Allene M. Ball
Allene M. Ball, 73, of Lewisville died May 20 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born May 6, 1930, in Snow Hill to Felix Jefferson and Maud Chaffin Moore. The granddaughter and great-granddaughter of Methodist ministers, she was a lifelong Methodist. Her mother was also a schoolteacher and her father was a prominent tobacco farmer. She taught in the public schools of North Carolina, St. Louis, Illinois and Florida. She was a kindergarten teacher, public-school substitute teacher and a private tutor after her retirement from public schools. From childhood, she was active in the Methodist church. She held various jobs in Lewisville Methodist Church including Sunday-school and Bible-school teacher, leader in the childrens' department and an active member of the United Methodist Women (UMW) and WHO committee until her health no longer permitted. She also was active in the Girl Scouts as a leader and supporter of the local troop. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Janice Moore and Frances Wrightenberry; and niece Glenda Wrightenberry.
Surviving are numerous relatives and friends, including her husband of 51 years, Phillip R. Ball; daughters Janice Ruth Ball Amos and husband Michael and Phyllis Allene Ball Moore and husband Jimmie; a grandson, Jonathan Michael Amos; a granddaughter, Robin Nicole Royall; sisters-in-law Laura Frances Honeycutt, Edith Ragan and husband Calvin and Estelle Ball; brother-in-law Jesse Ball and wife Marguerite; a niece, Sue Ellen Wrightenberry; and a very special cousin and college roommate, Catherine J. Tutor and husband Paul, who shared many childhood and college memories.
A memorial service was held at Lewisville United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Routh and Rev. Thomas Lee officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mary Nell Greenwood Venable
Mary Nell Greenwood Venable, 93, died May 19 at Meadowbrook Manor of Clemmons. She was born in Wilkes County in Roaring River May 1, 1910, to James Eugene Greenwood and Matilda Sebastian Greenwood. She was a member of Northwest Baptist Church and was a member of the Joy Sunday school class and the senior citizens.
Surviving are a son, Clifford Lee Venable and wife Verlene Hutchinson Venable of Clemmons; two grandchildren, Brook Elizabeth and Lauren Raine Venable of Cary and Winston-Salem, respectively; and a sister, Mrs. Warren Hefner of Waco, Texas.
A memorial service was held at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel with Rev. Randy McKinney officiating, and a graveside service followed at Forsyth Memorial Park.

Donald Wayne Linville
Donald Wayne Linville, 63, of Winston-Salem died May 19 at his home. He was born May 18, 1940, in Forsyth County to Lee Bert and Mattie Campbell Linville. He was a member of Goodwill Baptist Church and served as a military Policeman with the U.S. Army. He was an airline pilot and flew for Saudi Arabian Airlines during the early 70s retiring in the mid-80s. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are a brother, Larry B. Linville and wife Sandy of Clemmons, and several cousins.
Funeral services were held at Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel with Rev. Mark Loy officiating, and burial followed at Goodwill Baptist Church Cemetery in Kernersville.

Margaret Holcomb Davis
Margaret Holcomb Davis, 71, of Winston-Salem died May 19 at her home. She was born May 20, 1931, in Forsyth County to the late Avery W. and Daisy C. Holcomb. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was retired from the Reynolda House Museum of American Art. She was a loving and generous mother, grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Thomas Eugene Styers; and her second husband, James M. Davis.
Surviving are her daughter, Portia Styers Belcher of Winston-Salem; two sons, Scott Styers and wife Chris of Clemmons and Gene Styers and wife Karen of Winston-Salem; and nine grandchildren.
A graveside service was held at Forsyth Memorial Park.

