Delores Wright
HENDERSON — Delores Annette Alston Wright, 46, of 54 Acorn Lane died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of Mary Wilson Davis and the late Herman Alston. She was the stepdaughter of James Edward Davis.
She was educated in Franklin County public schools and was employed at CVS as a security guard.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. today at Feggins-Feggins Funeral Home Chapel in Wake Forest. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Baptist Church cemetery in Franklin County.
Surviving are her husband, Jones “Bill” Wright; four daughters, Shawonda “Nick” Noel and Deaven “Omar” Dunston, both of Henderson, and Tonica “Jerome” Boyd and Latoya Wright, both of Warrenton; one brother, James Thomas Davis of Spring Valley, N.Y.; and one sister, Lucy Betty Thorpe of Spring Valley, N.Y.; and 12 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Pallbearers and floral bearers will be friends of the family.

WARRENTON — Marilyn Evans, 15, of Manson died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at United Solid Rock Faith Ministries in Warrenton. The Rev. Moore H. Bynam, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Holy Church cemetery in Townsville.
Surviving are her mother, Veronica Evans of the home; her father, Calvin Evans Sr. of Townsville; one brother, Sgt. Calvin Evans Jr. of the U.S. Marine Corps in Cherry Point; one sister, LaSheka Evans of Winston-Salem; her maternal grandmother, Addie Hargrove Rose of Manson; and her paternal grandmother, Annie L. Evans of Townsville.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton.

HENDERSON — Eugene Plummer, 87, of 701 Powell St. died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at the Guardian Care nursing facility.

Lucy K. Williams
OXFORD — Lucy King Williams, 84, of 112 military St. died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at her home. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Casa Orell and Mattie Wilkerson King. She was the widow of Dudley B. Williams Sr.
She was a member of Oxford Presbyterian Church and was a retired bookkeeper for the D.B. Williams Construction Co. of Oxford.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oxford Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Norman MacDowell. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Ann Williams Currin of Oxford; two sons, Dudley B. Williams Jr. of Oxford and Alex A. Williams of Kill Devil Hills; a sister, Virginia T. King of Oxford; a brother, Kenneth King of Henderson; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be given to Oxford Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 652, Oxford, N.C. 27565.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home of Dudley and Maxine Williams, 302 Hunters Road in Oxford.

Ruby Y. Elliott
OXFORD -- Ruby Young Elliott, 84, of 7684 Jack Adcock Road died Friday, June 29, 2001, in Granville Medical Center. She was a Granville County native, the daughter of the late Ossie and Lizzie Culbreth Young, and the widow of James R. Elliott.
She was retired from Burlington Industries’ Oxford plant and was a member of Amis Chapel Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Yolanda Elliott Blair and Rubie Joe Elliott, both of Oxford; one son, J.G. Elliott of Oxford; two sisters, Lois Y. Vaughan and Mary Helen Smith, both of Oxford; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Amis Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. James E. Pollard. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

HENDERSON -- Michael Lamont Jones, 24, of 6 Ranes Drive died Thursday, June 28, 2001.

Ronald B. Mathews
OXFORD -- The Rev. Ronald Bryan Mathews, 67, of 1110 College St. died Friday, June 29, 2001, at Oxford Manor. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Richard H. and Roberta Cox Mathews.
He was a member of and was serving as pastor of Jeffress Baptist Church in Clarksville, Va.
After serving eight years in the U.S. Air Force, he attended business school in Goldsboro. He is a graduate of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary at Wake Forest. He was ordained as a deacon and minister in the Stovall Baptist Church. He served as business manager at Grey Stone Baptist Church in Durham for five years. He then became pastor of Jeffress Baptist Church, where he served 10 years.
Surviving are his wife, Ann W. Mathews; one daughter, Cyndi M. Bowen of Oxford; two brothers, Richard H. Mathews Jr. of Columbia, S.C., and David L. “Snug” Mathews of Oxford; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday at Stovall Baptist Church by the Revs. Patrick Cox and George Custer. Burial will follow in Meadowview Memorial Park. V. Edward Rawles Jr.
HENDERSON -- Vernon Edward “Ed” Rawles Jr., 92, of 117 Burwell Avenue, Henderson, died Friday, June 29, 2001, at his home.
Born in Nansemond County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Vernon Edward Rawles Sr. and Ava Turner Rawles.
Mr. Rawles was the retired owner and operator of the former Rawles Grocery and Market. He was an agent for Smith Douglas Fertilizer for some thirty-three years. He was a former employee of First National Bank and had served on the Board of Directors of Henderson Savings and Loan Company.
He was a fifty-nine-year member of the Henderson Masonic Lodge #229 A.F. & A.M. He was a member of the Henderson York Rite Bodies and the Blandford Bute Council #18 Allied Masonic Degrees, the Sudan Shrine Temple, and the Henderson Shrine Club, where he served as treasurer from 1970 to 1982. He was Henderson Shrine Club “Shriner of the Year” in 1980.
He was a charter member and served as the first president of the Henderson Exchange Club, was a charter member and Director Emeritus of the Vance County Historical Society. He was a former member of the Vance County Zoning Board and was a registered owner of a North Carolina Century Farm.
He was a member and Deacon Emeritus of First Congregational Christian Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees and the Finance Committee.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, at 2 p.m., in First Congregational Christian Church, conducted by the Rev. George E. Williams. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are his wife of seventy-two years, Lula Mae Newman Rawles; three daughters, Betty R. Wall and husband Douglas of Wake Forest, Nancy R. Edmonds and husband Billy of Henderson, and Kaye R. Grissom and husband Bill of Henderson; a son-in-law, Macy V. Stainback of Henderson; eleven grandchildren, Eddie Stainback and wife Patsy, Kathy S. Anstead and husband Tommy, Kenny Stainback, William Edmonds III and wife Tracey, all of Henderson, Michael Wall and wife Sarah of Raleigh, Phyllis W. Carson and husband Tony of Baltimore, Md., Larry Wall and wife Brenda of Sharpsburg, N.C., Barry Wall and wife Janet of Rolesville, N.C., Evelyn E. Gay and husband Alan of Nashville, N.C., Wendy G. Tillotson and husband David of Durham, and Brian Grissom and wife Teresa of Lenoir, N.C.; and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Odelle R. Stainback, and two sisters, Ruby R. Barnes and Thelma R. McHenry.
The family will receive friends tonight, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be members of the Henderson Shrine Club. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Henderson Shrine Club and Henderson Masonic Lodge.

