Madeline Dunne Johnson
Madeline Dunne Johnson, 84, of Brooksville, Fla. died December 5 in Morrisville, N.C. She was born September 28, 1918, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late John and Martha Sheridan Dunne. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Joseph Francis Johnson in July 1996; and her brother and sisters, Jack, Kathleen, Dorothy and Eileen.
Surviving are her children, Joseph Johnson and wife Kathie of Lewisville, Maureen Johnson O’Keefe of Charlotte, and Kevin Johnson and wife Liz of Morrisville; seven grandchildren, Eileen O’Keefe Haynes and husband Michael of Marietta, Ga., Jerry O’Keefe and wife Vickie of Charlotte, Jennifer O’Keefe of Charlotte, Kaitlyn Johnson and Sean Johnson, both of Lewisville, and Allison Johnson and Meaghan Johnson, both of Morrisville; three great-grandchildren, Dean O’Keefe and Patrick O’Keefe, both of Charlotte, and Maureen Haynes of Marietta, Ga.; two nieces, Christine Nicolletti of Long Island, N.Y., and Cathleen Breeze of London, United Kingdom; and a nephew, Robert O’Toole of Long Island, N.Y.
A Funeral Mass was held at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Michael Buttner officiating, and burial followed in Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte.

Posey Lee Branscome Sr.
Posey Lee Branscome Sr., 90, died March 22 at Meadowbrook Manor of Clemmons after a seven month illness. He was born November 27, 1912, in Carroll County, Va. to the late Lee and Lizzie Morris Branscome. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was co-owner of Konnoak Hills Food Market with his two brothers, Fred and Ernest, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Velma Flippin Branscome; a daughter, Debbie Maynard and husband Steve of Winston-Salem; two sons, Rev. Michael W. Branscome and wife Linda of Aberdeen and Rev. Butch Branscome and wife Amy of Charlotte; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Virginia Boone of Winston-Salem; and two sisters-in-law, Lucy and Louise Branscome.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Gary McCollough and Dr. Ray Hamilton officiating, and burial followed in Forsyth Memorial Park.

Sarah Davis Foster
Sarah Davis Foster, 70, of Clemmons died March 21 at her home. She was born July 14, 1932, in Forsyth County to Thomas Jefferson and Emily Bessent Davis. She was a member of Clemmons Moravian Church and retired from CVS drug store. She was preceded in death by a son, Kelly “Andy” Foster, in 2001.
Surviving are a brother, Sam Davis and wife Pat; two sisters, Emma Tesh and husband Bill and Suzanne Davis and husband Parke; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Leonard McLaughlin; and a special cousin, Eugenia Howard, all of Clemmons.
A graveside service was held at the Clemmons Moravian Church graveyard with Rev. Q. Ray Burke officiating.

Hazel Tesh Mann
Hazel Tesh Mann, 81, of Winston-Salem died at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home on March 21. She was born September 14, 1921, in Winston-Salem, the daughter of Clyde M. and Effie Whitman Tesh. She was a member of First Christian Church for 75 years. She was employed by Southern Dairies as a bookkeeper during the war years followed by employment in the family business of Tesh Grocery for many years.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Romulus M. Mann Jr. of the home; a daughter, Ginny Tussey and husband Skip of Clemmons; a son, Romulus M. Mann III and wife Nola of Lewisville; five special granddaughters, Emily and Sara Tussey, Spc. Whitney and husband Sgt. Troy Robinson of Fort Bragg and Courtney and Tiffaney Mann of Lewisville; two great-granddaughters; and two loving sisters, Virginia and Peggy Tesh of Winston-Salem.
Funeral services were held at First Christian Church with Rev. Dexter Simpson officiating, and burial followed at Forsyth Memorial Park.

Florence E. Martin
Florence E. Martin, 86, of Winston-Salem died March 19 at Clemmons Village I. She was born October 1, 1916, in Winston-Salem, the daughter of the late Thomas Venable and Florence Brown Edmunds. She was a member of Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are two daughters; a son; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jeff White officiating.

Michael Darrell Ridge
Michael Darrell Ridge, 38, of Clemmons died March 22 at his residence. He was born November 3, 1964, in High Point to Lewis Darrell Ridge and Gedora Dagenhart Ridge. He was a resident of Clemmons for the past five years and owned and operated Clemmons Builders. He was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Levon Smith Ridge of the home; a daughter, Taylor Nicole Ridge of the home; a son, Justin Smith Ridge of the home; his mother, Jo Mace of High Point; his father, Lewis Darrell Ridge of Sophia; two sisters, Lynn Pace of Colfax and Kelli Johnson of Winter Springs, Fla.; and a brother, Keith Ridge of Trinity.
A memorial service was held in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point with Rev. Carroll M. Upton officiating.

