Lucy Gray Holman Jones
Mrs. Lucy Gray Holman Jones age 68, of West Jefferson, NC died on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at her residence. Mrs. Jones was born on January 18, 1942 in Ashe County, NC to the late Fred Robert and Ethel Mae Parsons Holman. In addition to her parents Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by a sister Polly Bledsoe. She retired from Leviton after 34 years. She loved to read, listen to country music and loved to have a good laugh with her family and friends. She was a member of Warrensville United Methodist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and Christian and will be missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Greg Plott and Rev. Garrett Mahaffey. Burial will follow in Jones Family cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday, October 29th prior to the service..
Mrs. Jones is survived by: her husband, James "Jim" Jones, four children, J. R. Jones of Georgia, Donna Jones of West Jefferson, Debbie Segraves of Warrensville, Wendy Ham of Clifton, two brothers, Freddie Holman & Jimmy Holman both of Todd, two sisters, Joanne Wilcox of Lenoir & Virginia Dare Jones of Boone, half-sister, Wanda McNeill of Boone, also surviving are 3 grandsons and several nieces and nephews.

Roger Edward Roland
Mr. Roger Edward Roland age 58, of West Jefferson, NC died on Monday, October 25, 2010 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mr. Roland was born on June 14, 1952 in Chester, PA to Alvin and Earsie Ham Roland. Mr. Roland was preceded in death by his father. Mr. Roland worked many years as an architect in business and home construction. He loved to travel and spend time with people.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Steve Witherspoon. Burial will follow in Hardin cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 PM prior to the service.

Howard Elmo Combs
Mr. Howard Elmo Combs age 59, of Boomer formally of Ashe County died on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Mr. Combs was born in Johnson County, TN to the late Grover and Lula Oliver Combs on December 27, 1950. He loved to ride his lawn mower, visit Tweetsie Rail Road and Cherokee, NC.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 25, 2010 at 7:00pm at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Dean Shaw and Rev. Reeves Jones.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Poe cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 7:00 PM prior to the service.
Mr. Combs is survived by, one Sister: Margaret Medley and husband Keith of Boomer, NC; also surviving are 3 nieces, Tammy Bobbitt, Vergie McNeil, Danna Davis, 1 nephew, Wayne Davis and 4 great nieces, Debbie Bobbitt, Amanda Bobbitt, Ashley Bobbitt, Lisa McNeil and 3 great nephews, Tyler Osborne, Chris Farrington and Bobby McNeil.

Doris Hurley Woods
Mrs. Doris Louise Hurley Woods age 76, of Creston, NC died on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Woods was born on November 1, 1933 in Ashe County, NC to the late Fieldon and Flossie Farmer Hurley. Mrs. Woods loved making dolls, quilting and working in her flower garden. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and attending church.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 12:00 noon at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jim Francis & Rev. Spencer Roark. Burial will follow in the Calhoun cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

William Parks Colvard
Mr. William Parks Colvard age 88, of West Jefferson, NC died on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at his home. Mr. Colvard was born on June 24, 1922 in Ashe County to the late Larry and Myrtle Phipps Colvard. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife: Cleta Colvard and son: Larry Neal Colvard.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Jefferson United Methodist Church by Rev. Dr. Keith Franklin. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service.

Anderson Bernard Calhoun
Anderson Bernard Calhoun departed his earthly life for his eternal life on the 9th day of October, 2010 at Segraves Care Center in Jefferson, NC.

Bernard was the son of the late Claude and Pearl Barr Calhoun.
Six brothers and sisters preceded him in death: Paris Lewis, Buel Calhoun, Opha Rhodes, Henrietta Powers, Cecil Calhoun & Katherine Miller.
Bernard made the decision to quit school at age 12, after the death of his mother to take care of his younger brothers and sisters and to ensure they finish school. He became employed at Phenix Chair Company on February 15, 1952 in the lumber yard. He worked his way up in the plant until he became the plant manager in August of 1971. He retired from Thomasville Furniture on February 28, 1993. During his retirement years he enjoyed making and selling birdhouses and playing golf.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Phoenix Baptist Church by Rev. Jeff Dollar and Rev. Ken Morris. Burial will follow in the Eller cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 9:00 PM Tuesday, October 12th at Badger Funeral Home.

Lonnie Howard Blevins
Mr. Lonnie Howard Blevins age 88, of Grassy Creek, NC died Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Margate Health & Rehab. Mr. Blevins was born on February 7, 1922 in Ashe, NC to Walter and Zenna Testerman Blevins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife: Kate Blevins, Brothers: Henry Ford Blevins, James Blevins & Willard Blevins, grandson: David Blevins. Mr. Blevins served in the US Marines during WWII.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Liberty Baptist Church by Rev. Russell Sheets and Sonny Williams with military rites. Burial will follow in Dixon cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, October 8th at Badger Funeral Home.

Jimmy Dishman
Mr. Jimmy Dishman age 61, of Jefferson, NC died Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at his home. Mr. Dishman was born April 12, 1949 in Ashe County, to Mont and Willow Wyrick Dishman. Mr. Dishman was preceded in death by his father: Mont Dishman, brother: Ricky Dishman, grandparents: Riley and Cordelia Dishman and Ben & Annie Wyrick. Mr. Dishman was a member of New Home Church. He loved going to church and being with his family.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Michael Carter, Rev. Joey McClure and Rev. Lundy Finley. Burial will follow in Dishman Family cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service.

Russell Johnson
Mr. Russell Fred Johnson age 61 of Creston, died Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the VA Hospital in Salisbury. Mr. Johnson was born April 18, 1949 in Ashe County to the late Ed and Vada Patrick Johnson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers: Charles, Glen and Ray Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a Vietname War veteran who served in the Army.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at the Johnson cemetery in Creston.
