Stephen Dunn
Mr. Steven Dunn age 54 of Laurel Springs died Monday, November 19, 2007 at NC Baptist Hospital. Mr. Dunn was born May 16, 1953 in Ashe County to Paul and Ruth Stansberry Dunn. He was preceded in death by his father.
He served in Viet Nam during his three year term in the US Army. After the Army, Steve worked and traveled throughout the southwestern United States for several years. Eventually he returned to Ashe County to live with and help his mother.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 24, 2007 at Tuckerdale Baptist Church by Rev. Lloyd Day and Rev. Brandon Anderson. Burial will follow in the Baugess cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 PM Friday, November 23rd at Badger Funeral Home.

Chessie Bower
Mrs. Chessie Mae Miller Bower, age 96 of Jefferson, NC, died Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at her home. Mrs. Bower was born August 21, 1911 in Ashe County to the late Charlie and Alice Black Miller. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husbands: Walter Miller and Lou Bower, a daughter: Donna Stanley, three sons:
Ray, Bill and Jim Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 9, 2007 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Lloyd Day, Rev. Jimmy Williams and Rev. Steve Witherspoon. Burial will follow in the Colvard cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 2:00 PM prior to the service.

Mrs. Debra Adams Bare, age 48 of Jefferson, NC, died Sunday, November 4, 2007 at NC Baptist Hospital. Mrs. Bare was born March 16, 1959 in Wilkes County to Billy and Ruby Elledge Adams. She was preceded in death by her mother.

Ethel Miller
Ethel Stike Miller, age 84 of Lansing, NC died Saturday, November 3, 2007 at Segraves Care Center. Mrs. Miller was born July 22, 1923 in Ashe County to the late Elzie and Bessie Eldreth Stike. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Burton Miller.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Oak Hill Baptist Church by Rev. Doug Halsey, Rev. Charlie McCoy, and Rev. J.C. Darnell. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 AM prior to the service on Tuesday.

David Arriola
Mr. David Arriola, age 83 of Warrensville, NC died Sunday, October 28, 2007 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mr. Arriola was born November 22, 1923 in San Diego, CA. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 3, 2007 in the Taylor cemetery by Rev. Jim Greer. Maude Hartzog
Maude Mueller Lambert Hartzog, 94 blessed years, rose to her heavenly home Oct. 28, 2007. Maude was born April 12, 1913 in Lee County, VA, the daughter of Samuel Worth and Molly Elkins Lambert. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Joseph Reeves Hartzog; one daughter and son-in-law, Sally Kate and Larry Dixon, a daughter-in-law, Fadwa Ammar Hartzog; one brother Hobert Lambert; and 4 sisters, Stella Scalf, Hassie Skeens, Ann Dickenson, and Hazel Rossi.
Maude was a homemaker , devoted wife, Mother and loving Grandmother. While spending the majority of her life in Williamson, WV she was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, the Home Makers Club, and a volunteer in the community. She later lived in Charlotte, NC; Ceredo Manor, Ceredo, WV; and Wayne Nursing and Rehab, Wayne, WV.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lauren Angela and Ben Marcum of Prichard, WV; two sons and daughter-in-laws, Joseph Reeves, Jr. and Lana Hartzog, of Bluefield, VA; Jeffrey Lee and Gwen Hartzog of Williamsburg, VA; 8 grandchildren, Johnathan 'Twig' and wife, Lara Dixon of Iron Station, NC; Andrew and wife, Brenda Marcum of Salt Rock, WV; Jeremiah Marcum of Fort Worth, TX; Zachary Marcum of Prichard, WV; Jeffrey II and wife, Amber Hartzog of Lynchburg, VA; Josh Hartzog of Symme Valley, CA; Julia H. and husband Jack Hurley of Bluefield, VA; Dr. J. Mrs. Julie Blanche Miller Baker, age 79 of North Wilkesboro, NC died Saturday, October 13, 2007 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Baker was born December 1, 1927 in Ashe County to the late Wiley and Mary Miller. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Baker.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, October 19, 2007 at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Reeves Jones. Burial will follow in the Healing Springs Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday at Badger Funeral Home.

