Peter Anderson Green
Peter Anderson Green, 35, of Pfafftown died unexpectedly at his home on February 29. He was born in Forsyth County on January 10, 1969, to Charles R. Green, Ph.D., and Ginnie Anderson Green. He served 12 years with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Department, where he was selected as the young deputy sheriff of the year in 1996. He was a member of Knollwood Baptist Church in Winston-Salem and the Delta Chi fraternity at Appalachian State University. He also volunteered at the Crisis Control Ministry.
Surviving are his parents of Winston-Salem; a sister, Kristen Jordan and husband Jim of Clemmons; a maternal grandmother, Mildred C. Anderson of Fredericksburg, Va.; and a paternal grandmother, Marilyn T. Green of Fredericksburg, Va.
A memorial service was held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Glenn Davis, chaplain of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department, officiating.
Jasper Dean Haizlip
Jasper Dean Haizlip, 79, died February 26 at Meadowbrook Manor in Clemmons. He was born in Forsyth County on December 11, 1924, to the late Roba Vincent and Laura Dean Haizlip. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a former member at College Park Baptist Church. He retired from the Veteran’s Administration with 33 years of service. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was preceded in death was a brother, Vincent Haizlip.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Betty Haizlip; a daughter, Lynn Baxter and husband Rick of Lewisville; and two grandchildren, Collin and Chris Baxter.
Funeral services were held at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Hind officiating, and burial followed at Forsyth Memorial Park.
Joseph Calvin Stimpson
Joseph Calvin Stimpson, 69, of Lewisville died February 25 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born August 2, 1934, in Forsyth County to Max A. and Maggie Hutchins Stimpson. He was a member of Enon Baptist Church and retired from the U.S. Navy with 31 years of service. He was a deputy sheriff with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department for a number of years and then operated the Lewisville Shell Station. He was a board member of the Adaptables and a member of the Model A Restorers Club, and still has his 1931 Model A. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ruth Phelps.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby Taylor Stimpson; a daughter, Cindy Hammonds and husband Fred; a son, Alan Stimpson and wife LeeAnne; and three very special grandchildren, Sally Hammonds, Eric Hammonds and Joseph Stimpson.
A graveside service was held at Enon Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Elmore officiating.
Amanda Lee Moser
Amanda “Mandy” Lee Moser, 44, of Pfafftown died February 25 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her father, Harry N. Moser; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Moser and Mr. and Mrs. William Marshall; and a stepbrother, Michael Schweighart.
Surviving are her mother and stepfather, Frances and Donald Schweighart; a stepsister, Katherine Mary York and husband Ronny; her stepbrothers, Joe, Tom, John, Richard and wife Traci and Donald Schweighart; her uncles, Wayne and Bryant Marshall; and many friends.
Gloria L. McInerney
Gloria L. McInerney of Winston-Salem, formerly of Putnam Valley, N.Y., died February 25 after a brief illness. Born June 11, 1925, in Yonkers, N.Y., to Arthur and Elizabeth Wright, she married her beloved husband, Neal, on January 5, 1947, at St. Peter’s Church in Yonkers, N.Y. They spent their lives together in friendship and love. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Wright and Francis Wright.
Surviving are her husband of Winston-Salem; two children, Kathleen Agnelli of Winston-Salem and James McInerney of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Jennifer Agnelli Danner and husband Duane of Clemmons, Robert Agnelli and wife Allison of Morrisville and Elizabeth Agnelli and Kate Agnelli, both of Winston-Salem; and a great-grandson, Dominic Agnelli.
A requiem Mass was held at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church.
Frances Beck Freeman
Frances Beck Freeman, 85, formerly of Mocksville, died February 29 at Davie County Hospital. She was born June 10, 1918, in Davie County, a daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson and Sallie Everhardt Beck. She was retired from Davie County Hospital with 22 years of service and was a member of Jericho Church of Christ. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed crossword puzzles. She also loved to crochet. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Craig Freeman, in 1982.
Surviving are her husband, Madison Craig Freeman of Mocksville; two children, Craig Freeman and wife Audrey of Mocksville and Phyllis Freeman Sells of Salisbury; a brother, John Beck of Lewisville; two sisters, Rebecca Foster of Cooleemee and Jackie Burton of Mocksville; and four grandchildren, Todd Freeman and wife Cindy, Lisa Sells, Lindsay Sells and wife Peggy, Donald Sells and wife Jackie; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Jericho Church of Christ in Mocksville with Dr. Tom Torpy and Harding Lowery officiating.
