Arthur Randall Phillips
Arthur Randall Phillips, 62, of Mount Airy died March 17 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Guilford County, a son of the late Arthur Garfield and Lucille Essick Phillips, and was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Dobson. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Sgt. Mark C. Phillips.
Surviving are two daughters, Lynn Southard and husband Danny of Stokesdale and Sadie Phillips of Kernersville; three sons, Edward Randall Phillips of Dobson, Mark Anthony Phillips and wife Julie of Walnut Cove and Joe Phillips of Mount Airy; grandchildren Eddie, Brandon, Christopher, Chris, Tristan, Dillon, Austin and Rebecca; two sisters, Sandy Dixon and husband Howard of Asheboro and Kathy Maddox and husband Blair of Clemmons; and three brothers, Doug Phillips and wife Joyce of Summerfield, Ricky Phillips and wife Mary of Kernersville and Greg Phillips and wife Tina of Mount Airy.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Chapel in Kernersville with Rev. Curtis Ponder officiating. Burial followed in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory.
Peter Smits
Peter Smits of Winston-Salem died Tuesday June 3, 2008, in Greensboro. He was 74. Pete was born Sept. 19, 1933, in the Republic of Latvia, son of the late Janis Smits and Emilija Frisbergs Smits. His family escaped the Russian occupation of Latvia during World War II, living in a displaced persons camp in Germany until immigrating to the United States. His parents, brother and cousins lived in Pfafftown where they worked on the Grandview Dairy Farm. On Dec. 25, 1949, the Winston-Salem Journal featured a front-page story about the family’s first Christmas in America. Pete graduated from Lewisville High School and UNC-Chapel Hill. Upon graduation from Carolina in 1955, he became a U.S. citizen. He won a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship to do post-graduate study at Columbia University in the field of Spanish literature. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Newfoundland and Southern California. He then worked for Wachovia Bank until retirement in 1990. He became an avid tennis player and competed in USTA tournaments throughout the southeast. He enjoyed reading books and newspapers, doing crosswords, traveling and listening to an eclectic range of music. He was a lifelong fan of the UNC Tarheels, NBA basketball, baseball and his grandchildren’s soccer teams. His brother, Eriks Smits, died in 1995. Survivors include daughter Angie Smits and husband Russ Clegg; grandchildren Alex and Audrey Clegg of Greensboro; daughter Susan Smits of New Orleans, La.; cousin Rasma Rusch of Winston-Salem; and niece, nephew and numerous cousins of Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Latvia. A graveside service was held Friday, June 6, at Pfafftown Christian Church Cemetery.
Sanford “S.H.” Henry Fishel Jr.
Mr. Sanford “S.H.” Henry Fishel Jr., 87, passed away Monday, June 2, 2008 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Born February 17, 1921, to Sanford Henry Fishel and Jennie Elizabeth Brewer Fishel, Sanford Henry Fishel, Jr., was the youngest of five children. His oldest brother died at birth, and his siblings, Clyde, Grover, and Etta Mae as well as his son-in-law, Steve Atkins all preceded him in meeting their Savior. He left home for the first time to serve his country overseas in North Africa and Italy in World War II. He fought bravely in the Army Air Force and the military Police. When he could, he wrote home to his sweetheart, Ruby Elizabeth Sink. Though six years his junior, she caught his eye and never lost it. They married on June 13, 1945, and brought four children into this world that have been cherished and loved from their first moments. Firstborn is Judy Fishel Joyce (Robbie), followed by Patricia Ellen Fishel Atkins, Sanford Henry Fishel, III, and Angela Beth Fishel Honeycutt (Robby). He showered love and encouragement upon each of them. Throughout their lives they could always count on their Daddy for support and encouragement in everything they did even working at his daughter’s license plate agency for 10 years and managing his son’s Christmas tree lot in Salisbury for 25 years. Ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren miss their Papaw greatly, but remember the impact left on each of their lives. He faithfully served and loved his wife Ruby, who continues to love him and grieves his loss deeply, though she knows he is in a far, far, better place. He went Home to be with his Heavenly Father knowing he had left for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren a legacy of service, dedication, generosity, and loyalty. He carried mail for 32 years for the U.S. Postal Service, receiving the Million Mile Safe Driver Award traveling one million miles with no accidents. He was an avid gardener and farmer and always shared his vegetables with neighbors and friends. He represented Farmers Mutual Insurance Company for 10 years. He was an excellent cook and he loved to feed people. Food was his fix for everything. He was known for his Moravian chicken pies, stuffed sausage, and his custard fruit pies. He claimed to include “Comeback” his secret family spice (so you would come back for more). A lifelong member of Friedberg Moravian Church, he served the Lord faithfully in so many ways. He served as caretaker for the church graveyard for almost 30 years and sold grave stones throughout the Moravian Church. He lovingly brewed Love feast coffee for 45 years. He also taught Sunday School and was a respected member of the brothers fellowship. The funeral was conducted Wednesday June 4, at Friedberg Moravian Church with Rev. G. Thomas Shelton and Rev. Jim Newsome officiating. Burial followed in the church graveyard.
Dennis LaVon Haile
Dennis LaVon Haile, 48, was born May 6, 1960, in Forsyth County to Carol Sherrill and Bobby Key. He departed this life on Friday, May 30, 2008. Dennis was a 1979 graduate of West Forsyth High School and also attended Winston-Salem State University. He was formerly employed by R.J. Reynolds and was presently employed with Multi Packaging Solutions where he was a production supervisor. Dennis joined Emmanuel Baptist Church in 1998 where he was an active member at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his parents. Dennis leaves a legacy of memories to his devoted wife of nine years, Cheryl Leak Haile; four sons, Brandon Ingram of Virginia Beach, VA, Dennis Haile, II. of Advance, N.C., Franko Holifield and Jonathan Winton of the home; one daughter, Naajaya Leak of the home; his step-father, Willie (Corine) Thompson; five brothers, Donald Thompson and Reginald (Ilene) Bohannon of Winston-Salem, N.C., Bobby Bacum of Virginia Beach, VA, Shavonno Key and Damon (Yukema) Key of Detroit, MI; six sisters, Melody Thompson, Bonita (Will) Lewis, Tandra (George) Wilson, Barbara (Joseph) White of Winston-Salem, N.C., Veronica McKelvy of Detroit, MI, and Brenda (Raymond) Barbour of White Lake, MI; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, June 5, 2008, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1075 Shalimar Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27101 with Reverend Dr. John Mendez officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.
Barry Reid Hawkins
Barry Reid Hawkins, 52, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 5, 2008, at his residence. He graduated from Hunter Huss High School in Gastonia and Forsyth Technical Community College in Winston-Salem. He was employed for 25 years at Corn Products of Winston-Salem. He was a member of River Oaks Community Church in Clemmons. He was actively involved in sports with his sons, and he was a coach at the YMCA of Clemmons; coach of the Little League of Pfafftown and a Cub Scout leader in Lewisville. He loved traveling with his family. He was a devoted husband and father and will be deeply missed by all. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Raymond and Dona Hord; and his father, Yuell Reid Hawkins. His immediate survivors are his wife, Kim; and his sons, Andrew and Jacob, all of the home; his mother, Dorothy H. Summey, and husband Bill of Gastonia; his brothers, Yuell Glen Hawkins and his wife, Melody, of Kernersville and Jack Raymond Hawkins and his wife, Luly, of Winter Park, Fla.; his sister, Carol Elizabeth Pacheco, and her husband, Ralph, of Herndon, Va.; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and Walter Loveless of Clemmons; and many other relatives and friends. The funeral service were held Monday, June 9, at River Oaks Community Church, followed by interment at Westlawn Gardens of Memory, Clemmons. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to River Oaks Community Church, 1855 Lewisville-Clemmons Road, Clemmons, NC 27012. Jane Micol Schatzman
