HENDERSON -- Clarence Lee Branch, 94, of 97 Branch Lane, Henderson, died Sunday, April 22, 2001.

Ralph Bumpass
OXFORD -- Ralph Bumpass, 55, of 8134 Ramon Royster Road, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at his home. He was a Granville County native and attended Granville County Public Schools.
Surviving are his wife, Martha J. Bumpass; three sons, Kenneth Bumpass, Darry Bumpass and Donald Bumpass, all of Oxford; three daughters, Loretta Bumpass, Sharon Bumpass and Shawn Bumpass, all of Oxford; his mother, Rodelia Bumpass of Oxford; three brothers, Ernest Reed, William Dee Brooks and Woodrow Brooks, all of Oxford; four sisters, Tammy Brooks and Carolyn R. Yancey, both of Oxford, Delois R. Reavis of Paterson, N.J., and Patricia R. McNeil of Bronx, N.Y.; and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew Baptist Church. The Rev. Jimmie L. Johnson will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Betts & Son Funeral Home of Oxford.

Jewell M. Callihan
ELIZABETHTOWN -- Jewell Medlin Callihan, 80, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elizabethtown Baptist Church by the Rev. David Elks. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown City cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Curtis E. Callihan of the home; three daughters, Jewell C. Prichard of Elizabethtown, Linda C. Curtis of Roanoke Rapids and Cathy C. Gantz of Columbus, Md.; four sisters, Johnnie Lippard of Concord, Miriam Dupree of Louisburg, Ann Pulliam of Columbia and Blanche Chappell of Butner; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Elizabethtown Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice or Elizabethtown Baptist Church.

Robert T. ‘Bobby’ Horton
HENDERSON -- Robert Thomas “Bobby” Horton, Sr., age 65, a resident of 744 Old Warrenton Road died Sunday morning in Franklin, Va., from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
He was a native of Vance County and was the son of the late Marvin W. Horton and Nora Hurt Horton Stallings. He was a Veteran of the U. S. Army and was the owner and operator of the former TB&R Convenience Store. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church, the American Legion, and the South Hill, Virginia Moose Lodge.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Wilbert Horton and the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial will follow in the New Sandy Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Adcox Horton, of the home; two daughters, Tammy H. Pearce and Scarlett H. Ellis both of Henderson; one son, Robert Thomas “Robbie” Horton, Jr. of Henderson; one foster-son, Bobby West, of the home; one sister, Pearl H. Payner of Norlina; three half-sisters, Dollie S. Ellington, Kate S. Strickland, and Princella S. Owens all of Kittrell; one brother, Vester Horton, of Henderson; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home on the Old Warrenton Road.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Dan Weldon, Howard Bobbitt, Marvin Ross, Stephanie Murphy, Mike Cleveland, Dale Wilcox, and Roger Hurt.

Robert L. Moss
OXFORD -- Robert Lee Moss, 96, of 1029 Lewis St., died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at Brantwood Nursing Center. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Walter Philip Moss and Mary Jackson Moss.
He was a former member of Knotts Grove Church and was retired owner and operator of Sprinkle Service Station.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Revs. Bob Baynard and Steve Smith. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Surviving are his wife, Eunice Denny Moss of the home; a daughter, Carolyn Moss Watkins of Oxford; a sister, Virginia M. Sanford of Oxford; a brother, Walter Moss Jr. of Oxford; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Dorothy F. Parham
OXFORD -- Dorothy Frazier Parham, 90, formerly of 2725 Davis Chapel Road, died Monday, April 23, 2001, at Granville Medical Center. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late Elijah and Cornelia Hart Frazier. She was the widow of Alex L. Parham Sr.
She was a member of Mt. Creek Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Creek Baptist Church by Dr. Delos Miles and the Rev. Lemar Wheeler. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Vivian P. Williams of Durham; three sons, Charles L. Parham of Buffalo Junction, Va., Gene W. Parham and Alex L. Parham Jr., both of Oxford; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Daniel S. Stanley
HENDERSON -- Daniel Singleton “Dan” Stanley, age 72, a resident of 1176 U. S. 158 Bypass, died Monday morning, April 23, 2001, at his home.
He was a life-long Vance County resident and was the son of the late Leon F. Stanley and Ora Inscoe Stanley Pruitt. He was educated in the Vance County schools and was a proponent of life-long learning. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving with the Second Marine Division in China and the Far East in peacekeeping missions following World War II. He was a past-master of the Henderson Masonic Lodge 229 AF&AM, past-president of the Henderson Shrine Club, and a member of the Henderson York Rite Bodies.
For a number of years, he was an officer of the Henderson Police Department, and at other times he was employed by the former Laurens Glass Company and Henderson Garment Company. At the time of his retirement because of declining health, he was a professional wallpaper hanger.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he served on the administrative board and was a former member of the Methodist Men.
Services will be held Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church by the Rev. Charles M. Cook and Dr. Marion D. Lark. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery with military honors..
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Carolyn Rowzee Stanley, of the home; one son Robert Daniel “Bob” Stanley of the home; three sisters, Laura Jane Lively, Dorothy Hope, and Irene Currin, all of Henderson; three brothers, W.D. “Jake” Stanley, Howard Stanley, and George Stanley all of Henderson.
Serving as active pallbearers will be D. Boyd Kimball, Cliff Rogers, Ralph Knott, Morris Wilson, Jimmie R. Ayscue, J.W. “Jimbo” Bowen Jr., I.H. Williamson Jr., Donald Seifert, Charles “Chuck” Hall, Tim Pegram, Eddie Fergerson, and C.T. Keeton Jr.
Serving as honorary pall bearers will be all members of the Henderson Masonic Lodge No. 229 AF&AM.

