LaGRANGE - Miss Edith Rose Hemby, 50, died Friday morning at Lenoir Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Taylor-Edwards Funeral Home in Snow Hill. Burial will follow in the Snow Hill Cemetery.
Miss Hemby was a life long resident of the Arba community of Greene County. She worked as a Respiratory Therapist at Lenoir Memorial Hospital for 27 years and in recent years worked with National Sleep performing clinical sleep apnea research.
Survivors include: parents, Jimmie and Annie Heath Hemby of the home; sister, Linda H. Pate and husband, Wilton of Ayden; brother, James Hemby and wife, Jane of Wendell; nieces, Dale Hines of Greenville, LeAnn Lyerly of Zebulon, Willa Sugg of Winterville, Amy Cobb of Willow Spring; great-nephews, Justin Avery of Zebulon, Jordan Smith of Greenville, Matthew and Michael Sugg of Winterville; aunt, Essie Heath of Snow Hill.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

GEORGE H. HOUSE
DUNN - Mr. George H. House, age 56, of 55 Wordsworth Drive, Dunn, died Friday, April 30, 1999 at his residence. Mr. House , a Harnett County native, was the son of the late Henry Cleveland House. Mr. House was employed by Food Lion in Dunn as a truck driver and was a member of Midway Pentecostal Holiness Church in Erwin where he served as a deacon and adult Sunday School teacher.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 1999 at Midway Pentecostal Holiness Church in Erwin. Officiating will be Rev. Randy Anderson, Rev. Jimmy Barnhill, and Rev. Jerome Pope. Burial will follow in Devotional Gardens Cemetery in Dunn.
Survivors include his mother, Hazel House Williams of Dunn; wife, Dorothy Jernigan House of the home; daughter, Debra House Barefoot of Dunn; son-in-law, George A. Barefoot, Jr. of Dunn; brother, Donnie C. House of Salisbury, NC; sister, Martha House Ray of Lillington, NC; three grandchildren, George Brandon Barefoot, Brandy Elizabeth Barefoot, and Brittney Leigh Barefoot of Dunn.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday night at the Cromartie Miller & Lee Funeral Home in Dunn, NC.
There will be a sign language interpreter at the service on Sunday.
DELIA MITCHELL LEE
KNIGHTDALE - Delia Mitchell Lee, 88, died Thursday, April 29, 1999. Mrs. Lee was a retired teacher with Wake County Schools and Franklin County Schools. Mrs. Lee was formerly of 103 Green Street, and was a member of Green Pines Baptist Church. Memorial service 3 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 1999 at Green Pines Baptist Church. There will be a private burial at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh.
Surviving: daughter, Judy L. Austin and her husband, Patrick Austin of Raleigh; grandchildren, Chris Austin and his wife, Kristie Austin, Angela A. and her husband, Lewis Bowman, Elizabeth A. and her husband, Mike Jasper; sister, Erlene M. Edwards of Spring Hope; brothers, Glenn Mitchell and Fred Mitchell, both of Bunn.
Family will receive relatives and friends Sunday, May 2, 1999, following the service in the vestibule of Green Pines Baptist Church from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and other times at the home of Judy and Pat Austin, 1912 Carrington Drive, Raleigh, NC.

ZEBULON - Violet Perry Martin, 53, of 265 Howard Tant Road, Zebulon, N.C. died Thursday, April 29, 1999. Funeral 2 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 1999 at Poplar Spring Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Old Bunn Cemetery, Bunn, N.C.
She is survived by: husband, Mickey Martin; son, Guy Martin and daughter-in-law Beverly Martin of Garner; daughter, Renee Martin of the home; brothers, Dallas Perry of Holly Ridge, N.C. and Tim Hatcher of Zebulon; sisters, Pam Alford of Bunn, Cris Creech of Zebulon and Joann Helms of Selma; special Mom, Ruth Hatcher of Zebulon.

HELENE S. MATTEI
LYNDONVILLE, VT - Helene S. Mattei, 81, of Lyndonville, VT died on Thursday, April 29, 1999 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
She was born on July 7, 1917 in New Haven, CT, the daughter of the late Maximilian and Margaret (Cewe) Streich. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward M. Mattei in 1998.
Survivors: sons, Glenn Martin Mattei of Alexandria, VA, Kenneth Thomas Mattei of Lyndonville, VT; six grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 3, 1999 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Lyndonville. Burial, Mt. Calvary Cemetery in St. Johnsbury, VT.