Wayne Johnson Kinney
Wayne Johnson Kinney, 56, of Clemmons died March 19 at his home. He was born June 26, 1947, in Richmond, Va., to Francis Charles and Elsie Dale Kinney. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was judicial district manager, District 21, of the N.C. Department of Correction Division of Community Corrections (Probation/Parole). He began his career in 1974 and from 1996 to 1999 he was judicial district manager of District 19-C (the Salisbury district). On March 1, 2004, he was presented the Order of the Longleaf Pine, awarded by the governor, the Honorable Michael F. Easley. He was a member of the N.C. Probation/Parole Association. He was also a member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church, where he had served as a Boy Scout leader, usher, trustee and Sunday school class president. He was active and former president of the Lewisville Titans football organization and was a coach for the Southwest Little League baseball organization.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Widener Kinney of the home; a daughter, Ashley C. Kinney; a son Mark J. Kinney, both of Winston-Salem; a sister and brother-in-law, BethAnn and the Rev. David P. Glasser of St. Michael, Minn.; an uncle and aunt, James and Jan Kinney of Altoona, Pa.; an uncle, Letcher R. Dale of Winston-Salem; nephews Ben and Jon Glasser; a niece, Rebecca Glasser; and several cousins.
A memorial service was held at New Philadelphia Moravian Church with Dr. Worth Green and the Rt. Rev. Robert A. Iobst officiating.
Dorothy Maxwell
Dorothy Maxwell, 89, of Lewisville died March 18.
Funeral services were held in Greensburg, Pa.
Doris Tuttle Hester
Doris Tuttle Hester, 74, of Lewisville died March 19 at Forsyth Medical Center after a period of declining health. She was born December 3, 1929, in Forsyth County to Hobert Samuel and Essie Gertrude Crews Tuttle. She enjoyed the Joy Club at Lewisville Baptist Church and was an avid movie fan. She also enjoyed television and games shows and was a faithful Wake Forest University Deacon fan. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert “Pete” Hester.
Surviving are two daughters, Joy H. Stokes and husband Dr. Olen Stokes, and Jill H. Robertson and husband Scott; three grandchildren, Heather Stokes, Brian Stokes and Emma Jane Robertson; and three brothers and a sister, J.T. Tuttle and wife, Jean, Hobert Wade Tuttle, Marie Tuttle Vaughn and husband, Ronnie, and Richard Gray Tuttle.
Funeral services were held at Pfafftown Christian Church, and burial followed in Westlawn Gardens of Memory.
Raymond A. Drilleau
Raymond A. Drilleau, 89, of Grayson, Ga. died March 15. A citizen of France, he was a veteran of the French Air Force during World War II. He served at the French Consulate in New York and retired in 1979 from the French Embassy in Washington, D.C.
Surviving are his wife, Margery Drilleau of Grayson; his daughters, Alice Marie Sandridge and husband Lacy of Clemmons, and Jacqui Louis and husband Gary of Loganville; a son, Raymond V. Drilleau of Grayson; and his grandchildren, Mikki Sandridge, Ted Sandridge, Justin Louis and Marie-Claire Louis.
A memorial Mass was held at St. Oliver Catholic Church in Snellville, Ga.
Linda Littlejohn Hicks Reeves
Linda Littlejohn Hicks Reeves, 64, of Clemmons died March 18 at her home. She was born September 21, 1939, in Forsyth County to Flora Caudill and Fred West Littlejohn. She was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. and was currently attending Calvary Baptist Church. She was a current member of the Red Hot Darlins & Purple Passion Chapter of the Red Hat Society. She was a thoughtful and loving person who always thought of others before herself.
Surviving are her husband, Fred David Reeves of the home; two sons, Randy Hicks and wife Margaret of Winston-Salem and Ron Reeves and wife, Wanda of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Imogene Beshears of Rural Hall; and a brother, Tom Littlejohn and wife Ruby of Walkertown.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Donald Mann officiating, and burial followed in Forsyth Memorial Park.
Charles Sprinkle Hauser
Charles Sprinkle Hauser, 73, of Lewisville died March 20 at Meadowbrook Terrace of Davie. He was born June 2, 1930, in Forsyth County to Floyd William and Carrie Elizabeth Sprinkle Hauser. He was a member of Lewisville Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was active in the church for many years. He was president emeritus of the Lewisville Civic Club, a board member emeritus of the Lewisville area Arts Council, a member of the West Bend Masons, a member and past president of The Lewisville Historical Society and owner of Back Home Realty. He was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Hauser Reavis.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Darriell Hauser of Lewisville; three sons, David Hauser and wife Iris of Lewisville, Michael Dean Hauser and wife Cherri of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mark William Hauser and wife Janice of Lewisville; six granddaughters, Aliyah, Prontaut and husband Lloyd, Amanda, Callie, Rachael, Morgan and Sarah; and a grandson, Joshua.
