Rev. Robert William Bear
The Rev. Robert William Bear, 82, the husband of Gladys Mary Bear, who resides at Independence Village in Winston-Salem, died October 4 at The Elms at Tanglewood in Clemmons. He was born November 2, 1919 in Norway, Iowa to the late Loren and Josephine Bear. He was ordained at Calvary Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and served churches in Downey, Rose Hill and Sully, Iowa, and Minot, N.D. The Rev. Bear was instrumental in developing the Sunday school movement in the 1950s as sales director for Scripture Press, Gospel Light, and David C. Cook Publishing. He was a member of Christian Booksellers Association and owner of Christian Book and Bible Supply in Cedar Rapids. He was an active foster parent. After retirement he ministered to youth at the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home in Enterprise, Fla., as a house parent and as a member of the executive staff. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and David Bear.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years; three sons, Roger Bear and wife Barbara of Lexington, Richard Bear and wife Janie of Winston-Salem and Robert Bear and wife Karen of Longwood, Fla.; one daughter, Reva Brugnioli and husband Bob of Vero Beach, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Guth and husband Charles of Sebring, Fla.; and many others who considered him their father through his work as a foster parent and house parent at the Children’s Home.
A memorial service was held at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel.

Robert Devon Mock
Robert Devon Mock, 69, of Clemmons died October 3 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born March 12, 1933, in Davidson County to Howard Alexander and Vertie Foltz Mock. He was a retired employee of the Sara Lee Corp. of Winston-Salem and was a member of Good Hope United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Dare Hege Mock; a sister, Frances Berrier; and a brother, Johnny Mock.
Surviving are a daughter, Debbie Vestal and husband Keith of Clemmons; his sisters, Zelma McCrary and Gail Perrell, both of Lexington; a brother, Larry Mock of Lexington; and his granddaughters, April Vestal and Amanda Vestal.
Funeral services were held at Good Hope United Methodist Church with Rev. Arthur Holland officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery.

Georgia Myers Allen
Georgia Myers Allen, 67, of Mocksville died October 1 at Meadowbrook Manor of Clemmons. She was born June 13, 1935, in Davie County to the late Carl and Reba Howard Myers and was retired from Sara Lee Corp. with 42 years of service. She was a member of Green Meadows Baptist Church, and enjoyed gardening and cooking. She was preceded in death by a brother, C.L. Myers.
Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Bobby Gene Allen of the home; a daughter, Kathy Needs and husband Bill of Advance; three grandchildren, Allison Bowden, Andrew Needs and Daniel Needs; a brother, Herbert Myers of Columbia, S.C., several nieces and nephews; and several very special brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services were held at Mount Olive United Methodist Church with Rev. Luther Crady and Rev. Michael Waters officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery.

J.R. Campbell
J.R. Campbell, 79, of Cherryville, father of MT Etc. owner Marilyn Temples, died October 4 at his home. He was born June 27, 1923 in Lincoln County to the late Winfield Scott and Mary Fredell Campbell. He was employed as a warehouse foreman with Carolina Freight Carrier for 21 years and retired as a security guard with Guardmark of Charlotte. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of First Baptist Church in Cherryville and the Woodmen of the World Lodge 579 in Cherryville. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Laura Annie Campbell; and two brothers, William W. and W. Scott Campbell.
Surviving are his wife, Vergie Hannon Campbell of the home; his mother-in-law, Vera Neill Hannon of Cherryville; a son, J. Rick Campbell Jr. and wife Beverly of Cherryville; three daughters, Marilyn Temples and fiance Rich Adams of Clemmons, Joan Gaulden and husband Earle of Greenville, S.C. and Christine McCall and husband John of Cherryville; six grandchildren, Rich Campbell, Ali Beale, Trey McCall, Dean Lake, Hunt Gaulden and Margaret Gaulden; a great-granddaughter, Hannah Gaulden; two brothers, John E. Campbell of Cherryville and Emanuel Campbell of Shelby; and six sisters, Wilma Davidson, Frances Hord and Pinkie Sanders, all of Cherryville, Sue Sneed and Catherine Mull of Waco and Louise Adams of Bessemer City.
A graveside service was held at City Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Vience Hepner officiating.

