Patricia “Pat” Overby Dillard, 45, of Advance died December 22 at her home. She was born June 16, 1957, in Baltimore, Md., to Norman Gray Overby Sr. and Apacha Wall Overby. She was a member of Davie Baptist Church and was employed with Lee Jeans.
Surviving are her parents, Sid and Pat Overby; a son, William Russell Lane of Lewisville; a daughter, April Gordon Todd and husband Doug of Advance; two sisters, Bobbi Shell and husband Barry of Advance, and Norma O. Pettyjohn and husband Jim of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Ronnie Overby and wife Billie of Lexington and Norman G. Overby Jr. and wife Annette of Winston-Salem; an ex sister-in-law, Tonya Overby of Mocksville; three aunts, Marie Moran of Walnut Cove, Lee Ellen Wall of Advance and Betty Smith of King; two uncles, Colon “Boodie” Overby of Winston-Salem and Ralph Overby of Fayetteville; and nine nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Davie Baptist Church with Rev. Aaron Carter officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery.

Glenda Faye Rivenbark Bland
Glenda Faye Rivenbark Bland, 64, of Lexington died December 19 at her home. She was born December 18, 1938, in Wayne County to Thomas and Elizabeth Overton Rivenbark.
Surviving are her husband, James Bland of the home; a daughter, Anita Owens and husband Keith of Lexington; a son, Richard Bland of the home; a grandson, Bradley Kent Owens of Lexington; three sisters, Patricia Waters and husband Buddy of Dudley, Melinda Rivenbark Barwick of Wilmington and Teresa Peardon and Lawrence Cranfill of Clemmons; and two brothers, Jackie Paul Rivenbark and wife Ann of Grantham, and Jerry Rivenbark and wife Becky of Lucama.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Harold Fletcher officiating, and entombment followed in Parklawn Mausoleum.

Calvin Eugene Hunter Sr.
Calvin Eugene Hunter Sr., 69, of Clemmons died December 20 at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born April 3, 1933, in Winston-Salem, to the late Rother Perry Hunter and the late Robbie Green Hunter, who preceded him in death. He was a painter by trade.
Surviving are a sister, Barbara Hunter Brown of Winston-Salem; three daughters, Kim Parker and husband Wendell of Tampa, Fla., and Kathy Miller and Robin Neal, both of Winston-Salem; four sons, Larry Welch, Terry Phelps, Calvin Hunter Jr. and Rother Hunter, all of Winston-Salem; a devoted brother-in-law, Benjamin Brown of Winston-Salem; a devoted niece and caregiver, Evette Abbott and husband Edward; another devoted caregiver, Schwinn Dale; another niece, Artiase Brown of Winston-Salem; an aunt, Janice Funderburk of Winston-Salem; a devoted cousin, Carolyn Anderson and husband James of Detroit, Mich.; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service was held in the chapel of Russell Funeral Home.

Opal Parnell Eidson
Opal Parnell Eidson, 81, died December 25 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born September 10, 1921, in Forsyth County to Daniel Franklin and Maude Swaim Parnell. She was a member of Cottage Street Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry and D.F. Parnell.
Surviving are her husband, Woodrow Roy Eidson of Winston-Salem; a son, Roy W. Eidson and wife Barbara “Bobbie” of Winston-Salem; a granddaughter, Kim Eidson of Winston-Salem; a brother, Jack Parnell and wife Nancy of Clemmons; a special nephew, Dale Parnell and wife Ann of Davidson County; and special neighbors, Bob and Lou Tannery of Winston-Salem.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with James Percival officiating, and burial followed at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

Brenda Demchak Frazier
Brenda Demchak Frazier, 62, of Clemmons died February 25. She was born November 1, 1940, in High Point to the Rev. Nicholas Robert Demchak and Mary Burke Demchak. A registered nurse, she worked for many years in High Point and Winston-Salem.
Surviving are her husband, James D. Frazier of the home; a daughter, Lori Ann Meister and husband Greg of Wichita, Kan.; a son, Jonathan David Frazier and wife Lynn of Charlotte; three beloved granddaughters, Karlie and Lauren Frazier and Elizabeth Meister; and a sister, Judy Demchak of Charlotte.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, and burial followed at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons.