Kimberly Renee Sealey McCormick
Kimberly Renee Sealey McCormick, 44, of Winston-Salem died March 16 at Watauga County Hospital. She was born in Forsyth County on November 16, 1958, the daughter of Paul Sealey Sr. and the late Glenda Tilley Jones. She was formerly employed as a sales and marketing agent.
Surviving are her father of Winston-Salem; two sons, Shane and Seth McCormick of Holton, Ind.; a brother, Paul “Eddie” Sealey Jr. of Jonesville; three sisters, Karen Sealy of Winston-Salem, Buffy Jones of Clemmons and Kristi Parker of King; a stepfather, Bobby Jones of King; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Carolyn Ward Scheviak
Carolyn Ward Scheviak, 74, of Clemmons died March 24 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born January 1, 1929, in Winston-Salem to W.T. and Era Mecum Ward of Walkertown. She and her husband owned and operated Carolina Art Craft and Hobby in Asheville until their retirement in 1992. She moved to Clemmons in November 2000. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Harvey H. Scheviak, in March 2000 and her sister, Martha W. Welborne.
Surviving are her four children, Leslie S. Lewis and husband Clifford of Lewisville, Cathryn S. Gentry and husband Allen of Clemmons, Thomas W. Scheviak and wife Andrea of Raleigh and Emily E. Scheviak of Cary; five grandchildren, Daniel and Amy Lewis, Stephanie Gentry and Cory and Tyler Scheviak; and special friends, Millie and Norman.
Funeral services were held at Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel with Rev. Roland Barnhardt officiating, and burial followed at Gardens of Memory, Walkertown.

Winfred J. McGhinnis
Winfred J. McGhinnis, 71, of Zionville died March 21 at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro. He was born April 14, 1931, in Vilas, Watauga County, to the late Charles H. and Sallie Hodges McGhinnis. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired truck driver for Wilcox Drug Co. in Boone. He was a member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church in Vilas. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Ray McGhinnis; three brothers, Robert McGhinnis, Council McGhinnis and Marion McGhinnis; and a sister, Virgie McGhinnis Grove.
Surviving are his wife, Emogene S. McGhinnis of the home; two daughters, Angela Moody and husband Mike of Pinehurst and Anna Leigh McGhinnis Burke of Clemmons; a grandson, Jared Drew Moody of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Amber Leigh Moody of Waco, Texas; a sister, Daisy Hollars of Blowing Rock; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church with Rev. Carl Wilson and Rev. Derrick Hodges officiating, and burial followed in the Danner Cemetery in Vilas.

Kenneth Larry Sheek Sr.
Kenneth Larry Sheek Sr., 65, of Pfafftown died March 19 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born May 28, 1937, in Forsyth County to the late Gorrell Roosevelt Sheek Sr. and Eva Flora Caudle Sheek. He was retired from the railroad and was a member of GWRRA Chapter B-2. He was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church, a member of the Chancel Choir and “The Group.” He was preceded in death by a brother, G.R. Sheek Jr., and two sisters, Eloise Brown and Wilma Reece.
Surviving are his wife, Wanda Hardie Sheek of the home; a son, K.L. Sheek Jr. and wife Amy of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Cindi Maidens-Thompson and husband Lance of Manassas, Va.; three grandsons, Chase and Spencer Sheek and Matt Maidens; five sisters, Bernice Hayes of Crumpler, Romaine Angel of Providence, Reba Welch and husband Gene of Winston-Salem, Kay Taylor and husband Gary of Advance and Cathy Boyd of Tobaccoville; a brother, Phil Sheek and wife Debbie of Rural Hall; a host of nieces and nephews; and many loving friends.
Funeral services were held at Mineral Springs Baptist Church with Dr. James A. “Gus” Thomas and Dr. Cecil Cave, and burial followed at Forsyth Memorial Park.

Mary Stetson Turck
Mary Stetson Turck, 94, died March 20 at Clemmons Village. She was a member of the Durham Connecticut Homemakers. Before coming to North Carolina several years ago, she lived in Durham, Conn., where she was active in wildlife preservation and animal care. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlow E. Turck.
Surviving are her son, David Turck and wife Meredith of Lewisville; a grandson, Jeff Turck of Fairfield, Ohio; and a granddaughter, Amy Turck of Wilmington.