Ethel LeVan Griffin
Ethel LeVan Griffin, 88, of Medinah, Ill., formerly of Winston-Salem, died October 1 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born May 29, 1914, in Dixon, Ill., to the late Arthur John and Mabel Becker LeVan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert P. Griffin Sr., on Jan. 25, 1993; and a sister, Hazel Agnes Hermes.
Surviving are a son, Robert P. Griffin Jr. and wife Libby of Clemmons; two daughters, Penelope Hege and husband Keith of Mocksville and Susanne Lewis of Medinah Ill.; four brothers, LeRoy LeVan and wife Doris, Edwin LeVan and wife Olivette, Kenneth LeVan and wife Joyce and Gordon LeVan and wife Kathleen; seven grandchildren, Donald, Holly, Eugene, Jimmy, Wendy, Robert III and Matthew; and eight great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Christopher, Amy, Serenity, Katie, Scotty, Shelby, and Tyler.
A memorial service was held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Lane Sapp officiating.

Debra K. Mulkey
Debra K Mulkey, 41, of Lewisville, formerly of Davy, W.Va., died October 2. She had formerly worked as a nurse at Meadowbrook Manor in Clemmons.
Surviving are her husband, Ned Mulkey; four children, Brandon “Bucky”, Jeff, Brianne and Keri; two grandsons, Tyler and Ian Shumate; her mother, Ella Blevins; two sisters, Johnnie Green and Crystal Hornbuckle, both of West Virginia; a brother, Eric Monk of West Virginia; and many other family and friends.
A memorial service was held at Memorial Funeral Chapel.

David Aaron Hall
David Aaron Hall, 86, of Clemmons died October 1 at his home.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete at press time.

Denise Joy Roop
Denise Joy Roop, 32, of Walkertown, died suddenly September 20. She was born September 1, 1970, in Henry County, Va., to Paul Reeves Roop and Joy Wright Roop. She was an active member of First Assembly of God in Winston-Salem and was employed by Wachovia Bank in the corporate communications office.
Surviving are her daughter, Whitney Paige Roop of the home; her parents, of Martinsville, Va.; a sister, Cyndi Massengill and husband Craig of Lewisville; a brother, Paul R. Roop Jr. of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at First Assembly of God with Rev Chris Daniel and Rev. Jacky B. Ritter Sr. officiating. A graveside service was held at Roselawn Cemetery in Martinsville, Va.

Faye Houser Hutchinson
Faye Houser Hutchinson, formerly of Anson County, died September 30 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born April 20, 1913 in Cherryville (Gaston County) to John R. and Sarah K. Houser. She was a member of Hawley Memorial Presbyterian Church in Polkton. She was preceded in death by her husband, B.D. Hutchinson.
Surviving are her daughter, Edith H. Tyndall of Clemmons; her son, Benjamin T. Hutchinson and wife Linda of Covington, Ga.; four grandchildren, Karen B. Nash of Wingate, F. Arlen Burney Jr. of Kannapolis, Elizabeth H. Pinska of Concord and Vonda Jacobsma of Waxhaw; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Grace Porter of Cleveland, Tex.
A graveside service was held in Bennett Grove Cemetery in Polkton with Dr. William Hoyle officiating.

Ruby Evelyn Cantrell Miller
Ruby Evelyn Cantrell Miller, 70 ,of Raleigh died August 31 at Wake Medical Center. Born January 20, 1932 in Mount Pleasant, Tenn., she was the daughter of Preston Franklin Cantrell and Cymbeline Nicholson Cantrell. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Lawson and Harvey Cantrell, and her sisters, Lorene Howell, Gladys Aschbacher, Virgie Stephens, Vicki Howell and Kathy Love.
Surviving are her husband, Jack Daniel Miller of Raleigh; a son, John Miller of Raleigh; two daughters, Anne Paxton of Clemmons and Laura Laraia of Raleigh; four grandchildren, Ian Paxton, Kelly Harden, Amanda Laraia and Brittany Laraia; and two brothers, Preston Cantrell of Nashville, Tenn., and Sherman Cantrell of Birmingham, Ala.
Funeral services were held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Millbrook Road, Raleigh. A graveside service was held at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem.

Ralph Helfrich
Ralph Helfrich, 80, of Clemmons died December 1 at his home. He was born August 20, 1922 in New York City to Joseph and Pauline Helfrich. He was a resident of Franklin Square, N.Y. until moving to Clemmons 11 years ago. He was a veteran of World War II and retired from the Federal Reserve Bank as chief of bankers acceptances after 41 years of service.
Surviving are his wife, Charlotte; two children, Joseph Helfrich of Pelham, N,Y. and Arlene Helfrich Waughtel of Mill Valley, Va.; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Krauss Funeral Home in Franklin Square and Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons.