Jane Micol Schatzman, 62, was born in Valdese to Mildred and Victor Micol. On Friday, June 6, 2008, Jane suffered a heart attack and gently passed away at her home in Winston-Salem. She was a graduate of Valdese High School and Surry County Community College. She entertained thousands during her 20-year career as a flight attendant with Piedmont Airlines starting in 1982 and continuing with US Airways until her retirement in 2002. She was a renowned cook who loved to entertain. Her flair and panache are legionary. Her recipes for Filet Mignon and Pears En Croute were featured in Southern Living. She loved her family and most of all her husband, Bill, of 23 years. She was his steadfast anchor, life’s joy and constant reminder of the importance of humility. Her friends and family loved her and will miss her irrepressible spirit, lightening quick wit, comfortable elegance and chicken pie. She is survived by her husband, William T. Schatzman; brothers Larry Micol of Lexington, S.C., and Col. Victor Micol of Anchorage, Alaska; daughters Jami Simpson of Southport and Brandy Simpson of Rock Hill, S.C.; and stepchildren William Schatzman of Winston-Salem and Susan Schatzman of Charlotte. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Salem Funeral Home, with Chaplain Glenn Davis and the Rev. Marion Powell officiating.
Barry Colin Sheets
Mr. Barry Colin Sheets, 59, of Lewisville passed away Saturday, June 7, 2008, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Sheets was born in Forsyth County to Clarence W. and Margie Moser Sheets on Feb. 1, 1949. He was a member of South Fork Church of Christ and served in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Sheets was a computer network administrator for Wake Forest Physicians. He will be remembered as a man with a multitude of talents and interests. Mr. Sheets was preceded in death by his mother. He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Patricia “Patty” Bailey Sheets of the home; a son, Michael Colin Sheets of Lewisville; a daughter, Joanna Humphery, and husband Craig of Lewisville; his father; two grandchildren, Maxwell Hall Humphrey and Alexander Davis Humphrey; a sister, Debbie Sheets Southern, and husband Gene of Clemmons; two brothers, Kim Sheets of Advance and Kevin Sheets and wife Laura of Clemmons; and several nieces and nephews. A gathering to honor his life will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at South Fork Church of Christ, with Dr. Bill Allen officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to South Fork Church of Christ, 205 Keating Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
Ollie Rew Fort White
Ollie Rew Fort White, 87, of Winston-Salem, formerly of Meadowbrook Manor Nursing Home in Clemmons, died November 13 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born November 28, 1914, in Shreveport, La., to the late John and Beulah Palmer Fort. She was a member of Providence Moravian Church and a member of the Rebecca Lodge in Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her first husband, J.B. Gandy; her second husband, J.T. White; a son, Hubert Gandy; and a brother, Stanley Fort.
Surviving are two daughters, Jan White Mabe and husband Randy of Winston-Salem, and Betty Gandy Newman of Sucqmish, Wash.; a daughter-in-law, Joan Gandy; a brother, U.S. Air Force Col. Alvin Fort (Ret.) and wife Daphine of El Paso, Texas; eight grandchildren, including Erin Mabe and Kaylon Gandy Gates; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
Funeral services were held at Providence Moravian Church with Rev. Arkon Stewart and Rev. Ray Burke officiating, and burial followed in the church graveyard.
Leroy Howell Merritt
Leroy Howell Merritt, 91, of Winston-Salem died November 11 at The Oaks at Forsyth. He was born May 9, 1911, to the late James H. Merritt and Agnes S. Merritt of Chapel Hill. He will be remembered by many people, including professional athletes, coaches and graduates of UNC in Chapel Hill, as he and his wife owned and operated the famous “Pines Restaurant” in Chapel Hill for many years. After his retirement, he resided in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and with his daughter in Clemmons. When his health precluded independent living, he became a resident of The Oaks at Forsyth. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Knowles Merritt.
