MARGUERITE T. GOODRICH
RICHMOND Va. - Marguerite Tollen Goodrich, 75, born September 13, 1923 in Richmond, departed this life Monday, August 16, 1999 in Raleigh.
Marguerite joins those loved ones who have preceded her in death; husband, Fred; son, Trent; son-in-law, David Purnell.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Goodrich Purnell; three grandchildren, Brianne, Bethany and Ben Purnell; brother-in-law, Norman Bradshaw; two sisters-in-law, Vivian Bradshaw and Rose Goodrich Ware.
Remains rest at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road, where the family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Thursday with funeral service following at 1 p.m. Interment, Westhampton Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Associations.
GERTRUDE M. HUBER
CHAPEL HILL - Gertrude M. Huber, 87, died, Aug. 11, 1999 at Shepherd House, Chapel Hill. She was born in Berlin, Germany and after living in Garden City, NY, was a Chapel Hill/Durham resident since 1973. She was a beautician in NY and owned her own business in Woodside, Long Island. Mrs. Huber was also active as a Girl Scout leader and volunteer for over 10 years.
In her youth, she was a long distance swimmer and as a retiree, enjoyed swimming at the Chapel Hill YMCA.
She was the widow of Harry C. Huber.
She is survived by one daughter, Carol M. Huber of Williamsburg, VA and one brother, Gerhart Storbeck of Newport Ritchie, FL.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Triangle Hospice.
MAGGIE HICKS JEFFREYS
SPRING HOPE - Maggie Hicks Jeffreys, 72, died Monday, August 16, 1999. She was born in Nash County, March 7, 1927, daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Nannie Griffin Hicks. Mrs. Jeffreys was preceded in death by her husband, Julian B. Jeffreys. She was a member of Holly Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving: sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Shelia Jeffreys of Spring Hope, SGM (Ret.-USA), Julian Eric and Angela Jeffreys of Rocky Mount; sisters, Rachel Jeffries of Nashville, Annie Mae Soloman of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Erica Weathers, Tara Finn, T.C. Jeffreys; great-grandchildren, Justin Weathers.
Graveside service will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Oakdale Cemetery in Spring Hope with Rev. Gordon Joyner officiating.
Family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Chapel, Nashville and other times at the home, 925 Holly Road, Spring Hope, NC.
EUNICE M. LEE
APEX - Eunice Marie Lee, 69, of 2733 Evans Rd., died August 16, 1999. Funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday, Christian Chapel United Church of Christ. Burial, church cemetery.
Surviving: husband, Jake Lee, Jr.; daughters, Janet Lee of Cary, Karen Lee and Faye Easley, both of the home; sons, James Whitehead of Raleigh, Allen Lee of the home; brother, Wilbert Whitehead of Apex; son-in-law, Jeffrey Easley; daughter-in-law, Tina Marie Lee; four aunts; four sisters-in-law.

WILLIAM E. McCAUSLEY
KNIGHTDALE - William E. McCausley, 43, of 5452 Sandy Trail Drive, died Monday, August 16, 1999.

THOMAS L. PATRICK
GREENSBORO - Thomas Love Patrick, 87, died August 16, 1999 at Clapp's Nursing Center in Pleasant Garden.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 20, 1999 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Patrick is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Elizabeth Herrington Patrick of Greensboro; two daughters, Susan of Albuquerque, N.M., Linda of New Orleans, La.; son, Michael of Hillsboro; three grandchildren, Rachel of Albuquerque, N.M., Rose and Gabriel of New Orleans, La.; sister, Isabel Daniel and niece, Jane Gibson of Greensboro.
Mr. Patrick, son of Presbyterian minister, Robert Love Patrick and Esther Neal Johnson Patrick, was born in Danville, Ark., but grew up in Union County, N.C. After graduating from Davidson College, he taught English and coached basketball at Woodleaf High School, later serving as school principal. He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. After the war, he earned his masters and Ph.D. degrees from U.N.C. Chapel Hill. He taught at Catawba College in Salisbury later moving to New Orleans. From 1952-1977, he was a professor at Tulane University and became assistant director of the Center for Teachers' Education.
A member of many professional organizations, Mr. Patrick wrote a number of professional articles and authored a History of Education in North Carolina. In 1958, he toured northern European schools and later Russian schools to conduct a comparative study.
He was an active member and elder of St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church in New Orleans. Upon retirement, Mr. Patrick and his wife moved to Greensboro where he held membership at First Presbyterian Church. He was also a Mason and a Kiwanian.
Mr. Patrick will be remembered as a devout Christian and a man who was devoted to his family.

