CLAYTON - Annie Mae Johnson Allen, 72, died Thursday. Funeral 2 p.m. Saturday, McLaurin Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Jim Bogle officiating. Burial, Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.
Surviving: daughters, Phyllis Fergerson and Lisa Ross, both of Clayton; sons, James D. Allen of Clayton, Ronnie G. Allen of Rougemont; brother, Jesse Johnson of Wilsons Mill; sisters, Joyce Edwards of Princeton, Patricia Byrd of Selma, Lillie Woodard of Burlington; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday, McLaurin Funeral Home.
SOPHIA LEE AYCOCK
SMITHFIELD - Sophia Lee Aycock, 83, a resident of Christian Care Nursing Home and formerly a resident of Micro, died on Thursday.
She was born in Johnston County on May 24, 1915 to the late Preston and Flossie Barbour Lee. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Micro.
Mrs. Aycock was preceded in death by her son, Jesse B. Aycock of Raleigh; a grandson, Paul Taylor of Selma, and a granddaughter, Diana Aycock of Smithfield.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma, with Rev. Kris Robert Meyer officiating.
Surviving are four sons, Preston G. Aycock of Grifton, Alfred Aycock of Clayton, Rayford O. Aycock of Smithfield, Roy H. Aycock of Godwin; six daughters, Myrtle Ballard of Selma, Audrey Taylor of Selma, Nancy A. Oakley of Farmville, Flossie A. Evans of Willow Springs, Ethel A. Grady of Wake Forest, Edith A. Abbott of Clayton; one sister, Josephine Reeder of Four Oaks; 27 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday night from 7-9.
Flowers are acceptable or donations may be made to the Free Will Baptist Children's Home at P.O. Box 249, Middlesex, N.C. 27557.
EFFIE BRENDLE BAIRD
NOV. 30, 1913-APRIL 15, 1999
RALEIGH - Mary Effie Brendle Baird, went to be with the Lord on Thursday. She was the wife of the late Robert Lee Baird and lived in Valdese, NC for 47 years before moving to Raleigh.
She is survived by four sons and two daughters and their spouses: Herbert Wallace Baird and wife Frances of Walkertown, NC, Alba Anderson and husband Melvin of Lynchburg, VA, Bennett Ray Baird and wife Janie of Unionville, PA, Kenneth Lee Baird and wife Dottie of Raleigh, Wanda Rackley and husband Jack of Indian Trail, NC and Michael Wayne Baird and wife Linda of Durham, NC; 17 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren: one brother, Leonard Garnie Brendel of Drexel, NC; two sisters, Julia Ann Brendle Reece of Drexel, NC and Cuvie Katherine Brendle Kidd of Chesapeake, VA; one step-brother, Robert Brown of Drexel, NC.
She was preceded in death by one brother, David Winfred Brendle and one sister, Maggie Daris Brendle Burns.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner on Saturday, April 17th at 11 a.m. The Reverend Randy Bishop of Hamlet, NC will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Inwood Baptist Church Cemetery in Raleigh.
The family will receive friends at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner, NC on Friday, April 16th, between 7-9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice to Wake Co., 1300 St. Mary's St., Raleigh, NC 27605, or the organization of your choice.
WILLIE LEWIS BAKER
RICH SQUARE - Mr. Willie Lewis Baker, 90, of Rich Square, died April 15, 1999 at Nash General Hospital.
Mr. Baker was a retired cabinet maker and the husband of the late Izetta Jones Baker.
Survivors include his daughters, Virginia B. Parker of Rocky Mount and Yvonne B. Cooper of Hillsborough; four grandchildren, Karen P. Coates, David A. Parker, Lindsay B. Cooper and J.P. Cooper; five great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held Saturday, April 17, at 3 p.m. at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Rich Square, by Rev. Nathaniel Austin.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson Friday from 7-9 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of ones choice.
TERRY L. BARHAM
HARRISBURG, Pa. - Terry L. Barham, 42, of 6120 Ironwood Drive, formerly of Raleigh, N.C., died Wednesday.
Funeral 11 a.m. Saturday, Rex Funeral Home, 308 Market St. Port Royal, Pa., with Rev. Thomas A. Maurer. Interment, Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Academia, Pa.
Surviving: father, Preston H. Barham of Wilmington, E. Irene (Moore) Barham of Wilmington, wife, Lisa K. (Robinson) Barham of 6120 Ironwood Drive; one son, Zachary M. Barham.
He was an insurance claims administrator and the owner and operator of Claim Control Services, Harrisburg, Pa. He was a 1975 graduate of Millbrook High School, Raleigh, N.C., and a 1979 graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, N.C. He attended the Linglestown United Methodist Church, Linglestown, Pa. He was a member of CPCU Society for underwriters and the PIAA-PA Interscholastic Athletic Assn. He was an umpire for Little League baseball and football.