Helen Welch
Helen Welch, 78, of Pfafftown died May 21 at her home. She was born September 5, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Arthur and Inez Eggers. She married her husband, Raymond Welch, April 12, 1947, in Brooklyn. She was a very loving and dearly-loved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Winston-Salem.
Surviving are her husband, Raymond Welch; her brother, Arthur Eggers; six children, Robert Welch, Kathleen Welch, Patricia Brown and husband Charles, Arthur Welch, Eileen Bollinger and husband Bert and John Welch and wife Leslie; nine grandchildren, Michael and Maryanne Atkinson, Charles, Lauren and Jessica Brown, Christine and Megan Bollinger, Lucas and Joshua Welch; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at St. Leo's Catholic Church, and cremains were interred in St. Leo? Columbarium at a brief interment service.

Richard Lee Myers
Richard Lee ?ick? Myers, 48, of Lewisville died May 18 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born May 28, 1954, to Cora Lee Myers Furches and the late Richard ?ete? Myers. Before being self-employed, he worked for Westinghouse TCP in Rural Hall for many years. He was best-known and loved for his pleasant disposition and willingness to help anyone in need. He was preceded in death by his father, Pete Myers, and his sister, Vicky Myers Wharton.
Surviving are his mother, Cora Myers Furches of the home; three sisters, Carolyn Armstrong of the home, Deborah Brock and husband George of Mocksville and Maxine Taylor of Sarasota, Fla.; four nieces; 10 aunts; nine uncles; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at New Hope AME Zion Church in Lewisville.

Helen Reid Collins
Helen ?eggy? Reid Collins, 75, of Winston-Salem died May 23 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born August 15, 1927, in Forsyth County to Alvis Marion and Bessie Hepler Reid. She was a charter member of Faith Missionary Alliance Church. She was retired from BellSouth after 31 years of service and was a member of Telephone Pioneers. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lewis and Gray Reid.
Surviving are three daughters, Sherry Beamon and husband Sonny of Huntersville, Peggy Jane Sisk and husband Tommy of Clemmons, and Jewel Lambert and husband Mark of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, Jason Beamon, Brandon Gordon, Kelly Creasy, Andy Sisk, Stephanie Sisk and Cameron Lambert; four great-grandchildren, Jake and Katie Beamon and Parker and Abigail Creasy; two sisters, Dorothy Wilson of Winston-Salem and Magdaline Brandon of Clemmons; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral servicea were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Don Lyerly and Rev. Michael Gates officiating, and burial followed at Faith Missionary Alliance Church Cemetery.

Martha Alspaugh Copeland
Martha Alspaugh Copeland, 71, of Clemmons died May 21 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born October 9, 1931, in Forsyth County to Carlton Gaither and Jessie Kimmel Alspaugh. She was a member of Faith Missionary Alliance Church.
Surviving are her husband of 46 years, Rev. Gordon G. ?erry? Copeland of the home; a daughter, Carole L. Copeland of Flower Mound, Texas; a son, G. Timothy Copeland and wife Brenda of Lewisville; three grandchildren, Travis J., Jamie K. and Peyton T. Copeland, all of Lewisville; four sisters, Sara Chamblee, Donna Whitley and Geraldine Nifong, all of Winston-Salem, and Mary Parrish of Norfolk, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Faith Missionary Alliance Church with Rev. Michael Gates officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery.

Juanita Mae Thomas Lawson
Juanita Mae Thomas Lawson, 82, of Winston-Salem died May 22 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born February 24, 1921, in Forsyth County to William Arthur and Bertha Thomas. She was a member of the Church of Christ on Cottage Street. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother, and her sweetness will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodle ?ick? Lawson.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Lawson Plemmons of Rural Hall; three sons, Roy Lawson of Clemmons and Houston Lawson and Jerry E. Lawson, both of Walkertown; seven grandchildren, Tony Lawson, Cheryl Lawson James, Mark Lawson, Jason Lawson, Shawna Plemmons, Sterling Plemmons and Brock Phillips; and a brother, Ray Thomas of Walkertown.
Funeral services were held at Vogler and Sons Main Street Chapel with James Percival and Don Sloan officiating, and burial followed at Gardens of Memory.