HELEN A. WAGAR
RALEIGH - Helen Ann Wagar, 79, a resident of Sunrise of Raleigh Assisted Living Residence, died Wed., Aug. 4, 1999. She was a Roman Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
Mrs. Wagar is survived by a daughter, Sharon A. Fake and her husband, Michael; half brother, John Ryan; sister, Mary Sicker; granddaughter, Megan Elizabeth Fake.
Mrs. Wagar was employed as an executive assistant to the Town of Colonie Supervisor and retired in 1990.
Mrs. Wagar made a anatomical donation to Duke University for medical research.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, Aug 20, 1999 at the Sunrise Assisted Living Residence.

ETHEL VIOLA WINSTEAD
BUNN - Miss Ethel Viola Winstead, 98, died Monday, 8/16/99 in Franklin Regional Medical Center, Louisburg. She was born in Wilson County on April 3, 1901 in the Silver Lake area and moved with her parents and family to Franklin County in 1912. She lived in the Bunn Community at Halls Cross Roads for 86 years. She attended school in Wilson and Franklin Counties. She was the daughter of John Solomon Winstead and Annie Wright Thompson Winstead.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Winstead Medlin of Louisburg; six brothers, Redmond (Red), Winstead of Wendell, Everett (Jay) Winstead of Raleigh, Carroll (Bud) Winstead, Sr., Wayne Winstead, Stephen Winstead, Macon (Mutt) Winstead, all of Bunn.
She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Ruth Fuller Winstead of Bunn, Gladys Winstead of Raleigh; many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held 4:30 p.m. Wednesday from the Bunn Cemetery.

ERNEST RUDY FRANKS
RALEIGH - Ernest Rudy Franks, 72, of 116 St. Mary's St., died Sunday, October 3, 1999. Mr. Franks was born in Johnston County to the late Samuel and Bettie Spears Franks. Mr. Franks served his country in the US Army, and prior to his retirement, Mr. Franks was a Printer for Corporate Press.
Funeral service will e conducted 2 p.m. Thursday in the Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Edward Norris officiating. Burial will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.
Surviving is his daughter, Gloria Franks Sherman and husband, Harold of Garner; son, Samuel "Sammy" Franks of Garner; brothers, Robert and Jim Franks, both of Raleigh; former wife, Doris Franks Moser of Garner; granddaughters, Sheila Sherman Wilkins and husband, Anthony, Michelle Bumgarner and husband, Jeff, all of Garner, Annette Sherman Rawls and husband, Dale of Clayton, Crystal Franks of Knightdale; two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Patrick.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Montlawn Funeral Home, 2911 Wilmington St.
Ernest was a beloved father, grandfather, and special friend, and will be sorely missed.
JOANNE KIRKMAN PEGRAM
CARY - Joanne Kirkman Pegram, 45, of Cary, died Saturday, October 2, 1999 at Western Wake Hospital after an extended illness. Joanne served as Secretary to the Executive Board of PBM Graphics, Inc. She and husband Terry Pegram founded the company in 1983. Joanne was active in the formation and ongoing success of the Jimmy V Classic Golf Tournament. She was a founding member of the Cary Debutante Ball Society and contributed to the success of the Cary Art Ball.
Joanne was born in Greensboro, NC in 1954. She was a graduate of Grimsley High School and Averett College where she earned a degree in Fine Art.
Joanne is survived by her husband, Terry Lyn Pegram and stepson Brian Shane Pegram both of Cary; mother, Anne Kirkman Wade and husband Bert Wade; sister, Jacqueline Lee Kirkman; and brother, Joe Wyatt Kirkman all of Greensboro. Joanne was a beloved aunt to 11 nieces and nephews.
Joanne was preceded in death by her father, Joe Wyatt Kirkman Sr. who died in 1986.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 5th from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. at Joanne's residence of 103 Marseilles Place, Cary to celebrate her life. The funeral will be Wednesday, October 6th at 3:00 p.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Apex. The burial will follow at Apex Cemetery.
Joanne will be remembered for her great love of art, music, and gardening which touched all aspects of her life. She was a loyal, supportive wife, a loving and caring daughter and sister, and a generous friend to many.

