CORA EASTER BAILEY MALONE
APRIL 21, 1920-APRIL 13, 1999
RALEIGH - Cora Easter Bailey Malone of 2809 Bromley St. was born in Wake Forest, NC and graduated from DuBois High School. She was employed for 23 years at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, NC and served for fifty years as a faithful member of Martin Street Baptist Church in Raleigh. Cora was a mother, sister, aunt and friend to many in the Wake County area who affectionately knew her as "Ma Ma".
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Wallace Malone; her son, William Wallace Malone, Jr.; her sister, Beulah Raeford; and brothers, Allen Bailey and William Bailey.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Mann and Patricia Johnson (John R. Johnson); two grandsons, Travis E. Mitchell (Angela Mitchell), Brian Malone. Special daughters and sons include, Herman Dailey, Anita Christopher (and family), Mae Watson (and family), Carol Gartrell (and family), Deborah Dixon, and Paul Dunn. Her surviving in-laws are James E. and Margaret Malone, Metterine and Theodore Harris, John and Pauline Malone, Bessie Burrell, Vernon and Susan Malone Ernest and Bessie Raeford, all of Raleigh and Irene Bailey of Richmond, VA and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service to be held at 12 noon, Saturday, Martin St. Baptist Church. Interment takes place at Carolina Biblical Gardens. Visitation will be from 11:30 to 12 noon at the Church.

DORIS R. MOSER
RALEIGH - Doris Rollins Moser, 66, of 4913 Vallery Place, died Thursday, April 15, 1999 at Rex Hospital. Mrs. Moser worked for 33 years as Distribution Manager for the American Cancer Society.
Funeral Service, 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 17, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel. Burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Surviving: husband, Paul Beckham Moser; son, Dr. Paul Wayne Moser and his wife Jane Moser of Raleigh; grandchildren, Katherine Anne Moser, Susan Rollins Moser; brother, Bruce Rollins of Mocksville; sisters, Vena Medlin of Kenly, Annie Mae Batten of Selma, Dorothy Jean Moore of Asheboro, Carol Atkins of Durham.
Family will receive relatives and friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, April 16, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545 and other times at the home.
Flowers are accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Wake County Unit, 620 West Morgan Street, Raleigh, NC 27603.

ADA D. MURRAY
ZEBULON - Ada Denton Murray, 78, of 303 W. Horton St., Zebulon, N.C. died Wednesday, April 14, 1999. Funeral 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 17, 1999 at The Norman Screws Chapel of Family Funeral Care. Burial will follow in the Beulah Christian Baptist Church Cemetery, off Mitchell Mill Road, Zebulon, N.C.
Surviving: son, Richard H. Murray of Durham; daughters, Joyce A. Murray and Myrtle M. Satterwhite both of Franklinton, Bonnie M. Perry of Zebulon; sister, Ida "Thig" Perry of Zebulon. Special friend, Henry Tant, Jr. of the home.
Visitation 7-9 p.m. Friday at Family Funeral Care, 1201 North Arendell Ave., Zebulon, N.C. 269-9377.

MILDRED L. READE
APEX - Mildred Louise Reade, 82, of 1301 Pendula Path, Dogwood Ridge, Apex, NC died early April 14, 1999 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC.
She was a native of Los Angeles, Calif., and a former resident of Harrisburg, NC and Boulder, Colorado, a retired school teacher and a member of The Apex United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 17, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. in the Apex United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Henry Lovelace. Burial will follow at a later date in Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Wolf Reade in 1979.
Survivors are: a son, Jon Alex Reade and wife, Sue of Apex; a daughter, Louise Burton and husband, Stephen of Alexandria, VA; 2 grandchildren, John and Peter Burton.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, 620 W. Morgan St., Raleigh, NC 27603.
The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the home, 1301 Pendula Path, Dogwood Ridge, Apex.
Services are entrusted with Apex Funeral Home, 511 W. Williams St., (Hwy. 55) Apex, NC.

MARY ALEASE ROGERS
RALEIGH - Mary Alease Rogers of 118 Bart Street, died Monday. Funeral 12-noon Saturday, Lea Funeral Home chapel. Burial, Malaby's Cross Road Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include: Linda Hackney, Pamela Rogers, Teresa Rogers, and Joann Rogers, all of Raleigh; sons, William Rogers of Raleigh; sister, Margaret T. Ford of New Jersey; brothers, Raymond Williams and William Williams, both of Raleigh; grandchildren, Alfreda Hicks and her husband, Tony, William Rogers, Joyce Rogers, Tasha Rogers, Jonathan Rogers, Teresa Rogers, Alex Rogers, Michelle Rogers, Justice Rogers, Antonio Rogers, and Shante' Rogers; great-grandchildren, Charles McDonald-Hicks, Ciara Rogers-Hicks, Maqui Rogers, Jalen Hicks and Steven Jones.
Visitation 7-8 p.m. Friday, Lea Funeral Home chapel. All other times at the home.