Rev. Archie William Jones
Rev. Archie William Jones, 83, of Lexington, died suddenly May 24 at his home. He was born in Forsyth County on April 25, 1920, to Lum J. Jones and Carrie Elizabeth Loyd Jones. He was pastor of Faith Presbyterian Church in Lexington and had served as pastor of Enterprise Moravian, Moravia Moravian, Bethesda Moravian, Hope Moravian and Meadowview Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II, and was former chaplain of DAV Chapter 22 in Asheboro. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Hastings Jones, on November 27, 1998; and a son, Philip Jones.
Surviving are two sons, Donnie Jones of the home and Forrest Jones of Welcome; two daughters, Carolyn J. Wooten of Clemmons and Phyllis Jones of Lexington; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Martha Snyder of Winston-Salem.
Funeral services were held at Second United Church of Christ with Rev. Jerry Moore and Rev. Norwood Green officiating, and burial followed in Waughtown Cemetery in Winston-Salem.

Peggy Phelps Trexler
Peggy Phelps Trexler, 70, of Clemmons died July 30 at Autumn Care of Mocksville. She was born in Forsyth County to Robert Elmer and Nettie Wrights Phelps. She was an office worker for Integon and was very active in the N.C. Association of Bee Keepers. She was a lifelong member of First Christian Church of Clemmons. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Phelps.
Surviving are her husband, Jack William Trexler of Clemmons; a sister, Ruth Bingham and husband Max of Clemmons; two brothers, Robert “Bob” Phelps and wife Betty and Howard “Jiggs” Phelps, all of Clemmons; a special niece, Wendy Stillinger of Wilmington; and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at First Christian Church of Clemmons with Rev. Kenneth D. Smith and Rev. Ollis Baggett officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery.

Carl Franklin Rothrock
Carl Franklin Rothrock, 79, of Lewisville died August 2 at his home. He was born November 18, 1923, in Forsyth County to Rubin Rink and Vivian Campbell Rothrock. He served with the 24th Marines 4th Division during World War II. He served at Iwo Jima where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He was self-employed for many years in construction work as a contractor, brick mason, etc. and retired from Concrete Construction Company of Lewisville as a supervisor. After retirement, he enjoyed working in his workshop building wood objects, canes from which he grew. He also enjoyed gardening. Most of his adult life was given to serving the Lord as he was an inspiration to his family and friends and was a wealth of knowledge. As a minister of the Church of Christ, he served in Ketners Chapel Church of Christ, Dry Pond Church of Christ in Stuart, Va., South River Church of Christ in Rowan County, Boyers Chapel Church of Christ in Clemmons and Cottage Street Church of Christ in Winston-Salem. He was affiliated with Shacktown Church of Christ in Yadkinville, Galax Church of Christ in Galax, Va., Reedy Creek Church of Christ in Davidson County, Nebo Church of Christ in Yadkin County and Bethel Braven Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael E. Rothrock; three brothers, John, Ray and Harry Rothrock; and two sisters, Viola Rothrock Dula and Frances Rothrock Beaver.
Surviving are his wife of 59 and a half years, Violet Poindexter Rothrock; two sons, Roscoe T. Rothrock and wife Carol and Rendall K. Rothrock; two daughters, Ann Rothrock Hester Weisner and husband Donald and Carol Lewis and husband Gerald; eight grandchildren, Michael Rod Rothrock, Tracie Rothrock-Christian, Eric T. Rothrock, Amber C. Hester, Shea Michael Hester, Cheryl Lewis Martin, Kevin B. Lewis and Kelsey Rothrock; six great-grandchildren, Alexandra Rothrock Christian, Carl Thomas Rothrock, Thomas Martin, Sam Martin, Nate Martin and Shawn Lewis; four brothers, Terry Rothrock, Charles V. Rothrock, Lawrence Rothrock and Arch W. Rothrock; and three sisters, Zelda Rothrock Wrights, Doris Rothrock Holder and Lynn Rothrock.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Jim Percival and Don Sloan officiating, and burial followed in the Boyers Chapel Church of Christ Cemetery.