Surviving are a daughter, Janet Littlejohn and husband Bill Littlejohn Jr. of Clemmons; a granddaughter, Jana L. Zuerner, Paul E. Zuerner III and two great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Christopher, all of Charlotte; a beloved friend, Maddalena Cagnola of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Louise Earp of Durham and Wilma Hardee of Chapel Hill; a brother, Freddie Merritt and wife Joree of Chapel Hill; and special friends, Dr. and Mrs. Jaime Trujillo and family of Winston-Salem.
A graveside service was held at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham with Rev. James Hardee, nephew, officiating.
Nathaniel Fredrick Jones
Nathaniel “Chilly” Fredrick Jones, 61, of Winston-Salem died unexpectedly at his residence November 15. He was born March 22, 1941, in Winston-Salem to the late Willie and Roma Jones. His lifetime is reflected in self-employment at Jones Chevron for 38 years, (the only black private owned service station in the state of North Carolina) and Christian membership at Dreamland Park his entire life, serving as past chairman and member of the deacon board, program director of the usher board and member of the male chorus and Sunday school.
Surviving are two daughters, Robin J. Paul and husband Charles of Lewisville and Rhonda J. Richardson and husband Antonio of Charlotte; four grandsons, Charles Paul Jr., Christopher Paul, Reginald Richardson and Antonio Richardson Jr.; a granddaughter, Tequoia Richardson; three sisters, Elveta Rutledge of Washington, D.C., Esther Haggler and husband Joseph of Oakton, Va., and Hattie Jones of Capital Heights, Md.; seven brothers, James Jones, Hubert Jones, Odell Jones and wife Rosalyn and Hobart Jones and wife Carolyn, all of Winston-Salem, Thomas Jones and wife Rosa of Ayers, Mass., George Jones and wife Patricia of Raleigh and Reginald Jones and wife Ethel of Walkertown; a brother-in-law, Roscoe J. Hines and wife Joann of Mount Airy; devoted friends, Hazel Gilbert, Aldrena Gaither, Mr. and Mrs. Hunter Hill, Willie “Bo” Crawford; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many other devoted friends.
Funeral services were held at the Greater Cleveland Avenue Christian Church with Rev. Ronald Fisher officiating, and burial followed in Piedmont Memorial Park.
Betty Doub Kimball
Betty Doub Kimball, 74, of Winston-Salem, died November 12 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born June 21, 1928, in Forsyth County, to Wesley Hart and Ella Shouse Doub. She was retired from Hanes Knitting Corp. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Thomas “Butch” Kimball.
Surviving are a brother, Jesse Tise Doub and wife Betty of Pfafftown; grandchildren Mary Ann Kimball Gordon and husband Ernie of Las Vegas, Nev., and Dawn K. Childers and husband Darin of Forest City; and great-grandchildren Colt and Dane Gordon, Alexis and Carson Ketter and Thomas, Lacie and Amber Childers.
A graveside service was held at Bethania Moravian Church graveyard with Rev. Charles Fishel officiating.
Barbara Christine Hall Lambeth
Barbara Christine Hall Lambeth, 58, of Winston-Salem, died November 9 at Forsyth Medical Center after a courageous lifelong battle with rheumatoid arthritis. She was born November 1, 1944, in Albermarle to Ernest and Thelma Maudlin Hall.
Surviving are her daughter, Tamara Bowen and husband Mark of Pfafftown; her son, Von Lambeth and wife Amanda of Winston-Salem; their father, Roland Evon Lambeth; three grandchildren, Landon Bowen (her fishing partner), Mackenzie Lambeth and Lacey Pittman; a great-granddaughter, Victoria Vazquez; three sisters, Judy Tucker and husband Donald, Carol Tucker and husband Thomas, all of Advance, and Shelby Hilton and husband Bremon of Mocksville; her brother, Ernest Hall and wife Edith of Advance; a special friend, Wanda Anderson; a caregiver, Doris Fritts; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
Ida Lauten Wall
Ida Lauten Wall, 95, of Mayodan died November 14 at Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden. She was born April 23, 1907, in Rockingham County to the late John Lee Lauten and the late Eva Ziglar Lauten and was the last survivor of 11 children. She worked in retail stores most of her life and was a member of Madison United Methodist Church. She was a lifelong resident of the Dan Valley Community.
