda Hardee of the home; a brother, Larry Edward Hardee II of the home; his maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Richard L. and Vera E. Wade of Kittrell; his maternal grandfather and step-grandmother, James and Virginia Edwards of Henderson; and his paternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Wilbur and Arlene Hardee of Leland.
The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Freedom Life Church of God. All other times, they are at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Steve Hardee, Larry Wayne Hardee, Jeffrey Woods, Jason Lewis, Kyle Renn and Jake Hardee.

James S. Hodges
OXFORD -- James Stewart Hodges, 53, of 500 High St., died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001. He was a native of Beaufort Co., and the son of the late Marjorie Everson Hodges.
He was the owner of Hodges & Co. Real Estate Appraisals, a member of Providence Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher, former member of the Granville County Chamber of Commerce, member of Raleigh Road Board of Realtors, and graduate of East Carolina University and Washington High School.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Providence Baptist Church by Dr. Randy Pittman. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Gail Harrison Hodges of the home; three daughters, Tara Thomas of Raleigh, Angela Fuller of Windsor, Molly Hodges of the home; one son, Jamie Hodges of the home; his father, James H. Hodges of Windsor; one sister, Barbara H. Black of Washington; two brothers, Larry W. Hodges and Mike R. Hodges, both of Greenville; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Keith Hodges and Grey Hodges; and mother, Marjorie Hodges.

FAYETTEVILLE -- Issac Richard “I.R.” July, 68, of 1287 Exeter Lane, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, following an extended illness.
He was the retired band director and music teacher at the former Henderson Institute.

Joseph E. West
HENDERSON -- Joseph Earl “Skeeter” West, 56, of 193 Kemps Lane, Henderson, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at his home. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late Benjamin Joseph and Virginia Abbott West.
He was a former employee of Harriet & Henderson Yarns Inc., and the former Perfect Packed Pickles Inc. He was a member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Blessed Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Donald Perkinson. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Wilson West; a daughter, Mary Ann W. Lassiter of Henderson; two sons, Bobby Gray West of Kittrell and Joseph Wilson “Joey” West of Henderson; three sisters, Hazel W. Delbridge, Judy W. Ellington and Carolyn W. Harris, all of Henderson; five brothers, Lowell A. “Don” West, James West, Wade West and Charles West, all of Henderson, and Bobby Morris West of Tilsonburg, Ontario, Canada; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia W. Ellis; a brother, Benjamin Dale West; and a grandson, Brandon Holt Bolton.
The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home of Bobby and Stacy West, 214 South Chaucer Way, Kittrell.

Helen S. Crews
OXFORD -- Helen Satterwhite Crews, 90, of 4640 James Royster Road died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at Granville Medical Center. She was a Granville County native, the daughter of the late Andrew Lee and Annie Maude Perry Satterwhite, and the widow of Jimmy “Bubba” Crews Sr.
She was a member of Providence Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by Dr. Randy Pittman. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Evelyn Crews Hicks of Oxford; a son, Jimmy D. Crews Jr. of Oxford; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home.

HENDERSON -- Gloria Jean Mosley, 44, of 1695 Gunclub Road died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at Triangle Hospice in Hillsborough.

W. Morris Wynne
LOUISBURG -- W. Morris Wynne, 83, of Louisburg died Monday, August 27, 2001. He was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Wynne. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Lancaster Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Dr. Larry Williams. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens.
Surviving are his wife, Laura Frances Wynne; sons, Bruce Wynne and wife, Kathy, of Bahama, Tony Wynne and wife, Terri, of Louisburg, and Howard Wynne of Kittrell; sisters, Mary Hilliard of Henderson and Virginia Finch of Kittrell; brother, Henry Wynne of Henderson; and grandchildren, Jennifer, Brad, Jessica, Tiffany and Natalie Wynne.

David N. Hayes
HENDERSON -- David Newell Hayes, 94, of 1499 Cheeks Quarter Road, Henderson, N.C., died Wednesday, August 29, 2001, in a local nursing home.
Born in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Samuel Lemuel and Martha Elizabeth Hicks Hayes. He was the widower of Onnie E. Hayes.
Mr. Hayes was a retired farmer in the Epsom community, where he was born and raised. He was a lifelong member of New Bethel Baptist Church, where he sang in the church choir and had perfect attendance in Sunday School for thirty-five years.
Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, at 11 a.m., in New Bethel Baptist Church cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Robert Kelley.
Surviving are three daughters, Lois H. Major of Henderson, Mary H. Young of Raleigh, and Sadie H. Lassiter, and husband William “Bill,” of Roanoke, Va., and Henderson; a son, Perry R. Hayes, and wife, Elizabeth “Lib,” of Henderson; a sister, Pauline H. Bartholomew of Henderson; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary H. Smith, Sallie H. Stone and Bessie H. Renn; and four brothers, Lemuel T. Hayes, Henry S. Hayes, Otha L. Hayes and Sidney G. Hayes.
The family will receive friends tonight, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home of Perry and Lib Hayes, 1061 Tollie Weldon Road, Henderson.

