HUEL G. WHEELER JR.
BEAUFORT -- Huel Grady Wheeler, Jr., 70, of Beaufort, died Monday at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville. Mr. Wheeler was pastor of First Baptist Church, Beaufort from 1965 to 1969. He worked with the North Carolina State Department of Human Resources from 1969 to 1989; was floral decorator at Tryon Palace, New Bern, from 1979 to 1986 and at the Governor's Mansion from 1986 to 1993. He was preceded in death by his wife, Regis Rowell Wheeler.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Beaufort, with the Curate, The Rev. David A. Stout officiating.
Survivors: son, Huel Grady Wheeler, III of New York City; daughter, Regina Jay Wheeler and her husband John David Swinea of Huntersville; brother, John Haywood Wheeler of Tallahassee, Florida; sister, Mary Louise Golon of Port St. Joe, Florida; one granddaughter, Savannah Hanes Swinea.
The family will receive friends at home, 619 Ann Street, on Tuesday evening from 7-8 p.m.

LESSIE BAUGH WRIGHT
WINSTON-SALEM -- Mrs. Lessie Baugh Wright, formerly of Winston-Salem, died Sunday morning at McCloud Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC. She was born June 3, 1916 in Raleigh to Hubert I. Baugh and Minda Partin Baugh. Mrs. Wright moved to Winston-Salem in 1966 and was a longtime employee of Bowman Gray School of Medicine. She was a member of Northwest Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Wright.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia W. Chapman and her husband Tom of Florence, SC and Carol W. Nazzaro and her husband Russ of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one grandson, Mark Andrew Dillon and his wife Kimbra of Garner; three step-grandchildren, Mark Chapman, Kimberly Chapman and Jessica Lacroix; a niece, Barbara Davis and her husband Jack of Chattanooga, TN and a nephew, William Avent and his wife Glenda of Denver, Colorado.
The funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Vogler Reynolda Rd. Chapel, conducted by Dr. Jeff Roberts. Interment will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

HOLLIE HARRELL
ST. PAUL -- Hollie Harrell, 98, of St. Pauls, died Monday at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
She was the last surviving heir to the late Mark Harrell and Sallie McMillan Harrell. She attended Fayetteville State normal (now Fayetteville State University) and taught school for 30 years in the Pleasant View and Rennert area.
She lived in New Jersey for many years and was employed at St. Mary's Hospital in Jersey City, NJ, and was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Funeral service 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Rev. Bobby McKoy, Rev. Fred King officiating. Burial, church cemetery.
She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and members of the Harrell, McMillian, Humphrey, and King families.
Family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, in St. Pauls.
McMillan Funeral Home in Lumberton in charge of service.
HUGH GAITHER SHEARIN JR.
RALEIGH -- Hugh Gaither Shearin, Jr., 50 , died Thursday, February 11, 1999, at his home in Raleigh after a brief illness.
Funeral service will be conducted at Lakeside Baptist Church, Rocky Mount, 11 a.m. Saturday. The Reverends Jody Wright and Dr. Gaylord Lehman will officiate. Burial will follow in Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife, Nita; daughters, Loraine and Jennifer, both of Boone, Ashley and Amanda, both of the home; parents, Hugh and June Shearin of Rocky Mount; sisters, Jan Bobbitt and Gaye Brinn, both of Rocky Mount.
Hugh graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School in 1966 as valedictorian of his class. A Morehead Scholar and Phi Beta Kappa member, he graduated from the University of of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Chemistry in 1969. He was awarded his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in 1973. He completed his residency certification at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1976 and was awarded a Master of Public Administration degree in 1984 from the University of North Carolina School of Public Health.
Following his graduation from medical school, he served in several positions from 1976-1992 including Family Practice Physician in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; Medical Director of the Alexander County North Carolina Emergency Medical Service; Family Care Physicians at the Family Care Center in Taylorsville, North Carolina; and the Emergency Department Director at Rocky Mount Community Hospital and Heritage Hospital in Tarboro.
Hugh was awarded his Doctorate of Jurisprudence with honors from North Carolina Central University School of Law in 1995. He joined the law firm of Smith Helms Mullis & Moore where he served as a partner.
Both as a medical and legal practitioner, Hugh was valued for his unique understanding of medicine and law. His patients and clients benefited from his combination of personal skills training, uncompromising dedication, and wise counsel. He regularly worked with experts preeminent in their fields and commanded the respect of all. A professional with impeccable skill and training. Hugh was loved as a friend, counselor and leader with his profession. He was a warm and caring man of integrity and presence.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home, Sunset Avenue in Rocky Mount.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Rex Cancer Center, 4420 Lake Boone Trail, Raleigh, NC 27607.
GRACE WILDER
RALEIGH -- Grace Wilder, 99, of 1010 Harvey Street, retired auditor for the News and Observer Publishing Co., died Thursday. Born in Harnett Co. on August 7, 1899. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Reid Wilder and Helen Jones Wilder. Graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday in Oakwood Cemetery.
It was her request that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the charity of one's choice.
She is survived by many cousins.