Funeral services were held at Lewisville Baptist Church with Pastor Ralph Stanley Sr. and Pastor Jo Bjorling officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery.
Sarah Elizabeth Lowry Woodliff
Sarah Elizabeth Lowry Woodliff, 73, of Winston-Salem died March 19 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born September 25, 1930, in Robeson County to Claude Lowry Sr. and Sara Elizabeth Hunt. She worked for AT&T with 19 years of service. She loved gardening. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert, and her sister, Aver.
Surviving are a son, Todd Woodliff and wife Kathy of Clemmons; three daughters, Brenda Angell and husband Kenneth of Fayetteville, Stephanie Nelson and husband Thomas of Pfafftown, and Karen Woodliff of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Grover C. Taylor IV, Jessica D. Nelson and Alicia L. Nelson; six sisters, Inez Dial, Jacqueline Glass, Eleanor Otten, Elaine Strickler, Altha Whitehead and Jo “Jo Ellen” Worrell; and six brothers, Alvin, Claude Jr., Dolvin, Richard, Wayne and William Lowry.
A graveside service was held at the Lowry family cemetery in Pembroke with Rev. Ray Brooks officiating.
Sadie Ann Johnson Stillie
Sadie Ann Johnson Stillie, 95, died March 19 at The Oaks of Forsyth. She was born July 25, 1908, in Forsyth County to the late Arville Lewis Johnson and Cora Bell Hine Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lummie Ray Stillie Sr., in 1973, along with three sisters and four brothers.
Surviving are three sons, Lummie Ray Stillie Jr. of Lewisville, Donald Gray Stillie and wife Phyllis and Robert Edward Stillie and wife Linda, both of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held at Love’s United Methodist Church Cemetery with Dr. Bobby Roberson officiating.
Patricia Ann Kallam Inman
Patricia Ann “Trish” Kallam Inman, 54, of Winston-Salem died at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center on March 17. She was born in Forsyth County on June 29, 1949, to Jack and Mary Bullard Kallam. She was a devoted Christian and a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Surviving are her husband, Larry; three daughters, Kimberly Gilbert Moser of Sherrill’s Ford, Kelly Gilbert Parsons of Browns Summit and Sherri Inman Jarvis and husband Rickey of Clemmons; a son, Mark A. Inman of Atlanta, Ga.; five grandchildren, Courtney Shafer, Christian Moser, T.J. Moser, Mason Galloway and Tatum Jarvis; her beloved canine companion, Hailey; and several close friends and family members.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Brother Don Collins officiating, and burial followed at Parklawn Memorial Park.
Donald Ray Kinney
Donald Ray Kinney, 71, of Lexington, died March 1 in Lexington Memorial Hospital. He was born October 22, 1932, in Davidson County to Numer R. Kinney and Lillian Ruth Senter Kinney. He was a retired lieutenant from the Lexington Police Department and a member of First Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 50 years, Norma Cohen Kinney, who died October 28, 2000; and a brother, Robert Kinney.
Surviving are three daughters, Donna K. Robb and husband Frank of Mooresville, Kaye K. Hobson and husband Mark of Clemmons, and Carolyn K. Allred and husband Mike of Lexington; six grandchildren, Lindsey Robb, David Robb, Michael Robb, Jordan Allred, Matthew Allred and Evan Allred; two stepgrandchildren, Sarah H. Vestal and husband Keith, and Leslie Dudas and husband Brian; a stepgreat-grandchild, Bailey Vestal; two brothers, Adrian Kinney and Richard Kinney, both of Lexington; and a sister, Ruth Mashburn of Lexington.
Funeral services were held at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel with Rev. Lloyd Spencer officiating, and burial followed in the Lexington City Cemetery.
Edna Mae Peters
Edna Mae Peters, 69, of Winston-Salem died March 21 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born on August 3, 1934, to the late Charles Parisi and Florence Powers Parisi of Philadelphia, Pa. On August 30, 1956, she married her beloved husband, Charles L. Peters. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 30 years and a cherished friend in the Lib Richardson Bible Fellowship Class. She faithfully sang in the Calvary Choir and had special memories of sharing the Gospel through mission trips to Kenya and Belgium. Her dear friends Les and Nan Grimes loved and cared for her and her family over the years and supported them tirelessly during her recent illness.
Surviving are four children and eight grandchildren: son Charles and wife Gail, grandsons Jonathan and Jordan of Lewisville; son Guy and wife Donna, grandchildren Elisabeth and Joshua of Charlotte; son Scott and wife Karen, grandsons Caleb and Matthew; and daughter Lisa Bailey and husband Michael, grandchildren Spencer and Kendall of Wake Forest.
Funeral services were held at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Al Gilbert, Dr. C. Mark Corts, and Dr. Gary D. Chapman officiating.