Surviving are her husband of 67 years, W. Francis Wall of the home; two daughters, Anne James and husband Ken of Clemmons and Fran Watkins and husband Bill of Mayodan; five grandchildren, Julie and husband Sang, David, Debbie and husband Bob, Mark and wife Raquel and Christopher; and three great-grandchildren, Dustin, Chasity and Cydnee.
Funeral services were held at Madison United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Ramsey officiating, and burial followed in the Woodland Cemetery in Madison.
Danny Leo Smith
Danny Leo “Buzz” Smith, 56, of King died November 11 at his home. He was born June 1, 1946, in Forsyth County to Harold and Ruth Wise Smith. He was a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army. He was an auto-body repairman and mechanic and a member of Mountain View Church.
Surviving are his wife, Diane Needham Smith of the home; a daughter, Emily Spann and husband David of King; three sons, Danny Marcus Smith of Wilmington and Jeremy Smith and Matthew Smith and wife Lisa, all of King; four grandchildren, Brandon Johnson-Smith, Brooke Smith, Dallas Spann and Lindsay Smith; his mother, Ruth Smith of Lewisville; a sister, Lettie Black of Lewisville; two brothers, Harold Smith and wife Wendy of Winston-Salem and Jerry Smith and wife Ann of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; and several special nieces, nephews and pets.
Funeral services were held at Mt. View Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Saul officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery with full military honors by King American Legion Post 290.
Silas Throckmorton
Silas Throckmorton, 70, of Walnut Cove died November 13 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Stokes County to Dewey and Ludie Jane Martin Throckmorton. He was of the Baptist faith and retired with 30 years of service as a correction officer from the N.C. Department of Corrections. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, in 1998; and two brothers, Herbert Throckmorton and Paul Throckmorton.
Surviving are five children, Jan Doby of Linwood, Jeff Throckmorton and wife Sara of Pilot Mountain, Joey Throckmorton of Winston-Salem, Tracy Throckmorton and wife Amanda of Pilot Mountain and Lynn McCorkle and husband Kevin of Walnut Cove; two grandchildren, Mathew and Melinda McCorkle; two stepgrandchildren, Doug and Jody Taylor; two sisters, Betty Lou Pennell of Winston-Salem and Shirley James and husband Frank of Clemmons; and a brother, Grady Throckmorton and wife Frances of Walnut Cove.
Funeral services were held at Burroughs Funeral Home, and burial followed at Clear Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Hattie Walser Hege
Hattie Walser Hege, 93, of Clemmons Village II died December 19. She was born March 6, 1909, in Davidson County to the late Venus Marshall and Ollie Pickett Walser. She was a member of Arcadia United Methodist Church. Her husband, Adam P. Hege; three brothers, Cletus, Wade and Gilmer Walser; and a sister, Gladys Walser Leonard, preceded her in death.
Surviving are a son, Philip Hege and wife Aileen of Shelby; a daughter, Pearl Hayman and husband Ernst of Beaufort; two sisters, Myrtle Hege and Hazel Hanes, both of Lexington; three grandchildren, Karen Hendrick and husband Andrew III of Charlottesville, Va., Scott Hege and wife Debra of Oswego, N.Y. and Ernst Hayman III of Beaufort; five great-grandchildren, Madeleine, Andrew and Bryan of Charlottesville, Va., and Adam and Kristin, both of Oswego, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Ollie Hoffman and husband Lester; and a niece, Ruby Byerly, all of Clemmons.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Dianne Marsden officiating, and burial followed in Westlawn Gardens of Memory.