Penelope Arnold Homer
Penelope “Penny” Arnold Homer, 28, of Cosby, Tenn. died March 9 at UT Hospital in Knoxville, Tenn. She was a Christian and was employed by Huddle House in Newport, Tenn. She was born in Elmira, N.Y. and graduated from Davie High School in Mocksville. She lived in the Winston-Salem area before moving to Cosby, Tenn., where she married her soul mate, Gator. Her sister, Kellie Arnold, preceded her in death.
Surviving are her husband, Charles “Gator” Homer of Cosby, Tenn.; her son, Ian Macgregor Homer (age 1); her parents, James W. Arnold of Milbridge, Maine, and Beverly S. Arnold of Winston-Salem; sisters Roxanne Weatherman and husband Arnold of Mocksville, Jennifer Cummings and husband, Mark of Pfafftown and Jamie Tuttle of Lewisville; her maternal grandmother, Jeanette Surface of Winston-Salem; her in-laws, Rusty and Jean Homer of Cosby, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Michelle Ledbetter; Gator’s grandma, Esther Dickeson; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.
A memorial service was held at the Old Chapel at Tanglewood Park with Rev. Harold England officiating.

William Dooly Bohannon Jr.
William Dooly Bohannon Jr., 82, of Lawrenceville, Ga. died March 20. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a fighter pilot during World War II. He retired from Western Electric/AT&T as a senior staff engineer after 30 years with 22 patents and numerous other inventions.
Surviving are his wife, Irene Bohannon; his children, Babs Bayliff of Phoenix, Ariz., Becky Marra of Duluth, Ga., William D. Bohannon III of Suwanee, Ga., Michelle Rogers of Clemmons and Jay Rogers of Cumming, Ga.; a brother, Steve Bohannon of Moreland, Ga.; grandchildren David, Terri, Brent, Roy, Troy, Carter, Taylor and Chase; and great-grandchildren Danny, Bekka and Reece.
Funeral services were held at Wages & Sons Gwinnett Funeral Home Chapel in Lawrenceville, Ga. with Rev. Terry Fleming officiating, and burial followed at Gwinnett Memorial Park.

Kermit Ethil Worrell
Kermit Ethil Worrell, 91, of Clemmons died May 29 at his home. He was born November 27, 1911, in Carroll County, Va., to Charles W. and Louisa Bowman Worrell. He was retired from Hanes Dye & Finishing Co. after 41 years of service and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sallie Marshall Worrell, in 1995.
Surviving are three daughters, Jean W. Nitkin and husband Nick of Kernersville, Dorothy W. Wrights and husband Allen of Clemmons and Patricia W. Smith and husband James of Advance; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel, and burial followed at Crestview Memorial Park.

Robert Alexander Essick
Robert Alexander Essick, 79, of Clemmons died May 30 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born September 5, 1923, in Davidson County to the late Davidson and Susan Phelps Essick. He was of the Methodist faith and served his country in World War II. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Nancy; two daughters, Marjorie Essick of Taylorsville and Terry Lee Speer and husband John of Clemmons; a son, Robert Eugene Essick of Clemmons; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Annie Craver of Reedy Creek.
An graveside service was held at Arcadia United Methodist Church Cemetery with Bill Teague officiating.

Lucy Mitchell Hamilton
Lucy Mitchell Hamilton, 83, of Winston-Salem died May 31 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born September 19, 1919, in Iredell County to the late Troy Alfred and Minnie Templeton Mitchell. She was retired from Hanes Knitting with 45 years of service. She was a faithful member of Hanes United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was also in charge of communion at the church for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her husband, John David “J.D.” Hamilton, on May 9, 2003.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty Lewis and husband Phil Foster of Clemmons and Cathy Hallford and husband Mike of Clemmons; two grandchildren, Beth Payne and husband Kevin and David Settle; 11 stepgrandchildren; three sisters, Ruby Wall of Clemmons, Lacy Key of Winston-Salem and Lillian Denny of Hamptonville; a brother, Dwight Mitchell and wife Pauline of Turnersburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Hanes United Methodist Church with Rev. Jimmy Lawton and Rev. Charles Sparks officiating, and burial followed in Westlawn Gardens of Memory.

