Katharyn Haslach
Katharyn Pauline Dittmar Haslach died at home in Chapel Hill on March 3. She was 84.
She was born in New York City. She was recognized nationally as secretary of the year and maintained her national accreditation and donated her secretarial skills as a volunteer to many organizations. She judged flower shows up until last year’s N.C. State Fair, and held leadership roles in the North Carolina Wild Flower Society and state and regional flower and garden clubs.
In 1996, she moved to Carol Woods. While a resident there, she continued as a member of the Chapel of the Cross flower and altar guilds, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and the public library, Women’s Clubs, garden and flower organizations, and in various activities at Carol Woods.
Survivors include three sons, Henry W. Haslach Jr., Robert D. Haslach and F. Stephen Haslach III; and four grandchildren.
The funeral and burial service were held at Chapel of the Cross on Monday.
William Donald Price
William Donald Price of Chapel Hill died March 10 at his home. He was 71.
He was born in Guilford County and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for the City of Greensboro as well as the Department of Housing and Urban Development. He also worked for Westminster Homes building group homes across North Carolina. He was a member of Orange United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill.
A graveside service was conducted Saturday at Westminster Gardens in Greensboro.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah; a daughter, Amanda P. Kircher; two brothers, Jerry S. Price and Vinson Price; and two grandchildren.

Marilyn V. Yarbrough
Marilyn Virginia Yarbrough died Wednesday at her home in Chapel Hill. She was 58.
A native of Bowling Green, Ky., she joined the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1993 and served as associate provost from 1994 to 1996. Her teaching and research interests included torts, race and gender discrimination, sports law and professional responsibility. She was the dean of the University of Tennessee Law School from 1987 to 1991, making her the first African-American female dean at a major Southern law school. She was also the first black woman to serve as president of the Law School Admissions Council, the nonprofit corporation that administers the Law School Admission Test. Yarbrough was a professor and associate vice chancellor for research and graduate studies at the University of Kansas.
She served as executive director of the Black Law Journal and was on the Pulitzer Prize board, the NCAA Committee on Infractions, the American Bar Association’s section on legal education and the board of editors of the association’s journal. She received a bachelor’s degree from Virginia State University and a law degree from the University of California at Los Angeles. Before she studied law, Yarbrough worked as an engineer for IBM Corp. and the Westinghouse Aerospace and Defense Center.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Duke Chapel in Durham.
Survivors include two daughters, Carmen Ainsworth Brady of Kansas City, Mo., and Carla Ainsworth of Seattle; her stepfather, John Toole, of Washington, D.C.; a brother, William O. Yarbrough Jr., of Durham; a stepsister, Barbara Hubbard of Hyattsville, Md.; and one grandson.
Gracie Watson
Funeral services for Gracie Watson will be conducted today at 2 p.m. at Hickory Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. C.M. Williams. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends a half hour before the service.
Survivors include a daughter, Annette Snipes of the home; three sisters, Lois Burnette and Lucy Fearrington, both of Chapel Hill, and Helen Braxton of Newark, N.J.; and one grand-daughter.

Nina Patricia Andrews
Nina Patricia Andrews died at her home in Chapel Hill Feb. 4 after a long illness. She was 48.
A memorial service was held Wednesday at Bonlee Baptist Church in Chatham County.
Survivors include her parents, Ike and JoAnne Andrews of Fearrington Village; and a sister, Alice Andrews Joyce of Chapel Hill.
Kathryn E. Dominguez
Kathryn E. Dominguez of Carolina Meadows died Dec. 1, 2003 at UNC Hospitals. She was 92.
She was chief psychologist for child guidance clinics in Wilkes-Barre and Scranton, Pa., associate professor and chair of the psychology department at Wilkes College and director of Psychology and Educational Services, Children’s Unit, at Eastern Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute in Philadelphia, Pa. She also taught at Temple University. She moved to Carolina Meadows in 1986.
Services were held at Carolina Meadows on Dec. 7. Her ashes will be interred in Ardmore, Pa. at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Make-A-Wish Foundation or other charity or scholarship of your choice.
Douglas E. Newcomb Jr.
Douglas Edward Newcomb Jr. died Feb. 9 at Meadowlands Hospice in Hillsborough after a long series of illnesses. He was 54.
A graduate of Pfeiffer University, he held a master’s degree in history from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He grew up in suburban Washington, D.C., and had careers as a civil servant, monk and college history professor before settling in Chapel Hill. He was a teacher, a musician, amateur photographer, gourmet cook and gardener.
Burial was at 11 a.m. Saturday at Chapel Hill Memorial cemetery followed by a service at Community Church of Chapel Hill-Unitarian Universalist.
Survivors include his mother, Doris H. Newcomb of Wilmington; and his partner, Luke Swindler of Chapel Hill.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice at Meadowlands, 1001 Corporate Drive, Hillsborough, N.C. 27278.