Carrie Benton Bailey
Carrie Benton Bailey, 81, of Winston-Salem died December 21 at the Springwood Care Center of Forsyth. She was born on November 5, 1921, in Darlington County, S.C., the daughter of the late Martha and James Benton. She was a member of the Spencer Memorial Christian Church and a retired employee of Forsyth Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ezekiel C. Bailey, two sisters and two brothers.
Surviving are a daughter, Peggy Bailey of Winston-Salem; four sons, Leroy Bailey and wife Jessica of Clemmons, Johnnie Bailey and wife Margaret of Greensboro, Evester Bailey and wife Brenda of Durham, and Tyrone Bailey and wife Jackie of Hunterville; eight grandchildren, Christopher Bailey, Kesha Bailey, Mark Bailey, Phillip Bailey, Kalena Bailey, Candis Bailey, Randal Bailey and Stacie Bailey; a sister, Bertha Mobley, of Winston-Salem and a host of other relatives and friends.
Private graveside services were held at Piedmont Memorial Park.
E.E. Phelps
E.E. Phelps, 97, of Winston-Salem died December 21 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born October 4, 1905, in Clemmons to George Watson and Laura Jane Ellis Phelps. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Winston-Salem, where he was a life deacon and a member of the Baraca Class of the Sunday school. He had served as department superintendent in the Sunday school and was on several church committees. He was a 1923 graduate of Clemmons High School and was employed by the Winston-Salem Post Office for 41 years, retiring in 1965 from the position of chief accountant. Following his retirement, he was active in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. In 1928 he married Geneva Irene Garrett, who died in 1932. In 1934 he married Jennie Ruth Thompson, who died in 1999. Also deceased is a son, Norman Charles Phelps, who died in infancy.
Surviving are a daughter, Jo Ann Wilhelm of Winston-Salem; two sons, Kenneth Phelps and wife Jane of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., and Richard Phelps and wife Sue of Clewiston, Fla.; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel with Rev. Henry B. Stokes officiating, and burial followed in Clemmons First Baptist Church Cemetery.
Gelee Simmons Potter
Gelee Simmons (Jo) Potter, 82, of Clemmons died December 21. She was born in Seneca, S.C., April 6, 1920. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.F. Potter, and a daughter, Linda Jo Beane.
Surviving are a sister, Frankye Mangum, of Evans, Ga.; a stepson, Robert Potter and wife Betty of Greensboro; a granddaughter, Mrs. Shan (Jayne) Teel, and two great-granddaughters, all of Winston-Salem.
A memorial service was held at Vogler Clemmons Chapel with Dr. Robert Phillips officiating. A private burial was held at Westlawn Gardens of Memory.
Eleanor Montgomery Eddleman
Eleanor Montgomery “Bo” Eddleman, 75, of Statesville died December 23. She was reared in Farmington and retired from Western Electric. She later worked as a unit secretary at Baptist Hospital Emergency Dept. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hayes Eddleman, and infant twins, John and Joan.
Surviving are her son, John Montgomery Eddleman and wife Denise of Statesville; sisters Louise Walker and husband Paul of Farmington, Peg Freeze and husband Thurman of Greensboro and Elizabeth Gibson and husband David of Trophy Club, Texas; a brother, Robert Montgomery and wife Pat of Clemmons; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Hammond officiating. Burial followed at Farmington Cemetery.
Ida Sink Byerly
Ida Sink Byerly, 83, of Lexington died December 25 at Meadowbrook Manor in Clemmons.
Funeral services were held at Friendship United Methodist Church.
Catherine Bowman Boyles
Catherine Bowman Boyles, 86, died December 21 at Meadowbrook Manor in Clemmons, where she had been a resident. She was born April 4, 1916, in Rowan County to Harry and Bessie Little Bowman. She was a member of Twin City Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Boyles, in 1999.
Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Jim Newcomer officiating, and burial followed in Forsyth Memorial Park.