JOHN LACY ALLEN
RALEIGH - John Lacy Allen, 73, of 214 South Haywood Street, passed on Monday, September 27, 1999 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Durham. A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 5, 1999 at Rush Metropolitan AME Zion Church, with the Rev. C.E. Willie, III officiating.
He is survived by his mother, Susie B. Adams of Meadowbrook Terrace Nursing home; two daughters; one brother, James William Allen of Los Angeles, CA; three grandchildren; four uncles, Walter Gaines of High Point, Daniel Gaines of Randleman, Bonnie Gaines of Boston, MA, Floyd Gaines of Raleigh; two aunts, Coralean G. Morgan and Minnie G. Flagg, both of Raleigh; a host of relatives and friends. His loyal canine companion, Jean, also survives him.
EVELYN ETHERIDGE ALSTON
ROCKY MOUNT - Evelyn Etheridge Alston, 68, died Sunday, October 3, 1999. She was born November 15, 1930 in Edgecombe County, the daughter of the late William Clarence and Betty Adkins Etheridge. Mrs. Alston was a nurses assistant for the Rocky Mount Sanitarium and she attended Avalon Baptist Church.
She is survived by three sons, G.B. Jr. and Alice Alston of Rocky Mount, Larry and Carolyn Moss Alston of Rocky Mount, Terry and Debbie Alston of Nashville; daughters, Betsy and William Warwick and Barbara and Albert E. Joyner, both of Rocky Mount; brothers, William C. Etheridge of Whitakers, J.D. Etheridge of Rocky Mount, Wayne Etheridge of Weldon; sisters, Lois Wells of Weldon, Velma Pope of Battleboro, Nancy Stallings of Rocky Mount, Betty Jean Fountain of Whitakers; 12 grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 6, 1999 at Bowling Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tommy Harvey. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.

CLINA NORWOOD BAILEY
RALEIGH - Clina Norwood Bailey, 97, of Raleigh, passed away Saturday, October 2, 1999, at Rex Convalescent Center.
Funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, October 5, 1999, at 2:00 p.m., in the Old Chapel of Bayleaf Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Bailey was born September 14, 1902, in Wake Co., the daughter of the late George and Susan Thompson Norwood. She was a lifelong resident of Wake Co., had taught school in the Bayleaf Community, and was an active member of Bayleaf Baptist Church. Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Job Bailey, in 1972.
Surviving are: her son, James Alton Bailey Sr. of Raleigh; a sister, Virginia Buchanan of Raleigh; three grandchildren, James Alton Bailey Jr., Wayne Bailey, and Craig Bailey, all of Raleigh; and eleven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Monday, October 4, 1999, from 7 until 8:30 p.m., at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh.

LOIS O. BRADFIELD
RALEIGH - Lois O'Neal Bradfield, 87, died Sunday, October 3, 1999. Mrs. Bradfield was born and educated in Wake County, and lived in the Bayleaf community for over 30 years. She also lived in Abbotswood Retirement Center. She retired from Stix, Baer & Fuller, St. Louis, MO, after 30 years of service. Mrs. Bradfield was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Surviving: are her sisters, Rachel O'Neal Thomas and Rebecca O'Neal Peacock, both of Raleigh; nephews and nieces, Fred O'Neal, Wallace O'Neal, Barry Thomas, Robert Thomas, Doug Peacock, Diane Masiclat, Gary Peacock, Janet O'Neal and David O'Neal. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold D. Bradfield, in 1990.
The funeral will be Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. in Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in Montlawn Memorial Park. Friends may visit Tuesday, 7-8:30 p.m. in Mitchell Funeral Home, 600 St. Mary's Street.