Dorothy Beatrice Butner Phillips
Dorothy Beatrice Butner Phillips, 80, of Yadkinville died February 21 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born September 12, 1922 in Davie County to the late Ernest C. and Ruth Miller Butner. She was a loving wife and a wonderful homemaker. She was a graduate of Clemmons High School 1939 and from Draughn’s Business College. She was an active member of Forsbush Baptist Church, where she sang in the Church Choir. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Butner Sr.; a niece,Carol Fayedene Butner; a nephew, Ronald Martin; and a brother-in-law, James Ellis.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Cecil Phillips of the home; two sisters; Josephine Ellis and Eva Lee Steelman and husband Earl; five nieces; Jeanette Smith and husband David, Joyce Butner, Libby Cope and husband Kent, Johnsie Brannon and husband Warren, and Angela Uriaub and husband Roger; two nephews, Mondell Ellis and wife Marilyn, and Kenneth Butner, Jr. and wife Janice; a sister-in-law, Helen Jones Butner; several great nieces and great nephews; and numerous beloved nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces by marriage.
Funeral services were held at Forbush Baptist Church with Rev. Warren Kerr and Rev. Charles Jones officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers the Phillips family requests that memorials be made to the Forbush Baptist Church Youth Fund.

Carl Edward Spease
Carl Edward “Ed” Spease, 77, of Pfafftown died March 2 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born February 7, 1926, in Pfafftown to the late William D. and Laura Bailey Spease. He was a member of Boyer’s Chapel Church of Christ, where he was song leader for a number of years. He was self-employed and lived in the Vienna community his entire life, where he loved to farm and repair machinery. He took pride in the community and assisted in the formation of the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department and in the building of the West Central Community Center. He was a person who always had time to stop and listen and help his neighbors.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Eula Harper Spease of the home; two brothers, Richard Gray Spease and wife Faye and Roy Alton “Bud” Spease, both of Pfafftown; two brother-in-laws, Richard H. Harper and wife Brenda and Samuel L. Harper and wife Tannie Jean, all of Lewisville; a sister-in-law, Flora H. Forbus and husband Alfred, also of Lewisville; several nieces and nephews; and two special caregivers, Larry Spease and Virginia S. Bodsford.
A graveside service was held at Boyer’s Chapel Church of Christ with Don Sloan and James Percival officiating.

Lucy Elizabeth Foster
Lucy “Teeny” Elizabeth Foster, 80, of Winston-Salem died March 1 at her home. She was born June 20, 1922, in Kernersville to the late John M. and Dorothy E. Cummings. She was a homemaker and had an avid love for her yard and her family. She was a member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert James Foster Sr.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Lou Waters and husband Larry of Clemmons; a son, Robert James Foster Jr. of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren, Sutton Foster, Hunter Foster and wife Jennifer, all of New York City, Jamie Barrow of Winston-Salem, Todd Barrow of Clemmons and Chris Barrow and wife Tammy of Lexington; a great-granddaughter, Gabrielle Barrow; a sister, Pat West and husband Charlie; and a brother, John Ed Cummings, all of Kernersville.
A memorial service was held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Ray Troutman officiating.

John William Kreger
John William Kreger, 90, of Lewisville died February 26 at Forsyth Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons.

Ida Mae McDaniel Lewis
Ida Mae McDaniel Lewis, 79, of Kernersville died February 25 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. She was born in Guilford County May 21, 1923, the daughter of Martin Luther and Earcie “Gray” Edwards. She retired in 1996 after owning and operating the Hallmark Card Shop for 18 years.
Survivinga re her husband of 38 years, Henry Clay Lewis, of the home; sons Lonnie G. McDaniel and wife Glenda of East Bend, Ronnie H. McDaniel and wife Judy of Clemmons; a sister, Ruby Daubenmeyer of Kernersville; a grandson, William McDaniel of Folsom, Calif.; granddaughters Michelle Munavalli of Charlotte and Vonda Hughes of Cornelius; four great-granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.
Funeral services were held at Hanes-Lineberry Pierce Chapel with Rev. Tommy Lockwood officiating, and burial followed at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory, Kernersville.

Ruth Elanie Craven Latham
Ruth Elaine Craven Latham, 71, of Pfafftown died February 28 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born July 16, 1931, in Davidson County to James Daniel Craven and Minnie Lou Glascoe. She taught school at Holding Institute in Loredo, Texas and married M. Alvin Latham on May 2, 1957. She went on to be a rural church and community worker in Eastern Tennessee. Her lifelong dream was to be a missionary in Africa. In 1996 this dream was accomplished when she and her husband went to Highlands Bible College in Kericho, Kenya, where they both taught. She was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Pfafftown.
Surviving are her husband, Rev. M. Alvin Latham of Pfafftown; two daughters, Letha L Burrow of Gibsonville and Michelle Elaine Latham of Winston-Salem; a son, Jonathan Michael Latham and wife Jennifer of South Setauket, N.Y.; two grandsons, Cpl. John Wayne Pinnix II and Dustin Michael Driver; two brothers, Stanton Craven of Thomasville and Bennie Craven of Oak Ridge; and a sister, Treva Nifong of Winston-Salem.
Funeral services were held at Fulton United Methodist Church in Advance with Rev. Ardis Payne, Rev. John Christy, Rev. Mark Jensen and Rev. Dwight Cartner officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery.