William Brady White
HENDERSON -- William Brady “Boo” White, Sr., age 74, a resident of 205 Willowood Drive, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at Duke Medical Center.
He was a native of Vance County and was the son of the late Herbert Price and Lucille Brady White. A veteran of the U. S. Army, he served during the Korean War, and was a graduate of North Carolina State University, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha. He was a retired sales manager of U.S. Plywood Corporation, a member of The Church Of The Holy Innocents where he was a member of the Choir, a master gardner and member of The Men’s Garden Club.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at The Church Of The Holy Innocents by the Rev. Daniel Barker.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Bachman White, of the home; one daughter, Janet White Steele of Richmond, Virginia; one son, William Brady White, Jr. of Baltimore, Maryland; one brother, Allen Grainger Brady of Port Of The Islands, Florida; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home at 205 Willowood Drive.

Edward W. Willis
BUTNER -- Edward W. “Pete” Willis, 79, of 115 Ridge Road, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at his home after a brief illness. He was a Rutherford County native and the son of the late Jessie and Lillie Buchanan Willis.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Butner, served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon and usher for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific during World War II, and was a retired textile dyer of Mt. Hope Finishing Co. He served as secretary of Butner Masonic Lodge No. 697 for the past 32 years and in 1994, he and his wife received the Book of Golden Deeds Award from the South Granville Exchange Club. He served on the C.A. Dillon Community Advisory Council until his illness.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Butner by Dr. Gene Garrison. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Pat Robinson Willis; a daughter, Rayna Willis Lester of Creedmoor; a son, Jim Willis of Gastonia; a sister, Helen Ollis of Marion; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Butner, Building Fund, P.O. Box 44, Butner, N.C. 27509.
The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the services in the church fellowship hall of the First Baptist Church in Butner and other times at the home.

Barker W. Wynne
KITTRELL -- Barker Warren “Buck” Wynne, age 79, a resident of 2275 S. Chavis Road, died Sunday morning, April 22, 2001, at the Durham VA Hospital.
He was a native of Warren County and was the son of the late Barker William and Blanche Knight Wynne. He was a member of the Union Chapel United Methodist Church, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Navy during World War II. He was a retired supervisor from Burlington Mills and a retired farmer.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jim Hines and the Rev. Grady Lane. Burial will follow in the Union Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery with military honors..
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Finch Wynne, of the home; three daughters, Brenda Wynne Cool of Hendersonville, Shirley Jean Wynne of Detroit, Mich., and Wanda Kaye Wynne of the home; five sisters, Ruby Walker and Ethel Moody, both of Hopewell, Va., Louise Bentley of Chicago, Faye Teasley of Bahama, N.C., and Catherine Fowler of Kittrell; one brother, Charles Wynne of Louisburg; and one granddaughter.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Tex Finch, Richard Coghill, Carl Finch, Claude Kerley Jr., J.D. Wilson, Roger Finch, Denny Williamson, and Perry Hilliard.

CREEDMOOR -- Stevie Ray Boyd, 38, of 1769 Currin Farm Trail died suddenly Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at his home.

RICHMOND, Va. -- Avis Tunstall Fox, 35, a native of Richmond, died in the University of North Carolina Hospital.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her mother, Gwendolyn Tunstall Alston, 400 Dabney Height Lane.

Alice O. Harris
HENDERSON -- Alice Olivia Harris, 68, of 242 Pearl St. died at her residence after a lengthy illness. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Abraham and Rosa Belle Harris.
She worked at J.P. Taylor Tobacco Co. before retirement.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Services by the Rev. Brenda Peace. Burial will follow in Blacknall cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, VaLinda Harris of the home and Wilma Harris of Henderson; two sons, James M. Harris of Henderson and Johnny Harris of Maury; 19 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to service time Thursday.

LOUISBURG -- Julia Lewis Thompson, 69, of Louisburg died Monday, April 24, 2001, at her home.

Surviving are one daughter, Barbara T. Collins of Epsom; three sons, Art Thompson and Ricky Thompson, both of Louisburg, and Greg Thompson of Spring Hope; one sister, Marie Tarkenton of Virginia Beach, Va.; two brothers, Glen Lewis of Roxboro and Horace Lewis of Farmville; and six grandchildren.

Stevie R. Boyd
CREEDMOOR -- Stevie Ray Boyd, 38, of 1769 Currin Farm Trail died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at his home. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Shirley and Mary Boyd.
He was of the Baptist faith and was medically retired.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor by the Rev. Joe Hicks. Burial will be in Creedmoor cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Carol Sandling Boyd; a daughter, Kelly Boyd of Creedmoor; two sons, Joey Boyd and Michael Boyd, both of Creedmoor; and three brothers, Wayne Boyd of Stem, Reid Boyd of Creedmoor and Danny Boyd of Oxford.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and at other times at the home.

HENDERSON -- Clarence Major Lee Branch, 96, of 97 Branch Lane died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at Guardian Care Nursing Facility in Henderson.
He was a Vance County native and the son of the late James Branch and Sallie Ann Clements Branch Williams. He was educated in Vance County public schools and was the widower of Ruby Milon Branch.
He was a member of Dickies Grove Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the deacon board and as a Sunday school teacher for many years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Dickies Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. A.B. Bass. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two sons, James Branch of Henderson and Clarence Branch Jr. of Philadelphia; two daughters, Mary B. Washington and Brennetta Hamilton, both of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, Granderson Branch of Henderson and Asa Branch of Philadelphia; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
The body will be on view at the church one hour before the service Saturday, with the family receiving friends from 10:45 a.m. until the service. They will receive friends all other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of the church. Floral bearers will be nieces.