KATE FENNER URQUHART
LEWISTON-WOODVILLE - Kate Fenner Urquhart, beloved wife of Irving Herschbein, died April 14, 1999 in New York City. Born in Woodville, NC, June 23, 1916, Kate graduated Phi Beta Kappa University of North Carolina-Greensboro in 1937. After working for the Winston-Salem Journal-Sentinel newspaper and next as manager of the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce, she moved to New York City. There she began a distinguished career in public relations with Cunningham and Walsh, Allied Chemical, Inmont and BASF. She retired in 1992 to devote more time to her home and her antiques business in Ridgefield, Connecticut, and to her friends, family, and many interests.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her loving brother, Richard A. Urquhart, Jr. of Raleigh, North Carolina, five nieces, six nephews, nine great-nieces, and two great-nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Richard A. Urquhart and Kate Nelson Fenner Urquhart, and her brother, William Eaton Urquhart.
Burial will be at Grace Episcopal Church, Lewiston-Woodville, NC on Saturday at 3 p.m.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to either of Kate's favorite charities: Historic Woodville, 2312 Van Dyke Avenue, Raleigh, North Carolina 27607, or Historic Hope, 132 Hope House Road, Windsor, North Carolina 27983.

THOMAS G. WHITLEY
SELMA - Thomas Glenn Whitley, 74, of Jordan Narron Road, died early Thursday morning at Wilson Memorial Hospital. Born in Johnston County on March 14, 1925, he was the son of the late Thomas Glenn and Lucy Horne Whitley. He was a retiree of Ford Motor Company in Norfolk, VA.
Mr. Whitley is survived by two nieces, Hilda Renfrow Starling and Betty Renfrow Strickland, both of Selma; four nephews, Ray Renfrow of Annandale, VA, Harold Renfrow of Knightdale, Rev. Charles L. Renfrow of Kenly, and Dennis Whitley of Chesapeake, VA; a special friend, Linda Horne Rogers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Whitley; a sister, Sally Renfrow Whitley; and a brother, Carroll Whitley.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with Rev. Charles L. Renfrow officiating. Burial will follow in Selma Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday night from 7-9 p.m.

STEVEN JOSEPH CHIASSON
RALEIGH - Steve Chiasson died suddenly Monday May 3, 1999. He was born in Canada on April 14, 1967.
Steve and his family enjoyed their summers in Peterborough, Ontario with family and friends.
Steve will be greatly missed by his wife, Susan; sons, Michael and Ryan; and daughter, Stephanie. He is also survived by his parents, Betty and Joe Chiasson, and siblings Janet, Lorri, Dan, Susan, Brenda and families. He will also be sadly missed by Sidney and Gerald Turner and family.
Steve will be remembered as an amazing father, husband, friend, teammate and an all around great guy. He touched many lives in his brief journey and was an inspiration to all who knew him. He enjoyed 13 seasons in the National Hockey League and was a current member of the Carolina Hurricanes. Steve played his minor hockey in Peterborough before graduating to the Ontario Hockey League. He led Guelph to the 1986 Memorial Cup Championship, capturing the tournament MVP award. He also represented Canada at the 1987 World Junior Championships. Steve was an NHL All-Star in 1994-1995 with the Detroit Red Wings. He also captured a gold medal for Canada at the World Hockey Championships in 1997.
Steve's passion for hockey was superseded only by his love of family and those close to him.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 8, 1999, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Peters Cathedral, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

