Roosevelt Taylor Jr.
SCHNECTADY, N.Y. -- Roosevelt Taylor Jr., 69, of Schnectady, N.Y., died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, in New York. He was a native of Walkerton, Va., and the son of Roosevelt Taylor Sr. and Nancy Wright.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Redbud Baptist Church by the Rev. J.E. Hall. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Bernice Taylor of Schnectady; one son, Roosevelt Taylor III of Washington, D.C.; one daughter, Anita Darcel Taylor of Washington, D.C.; and brothers, Robert Taylor and Garrett Taylor of Walkerton, Va., David Taylor of Philadelphia, James Taylor of Nashville, Tenn.

Edith H. Denning
BENSON -- Edith Holmes Denning, 84, of 2113 Benson-Hardee Road, died Sunday, July 15, 2001, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Joseph and Lizzi Preddy Holmes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde S. Denning.
She was a member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church and was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church by the Revs. Warren Bock and Glenn McCullen. Burial will follow in the Denning Family cemetery.
Surviving are one son, Robert S. Denning of Benson; daughter, Sue Frances Bailey of Henderson; sister, Mary H. Coats of Dunn; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will be at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson from 7 to 9 p.m. today and other times at the home of Robert S. Denning, 807 Denning Road in Benson.

William J. Lunsford
STEM -- William J. Lunsford, 68, of 1718 Tally Ho Road, died Monday, July 16, 2001, at Durham Regional Hospital. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late William King and Mattie Weary Lunsford.
He was of the Baptist faith and was retired from the textile industry.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by Dr. Randy Pittman. Burial will follow in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Surviving are his wife, Bobbie J. Lunsford of the home; two daughters, Pamela L. Chappell of Wendell and Tammy L. Hayes of Oxford; two stepdaughters, Debbie Lunsford of Stem and Lynn Taylor of Butner; three sons, Danny James Lunsford and Marshall Lunsford, both of Henderson, and Lawrence Lunsford of Oxford; two stepsons, Johnnie Walker of Stem and C.J. Dixon of Durham; two sisters, Lizzie Solomon of Semora and Mary Belle Compton of Oxford; a brother, Douglas Lunsford of Stovall; and 18 grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home.

Billie G. Meadows
OXFORD -- Billie Goss Meadows, 74, of 4624 James Royster Road, died Sunday, July 15, 2001. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late William L. and Nevada Green Goss.
She was a member of Providence Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Providence Baptist Church by Dr. Randy Pittman and the Rev. Irvin Adcock. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas R. Meadows of the home; one son, Thomas R. Meadows Jr. of Rougemont; two daughters, Frances Meadows Allen of Chapel Hill and Vickey Meadows Thornton of Raleigh; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Providence Baptist Church, 4603 Old Hwy. 75, Oxford, N.C. 27565.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home.

William Wallace
William Elmo Wallace Sr., 87, of Hopewell, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2001 at his home at 2409 City Point Road in Hopewell, Va.
He was the son of the late John Thomas and Maggie Tillotson Wallace of Durham, N.C. Mr. Wallace was born in Vance County, N.C. on Dec. 19, 1913 and he was a member of Island Creek Baptist Church, Oxford, N.C.
He was assistant manager of the P.X. at Camp Butner, N.C., during World War II. He came to Hopewell with the John L. Lewis Union and retired after 23 years as an operator at Hercules.
Mr. Wallace was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He was known for his kindness and “being there” in times of need.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his oldest son, John Lewis Wallace, three brothers and five sisters.
Surviving are his devoted wife of 65 years, Catherine Gupton Wallace;
three daughters and their husbands: Betty and Ken Prince of Colonial Heights, Frances and Kenny Hatcher of Mechanicsville and Elizabeth and David Baker of Chesterfield; two sons and their wives: William E. Wallace Jr. and Jean of Prince George (all in Virginia) and Dewey Wayne Wallace and Linda of Milford, Del.
In addition, he is survived by 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Gould Chapel, Nelsen Funeral Home,
Hopewell, and interment took place at Bermuda Memorial Park in Chesterfield, Va.
Susie G. Abbott
WAKE FOREST -- Susie Garnett Abbott, age 52, a resident of 7901 River Ridge Road, died Monday at Wake Medical Center. She was a native of Vance Co. and was the daughter of the late Henry Jordan and Susie Geraldine Dickerson Abbott.
She was a member of the South Henderson Church of God and United Methodist Women at Knightdale United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at the South Henderson Church of God by the Rev. Gary Harper and the Rev. Stacey Graves. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
She is survived by two sisters, Shirley Peoples and husband W.A. of Wake Forest and Mary Temple and husband Dennis of Henderson; two brothers, Millard Thomas “Tommy” Abbott and wife Jean and Macon Abbott and wife Barbara, all of Henderson; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and great-great-nieces and -nephews.
The family received friends Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of W.A. and Shirley Peoples at 7901 River Ridge Road, Wake Forest, and at the home of Dennis and Mary Temple at 3721 U.S. 1 & 158 Hwy., Henderson, N.C.
Serving as active pallbearers will be her nephews.

Willie L.R. Adcock
OXFORD -- Willie Lee Riggan Adcock, 86, of 4017 Salem Road died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Granville Medical Center. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late Richard James and Lucy Hobgood Riggan.
She was a member of Oxford Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Oxford Baptist Church by Dr. Steve Bolton and the Rev. Bob Wainwright. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, James Astor Adcock; a daughter, Patricia A. Oakley of Oxford; four sons, James A. Adcock Jr. of Richmond, Larry K. Adcock, Ray E. Adcock and Richard R. Adcock, all of Oxford; two sisters, Nettie R. Dickerson of Oxford and Eleanor R. Davis of Granite Falls; two brothers, Johnny Riggan of Butner and Rowland Riggan of Conover; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home.