Dena Peter Booras Pappas
Dena Peter Booras Pappas, 79, of Winston-Salem died May 26. She was born May 21, 1924, in Pensacola, Fla. to Peter and Melpomeni Vassi Booras. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister and a faithful member of the Greek Orthodox Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Nicholas Pappas.
Surviving are two sons, Nicholas James Pappas of Winston-Salem and Pete James Pappas of Lewisville; a daughter, Jenny Pappas Hill and husband Scott of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren, J. Paul Morris, Nicholas J. Pappas Jr., Demetrius Pappas, Ashley Pappas, Bria Pappas, Logan Hill and Austin Hill; three great-grandchildren, Olivia Pappas, Ian Pappas and Hailey Sanford; two brothers, Ted Booras of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. and Dr. William Booras of Neptune Beach, Fla.; and many many devoted sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and dear friends from all over the globe.
Funeral services were held at the Greek Orthodox Church with Father Demetri Kangelaris, Father Dennis Canavos and Father George Kiricoples officiating, and burial followed at Woodland Cemetery.

Lewis Ball
Lewis Ball, 77, of Winston-Salem, died May 26 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born June 13, 1925, in Floyd County, Va. He was an orphan who was adopted by a loving family, Jess and Ida Johnson Ball, who preceded him in death. He served in the CC Corps, US Army, and the National Guard, Co. C., 505th Engineer Battalion. He was a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church. He was a self-made businessman who had a lifelong love of reading and education. He began his career at the Hastings Co. in King. He was owner of Auto Parts Warehouse on Indiana Avenue for 40 years. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge and Pinebrook Country Club for 42 years.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Vertie Watson Ball; his children, Alan Ball and wife Rita of Clemmons, Bonnie Smith and husband Gerald and Donnie Ball and special friend Teresa, all of King, and Ann Roberts and husband Steve of Belews Creek; his grandchildren, Yvonne Newsome and husband David, Chris Smith and Josh Ball of King, Helen Ball, twins Mary and Irene Ball of Clemmons; and a great-grandson, Cole Newsome of King.
Funeral services were held at Little Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Watson and Rev. Jimmy Slate officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery.

William James Killion
William James Killion, 64, of Lewisville died May 27 at his home following a short illness. He was born October 17, 1938, to the late John C. Killion and Margaret O’Kane Killion of Philadelphia, Pa. He served in the U.S. Army and worked for Westinghouse as a manufacturing tool engineer and retired in 1998 after more than 40 years of service. He was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons. He served more than 15 years with the Knights of Columbus (Council No. 9499) and volunteered for the local Habitat for Humanity. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Killion.
Surviving are his loving wife of 36 years, Rosemary, of the home; daughters Rosemary Killion of Knoxville, Tenn., Kathleen Killion Boss and husband Steven of Greensboro, Suzanne Killion Fudge of Winston-Salem; son Andrew Killion of Lewisville; a cherished grandson, Zachary Fudge of Winston-Salem; sisters Peggy Robinson and husband Ed of Folcroft, Pa., and Theresa Oryl of Edgewater, Fla.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons.

Rosa Lee Dubose Flowers
Rosa Lee Dubose Flowers, 86, died May 27 after a long period of illness. She was born February 9, 1917, in Darlington, S.C. She worked as a seasonal worker at the Export Leaf Tobacco Co. She was a faithful member of First Calvary Baptist Church until her health failed. While there, she was a member of the Busy Bee Club, Secret Pals Club and the Missionary Circle. She was preceded in death by her father, Scout Dubose; her mother, Magnolia Dubose; a sister, Virginia McCall; and two brothers, Preston Dubose and Wade Dubose.
Surviving are her husband, Paul Flowers; five daughters, Ann Little and husband Curtiss of Clemmons, Shirley Dubose, Jane Penn, Pauline Allen and husband Willis and Carolyn Carson and husband Albert, all of Winston-Salem; three sons, John Dubose Sr., Charles Dubose and wife Karen and Joseph Flowers, all of Winston-Salem; a godson, Calvin Dubose of Winston-Salem; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews among them a devoted niece, Magnolia Perkins of Winston-Salem; and a host of other cousins and many loving family and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Ambassador Cathedral with Bishop Frederick D. Patterson Sr. officiating, and burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery.

Nettie Jane Winfrey Pilcher
Nettie Jane Winfrey Pilcher, 81, of East Bend, widow of W. Howard Pilcher, died May 31 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born January 23, 1922, in Forsyth County to Solomon Eugene and Mary Riddle Winfrey. She was a faithful member of Enon Baptist Church, member of the Jolly Friends of Enon and a devoted and loving homemaker.
Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Stine and husband James of Clemmons; and three grandchildren, Susan Wiles and husband Abe of Raleigh, Jimmy Stine of Wrightsville Beach and Billy Stine of Clemmons.
Funeral services were held at Enon Baptist Church in East Bend with Rev. Mark Elmore officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery.