Clifton D. Boyd
Clifton D. Boyd of Carrboro died March 4 at Hospice of the Meadowlands. He was 94.
A native of Granville County, he was a long-time resident of Carrboro and a member of the Fearrington Road Baptist Church.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. March 7 at the Fearrington Road Baptist Church by the Rev. Jim Greenlee. Burial will follow in Westwood cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Tom Boyd of Hillsborough and John "Bill" Boyd of Knightdale; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Richard D. Bukoski
Richard Dean Bukoski of Chapel Hill died March 2 from natural causes. He was 50.
A native of Canton, Ohio, he received a degree in chemistry from Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio, and a doctorate in cardiovascular physiology from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Before settling in North Carolina, he was a faculty member at the Oregon Health Sciences University, Portland, and the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
He was a professor biology and director of the Cardiovascular Disease Research Program at the Biomedical, Biotechnology Research Institute at N.C. Central University. He was nationally and internationally known in the scientific community for increasing the understanding of how blood vessels function and contribute to hypertension. He was a member of several prominent research bodies, including the American Heart Association and the Council of High Blood Pressure Research. His work was supported by major funding agencies, including the National Institutes of Health.
A funeral mass was conducted March 6 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
Survivors include his parents, George and Kaye Bukoski of Canton, Ohio; his wife, Heidi; three sons, Conrad, Jacob and Isaac, and daughter, Sarah Anne; and two sisters, Kathy Zollars of Canton, Ohio, and Lori Bukoski of Barrington, R.I.

Emma S. Mayhew Davis
Emma S. Mayhew Davis, a resident of Carolina Meadows, died Feb. 27. She was 90.
Born in West Newton, Pa., she attended Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va., where she studied journalism. She was an active member of the Junior Women's Club and Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. She enjoyed a late-life success in real estate.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. March 6 at Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church in Charlotte with the Rev. Billy Robinson officiating. Interment was at Sharon Memorial cemetery, 5400 Monroe Road, Charlotte.
Survivors include four daughters, Mary Jane Mayhew Burns of Chapel Hill; Anna Jean Mayhew of Hillsborough; Linda Mayhew Gore of Nashville, Tenn. and Susan Mayhew Devine of Banner Elk; a sister, Helen S. Anderson of Wilmington; seven grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Ann Leonard
Elizabeth Ann Johnson Leonard died in Chapel Hill on March 4. She was 82.
Born in St. Paul, Minn., she graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Duke University in 1943, majoring in history. She moved to Hartford, Conn., where she worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as an engineering aide. In 1949, she worked for the Department of State in Washington, doing personnel statistics for the Foreign Service.
A service was held March 6 at Walker's Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date on Chebeague Island, Maine.
Survivors include her husband, Louis Franklin Leonard of West Hartford, Conn.; three daughters, Henrietta Louise Leonard of Providence, R.I., Ann Hamilton Leonard of Chapel Hill and Susan Elizabeth Leonard of northern Virginia; a son, Edward Robert Leonard of West Hartford, Conn.; and eight grandchildren.

Charlotte Wehrli Roseno
Charlotte Wehrli Roseno of Durham died March 2 at Britthaven of Chapel Hill. She was 75.
Born in Flint, Mich., she was a dress designer who worked for Bergdorf-Goodman and several design houses in New York. She moved to Durham three years ago from Florida.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a time and date to be announced later.
Survivors include her children, Kent Murphy of Chapel Hill, Thomas Murphy of Scarsdale, N.Y., and Jacquelyn Moscone of Scarsdale, N.Y.; and six grandchildren.