Claude A. Scott
HENDERSON -- Claude Augusta Scott, 58, of 465 Morgan Road died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at IHS of Durham. He was a Vance County native and the son of Cora Ann Jefferson Scott and the late Sidney Scott Sr.
He attended Vance County public schools and was a farmer until his health failed him in 1995.
He was a member of Antioch United Church of Christ, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. John E. Durham and Evangelist Tina Evans. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his mother, Cora Ann Scott of the home; four sisters, Louvionetta Henderson of Townsville, Joyce Pettaway of Buffalo Junction, Va., Reginia Henderson of Henderson and Rosa Hargrove of Maryland; and three brothers, Sidney Scott and Reginald Scott, both of Henderson, and Lenward Scott of Townsville.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Services and other times at the residence below New Hope School.
The body will lie in state one hour at the church before the service.

James P. White
FAYETTEVILLE James P. White, (also known as J.P. or Spunick) died Thursday, June 21, 2001, in Fayetteville.
He was born on May 14, 1957 to Shirley White and the late Alvin White in Brooklyn, New York. Later he moved with his family to Henderson where he attended and graduated from Vance Senior High. After high school he joined the United States Army. He served for a 20 year team, retiring in 1996. In December 1999, he graduated with honors from Fayetteville State University, receiving a B.S. degree in Sociology.
Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, July 1, 2001, at Williams Chapel FWB Church in Spring Lake. Burial will follow in Sandhills State Veterans cemetery.
He was always willing to give a helping hand to those in need. He was also known for taking on many tasks at one time like his homeless shelter, maintaining his work study job at the V.A. Medical Center, being the director of the choir at Victory Through Christ Pentecostal Ministries. In doing all that he never neglected his duties as a single father. He often volunteered at Pine Forest High School and being there when needed for his daughter’s AFJROTC at the school.
James has been involved in many organizations a few are the vice president of the Sociology club at Fayetteville State University, the 24th Infantry Division Voices of Victory Chorus, the Voices of Unity, member of Community Watch in University Estates, AAFES Employee Association. He attended many churches, a few are Burning Bush Holiness Church, Victory Through Christ Pentecostal Ministries and later joined Williams Chapel F.W.B. Church, where he recently was saved and baptized.
He leaves to cherish his memory, two loving daughters, Katina (Frank) Wade of Hattiesburg, Ms. Shirlena White (Missy) of the home; two sons, Robert (Lisa) Robinson of Fayetteville, James (Charita) White (Mann) of Wiesbaden Germany; three grandchildren, Julian, Dawon, Kameshia; his mother, Shirley White of Henderson; three sisters, Renee (Trent) Bennett of Henderson, Kim (Marvin) Cooper of Des Moines, Iowa, Susan (Lee) Harris of Henderson; three brothers, Alvin (Naomi) White of Austell, Ga., George White and Joseph White, both of Henderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, saints, friends and very special friend, sister-in-law Vicky Jones of Hinesville, Ga.
He also was preceded in death by his best friend Louis Brumfield.