Caitlin Leigh Piechowiak
Caitlin Leigh Piechowiak, 13, of Chesterfield, Va., died July 29 while serving her community through the YMCA and Meals-On-Wheels. She was a rising freshman at Matoaca High School who loved art, music, butterflies and computers.
Surviving are her parents, Craig and Faith; her brother, Tyler; her maternal grandmother, Ann Hartle of Lewisville; her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward O. Piechowiak of Bucks County, Pa.; and her aunts, uncles and cousins, Robin, Ron, Elizabeth and Caroline Nixon of Valrico, Fla.; Jack and Anja Hartle of Hamptonville; Wayne, Janice, Jason, Matthew and Amy Piechowiak of Tampa Fla.; and Brian and Joanne Piechowiak of Philadelphia, Pa.
Funeral services were held at Bliley Funeral Home’s Chippenham Chapel in Richmond, Va., and burial followed at Dale Memorial Park.

Hettie Briggs Banner
Hettie Briggs Banner, 96, of Clemmons Village Assisted Living, formerly of Winston-Salem, died July 28. She was born October 21, 1906, to Cicero C. and Ida Badgett Briggs, the oldest of 10 children. She spent her early life in Surry County and was married to Allen Banner on December 2, 1923. She was a career woman and was a supervisor for Anvil Brand in High Point for 26 years. After retirement, she moved from High Point to Winston-Salem June 9, 1968. She was employed by Robert Hall Department Store from the day it opened until it closed 10 years later; she then managed a ladies’ clothing store for six years. She was an active member of Becks Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday school class and Mission Group No. 1. She taught four and five year-olds in Sunday school for 11 years. Even though she had no children of her own, she “mothered” many over her lifetime. She was godmother to Angela Frith Antrim. Throughout her life she was a “doer” and one of her last projects was to establish Sunday school at Clemmons Village Assisted Living facility. She loved life and adapted to the many changes in her 96 years with a good attitude. She was preceded her in death by her husband in November 1956; and by all her sisters and brothers, Treva Davenport, Metta Slawter-Bryant, Vera Bauguess, Alma Turner, Hal Briggs, Helen Dunn, Ruby DeGraw, Dorothy Field and Jim Briggs.
Surviving are her half-sister, Betty Gillis of Sanford; a sister-in-law, Catherine Briggs; a brother-in-law, M.B. Davenport; and a large number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held at Becks Baptist Church with Dr. Karl Minor and Dr. Ray Hamilton officiating, and burial followed at Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point.

Marvin E. Hege Jr.
Marvin “Gene” E. Hege Jr., 63, of Lewisville died at Forsyth Medical Center on August 3. He was born in Forsyth County to Marvin Eugene Hege Sr. and Naomi Holsten Hege. He was a well-known local artist for 30 years and also a former antique dealer. He was preceded in death by his father.
Surviving are his mother of Clemmons; a special friend of 40 years, Donald Polk of Lewisville; and a brother, Jerry R. Hege Sr. of Yadkinville.
A graveside service was held at Woodland Cemetery with Rev. Bob Matthews officiating.

Billy Milton Summey
Billy Milton Summey, 64, of Lewisville died July 31 at his home. He was born April 2, 1939, in Forsyth County to Julian Carl Meeks and Virginia Hanes Summey. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. He was employed by Acosta Inc. in Charlotte.
Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Vicki Pittman Summey of the home; a son, Timothy Carl Summey and wife Lisa of Winston-Salem and their son, Jerry; three daughters, Terri Lynn Harris and husband Chuck of Winston-Salem and their children, Thomas and Casey, Charlotte Renee Dorn and husband Gregg of Lewisville and their daughter, Grayce, and Crystal Rae Joyner and husband Casey of Lewisville and their children, Wayland and Weston; a sister, Sylvia Painter and husband Gene of Lexington; an aunt, Ruby Christian of Georgia; and many special friends and golf buddies. Also surviving are his special little critters, Barbie, Chipper, T.J., Clifford, Tosoks, Henry, and Casey, two cockatiels, his ducks and fish.
Funeral services were held at Calvary Baptist Church, and burial followed in Forsyth Memorial Park.