Charles E. Neyle
Charles E. Neyle, 78, of Lewisville died December 2 after an extended illness. He was born in Charleston, S.C. and had spent most of his life in the Winston-Salem area. He was a veteran of World War II. His last employment was at the Grocery Barn in Clemmons. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Bowles.
Surviving are a sister, Elizabeth Neyle of Charleston; a stepdaughter, Rosarhea Karpinnen of Lewisville; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at Memorial Funeral Chapel.

Clarence C. Anthony Jr.
Clarence C. Anthony Jr., 73, of Winston-Salem died December 4 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born November 12, 1929 in Forsyth County to the late Clarence C. and Mary Anthony Sr. He was a retired employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. He was a lifelong and faithful member of Center Grove AME Zion Church in Tobaccoville, where he served as Leader of Leaders and a member of the Trustee, Stewards and Usher Board. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah A. Anthony-Dugan.
Surviving are his wife, Dora B. Anthony; three sons, Kerry R. Anthony and wife Doretha of Clemmons, Clarence C. Anthony III of Rural Hall and Steven B. Anthony and wife Rita of East Bend; a daughter, Margaret Hickman and husband Billy Ray of Winston-Salem; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Debnam and husband William and Juanita Tatum and husband Eugene, all of Pfafftown, and Drucilla Pittman and husband Milton of Greensboro; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and relatives. His devoted friend, Robert “Buddy” Phillips, and the Old Timers Baseball League held a special place in his heart.
Funeral services were held at Center Grove AME Zion Church with Rev. George Erwin officiating.

Francis Joseph Thomas Boesel
Francie Joseph Thomas Boesel, 64, formerly of Winston-Salem, died December 3 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born December 25, 1937 in Queens, N.Y. to Frank Joseph and Mary B. Boesel. He was retired from BellSouth with more than 30 years of service and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and C.W.A.
Surviving are his wife, Lorraine T. Boesel of the home; three daughters, Arlene B. Cash of Clemmons, Beth Ann B. Wolff of Bethania and Erika B. West of Lewisville; three sons, Thomas J. Boesel of Hampton, Va., Theodore P. Boesel Of Hope Mills and Patrick J. Boesel of Lexington; seven grandchildren; and three sisters, Joan Pestche, Marilyn Staab and Dorothy Hyte.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Chaplain Randy Hillman officiating, and burial followed at Parklawn Memorial Gardens.

Barbara Ann Loftin Hubbard
Barbara Ann Loftin Hubbard, 63, of Clemmons died December 1 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born July 26, 1939 in Mecklenberg County to Yates Thurston Loftin and Lottie Mae Blackmon Loftin. She was a homemaker and member of Good Hope United Methodist Church.
Suriving are her husband, Donald G. Hubbard of the home; three daughters, Melissa Wilkes and husband Kent, Brenna McCrary and husband Mike and Michelle Dunning and husband Eddie, all of Lexington; her parents of Mounty Holly; six grandchildren, Jeremiah and Krista Wilkes, Joshua and Hanna McCrary, and Jacob and Taylor Dunning, all of Lexington; and a brother, Gary Loftin of Lexington.
Funeral services were held at Good Hope United Methodist Church with Rev. Arthur Holland officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery.

Floria Hutchins Beauchamp
Floria Hutchins Beauchamp, 91, formerly of Clemmons, died Dcember 4 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born September 1, 1911 in Yadkin County to the late Barney and Margaret Hutchins. Prior to spending the last two years at Clemmons Village Assisted Living, she was a homemaker. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed a lifetime of gardening along with spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by sisters Dolly Hutchins and Etta Ellis; brothers Gurney, Wesley, Bob and Allen Hutchins; and sons William Ray Beauchamp Jr. and Jack Hutchins.
Surviving are her husband of 72 years, William Ray Beauchamp Sr.; daughter Bessie Mae Shelton; brother Weldon Hutchins; a very special daughter-in-law, JoAnn Beauchamp; four grandchildren; one step-grandchild; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Vogler & Sons Funeral Home in Clemmons with Rev. David Benton officiating, and burial followed at Westlawn Gardens of Memory.