Harvey Alston Jr.
WARRENTON -- Harvey Alston Jr., 65, of Raleigh, formerly of Warrenton, died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at United Solid Rock Faith Ministries in Warrenton. The Rev. Moore H. Bynum will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Lucille Bullock Alston; five children, Ricky Alston, Brenda Alston, Rennie Alston, Chantal Alston and Michelle Jackson; nine grandchildren; his mother, Greta Alston; five sisters, Fletchus Brown, Lossie Helms, Lurlene Ellington, Laraine Walton and Melvenia Smith; and two brothers, Elvin Alston and Montellio Alston.
The body will be on view at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton on Monday until taken to the church one hour before the service.

WARRENTON -- William McKinley Bullock, 47, of the Oine community died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Level United Church of Christ in Manson by the Rev. Leon White, pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Gloria Hendricks Bullock; two sons, William and Ronnie Bullock, both of the home; one daughter, Ernestine Bullock of Henderson; his mother, Elizabeth Hargrove Bullock of Norlina; two grandchildren; three sisters, Mary E. Bullock of Silver Spring, Md., and Delores Bullock and Linda Ann Bullock, both of Norlina; and one brother, Albert Bullock of Norlina.

ATLANTA -- Maude Alice Gupton Eads, 69, a resident of Atlanta, died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at Dekalb Medical Center in Atlanta. She was a native of Franklin County and was the daughter of the late Lewis and Nannie Reams Gupton.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Philip Walker. Burial will follow in the Gupton family cemetery on Anderson Creek Road.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas L. Eads Sr.; two daughters, Sonja Elliott Whitlow and Linda Elliott Satterfield, both of South Boston, Va.; two sons, Larry Elliott of South Boston and Claude Mulchi of Cadillac, Mich.; two stepdaughters, Deborah Eads Roberson of Duluth, Ga., and Regina Eads of Norcross, Ga.; two stepsons, Thomas L. Eads Jr. of Hoschton, Ga., and Joseph Eads of Clarkston, Ga.; three sisters, Blanche G. Stevenson of Henderson, Catherine G. Wallace of Hopewell, Va., and Irene G. Lugo of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, Rodgers Gupton and Alvin Gupton, both of Henderson; six grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Blanche G. Stevenson, 229 Green St.

LOUISBURG -- William Earl Ellis, 54, of White Level Road died Friday, June 29, 2001, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. He was the son of the late Willie Eugene “Bo” Ellis and Margaret Lynch Ellis.
Cryptside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel.
Surviving are his wife, Jean Wester Ellis; one son, Christopher William Ellis of Raleigh; and two brothers, Amos Eugene “Sonny” Ellis of Louisburg and Milton Hunter Ellis Sr. of Chase City, Va.

OXFORD -- Tyrone “Fred” McAllister, 25, of 128 Green St. died Friday, June 29, 2001, at Granville Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Island Hill United Christian Church in Clarksville, Va., by the Rev. Curtis McCrea. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are a son, Joseph McAllister of the home; a mother, Henrietta Pearson McAllister of the home; four sisters, Carolyn D. Little of Charlotte, Sherry D. Anderson of Oxford, Nekita Garrick of Germany and Shelly Holland of Charlottesville, Va.; a maternal grandmother, Annis S. Pearson of Clarksville, Va.; and a paternal grandmother, Arddie McAllister of Jersey City, N.J.

Eugene W. Plummer
HENDERSON -- Eugene Wesley Plummer, 87, of 701 Powell St. died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at the Guardian Care nursing facility. He was a Warren County native and son of the late John F. Plummer Sr. and Beatrice Yancey Plummer.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II, and was a member of Manson Baptist Church, which he joined at an early age. Upon moving to Durham, he became a member of St. Joseph A.M.E. Church in Durham.
He was the widower of Eva Johnson Plummer.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon Monday at Brookston Baptist Church by the Revs. Thomas Smith and Philip Cousin Jr. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two brothers, John Plummer of Henderson and Thomas Plummer of Soul City.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Pallbearers will be stewards of St. Joseph A.M.E. Church. Floral bearers will be missionary sisters of the church.

Nancy W. Smith
CREEDMOOR -- Nancy Weaver Smith, 57, of 1568 Lonely Oak Drive died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at her home. She was a Durham County native and the daughter of Hazelene Roycroft Weaver and the late Eulis Weaver.
She was of the Pentecostal faith and owned a florist shop in Henderson before her illness.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor by the Rev. Don Brown. Burial will be in the Carolina Memorial Gardens.
In addition to her mother and her husband, Thomas G. Smith of the home, survivors include two daughters, Barbara A. Barksdale of Oxford and Pamela B. Smith of Creedmoor; a son, Adam L. Weaver of Creedmoor; two sisters, Maria N. Collins of Raleigh and Annie W. Miller of Creedmoor; two brothers, Alvis T. Weaver and Linwood Weaver, both of Creedmoor; and four grandchildren.