Jeffery Allen Sweatman
Jeffery “Jeff” Allen Sweatman, 47, of Clemmons died February 23 at his home. He was born September 3, 1955, in Forsyth County, a son of Robert Monroe Sweatman and Susie Fish Sweatman Duval. He was a devoted father and loved by his friends. He loved sports and was a workaholic as a self-employed carpet installer - taking great pride in his work. He was preceded in death by a niece, Megan Sweatman, in 1988.
In addition to his parents, Robert Monroe Sweatman of Winston-Salem and Susie Duval of Kernersville, he is survived by a son, Austin Sweatman and his mother, Susie Collins; a sister, Jill Scott and husband John of Kernersville; two brothers, Robert Jay Sweatman of East Bend and Joel Gray Sweatman and wife Gina of Kernersville; three nephews, Matthew, Joseph and Brad; and a niece, Jessica.
A memorial service was held in the chapel of Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home in Kernersville with Rev. Don Winters officiating.

William Holton Chaffin
William Holton “Holt” Chaffin of Clemmons, born February 27, the infant son of Kendall and Melissa Wooldridge Chaffin, died that afternoon at Forsyth Memorial Hospital.
Surviving in addition to his parents, are his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Wooldridge of Advance; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Chaffin of Mocksville; his maternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Noakes of Bermuda Run and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wooldridge of Sutherland, Va.; his paternal great-grandparents, Mrs. Betty Chaffin and Mr. Guy Lyon, both of Mocksville; and many extended family members.
Funeral services were held at Hardison United Methodist Church with Rev. Dennis Marshall officiating, and burial followed at Rose Cemetery.

Dorothy Hayes Caffey
Dorothy Hayes Caffey, 80, of Winston-Salem died unexpectedly February 23 at Forsyth Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born January 28, 1923, in Harmony to the late Darvin and Novella Campbell Hayes. She was retired from Hanes Knitting after 42 years of service and was a member of Ardmore Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Caffey Sr.; a son, John W. Caffey Jr.; and by two brothers, Wendell and Lawrence Hayes.
Surviving are a son, David H. Caffey and wife Karen of Clemmons; a daughter, Deborah Caffey Cereceres and husband Ray of Rural Hall; six grandchildren, Michael Caffey and wife Bonnie, Lindsay, Kymberly and Matthew Caffey, Alex and Ryan Cereceres; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Caffey; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Kevin Armbrust officiating, and burial followed at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons.

Roy Lindsay Holder
Roy Lindsay Holder, 70, of Lewisville died May 4 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born May 6, 1932, in Forsyth County, to James Lowell and Mabel Rominger Holder. He was a member of Lewisville Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby Hutchins Holder of the home; a son, Randy Keith Holder and wife Marcia, a granddaughter, Nikki Holder, and a grandson, Daniel Keith Holder, all of Lewisville; Judy Holder; three brothers, J.W. Holder and wife Betty, Ray Holder and wife Dawn, all of Lewisville and Gray Holder of High Rock Lake; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held at Lewisville Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Priest officiating.

Dale Kiger Puckett Blevins
Dale Kiger Puckett Blevins, 77, of Winston-Salem died May 2 at the Oaks At Forsyth. She was born May 14, 1925, in Forsyth County to the late Luther and Faye Mitchell Kiger. She was retired from Western Electric. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl P. Blevins; and a son, Steve Puckett.
Surviving are two daughters, Vicky Puckett and Sarah of Clemmons and Helen Jarvis and husband Butch of Winston-Salem; two sons, Johnny Puckett of Jonesville and Tommy Puckett of Winston-Salem; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Helen Burgess of Winston-Salem, Margie Ledford of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Ann Martin of Winston-Salem and Sue East of Clemmons.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Tripp May officiating, and burial followed in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

Hobert Roosevelt Tuttle Jr.
Hobert Roosevelt “Tut” Tuttle Jr., 75, of Kernersville died May 4 surrounded by loving family and friends at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born December 8, 1927, in Stokes County, a son of the late Hobert Roosevelt Tuttle Sr. and Eva Nealy Williams Tuttle. He was a member of Oaklawn Baptist Church. He was retired from AT&T and a member of Telephone Pioneers of America. He and his wife, Reba, owned and operated Funtime Tours. He was a former secretary of Forsyth County Oil Dealers in Winston-Salem for more than 30 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise N. Tuttle.
Surviving are his loving wife, Reba Angell Siler Tuttle of the home; a daughter, Becky Kistler and husband Jimmy of Lewisville; a son, Ron Tuttle and wife Anne of Pensacola, Fla.; four stepsons, Virgil Siler and wife Tammy of Fayetteville, Gary Siler and wife Janice, Steve Siler and wife Debbie and Allen Siler, all of Kernersville; a sister, Jeanette Slate and husband Wayne of Walnut Cove; and 15 special grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Pa-Tut.”
Funeral services were held at Oaklawn Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Kilbreth and Rev. Ray Benfield officiating, and burial followed at Mount Gur Cemetery.