ALMA B. WILLIAMS
FEB. 22, 1909-FEB. 11, 1999
RALEIGH -- Alma Barbour Williams, 89, of Raleigh died Thursday. Mrs. Williams was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Anne Hope McDonald Allen; husband, Dr. Ralph L. Williams, former owner of the Boulevard Animal Hospital.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, St. Mary's Street. The burial will follow in Restlawn Memorial Garden.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her son, Thomas Williams and his wife, Margaret Lynn Williams of Raleigh; sisters, Louise Towler of Danville, VA and Lois Ramsey of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Skye McDonald, Matthew Williams, Benjamin Williams and Megan Williams; son-in-law, Dr. Danny Allen of Raleigh.
Memorial contributions may be made to the West Raleigh Exchange Club, Youth Program Support, 6018 Fordland Drive, NC 27606.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
ERNEST ALGOOD
WARRENTON -- Mr. Ernest Algood, 76, of Warrenton, died Wednesday at Maria Parham Hospital. Son of the late Ernest Algood Sr., and Angie Davis Algood, he was born May 10, 1922 in Warren County.
Funeral service will be held Saturday 2 p.m. at Greenwood Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Eddie Lawrence. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He is survived by wife (50 years) Mable Davis Algood, two sons, Joseph Algood of Raleigh, Clinton Algood of Creedmoor; one daughter, Gloria Algood of Durham; two sisters, Cora Algood Walker of Durham, Florence Alleyne of Long Island, NY; one brother, James Algood of Long Island, NY; seven grandchildren.
Family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday night at Harris-Turner Funeral Home in Warrenton.
CLAUDIE WINDHAM ANDERSON
CLAYTON -- Claudie Windham Anderson, 69, died Thursday evening.
A cook at the Grocery Boy Jr. in Garner, everyone called her "Momma".
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. in the Oakland Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are her beloved husband, Albert Anderson; son, Howard Earl Anderson and his wife, Paula of Garner; daughters, Patsy Anderson Benson and her husband, Danny of Four Oaks, Faye Anderson Poole of Clayton and Sandra Anderson Barbour and her husband, Scott of Clayton; brothers, James Windham of Garner and Bobby Windham of Brogden; sisters, Alice Edwards of Brogden and Betty Broughton of Four Oaks; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at Underwood Funeral Home in Smithfield.
JANET B. FRANCIS
ROCKY MOUNT -- Janet Botts Francis, 92, died Wednesday, February 10, 1999 in Rocky Mount, NC after a brief illness.
Mrs. Francis was a long time resident of Chapel Hill and a member of The Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church. She is a graduate of Converse College in Spartanburg, SC and the University of Virginia Graduate School. She was a counselor for many years in the Alamance and Durham County School Systems. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Francis Bobzien of Rocky Mount, NC; son, Hansford Payne Francis, Jr., of Staufenberg, Germany; and six grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 15, 1999 at The Chapel of the Cross in Chapel Hill.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in her name to All Saints Convent, Box 3127, Cantonsville, MD 21228.
Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Inc., Raleigh.
MATTHEW R. HARRISON
SNOW HILL -- Matthew Ryan Harrison, 5 years old, passed away Thursday morning at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Matthew was a shinning example of bravery through the duration of his illness.
He attended Hull Road Free Will Baptist Church faithfully, even until the last week. He was also a kindergarten student at Snow Hill Primary School, where once again he set the example of determination and kindness to his fellow students. Matthew was known for his thoughtfulness to others and even as a little child has succeeded in touching the lives of many people both young and old alike.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Snow Hill Cemetery with the Reverend Leon Grubbs officiating to commemorate the life of such a special person.
Matthew is survived by his loving parents, David and Susan Ham Harrison of Snow Hill; a brother whom he loved dearly, Andrew Harrison of the home; maternal grandparents, Woody and Martha Ham of Snow Hill; paternal grandparents, Charles and Edith Harrison of Snow Hill; paternal great-grandmother, Mary Feenerty of Snow Hill; a paternal great-grandfather, Henry L. Cunningham of Snow Hill; and several loving aunts and uncles.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at Taylor-Edwards Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

WILLIE G. LEE
FOUR OAKS -- Willie Green Lee, age 85, died Wednesday, February 10, 1999 at Smithfield Manor Nursing Home. The fifth of eight children of James Isham Lee and Esther Ellen Allen, he was born December 7, 1913 in Johnston County. He and his wife, Neva, lived and farmed near Four Oaks for many years. Later he worked at the Four Oaks FCX and Congleton Hardware in Smithfield. The Lees were members of Barbour's Chapel Advent Christian Church, where Mr. Lee taught Sunday School.
Surviving: wife, Neva Blanche Norris Lee; daughter, Joyce Lee Moran and husband Ferd; son, Willie Sherrill Lee and wife, Laverne Ingram Lee; sisters, Ida Morgan and Irene Richard; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Flowers will be greatly appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to Barbour's Chapel Advent Church, Four Oaks, NC.
Visitation for Mr. Lee 1-2 p.m. Saturday at Minshew Funeral Home.
Funeral 2:30 p.m. Saturday Barbour's Chapel AC Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Rev. Ozzie Raynor and Rev. Edward Adams officiating.