ALICE JOHNSON LA ROQUE STOTT
RALEIGH - Alice Johnson LaRoque Stott, 80, died Monday, May 3, 1999, at Rex Hospital after a brief illness. A Memorial Service will be held at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Friday, May 7, 1999. The family will receive friends after the service in the church parlor.
Alice, the wife of 57 years of Charles C. Stott of Raleigh, N.C., was born August 2, 1918, in Aynor, S.C. She was the daughter of Alice Johnson LaRoque and J. Frank LaRoque of Kinston, N.C. She grew up in Kinston and, during childhood, summered in Galivant's Ferry, S.C. and Marion, S.C. with her beloved "South Carolina Cousins."
She attended Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C., and graduated from the National School of Fine & Applied Art in Washington, D.C. She was presented at the 1937 North Carolina Terpsichorean Ball. Alice worked in Raleigh as a commercial artist prior to her marriage, December 19, 1942, to Charles C. Stott.
After World War II, Charlie and Alice settled in Raleigh, N.C., where they remained until after Charlie's retirement from N.C. State University. While living and raising their family in Raleigh, Alice enjoyed working with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, P.T.A. and supporting her husband and children in all of their activities.
She was an active member of Hayes Barton United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Altar Guild, United Methodist Women, and the Trinity Sunday School Class for 53 years.
She also cherished her memberships in Chapter I of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and the Arts and Travel Book Club of which she was a member for more than 50 years.
Alice was a most gifted artist, and after her children were grown, she renewed her artistic endeavors and graced us with the beauty of her gift. During the twelve years she and Charlie lived at Emerald Isle, she painted prolifically, and her watercolors were featured in one artist shows at the Newport Library, Newport, N.C., and the Beaufort Library in Beaufort, N.C. She was an active member of the N.C. Watercolor Society.
While at Emerald Isle, Alice was also a very active member of the Chapel By the Sea and enjoyed much fellowship in her Bible Study and Prayer Group there.
On returning to Springmoor Retirement Village in Raleigh, Alice resumed her church associations and continued to enjoy her family and many friends.
In addition to her husband, Charlie, she is survived by a son, Charles C. Stott Jr., and his wife, Mary Louise Stott; a daughter, Jeanne Stott Jolly and her husband, Frank M. Jolly III; a daughter, Susan Stott Miller and her husband Matthew F. Miller; Alice's grandchildren include Ashly L. Stott, Eleise B. Theuer, Mary Louise Bahnson, Jeanne LaRoque Jolly, Frank M. Jolly IV, Sarah Alice Miller, and Brandon Ford Miller. She has four great-grandchildren, Maximilian O. Levine, James and Thomas Theuer, and Rayna Armitage. Alice took great pride in all of her family and instilled some of her beauty and art in each of them.

GRACE CROUCH ADAMS
ATHENS, GA - Grace Crouch Adams, formerly of Raleigh, died Sunday, May 2, 1999.
Graveside service 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, 1999, in Athens, GA.
Survivors include two sons, William E. Jr. of Athens, GA, Thomas of Charleston, SC; a brother, Fred Crouch Jr. of Raleigh.

CHARLES COUNCIL CLARK SR.
PITTSBORO - Charles Coucil Clark Sr., 75, of 195 Pine Street, Moncure, died Monday in the VA Hospital in Durham. He was a native of Chatham County and was employed in product distribution with tools. He was a veteran of the US Army in World War II.
A Memorial service will held 2 p.m. Thursday in Griffin Funeral Service chapel conducted by Rev. Matt Garrett.
Surviving are two daughters, Donna Faye Cassil of Elkin and Joyce Geraldine Hull of Durham; two sisters, Isabell C. Eubanks and Jennie Hackney both of Pittsboro; two brothers, Robert Lee Clark of New Bern and Marcus Ross Clark of Apex; and eight grandchildren.
Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Griffin Funeral Service.
Memorials may be made to the Chatham County on Aging, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

DAVID H. CYRUS JR.
YOUNGSVILLE - David Hatch Cyrus, Jr., 63 of 322 N. Nassau Street, died Tuesday, May 4, 1999 at his home. He was born in Franklin County and was the son of the late Louise Nelms Cyrus and David H. Cyrus, Sr. and was a building contractor.
Mr. Cyrus is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Ellington Cyrus; children, David Dennis Cyrus, Deborah Cyrus Hill, Raymond Darrell Cyrus and Mary Dawn Cyrus; four grandchildren, Chris, Matthew, Danielle, Cable; sister, Carolyn Bush; brother, John Russell Cyrus, Gerald Lynn Cyrus.
The family will receive friends at the home from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 1999.

KNIGHTDALE - Mildred Woodard Ferrell, 88, of 24 Park Avenue, died Tuesday, May 4, 1999 at Rex Hospital.
Funeral service 3 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 1999 at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Burial, Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving: son, Gerald Winfred Ferrell of the home; daughter, Peggy Ferrell Grady of Garner; granddaughter, Linda Stevens and husband Jack May of Garner; great-grandson, Kelvin Lee Cash of Raleigh; Very Special Brother-In-Law and Sister-In-Law, Harold Ray Ferrell and Edna Ferrell of Fayetteville; Very Special Thanks to Oliver and Ann Parrish of Knightdale.
Mrs. Ferrell was preceded in death by her husband, David Ferrell in 1986; brothers, Chesley Woodard, Waveley Woodard, Glenn Woodard, Ronald Woodard and Leamon Woodard; sister, Rosa W. Britt.