HARRY STEWART PEARSON
CLINTON - Mr. Harry Stewart Pearson, 78, of 1275 East Mt. Gilead Church Road, died Thursday, April 29, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Holly Grove Presbyterian Church with Rev. Patrick Winkler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Pearson was native of Sampson County, the son of the late J. Thomas and Corinna Sutton Pearson and an Elder at Holly Grove Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of WWII and a member of the Woodman of the World.
Surviving are his wife: Mrs. Janet Grantham Pearson of the home; two daughters, Linda P. Hyatt of Wilmington and Mary P. Arven-Harvey of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; sister, Frances "Frankie" Smith of Clinton; two brothers, Ashley Gray Pearson of Clinton and Lacey Lynwood Pearson of Goldsboro; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home and other times at the home.
THOMAS ALLEN PIPKIN
RALEIGH - Thomas Allen Pipkin Sr., 70, died Thursday, April 29.
Mr. Pipkin is survived by his wife, Margaret H. Pipkin; son, T. Allen Pipkin Jr.; daughter, Kim Pipkin Worsham and husband Steve all of Raleigh; brother, James Pipkin of Elizabeth City; and grandchildren, William Thomas Pipkin, Brooke Morgan Pipkin and Lacey Autumn Worsham.
Funeral services will be held in the North Raleigh Funeral Home Chapel, 7615 Six Forks Road, 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 1 with Pastor Murray Haber officiating. Burial will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.

Jonathan is the step-grandson of Reverend Willie Jones of Fuquay-Varina. Jonathan was preceded in death by his mother, Deborah Collins Wall on January 31, 1983.

GARNER - Minnie Lee Lassiter Sauls, 87, of 601 Lakeside Drive, died Friday. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Elder Simeon J. Sauls.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Garner. Burial, Middle Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving: daughters and sons-in-law, Fay and Ed Harrington of Graham, Edith and Stan Conyers of Garner, and Audrey and John Richardson of Garner; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

OXFORD - Donald J. "Dan" Thaxton, Sr., 69, a resident of 112 Westbury Drive, died Friday, April 30, 1999 at his home. A native of Granville County, the son of the late William Merritt and Beulah Haithcock Thaxton. A veteran of Special Forces of the U.S. Army, a member of Oxford Baptist Church and was former owner-operator of Oxford Heating & Air Conditioning. Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Oxford Baptist Church by Dr. Steve Bolton, Rev. Pat Cox, and Rev. Tommy Robertson. Burial will be in Cornith Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving: wife, Carolyn Dement Thaxton; son, Donald J. "Jeff" Thaxton Jr. and wife, (Charlotte) of Franklinton; four step-children, Phyllis W. McLauren and husband (Lee) of Baton Rouge, LA, Walter P. Wilson Jr. and wife, (Marsha) of Oxford, Mary Ann W. Watson and husband (Edgar) of Oxford, and L. Dian Wilson of Colonial Heights, VA; grandchildren, Crystal and Daniel Thaxton, Jon Adcock, Chad and Casey Wilson, Joshua, Gabriel, Lauren, and Daniel Watson; sisters, Mary Ella T. Roberts and husband (Owen) of Creedmoor, Sue T. Woodlief and husband (Robert) of Durham; brother, Ralph L. RALEIGH - Miss Laura Wood White, 85, of Barmettler Street, die d Friday, April 30th. A lifelong resident of Raleigh, she is survived by her brother, Col. A. Wray White (Ret.), Terrance Park, OH and a niece, Catharine B. White of Skokie, IL.
She was employed as an administrator with Selective Service for the State of North Carolina. A memorial service will held 2 p.m. Monday, May 3, 1999 in the Chapel of The Annunciation, Christ Church. ANNE ELIZABETH YOUNG
RALEIGH - Anne Elizabeth Young, 50, of Raleigh, died Thursday. Mrs. Young was a Middle School Counselor with the Benson Middle School.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, May 1, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church.
Mrs. Young is survived by her daughter Anne-Marie Suddreth and husband Scott of Boone, N.C.; parents Robert Lloyd Young and Betty Calhoun Young of Raleigh; 2 stepsons Michael Gregory and wife Pat, Steve Gregory and wife Lynn both of Raleigh; one sister Mary Margaret Arnold of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a niece Jennifer Law of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

BETTY JEAN GULLIE BARNES
RALEIGH - Mrs. Betty Jean Gullie Barnes, 61, a beloved wife and loving mother, of 8917 Deerland Grove Drive, died Sunday at Rex Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Durham on September 28, 1937, daughter of Ernest L. and Halsie Lloyd Gullie. She was an employee of Cooper Industries and a former employee with FCX.
She is survived by her husband, Stephen R. Barnes; son, Stephen L. Barnes and wife, Jennifer of Garner; daughter, Susan Dale Barnes of Raleigh; brothers, George Gullie and J.C. Gullie, both of Durham; grandchildren, Stephen Walker Barnes and Carsyn Jean Barnes.
A funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 29, 1999 at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave. Mr. W. Gerald Thornton, Mr. Grady Barnes and Mr. Joseph Barnes will conduct the services. Interment will follow in Raleigh Memorial Park.

HAZEL V. CASTLEBERRY
RALEIGH - Hazel Virginia Castleberry, 75, of Raleigh died Tuesday, April 27, 1999. Mrs. Castleberry was born in Wake County the daughter of the late, Martell and Beulah Jones, and was predeceased by her husband, Robert J. Castleberry.
An entombment service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 29, 1999 in the mausoleum at Oakwood Cemetery.
Surviving are her brother, Herbert Jones of Raleigh and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received Wednesday at the residence of Ernest L. Gray, 5805 Country Forrest Rd., Raleigh, NC.