Ms. Carol Ann Osborne Foster, age 55 of Kannapolis, NC, died Saturday, October 13, 2007 at her home. Ms. Foster was born May 4, 1952 in Ashe County to Cline and Anna Lou Ashley Osborne. She was preceded in death by her mother, grandmothers Hettie Osborne and Mammie Combs. Carol Graduated from South Rowan High School in China Grove, NC in 1970. She was previously employed by Eckerd's Drug Store, Kannapolis Real Estate and Olympia computer and Swyntech where she sold industrial computers in North America and Europe. She loved cross-stitching, crocheting and loved visiting antique shops. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at 1:30 PM at the Warrensville Baptist Church by Rev. Leon Smith. Burial will follow in the Ashley cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 1.30 PM prior to the service. Rev. Dane Allen Burchett, age 58 of Winston-Salem, formerly of Ashe County died Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House. Mr. Burchett was born March 26, 1949 in Ashe County to Rev. William and Ethel Harless Burchett.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon Saturday, October 13, 2007 at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jimmy Miller and Rev. Gordon Rawls. Burial will follow in the Friendly Grove Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 - 12:00 prior to the service.

Mrs. Mary Lela Blevins Oliver age 68 of Lansing, NC died Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Oliver was born July 26, 1939 in Ashe County to the late Arthur and Lela Massey Blevins. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Joe Oliver.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 12, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Landmark Baptist Church by Rev. Charles McCoy and Rev. Tommy Wurth. Burial will follow in the Howell Hill cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8:30 PM Thursday, Oct. 11th at Badger Funeral Home.

Reggie "June" Roop
Mr. Reggie Junior Roop age 73 of Lansing the Tuckerdale community died Sunday, September 30, 2007 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Mr. Roop was born September 24, 1934 in Ashe County to the late Charles and Nettie Miller Roop. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by granddaughter; Holly Roop, sister; Blanche Miller and brothers; Jack and Walter Roop. Mr. Roop was a member of the Tuckerdale Baptist Church where he served as deacon.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at the Tuckerdale Baptist Church by Rev. Lloyd Day, Rev. Charles McCoy, Rev. Tom Graybeal and Rev. Julian Owen. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday at Badger Funeral Home.

Jimmy Dale Woodards
Mr. Jimmy Dale Woodards better known as Jim age 63 of Warrensville died Thursday, September 27, 2007 at Watauga Medical Center.
Mr. Woodards was born in Jenkinjones, West Virginia on July 7, 1944 to the late Thomas Franklin and Chessie Shepherd Woodards. Jim worked at Modern Tool and Die in Brook Park, Ohio for over 20 years. He was an avid coin collector, enjoyed watching birds, and the Carolina panthers. He had a very strong will to serve God, he was very faithful to listen to the Sunday morning church radio programs. Including his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Billy Jack Woodards, Junior (Red) Woodards and Nelson (Nick) Woodards, one sister Mary Sue Nelson.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at 2pm at New Home Baptist Church by Minister Danny Miller and Rev. David Lyall. Burial will follow in the Perry cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Monday, October 1, 2007 at Badger Funeral Home.
Mr. Woodards is survived by, 4 daughters, Dreama Pilson of Sanford, NC, Candi Dilks and Tanya Minton both of Hickory, Jacqueline Simms of Patrick Air Force Base, Florida, 2 brothers, John Woodards, Bob Woodards of Louisiana, 2 sisters, Ann Wiley of Ohio, Mae Sexton of Bristol, TN, 8 grandchildren, Zackary, RJ, Haley, Mathew, Mia, Olivia, Cyrus, Caley, 1 great grandson, a life long friend Cindy Miller and family and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Gladeys Pruitt
Mrs. Gladeys Mae Combs Pruitt age 81 of Crumple, NC died Thursday, September 27, 2007 at her home. Mrs. Pruitt was born February 26, 1926 in Ashe County to John and Vergie Eldreth Combs. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Combs and an son, Ricky Pruitt.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 Sunday at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Galvin Jones and Rev. Dean Shaw. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from
10:00 - 11:30 prior to the service.