Jettie Small Smith
Jettie Small Smith, 84, of Winston-Salem, died May 2 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after a lengthy illness. She was born April 12, 1920, in Clarksburg, W. Va., to Edward and Cecillia Boswell Small. She was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church of Walkertown. She was a loving mother and grandmother and a friend to all with whom she came into contact. She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard F. Smith Sr.; three children, Mearl Emmanuel, Doris and Millard F. Smith Jr.; and three grandchildren, Mearl, Mickie, and Belcher.
Surviving are four daughters, Hazel Oliver and husband Clay of Clemmons, Clara “PePie” McCrary and husband Lynn of Lexington, June Smith of Winston-Salem and Kay Doyle and husband Mike of Kernersville; two sons, Edward Smith and wife Phyllis of Mocksville and Liger Boswell and wife Stephanie of Winston-Salem; five stepchildren, Harold, Ester, Jewell, Peggy and Frances; 22 grandchildren, Fonce, Clay, Jettie, Marty, Hazel, April, Jessica, Melissa, Olivia, Millard, Bees, Heath, Frank, Whitey, Isaac, Anthony, Lynnie, Doris, Katie, Jessica, Jamie and Zack; 25 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Stanley of W. Va.; a daughter-in-law, Pattie Smith of Pinnacle; a special grandson, Erik Sink; and a host of special friends who thought of her as a second mother.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Bobby Roberson and Rev. Darrell Cox officiating. Burial was at Westview Cemetery in Radford, Va.

Sylvia Allison Scott
Sylvia Allison Scott, 59, of Winston-Salem died April 28. She was born July 13, 1943, in Asheville to Raymond and Lottie Allison. She taught preschool at Messiah Moravian Church for 16 years, where she was also a church member for over 25 years.
Surviving are Ed Scott, her husband of 38 years; three sons, Edward Scott and wife Sally of Clemmons, Charles Scott and wife Amie of Garner and Paul Scott and wife Betsy of Lewisville; a daughter, Allison Poston and husband Joe of High Point; and 12 grandchildren, William, SaraBeth and Katie Ann Scott, Jacqueline, Scott, John and Grace Poston, Elizabeth, Claire and Grace Scott and Bridgette and Paul Scott Jr.
A graveside service was held at God’s Acre, the Moravian Graveyard.

Carlton V. Gunter
Carlton V. Gunter, 71, of Greensboro died April 28 at his home. He was born September 13, 1931, in Fulton County, Ga. He was a professional baseball player with the Milwaukee Braves and was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard serving during the Korean War. He retired after 32 years as a credit manager for Sears. He was a member of Alamance Presbyterian Church, where he served as president of the Bethany Sunday school class. He was preceded in death by his father, Verner Gunter, and a brother, Neil Gunter.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Claire Shaw Gunter; a daughter, Carla G. Tharington and husband Steve of Clemmons; a son, Kyle V. Gunter and wife Sandra of Thomasville; grandchildren Leigha and Kendall Tharington, and Erin Gunter; his mother, Ruby Callaway Gunter of McDonough, Ga.; brothers Ronald Gunter of Monticello, Ga., and Sherrell Gunter and wife Carol of McDonough, Ga.; a sister in-law, Libby Gunter of Conyers, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Alamance Presbyterian Church with Dr. Keith Uffman and Rev. Bob Gant officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery.

David Alan Branscomb
David Alan Branscomb, 46, of Yadkinvlle died unexpectedly by accidental death on April 30. He was born June 21, 1956, in Forsyth County, to James Arthur and Charlotte Merritt Branscomb. He was the owner of Branscomb Dental Lab for 25 years.
Surviving are his wife, Terry Transou Branscomb of the home; a daughter, Jennie Branscomb Starr and husband Jason of Pinehurst; three stepsons, Mark Vaughn and wife Jennifer of Clemmons, Matthew Vaughn of Yadkinville and Tommy Vestal of the home; a grandson, Daniel Starr; two stepgrandchildren, Paige and Cameron Vaughn; his father, James Branscomb and wife Judie of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Art Branscomb of Cheyenne, Wyo. and Steve Branscomb and wife Susan of Winston-Salem; two brothers-in-law, Frank Transou and wife Gail of Advance and Ray Transou and wife Kathy of Farmington; a sister-in-law, Jettie Lemons and husband Ronnie of Clemmons; several nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Steven and Nicholas.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel with Rev. Don Harvey officiating, and burial followed at Forsyth Memorial Park.