Garland Jerry Caudle
Garland Jerry Caudle, 63, of Lewisville died July 28 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born March 16, 1940, in Forsyth County to Kern Calvin and Elsie Cromer Caudle. He was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. in 1999 after 31 years of service. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a member of Salem Lodge No. 289 AF&AM He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Jean.
Surviving are his wife, Patrice Dampier Caudle of the home; his mother of Rural Hall; a daughter, Tracy Hill and husband Robert of Winston-Salem; a stepson, Matthew Hemmings and wife Laura of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Will and Emma Marshall and Noah Hemmings; and a brother, Hassell Caudle and wife Dorothy of Rural Hall.
Funeral services were held at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Gary Chapman and Pastor David Wood officiating, and burial followed at Forsyth Memorial Park.

Charity Deann Hayes-Lewis
Charity Deann Hayes-Lewis of Clemmons, the infant daughter of Kelly Hayes and Brian Lewis, died August l. She was preceded in death by her twin sisters, Faith Nicole and Hope Renee.
Surviving are her parents, Kelly and Brian; three brothers, Brian Jr., Taylor and Christian Lewis of King; her maternal grandparents, Sandy Hayes and Bill Harper of Advance, and Perry and Beth Hayes of Lexington; her paternal grandparents, Garry and Becky Lewis of Wallburg, and Lyvonne Johnston of King; her maternal great-grandparents, Gary and Betty Rice, and JoAnn Beauchamp, all of Clemmons; her paternal great-grandparents, Harold Lewis of Winston-Salem and Georgia Lewis of Clemmons; an aunt, Kim Hayes (Tony Lowe) and her children, Gracen, Gary and Shayna Gilbert; three uncles, Rodney Lewis and his children, Sabrina and Melanie, Chris Hayes and Scooter Hayes; a very special great-aunt, Debbie Neal; a special cousin, Lanita Doub; and other family and friends.
A graveside service was held at Westlawn Gardens of Memory with Pastor Joel Boyles of Advance officiating.

Daniel Boone Franklin
Daniel Boone Franklin, 88, of Lewisville died July 28 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born February 20, 1915, in Forsyth County to William Arthur and Bettie Shelton Franklin. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Joyner Franklin; four brothers; and a sister.
Surviving are two daughters, Joyce Franklin Isgett and husband Tommy and Judy Franklin Layell and husband Larry, all of Lewisville; two grandsons, Rodney Isgett and Terry Isgett; a great-granddaughter, Ashley Isgett; a great-grandson, Ethan Isgett; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Huff Funeral Home Chapel in East Bend, and burial followed at Forsyth Memorial Park Cemetery.

Clyde Cephas Lodge
Clyde Cephas Lodge, 75, of Clemmons died October 5 at Meadowbrook Manor of Clemmons. He was born June 26, 1928, in Washington, N.C., to John and Roxana Nelson Lodge. He was a member of Disciples Church in Washington and was a retired sergeant with the special police at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, N.Y., following 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepson, Michael Conrad; two sisters, Phoebe Pettis and Ruth Peele; a nephew, James Harding; and two brothers, Lindsay Lodge and John Lodge Jr.
Surviving are his wife, Lillian “Harriet” Lodge of the home; two stepdaughters, Deborah Barr and husband Isaac and Donna Ziglar and husband Steve of Winston-Salem; a stepson, James Conrad of Newport News, Va.; three sons, James, Kenneth and Calvin; a daughter, Pamela; a sister, Mary Lodge of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers, Herbert Lodge and wife Barbara and Jack Lodge and wife Edna of Washington, N.C.; a special cousin, Florence Lodge of Washington, N.C.; a host of nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Alfred; several devoted sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; a host of grandchildren, including a special granddaughter, Monique Wiggins of Winston-Salem; and a special great-grandson, Ryan Caldwell of Winston-Salem.
Funeral services were held at Vogler & Sons Clemmons Chapel, and entombment followed in Westlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum.