Gladys Braun Seawell
Gladys Braun Seawell, 77, of Pfafftown died March 19 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born February 26, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Ernest Joseph and Lillian Collins Braun. She worked with the Girl Scouts Tarheel Triad Council for more than 30 years. A long-term member of the American Business Women’s Association, she had served as a past president of the local chapter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Martin Seawell II, in 1957.
Surviving are three sons, Lloyd Seawell and wife Cindy of Pfafftown, Russell Seawell of Winston-Salem and Bradley Seawell of Charlotte; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Braun of Richmond, Va., and Pat Seawell of Winston-Salem; and four grandchildren, Russell and Jessica Hendricks of Pfafftown and Martin and Cissie Seawell of Winston-Salem.
Funeral services were held at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel with Rev. Howard G. Backus officiating, and burial followed in Forsyth Memorial Park.
Phillip W. Smith
Phillip W. “Smitty” Smith, 75, of Clemmons, died March 20 at his home. He was born February 20, 1929, in Pueblo, Colo., son of the late Willard Wilcot Smith and Florence Louise Williams Smith. He was the youngest of five children. He was a Korean War Veteran in the U.S. Navy and a champion wrestler fly weight division of the South Pacific. He was retired from Westinghouse after 40 years of service. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Sue Smith.
Surviving are his loving wife of 50 and 1/2 years, Dorothy Smith; five children, Kathleen Stover and husband William of San Jose, Calif., Carolyn Hope and husband Jay Fritz of Leavenworth, Wash., Phillip W. Smith and David Smith and wife Nicole, all of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Janet Huskins of Pueblo, Colo.
A memorial service was held at West Side Baptist Church.
Viola Lewis
Viola “Ola” Lewis, 85, formerly of Belews Creek and Winston-Salem died March 16 at High Point Regional Hospital. After 25 years of service, she retired from Western Electric, later known as Lucent Technologies. She was also employed for 19 years and six months with Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, where she enjoyed serving many customers at the Stratford Road location. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer “T” Lewis; her parents, William Samuel and Carrie Friddle Lee; a brother, Julius Lee; her sisters, Ruby Beckner, Mabel Mullins, Jewel DeSart, Virginia Carter and Ann Smith; and a great-grandchild, Joshua Wayne Cooper.
Surviving are four daughters, Dorothy Huneycutt and husband Russell Delo of Winston-Salem, Edna Levy and husband Dr. Louis Levy of Rocky Mount, Nancy Cruise and husband Al Cruise of Rural Hall and Alice Avary and husband Robert Avary of Kernersville; seven grandsons, Larry Dale Cooper Jr. and wife Mitzi of Clemmons, James W. Welch of High Point, Jonathan L. Welch of Statesville, Robert Avary of Kernersville, Jeffrey A. Levy of Greenville, Charles Huneycutt III of Bellevue, Wash., and Daryl W. Cooper and wife Tammy of Winston-Salem; and two great-granddaughters, Sarah and Anna Cooper.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home Chapel in Kernersville with Rev. Glenn Murphy officiating. A graveside service was held at Goodwill Baptist Church Cemetery in Kernersville with Rev. Murphy officiating.
Thelma Moorefield-Worrell
Thelma Moorefield-Worrell, 88, of Winston-Salem died March 20 at the Brian Center. She was born May 9, 1915, in Stokes County to Grover Cleveland and Maggie Mabe Mabe and was a lifelong member of Pine Ridge Primitive Baptist Church. She worked with the Forsyth County School System until she retired. She was preceded in death in 1955 by her first husband, John Bruce Moorefield, and a son, Bruce Aubrey Moorefield; in 1977 by her second husband, Samuel Denny Worrell; a stepdaughter, Gloria W. Smith; a brother, Vinson Mabe; and three sisters, Duval Sulinski, Lavalle Williams and Sybil Crabtree.
Surviving are three children, Arlene M. Arnoczy and husband Joe, Sylvia M. Spell and husband Derrell L., all of Clemmons, and Susan M. Harrell and husband Bob of Pfafftown; two stepchildren, Alvin D. Worrell and wife June and Gary L. Worrell and wife Martha of Texas; a brother, Boyd Mabe of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Lucille Saunders of Asheboro and Elaine Maness of Star; six grandchildren, Michelle A. Holcomb and husband Brent, Amanda H. Cleary and husband David, Shea S. (Damian) Crews and husband Damian, Mitchell B. Harrell, Aubrey J. Arnoczy and Darian K. Spell and wife Pamela; four stepgrandchildren, Terrie W. Sisk and husband Mike, Beth W. Davis and husband Todd, Kelli W. Eddy and Kevin Worrell; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Burroughs Funeral Home, and burial followed in the Walnut Cove Cemetery.