Isaac R. July Sr.
HENDERSON -- Isaac Richard July Sr., 68, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, in Fayetteville after an extended illness. He was an Edgecombe County native and the son of the late Rev. John Alexander and Elizabeth Lewis Williams July.
At an early age, he joined St. James Baptist Church, where he was a devoted member.
He was a 1951 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Rocky Mount. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force, serving as a communication specialist. In 1959, he graduated from North Carolina A&T State University with a bachelor of arts degree in music education.
He became a band director and music teacher in Vance County Schools for more than 11 years, many of them as band director of the former Henderson Institute. The band received many local, state and regional awards under his direction in marching band, concert band and assemblies. He later received his master of science degree in counseling from Kansas State University. He continued his career in education as an at-risk counselor with the Mecklenburg County Schools in Charlotte, retiring in 1992.
Surviving are his wife, Dr. Fannie M. July; two daughters, Kim Tillman Graham of Rocky Mount and Earlest Elizabeth July of Detroit; one son, Isaac July Jr. of Washington, D.C.; two grandchildren; four sisters, Marguerite W. Thompson and Mable Williams Hines, both of Rocky Mount, Mary July Jenkins of Washington, D.C., and Martha July Roberson of Tyler, Texas; and three brothers, Luther July of Washington, D.C., Norfleet July of Springfield Gardens, N.Y., and Henry July of Berkeley, Calif.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at St. James Baptist Church in Rocky Mount by the Rev. Cornelis Moore and Dr. Lawrence Miller. Interment will follow in the Sand Hills Veterans cemetery in Fayetteville.
The family will receive friends at the church from 9 to 10 a.m. and other times at the home, 1237 Exeter Lane, Fayetteville.
Viewing will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service in Henderson and from 8 to 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
Pallbearers will be members of the Class of 1951 Booker T. Washington High School. Floral bearers will be St. James Church Missionary members.

Veary S. Eaton
OXFORD -- Veary S. Eaton, 81, of 414 Granville St. died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at his residence. He was the son of the late Putner Eaton and Mamie Parker Eaton.
He was a retired farmer and a member of Ilong Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Ilong Baptist Church by the Rev. James M. Lawson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two sisters, Courtney E. Eisbey of Burlington and Vinell E. Hicks of Oxford.
The family will receive visitors at the church 30 minutes before the services.
Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Wright Funeral Home.

Robert E. Gooch
CREEDMOOR -- Robert Earl Gooch, 64, of 306 Wilton Ave. died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Edgar and Lorine Henley Gooch.
He was of the Methodist faith, a former city commissioner, an avid hunter, and owner and operator of Stevenson’s Grocery in Creedmoor for more than 30 years.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Creedmoor Cem-etery by the Rev. Ray Gooch.
Surviving are his wife, Velma Stevenson Gooch; a son, Steven E. Gooch; two sisters, Dorothy G. Pruitt of Oxford and Sue G. Bunn of Raleigh; and a brother, Harold W. Gooch of Wilton.

Nathaniel M. Hilliard Sr.
WARRENTON -- Nathaniel Morton Hilliard Sr., 79, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson. He was a native of Norlina and the son of the late Peter Edwards Hilliard and Evelyn Fleming Hilliard.
He was manager of the Rose’s Store in Warrenton for 42 years, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the Warrenton Baptist Church, Woodmen of the World and the TPA Association.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Warren Dale cemetery in Norlina by the Rev. David Brooks.
Surviving are his wife, Frances T. Hilliard; one son, Nathaniel M. Hilliard Jr. of the home; one daughter, Faye Hilliard Raynor of Highland Village, Texas; and one grandson.

HENDERSON -- Raheen James Holden, infant son of Julius Patrick Holden and Petrina Perry, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Graveside services will be conducted at noon Saturday at Rowland Chapel United Church of Christ cemetery by the Rev. Isaac Thomas.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are three brothers, Jamarcus Perry, Dajon Perry and Jaheem Patrick Holden; his maternal grandmother, Patricia Perry; and his paternal grandparents, Sadie Kelly and Kelvin Holden.

Richard Y. Moebius
RIDGEWAY -- Richard Yehling “Dick” Moebius, 78, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at his residence in Georgia. He was a native of Rush Lake, Minn., and the son of the late Rev. Johannes and Dorothea Yehling Moebius.
He grew up in Ridgeway, lived in Hartfield, Pa., and was a resident of Carnesville, Ga., for the past 14 years. He was a retired truck driver and U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ridgeway. The family will receive friends from noon to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Surviving are his wife, Delores Teresa Falelli Moebius of Hartfield, Pa.; one son, Navy Capt. Richard C. Moebius of Callaway, Md.; three daughters, Elise Margaret Cartledge of Doylestown, Pa., Christine Carol Defoore of Virginia Beach, Va., and JoAnn McGinnis of Doylestown, Pa.; two sisters, Paula M. Barkstedt of Denton, Md., and Dorothea M. Hart of Great Falls, Va.; and eight grandchildren.

HENDERSON -- Gloria Jean Mosley, 44, of 1695 Gunclub Road died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at Triangle Hospice of Hillsborough. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late James Eugene Mosley and Geraldine Brownson Mosley Powell.
She attended Vance County Schools and Vance-Granville Community College.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Michael Creek Baptist Church by minister Gracie Perry. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Kimberly Mosley of Henderson; one son, Kelvin Mosley of Fayetteville; one brother, Eugene Mosley of Durham; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Judy Thompson, 2458 Rockmill Road, next to Mount Olive Baptist Church. The body will be on view at the church one hour before the service.