SALLIE BECKNELL
RALEIGH - Sallie Becknell of 2209 Rock Quarry Rd., daughter of the late Julia Jones Miales and Marion Jones, born December 25, 1928, in Clayton, NC died on Monday, April 12, 1999, at the Sunrise Nursing Home in Mt. Olive, NC.
Funeral service to be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at Maple Temple Church. The family will receive friends one half hour prior to the service. Interment takes place at Oakwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Becknell graduated from N. B. Broughton High School and Civella Beauty College of Raleigh, NC. She joined Maple Temple United Church of Christ where she was a member of the usher board.
She leaves to cherish her memories: one son, William McDonald (Doris) of Goldsboro; a brother, Landon Miales (Carolyn); three sisters, Savannah Hardnick, Ethel Wright and Edna Golson of Raleigh; a host of loving and supporting nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

TERESA BRYANT
RALEIGH - Teresa Bryant, 38, of 3000-106 Sunnybrook Drive died on Tuesday, April 13, 1999. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Haywood Funeral Home Chapel.
Ms. Bryant, born in Kinston, NC, was a member of The Banks Chapel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Bryant.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her mother Eugenia Bryant; brother, Danny Bryant; a niece Ashley Bryant and a host of other relatives and friends.
HELEN GOODWIN CHERRY
CLARKSVILLE, Va. - Helen Goodwin Cherry, 78, of Valley St., Clarksville, Va., died April 14, 1999 in the Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston, Va.
She was a native of Chatham Co., and was a retired secretary and bookkeeper. She was an avid bridge player.
Funeral service will be held Friday, April 16, 1999 at 2 p.m. in the Olive Chapel Baptist Church in Apex, N.C., officiating will be Dr. Mark Crumpler. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors are: her husband, Hugh P. Cherry of the home; three daughters, Jo Cherry Brooks and husband, Robert of Raleigh, Betsy Cherry Mohr and husband, Frederick of Raleigh, June Cherry of Cary; brother, Earl G. Goodwin and wife, Karen of Apex; a sister, Doris G. Overman of Apex; her stepmother, Veanna P. Goodwin of Apex; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 1999 at Apex Funeral Home, 511 West Williams St. (Hwy 55), Apex, N.C. and other times at the home of Robert and Jo Cherry Brooks, 3608 Dade St., Raleigh, N.C.

ALICE MEDLIN FARMER
ZEBULON - Alice Medlin Farmer, 80, formerly of Zebulon died Thursday. Mrs. Farmer was preceded in death by her husband Patrick O. Farmer, former mayor of Zebulon. Together, Mr. and Mrs. Farmer owned and operated Farmer's Department Store in Zebulon. Graveside funeral service 2 p.m. Saturday, Maplewood Cemetery in Mt. Olive.
Surviving: sisters, Shelly Medlin Hudson of Greenville, Maxine Medlin Smith of Wilson; brother, Wesley W. Medlin of Popano Beach, FL.
The family will receive friends 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday at Massey Funeral Home, Zebulon.

J. C. GOURLEY
FRANKLINTON - J. C. Gourley, 72, of 2142 Pocomoke Road died Wednesday night at his residence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Hall Gourley.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Watkins Cemetery in Bryson City, NC.
Surviving are his daughters, Ruth Daughtry of Lasker, NC; Debbie Roberts of Franklinton and Sandra Minor of Youngsville; sons, Doug Gourley of Franklinton, Paul Gourley, Martin Gourley, Michael Gourley, all of Youngsville, Chris Gourley of Raleigh, and Gary Gourley of North Wilkesboro; half sister, Mellie Lane of Stovall; brothers, Harrison Gourley of Stem and Carl Gourley of North Wilkesboro; half brother, Junior Lane; 24 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Staff Builders Home Health and Hospice Care, 1937 NC Hwy 39 N, Lewisburg, NC 27549.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Bright Funeral Home in Wake Forest.
RUBY JOY HOWELL
ROSEBORO - Mrs. Ruby Joy Stallings Howell, 82, of 105 Wrench Street, Roseboro, died Wednesday at the Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Roseboro First Baptist Church, with Rev. Greg Templin officiating. Burial will follow in the Roseboro Cemetery.
She was a native of Wake County, the daughter of the late Bryant Shelton and Sarah Gay Stallings.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Noah H. Howell. She studied nursing at Dorothea Dix Hospital and graduated as an R.N. She joined the Red Cross Reserves in 1939 and in February, 1941 was called from the reserves into active duty as a second lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps. She left the Army in November, 1945 as a first lieutenant. She continued her nursing career at Brewer and Starling Clinic in Roseboro and retired from Sampson Regional Medical Center in 1979. She was an active member of Roseboro First Baptist Church.
She is survived by three sons, David M. Howell and Donald H. Howell, both of Raleigh, Charles W. Howell of Garland; five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 Friday evening at Butler Funeral Home.
Memorial may be made to the Roseboro First Baptist Church.
KATHARINE B. LEWIS
SOUTH HILL, VA - Katharine B. Lewis of South Hill, VA died April 14, 1999. Daughter of the late Alex and Della Baxter and predeceased by a brother William A. Baxter.
Survived by several cousins including Margaret Wilson of Wake Forest, NC, Margaret Moore of Spartanburg, SC and Carolyn Guglielmo of Bridgewater, NJ.
Service 11 a.m. Saturday at South Hill United Methodist Church. Interment, Fairview Cemetery, Warrenton, NC.
Visitation, 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home, South Hill.

RALEIGH - Danelle D. Lundy, 25, of 49 Coolridge Court, died April 13, 1999.