WARRENTON -- Johanna L. Milam, 46, of the Connell Road community in Warrenton died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at her residence.

Esther R. Williams
HENDERSON -- Esther McKinley Roberson Williams, 85, of 310 Keene St. died Monday morning, July 16, 2001, in a local nursing home. She was a native of Vance County and was the daughter of the late Newton W. and Victoria Ann Franklin Roberson and widow of Edward Lee “Slim” Williams.
She was retired from Guardian Care Nursing Home, where she was a nurse’s aid. She was an active charter member of the Raleigh Road Baptist Church and the Lydia Sunday School Class.
Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Raleigh Road Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Kelley. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
She is survived by two daughters, Peggy W. Renn of Henderson and Shirley W. Strickland of Raleigh; one son, the Rev. George Williams of Henderson; one sister, Gracie R. Delmore of St. Paul, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Lee Williams Sr.
The family received friends Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of George Williams at 2121 Francis Ave.
Serving as active pallbearers will be G.L. Roberson, Phillip Roberson, Harold Roberson, Marvin Roberson, C.N. Roberson Jr. and Ernest McFarland.

Esther C. Carter
OXFORD -- Esther Crews Carter, 69, of 6125 Cornwall Road died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at her residence.
She was a retired educator with the Granville County school system and a former employee of the Granville County Department of Social Services. She was a member of Timothy Darling Presbyterian Church and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wright Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Dawes family cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Lesa Carter of the home; two sons, Larry Keith Carter of Durham and Brian Carter of Tennessee; one brother, Jerome Crews Jr. of Oxford; four stepchildren; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wright Funeral Home.
Hervone ‘Buster’ Carter
OXFORD -- Hervone “Buster” Carter, 77, of 345 Henderson St. died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Durham.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Wright Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Lacy Joyner. Burial will be in Sand Hills State Veterans cemetery in Fayetteville.
Surviving are one daughter, Jerrie Bradley of Pasadena, Calif.; her mother, Lillian Fields Roquemore of Pasadena; one sister, Cleo Edwards of Pasadena; two brothers, Robert Roquemore and John Roquemore, both of Altadena, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The body will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Wright Funeral Home.
Zaria Mona Lewis and
Zara Monique Lewis
HENDERSON -- Zaria Mona Lewis and Zara Monique Lewis, twin infant daughters of Latoya Davis and Eugene Duran Lewis, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Surviving, in addition to their parents, are the maternal grandparents, Cynthia Faulkner and William Warren; the paternal grandparents, Maria Scott and Plummer Lewis; two sisters, Shechinah Davis and Dajna Lewis; a maternal great-grandmother, Josephine Davis Taylor; and a paternal great-grandmother, Mary Lewis.
Graveside services will be held at 5 p.m. Friday at Mount Olive Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will be at 106 Carmel Ridge Road, Henderson.

HENDERSON -- Hilda Euretha Adams, 80, formerly of 307 Keene St., Henderson, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, in a local nursing home. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Esker R. and Carrie Williams Adams.
She was a retired employee of Purolator Inc. and was a member of North Henderson Baptist Church.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Carey Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Danielle Kirkland.
Surviving are three sisters, Meta A. Davis of Angier, Carrie A. McFall of Henderson and Shirley A. O’Neal of Wanchese; and a brother, Donald R. Adams of Winston-Salem.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home of her sister Carrie McFall, 1532 Lynne Ave., Henderson.

NORLINA -- Kathryn D. Bullock, 45, of Norlina died Monday, July 16, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

Surviving are two sons, Kelvin Steven and Roy Lamont Bullock, both of the home; her mother, Elizabeth Hargrove Bullock of Oine; two sisters, Mary E. Bullock of Temple Hills, Md., and Linda Ann Bullock of Oine; and one brother, Albert Bullock Jr. of Warrenton.

OXFORD -- Sarah Baker Elliott, 66, of 908 Roxboro Road died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at her residence. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late Allan P. and Mattie Bentley Baker.
She was a member of Hester Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Leslie Giles. Burial will follow in Hester Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Julius F. Elliott; two daughters, Teresa Elliott of Fayetteville and LuAnne Elliott of Oxford; one son, Jay Elliott of Summerfield; two siblings, Allan P. Baker Jr. of Oxford and Charles Currin of Clearwater, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren.

HENDERSON -- Clarence M. Ellis, 75, of the Senior Citizens Home died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
The family will be at 614 Powell St.

Thomas Henderson
MANSON -- Thomas Henderson, 79, has died. He was a native of Manson and the son of the late Gabriel and Lucenda Henderson. He was one of 10 children, with five sisters and four brothers.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1946. He relocated to Philadelphia and worked for the Reading and Pennsylvania Railroad for 32 years until retirement.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at New Salem Baptist Church in Philadelphia, with viewing scheduled to be held from 9 to 10 a.m.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth Henderson; two stepdaughters, Anna Lee Taylor of New York and Jo Dorothy Frazer of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; one brother, James Henderson; and several grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Ray Funeral Home of Philadelphia.
Merritt Kimball
WARRENTON -- Merritt Kimball, 86, of the Olive Grove community died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at the Warren Hills Nursing Facilities in Warrenton.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday at Olive Grove Baptist Church in Littleton by the Rev. Charles E. Walton, pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Pattie Hawkins Kimball of Littleton; one daughter, Alice Swannetta; two sons, Charles Stephen and Nathaniel Agusta; seven grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Bertha Bean, Lila Miller and Eloise Brown.