Edith Phillips Satterfield
Edith Phillips Satterfield, 75, of Winston-Salem died December 2 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born December 14, 1926 in Burlington to Violet and Charles Phillips. She was married to George C. Satterfield in 1948. She was of the Methodist faith and was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, gardening and caring for her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband.
Surviving are three daughters, Karen Bostic and husband Robbie “Bob” of Clemmons, Georgia “GV” Shimkus and husband Jim of Palm Bay, Fla. and Billie Satterfield of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren, Lindsay and Matthew “Matt” Bostic; a brother, Billie Phelps and wife Jackie of Chesapeake, Va.; three nieces, Teresa, Channing and Tamsey; and many devoted friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, and burial followed at Alamance Memorial Park in Burlington.

Joseph Hawes
Joseph "Uncle Joe" Hawes, 85, of Clemmons died December 3 from complications due to cancer.
A memorial service was held at Memorial Funeral Chapel.

Blanch Smith Rippy
Blanch Smith Rippy, 92, died December 6 at Meadowbrook Manor of Clemmons. She was born August 20, 1910, in Stokes County to Y. Stephen and Martha Chapman Smith. She was a member of Burkhead United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth L. Rippy and wife Betty of Winston-Salem; and a grandson, Jonathan Rippy of Morrisville.
A graveside service was held at Woodland Cemetery with Rev. Kathy Sherrill officiating.

Addie Mae Myers Meacham
Addie Mae Myers Meacham, 91, of Salemtowne Retirement Community and formerly of Lexington, died December 3 at Salemtowne Health Center. She was born April 25, 1911 in Rowan County to Jessie Lee and Carrie Belle Massey Myers. She worked many years as a doctor’s assistant to Dr. H.T. Myers. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Lexington, where she was a member of the Senior Adult Choir, the Fidelis Sunday-school class and the Leonard Gallimore and Conrad-Swain Groups of the church. She was also a member of Circle No. 1 at Salemtowne. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard M. Meacham, who died in 1981.
Surviving are two daughters, Ann M. Bishop and husband Don of Lexington and Jeannine M. Smith and husband Dee of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Dee Ann Smith and husband Mark of Clemmons, Donna B. Sink of Lexington and Debbie B. Sammons and husband Tommy of Taylor, S.C.; five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Rachel Smith, Ben Bishop and Rebekah and William Sammons; and nephews Lester Hill Jr. of Greensboro and Ken N. Hill of High Point.
Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church in Lexington with Rev. Tommy Wilson officiating, and burial followed at Forest Hill Memorial Park.

John Edward Gardner
John Edward Gardner, 75, of Winston-Salem died December 6 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born March 23, 1927, in Bedford, Pa., to George Vincent and Elva Leach Gardner. He was a World War II Army Air Force veteran and member of the 1386th Air Transport Command, serving in Iceland and France. He was also a member of the VFW District 11 Memorial Honor Guard-Arcadia Post and a past commander. He was an instructor at Forsyth Technical Community College. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Bedford, and attended Our Lady of Mercy in Winston-Salem.
Surviving are his wife, Marguerite Davis Gardner of the residence; three daughters, Janet Gardner Portis and husband Tim of Clemmons, Julie Gardner Rice and husband Jeff of Pfafftown, and Cynthia Gardner Bergen and husband Bill of Downingtown, Pa.; two sons, John Walter Gardner and wife Donna of Clemmons and Larry Vincent Gardner of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, Sarai, Meredith and Emily Bergen, Zachary Gardner and Kyle and Kameron Rice; and a sister, Charlotte Lowery of Ocean View, Del.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Father Conall McHugh and Chaplain A.G. Parker officiating. Burial followed in Parklawn Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites by District 11 VFW Memorial Honor Guard.

Kenneth Wade Long Sr.
Kenneth Wade Long Sr., 70, of Pfafftown died December 7 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born January 9, 1932, in Forsyth County to Dallas and Helen Hutchins Long. He was a member of Community United Church of Christ and had retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 27 years of service. He was an avid musician, playing many instruments and many styles of music.
Surviving are his wife, Daisy Jones Long, of the home; a son, Kenneth Wade Long Jr. and wife Cathy of Walnut Cove; and his mother-in-law, Mamie Jones of Lewisville.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Steve Monroe officiating, and burial followed in the Pfafftown Christian Church Cemetery.
